The weather seemed to be against Darcy's new resolution to try to win Elizabeth's hand as it persisted on raining for three days solid. He knew he was making his sister anxious with his incisive pacing but could not seize doing it, the nervous habit enabled him to channel his thoughts and try to resolve some issues. He had been preparing himself to see Elizabeth wed Edward so had acted indifferent as well as somewhat cold with her when they had interacted after he had gained the knowledge of her engagement. He resolved to fix that rudeness on his part as soon as he was able.

Georgiana watched her brother worriedly as he appeared to grow more agitated by the second as the rain poured on. Unfortunately, for herself the rain meant little to no refuge against the might that was Miss. Bingley who had been in a fury over the sudden announcement of a ball. To make it worse she was taking Georgiana's first proper ball as an opportunity to show Darcy all the reasons why he should marry her. She demonstrated this by instructing Georgiana on how she should behave in certain societies. Georgiana didn't believe in many of Miss. Bingley's teachings but withstood them anyway, however, she drew the line when Miss. Bingley tried to insist upon dressing Georgiana in a dress that was hideous .

The excessive attentions lavished upon Georgiana where bore with grace and patience. As the young woman remembered Elizabeth's comment upon it being 'best to hold our tongue and bear the force of those who wish to dress us up, in my case it's my mother so I know she means well. You Gigi will give me more reason to be in awe of you if you can withstand Miss. Bingley's attentions.' The memory brought a smile on her face as she thought back to the conversation that had taken place upon her call of the Bennet household two days after her friends return home. However, the rain made it near impossible for Georgiana to even escape to the gardens of Netherfield to avoid Miss. Bingley let alone visit her new friend with whom she wished to call sister.

Upon the fourth day of Darcy's resolution the rain seized and the sun sprinkled the morning sky, the sight made Darcy smile when he awoke surprising his valet who could count on one hand how many times he had witnessed his master in a jovial mood. Elizabeth almost squealed with delight at the lack of a single rain drop, she longed to escape the confides of the household due to the frustrating whirlwind that was her mother. Mrs. Bennet had become a force to be reckoned with after the announcement of her daughters engagement, she was ecstatic to have Edward as a son.

"Finally, Mr. Bennet i thought that boy would never act on his feelings. How taxing for my poor nerves, no consideration he has for me. Lizzy teases him about his nervousness to ask for permission. What a frightful figure you must appear my dear." She teased her husband after learning of the news, reflecting with her husband before her daughter gave her the pleasure of bragging about it to all her neighbours. "A daughter soon to be wed, what a blessing."

Mr. Bennet kissed his wife on the cheek before muttering darkly that she always saw the positive light, stating that a loss of a daughter was not his idea of a blessing. Mrs. Bennet tutted at him before reminding him that their girls would have had to leave them sooner rather than later.

"Just think my dear, at least Edward is someone we know. Jane will be wed to Mr. Bingley before we can blink then no doubt our girls will have the benefit of their connections to obtain good matches. Oh, to have them young again, running through these halls. Once more it will only be us." Mr. Bennet smiled at the last remark, remembering as she was the days of which his wife spoke. Smiling sadly he drew her closer her to him, embracing her as she swayed them slightly. Mr. Bennet reminisced on the moment as he sat eating his breakfast, allowing his wife to rest before going to wake her then dealing with estate business.

Quietly, as not to disturbed anyone Elizabeth dressed and slipped down the stairs without making a sound she kissed her father's cheek as she passed him at the table before leaving the restrictions of the house behind. When she was satisfied she was out of sight, Elizabeth hitched up her skirts and ran. Feeling the exhilarating rush of freedom as the wind caressed her face softly. Humming she slowed down, the tune that Mary had been playing repeatedly on the piano had imprinted itself into her mind she began to hum it whilst she walked, it wasn't long before she was singing the tune twirling in the wind enjoying herself immensely. The relief at being able to act indecently just for a moment of time allowed Elizabeth to relax into the day.

She had just stopped spinning as she almost lost her balance, laughing she walked on coming up short when a large dog bound up to her. It wagged its tail enthusiastically dropping the stick that had been in its jaws, it barked once to get her attention. Laughing she curtseyed to the dog as it held up its paw to her.

"A pleasure to meet you too, now you wish me to throw you this stick," she laughed once more as the dog barked in response, "well sir, your wish is my command." She spoke before throwing the stick as far as she could the dog leaped after it at full speed, she watched with a smile as he jumped and captured the stick in his jaw before pivoting quickly to return it to her.

Once in front of her the animal again dropped the stick and sat on his haunches. When the stick was in her hand the dog leant on its front paws raising its tail high in the air. She threw the stick and started to walk on presuming the dog would soon return to its owner.

