Hey there guys, my biggest apologies for the massively long delay. I've had tonnes of work to do and writers block basically hates me. Remember this one is going to update you on Liv's secret and Cragen's reaction to Rollins' latest antics. It's a lot longer than usual and I'll warn you there are a couple of upsetting scenes near the end. Anyway I hope you like the new update and be sure to leave a review.
Chapter 8: Consequences
"Sit down Rollins," Cragen said pointing to the seat while he observed Amanda's suddenly nervous demeanour.
"Sir if this is about me gettin' the evidence when it wasn't technically my job then…"
"No it wasn't technically your job at all Rollins; we shouldn't even be dealing with this case! And for you to go behind my back, against my orders it's just…it's just a good job you actually found something," the Captain turned on his heel and peered through the blinds onto the street below him. "Look Amanda I know you feel strongly for Liv…"
You have no idea. Amanda thought.
"…but so the do the rest of us. But do you see us running around the place? No, we work this how we always do. Professionally." Amanda laughed.
"Professionally? Well no offense Capt'n but that didn't seem to be getting us anywhere."
"Look Amanda," he replied as he turned to face her, "I think that you've been struggling, we can all see it and I want you to take the rest of today off. Maybe even tomorrow. When you try to focus on something other than your problem you seem to be a little over enthusiastic."
"Hold on a second! You think this is about my gamblin' don't you Capt'n? Oh my God! If you didn't jump to conclusions…you know what no. I am not explaining myself to someone who clearly don't know me." Rollins stood abruptly from her chair before walking to the office door, yanking it open and grabbing her keys from her desk. She snatched up some paperwork and stormed out of the precinct.
Rollins lead asleep on her bed, her breathing was steady as she nestled unconsciously into the pillows. A hand lent down and moved away a piece of hair that covered her delicate skin. The hand moved again, this time it stroked her cheek. The sudden contact jolted Amanda back awake only to find Liv sat on her bed.
"Liv," she said surprised, "How did you get in?"
Olivia smiled, "You didn't answer your calls so I got the landlord to open the door for me." Rollins lent over and checked the clock that balanced neatly on a stack of books on her bedside table. 11:42P.M
"Liv it's nearly twelve, how come you came round so late?"
"I need to tell you something Manda, something that's been, well, hidden from you. From everyone." Amanda sat upright as she heard the concern and anguish in Benson's tone. "Tyrese Alverez and one of the other men from that gang have been sending me letters, sending me things. They threatened me. Told me that if I didn't stop their friend getting sent down then they were gonna hurt the team.
"And now I have sent him down the threats are getting worse and I'm just so scared someone is gonna hurt me or the team, or you. I thought I could deal with it by myself but then they broke in and while you were at the precinct I got an envelope in the mail with photos of us."
"Liv why didn't you tell me? Our relationship is meant to be built upon trust not secrets and lies. I would have been there for you, I am here for you!" Amanda argued back. She moved the duvet covers aside and reached out for her lover. Liv lent forward and the two hugged briefly before Benson pulled back. She grabbed Amanda's hand and rubbed it gently with her forefinger.
"I got the letters and everything else tested Amanda, Tyrese Alvarez isn't the only perp, there was someone else helping him. Someone else in that gang that was threatening me and they found his fingerprints."
"So why didn't you get him, do something, tell me?" Amanda's emotions were going wild; they were a mixture of confusion and guilt for not realising sooner.
"Terrell Bryant. He's wanted for possession of illegal substances, rape in the first degree and murder. I couldn't take him on alone."
"Oh okay." Amanda finally managed to say after a short period of silence. "I've got the day off tomorrow Liv so I'll sort it out. I'm not having some stupid gang threaten our relationship."
"No Amanda I don't want you to. This is SVU it's not a place you can just investigate any crime you pick and choose. You need to protect the right people, that's our job." Benson began to urge.
"But you ARE the right person to protect. I couldn't think of anything else I'd rather do."
