A slam of a door stole my attention, followed by another. Rosalie was never particularly friendly and of course Emmett left to comfort her. Their steps came to a halt and I assumed them to be lying down but instantly blocked whatever else was happening next.
"Soooo Bella! Want to take a tour and talk? I feel like I know you but I know nothing! We must catch up; after all we have all night." Alice noted as she stood rocking back and forth with anticipation.
My head was in a million places at once. Forks, the Volturi, these strange messages, high school and the Cullens. Exactly what am I supposed to do? I'm not allowed to leave Forks but that doesn't mean I have to stay here right? I began to panic and panic turned to anger. How could I be so shaken? After all this time, I was just as weak as I was when I was human. Useless. I felt useless, am I useless?
Slap.
I grabbed my cheek, disorientated by what had just happened… What did happen? I looked up to see Alice staring right at me, her hand sticking out from the slap. I looked desperately for explanation but could only see a look of shock in her eyes. Instantly she leapt at me and wrapped her arms around me.
"Bella… I… I'm… I didn't mean to… you just looked so… angry. I wanted you to snap out of it and I just reacted."
I began to laugh, so much so that she stepped back, looking at me like I was crazy. I couldn't contain the overflowing emotions from today and this seemed to be the outlet. Alice visually calmed as her shoulders relaxed. My laughter died down and the awkward silence set in. And with all awkward moments I began to fiddle with the end of my shirt. I hesitantly glanced upward, only Alice was in the room looking at me. Jasper must have sprinted off to avoid all of… whatever this was.
She began to chuckle. All the tension died down as Alice couldn't contain her laughter, forcing me to smile. Her laugh was quite enchanting and I felt myself calm even the slightest.
"As much as I love grinning like idiots, want a tour?" She eventually responded.
"Definitely" I replied, not knowing what else to do.
I followed as Alice walked ahead, explaining the pieces of art collected throughout the decades. In front of the second floor stairs led to Rosalie and Emmett's room - which we quickly moved past. To the right of their room was Jasper's study, clean and conservative like himself. A stray cowboy hung on the wall, slightly tattered but must have meant something sincere due to the fair wear and tear it contained. He gave a wave as he approached stepped into view; I waved back not wanting to be impolite. I feel jasper and I have already had too many emotions felt today. We walked into Alice's room where everything felt in place, no clothes on the floor, no hair lingering astray, not even a fingerprint on the furniture. The house was immaculate, but it still felt a bit empty. It was like the heat was less than comfortable or a piece of furniture was out of place and making the house seem off.
As usual I got lost in thought and spun a full circle, where was Alice? I stood still, perhaps she'd notice if I stopped making any noise. She soon popped her head out from the double door near their entrance door and I followed suit. The room was definitely larger than her room and of course… It's her closet. Each wall shelved and full of immaculate in-style clothing. The shoes paired off to suit the clothes that hung above. I looked down to my worn converse; I am more than comfortable with these than heels. I let out a chuckle which was returned with a beaming smile and wink. The only other room on the second room was Carlisle's office with a specific section refurbished for Esme's use. Though not wanting to intrude, I just peeked in and carried on. The third floor was definitely a view, the forest hid the house but the view was nonetheless diverting. Majority of the top floor was a library of some-sort but used like a living room. Southward was his room. I didn't need Alice to point that out, I could simply feel Tanya's hate from down the hall.
Tanya caught my eye and was quick to glare. This is somewhat satisfying so let out a laugh and winked wildly at her. Unfortunately for me, it was Edward who caught this as he began to close the door. I gagged a tad to show my distaste but this turned to a cough as Alice peered at me suspiciously.
"Do you mind if I lie down for a bit? Tanya's lack of make-up seems to have given me a headache." I informed with a sarcastic smile. Knowing very well she wasn't wearing any. There was a bang from the shut door which added more satisfaction to my ego.
Alice didn't say anything she just rolled her eyes a bit but laughed as she led me to where I'd be "sleeping." Alice left me to recover and said to call out if I was interested in some 'girl time.'
In the end I decided to take a bath, not knowing what else to do and at least this would bypass some time. The water was lukewarm but just what I needed to down-wind. After a good hour of reading Withering Heights I decide to get out of the bath considering it was stone cold now.
I dried off and settled into some clothes that were laid out. Should have predicted that Alice would have pre prepared a change of clothing. The long-sleeved top was a dark blue that fit with my curves and was surprisingly comfortable. This matched nicely with the plain black skinny jeans and my converse shoes I previously wore. I looked at myself in the mirror. My hair was roughly dried and gave more volume than it usually does when it's straight. My face looked tired and this showed through my gold-trimmed eyes. A few days and I'll need to go feed. Perhaps it'll stop all these mood swings.
Outside was dark and night seems have come around fairly quickly. I lay on the bed contemplating what to do. Should I call Logan? That would pass some time. But I decided against it, not wanting anyone to overhear their conversation and pester me for information.
Opening the window, the night air felt very pleasant. Crisp on my skin but the smell of the forest helped relieve my tension that won't go away. So instead I jump out the window and wondered to the forest. I realise I am walking very fast but stop myself instantly. I had nowhere to be so might as well take my time. I made sure to walk the difficult way. Instead of using the flattened ground, I climbed the roots and jumped from boulder to boulder. Just walking aimlessly and getting lost in the detail of the forest floor.
Before I knew it I had reached a clearing. Letting out a sigh I looked upward, the sky was slightly clear. The moonlight trickled through showing the large area of a meadow in front of me. I heard a chuckle echo around and immediately tensed up. I let my eyes dart around but did not move. It gave me the vantage point of pinpointing everything that surrounded me. A few meters ahead the shadow stepped forward. I squinted until it approached enough to show who it was.
"Isabella." He whispered.
It was Edward.