The detective looked up from her drink, she swirled the glass round as she listened to the rhythmic clink of the ice against the side of the glass. The door to the bar opened and she turned to see a Latino man make his way through the sea of people and out through another door by the bar. She hadn't noticed it before.
"Another?" A voice prompted from behind the bar. The blonde looked down at her glass which was now empty.
"No thanks," she declined, "But out of interest what's back there?" The woman asked, pointing to the back door the man had just gone through.
The bartender leant over the bar and whispered, "Between me and you let's just say there's high stakes."
The woman with the empty glass nodded. After putting down his cloth the bartender rubbed his hand on his trousers and extended it, "I'm Steve by the way."
The blonde shook his hand, "Amanda."
"So Amanda, you interested?" He asked pointing as another figure passed through the back door.
Munch looked at his watch, the trial had been going on for two hours now and it felt like at least two days. But deep down he didn't mind, all he cared about was being there for Olivia and that's the exact same thought that Amaro had had. Casey Novak was obviously Olivia's ADA and was very much as forceful with the suspect as she usually was.
"Fin look, all I need is you as back up. Let's just call it a favor." Amanda pleaded.
"A favor? A favor isn't usually so huge and dangerous. What's the guy like?" Fin asked as made himself some coffee and sat down on his couch.
"He's wanted for rape, drugs, murder to name a few and just think Fin, if you let me go there alone there's no knowing what he'll do to a lone woman!" Rollins added.
Fin looked up from his coffee, "Fine but I'm not shooting nobody."
RING RING everyone in court turned to stare at Munch who sat in his seat, phone in hand.
"Could you turn that off please Detective Munch!" The judge shouted.
"It's Sergeant Munch and I have to take this." Munch argued back before answering the phone call and stepping out of the court room. "Fin what is it? I'm in court with Olivia!"
"Sorry Munch but we got a situation." Fin answered sympathetically, knowing that Judge Cramer always hated interruptions in court.
"What do you mean a situation?"
"It's Rollins, she's going over to Terrell Bryant's house. She's gonna threaten him and I dunno how bad this is gonna get. Tell Novak to stop the case, adjourn, do something. I think we need to get Liv down here to stop Rollins going crazy on this guy." Fin begged Munch who finally agreed and put the phone down. Munch rolled his eyes as he thought about that morning when Olivia had told them all about Terrell Bryant being another one in this case. He stepped back into court, watching as the eyes followed him to the front of the room where he whispered in Casey's ear and sat back down.
"Your honor I'm calling to adjourn court until tomorrow, due to my client being too worn out by this ordeal and I think you'll agree it's been a long day." Casey asked the judge who reluctantly agreed.
Benson got up from her seat and rushed over to Munch, who explained that Rollins was going to threaten Bryant.
"You're joking?" Olivia's rhetorical question hung in the air a few seconds before she grabbed her coat and raced out of court.
"You're sure it's up here somewhere?" Fin questioned as he raced up the stairs gun in hand.
"Yeah I'm sure, they told me it was apartment 22A. Should be on the next floor." Amanda answered as she followed closely behind.
The two reached the top of the stairs and began making their way down the corridor. The walls were bare, the only color they could make out was the peeling brown wallpaper at the end of the hallway. A woman stood up ahead rooting around in her bag as if to find her keys. They continued looking at the numbers on the doors when they heard one of them open further down. A man with a small build, black hair and who wore a hideous shade of green sweats stepped out. He looked up only to see Rollins and Fin staring at him with their weapons in their hands. The man's eyes widened and he pulled a gun from under his shirt, pointed it at the women nearby and dragged her into his apartment.
The woman screamed as loudly as she could, it was enough to wake the dead as the door was slammed shut and a gun shot went off. Running down the corridor the two detectives banged on the door calling to the criminal.
"Terrell Bryant this is the police, open the door!" There came no reply but the woman's whimpering. Fin tried for the door handle but to no one's surprise it was locked.
"Amanda!" The blonde haired detective looked up. There was Liv running down the corridor, holding her gun. "I told you not to do this! I begged you not to do this!" Rollins saw the disappointment in Benson's eyes as she reached her. She had a sudden pang of guilt as she realized she had let her emotions overrule her. Fin continued calling to Bryant as the two female detectives talked quietly away from him.
"I'm sorry it's just I can't let someone like that," Amanda pointed to the door, "Destroy somethin' as great as this!" She said pointing to herself and to Olivia. "He threatened you Liv and I'm not gonna let someone do that to you. Ever!" Rollins walked back down the hallway to Fin, he didn't look up, he had no need. He hadn't heard their conversation and was more interested in capturing this criminal.
He looked at the other two then turned and kicked the entrance open, the heavy blow of his foot sent the door flying and Fin raced into the room. The man turned to face Fin and fired quickly at him before grabbing the woman's hair. Olivia's eyes widened as she saw Fin fall to the floor clutching his shoulder that was now dripping with blood. Benson rushed over to him and held her hand on his wound as Rollins ran in behind her.
"Police, stay where you are!" She screamed at Terrell who threw his hostage towards the detectives and raced for the other room and the window. Rollins sidestepped the hostage and ran after the perp, she hauled herself at him as he scrambled to open the window. He fell to the floor and turned around to face her. That's when she realized her gun had fallen two metres behind her. Terrell grabbed for his own and forcefully hit Amanda in the face with the back of his gun. She moved as his gun made contact with her bare skin and the awkward angle sent her soaring into the dressing table behind her. She hit the object with full force on her shoulder and she felt the bone dislocate slightly from its socket. Amanda screamed in pain while watching Bryant run up the fire escape and presumably onto the roof.
Pulling herself up, Rollins hobbled to the window and onto the fire escape. Running onto the roof she understood that she was to talk this man into coming down, her gun was in the apartment and her partners were attending to the wounded and frightened.
"I'm not going back there. I'm never going back to prison!" He screamed as he edged closer to the end of the building.
"Look Terrell there's much worse things in life than prison, think about your family…if you give us information on the rest of your gang maybe we can give you a deal. Maybe even less time, maybe no time." Rollins tried to reason with the man while clutching at her shoulder. Her eyes began to water as the pain grew.
"If I gave you any info then I'm as good as dead anyways!" He screamed back. This time the Latino man was in fact on the edge of the building, his body swayed as the wind caught his sweats. Amanda shifted closer. "No get away! All you cops ever do is ruin my life! It was a matter of time before I did this!"
"Look Terrell don't do this, there's things in life you need to live for!" Rollins shouted over to him.
"Like what? All I can look forward to is being kept in a small cell for the rest of my life." He cried, as he pulled his gun up and shot at Amanda. The young detective moved quickly to her right and hid behind an air-con system.
"I DON'T WANT TO BE TRAPPED!" Terrell shouted. Amanda heard someone on the fire escape behind her and watched as Olivia emerged. Rollins turned back to watch Terrell edge closer to his death. The blonde detective, although in severe agony heaved herself up from the gravelly floor and began running towards the young man.
"BRYANT NO!" She screamed as she fell over her own feet and onto her side, her screaming grew louder when her shoulder hit the floor. Benson was also running towards the man, she too was shouting at him. Amanda lay in pain and Olivia continued her run to save the man, he turned and looked at them. Then he dropped over the edge.
Benson stopped, by this point she was at Rollins' side. She dropped onto her knees and looked at her girlfriend. Touched her face while Amanda began to cry both because of sadness and pain. Olivia moved closer to her, pulling her in and wrapping her arms around her. Benson placed a delicate kiss upon Amanda's head as her lover wept. Then she twisted to see Fin stood on the opposite side of the building clutching his bloody shoulder and the two older detectives then looked back out to where the man had disappeared from the skyline only seconds before.
So guys I hope you liked it. I wanted to show that Amanda has this sort of undying love for Liv and will do whatever she needs to, in order to keep her safe. The next chapter will be shortly but I'm not entirely sure where to go from there. Leave me a review and let me know what you think :)