However, the dog didn't leave her side and continued to walk alongside her barking occasionally when he wished for the stick to be thrown. They continued in this pursuit for a few minutes before Elizabeth's thoughts turned from the tasks that had to accomplished that day to the dogs mystery owner.

"Obviously, you are no stray as you are well nourished you must have an owner who is very worried about you." Elizabeth pondered aloud as she knelt in front of the animal scratching behind its ear making the dog lean into her touch. "Go on boy, I don't mind being left alone my thoughts are company enough - go back to your owner, go on."

A sadness crept over her for a moment as she watched the dog disappear from her view. She knew it was her own fault but the loss was felt anyway. Her mind however, soon diverted her attention as she remembered the odd interaction that Darcy and Wickham had her curious nature couldn't allow her to just ignore the exchange. Also, the gentleman's tale that he had given to Lydia troubled her even more so. She could understand his reason to tarnish Darcy's name but couldn't condone any verbal assault of Georgiana especially when she was such a sweet person.

Darcy's distrustful stares helped increase Elizabeth's dislike of Wickham after his eyes looked at her with same raking gaze that Collins looked at her with. He made her feel dirty which forced her to have a cautious awareness of her cousins where abouts. Recently he had remained quiet, not hassling Hill anymore as he had deemed himself well enough to rejoin the house for meals. Elizabeth had been forced to seek refuge from the mans attentions in her fathers study using work as an excuse. Edward had been avoiding Elizabeth after his conversation with Collins he never kept anything from Elizabeth, but he didn't want her to have to stress about Collins advances and just focus on what needed to be done.

No matter what topic she thought about, Darcy was never far from her mind she couldn't allow herself to indulge in these thoughts for very long before unwanted expectations would start to emerge and it was futile to have such thoughts. She would cherish his friendship whilst she could but not expect anything more, for thinking such things would sure lead to disappointment.

She was not left to her melancholy thoughts for very long as she was met by Mary and Edward who were taking advantage of an early walk to escape the madness of the house. She was still teasing Edward mercilessly about his anxiety that he had expressed at Netherfield.

She thought back to that moment. He had been pacing by the carriage so Elizabeth half guided half dragged him away from Charles and Jane to speak to him privately. Unknown to her she had walked him right under the window that Darcy had been watching her from there he had overheard only snippets of their conversation as the window was open but enough to persuade himself that it was Elizabeth that Edward had come to ask the hand of.

"What is wrong? You only fidget when you're nervous." Elizabeth stated, knowing the habits of her cousin from spending so much time together. She waited patiently for him to tell her, he eventually would have that she was certain.

"I don't know if I can do this Lizzy." He said, his voice just above a whisper. When Elizabeth questioned him, Edward was forced to explain. "I love her, I really do. I've known that since we were kids. But she has only just considered the possibility. What happens if she doesn't love me? Can I face the embarrassment of seeing her whenever I visited. Every yule time, easter or even a birthday having a constant reminder of my unrequited love. I don't think I could cope."

Elizabeth had to restrain herself from rattling her cousin until he had gained some sense, she settled for swatting his arm forcibly. At his cry of pain she silenced him with a look before demanding he stop being foolish.

"Do you really believe her so fickle as to say one thing but change? I know you will have doubts but Eddie, if she is the love of your life and you are hers then she will accept your proposal. Even after I tell her about your lapse in judgement." Elizabeth exclaimed, teasing him in hopes of easing his fears.

"What about Uncle? Surely he has no wish to lose his daughter, especially as one as bright as himself. He does not seem to care for me as he does my other siblings. Perhaps it's because he dislikes me and will therefore decline to bless our union!" Edwards last few words drifted to Darcy who was straining to hear their conversation, all he could see was Mr. Gardiner revealing what appeared a passionate speech and Elizabeth's smiling face that seemed to be in agreement with some parts but comforting at others. His whole body tensed as her words reached his ears, shattering any of his previous thoughts.

"Papa loves you, he has since we were small. He may haggle you, for he will dislike the notion of loosing a daughter. For we are all Bennet's converting one to Mrs. Gardiner will be very stressful to him. Papa will love you because he knows I love you and I am the most judgemental of us all, if you can win my favour then Papa is a walk in the park. Now I think we must return to the others before Jane is persuaded to stay another night."

She was brought back to the present by Mary's laugh and smile as she approached on Edwards arm. Mary too found amusement in the spectacle Mr. Bennet had made of Edward when he finally asked for permission to wed his daughter. Edward had come out of that meeting with the biggest smile on his face the whole household knew the news within a second of seeing his face. That and the loud voice of Mrs. Bennet declaring it was about time that he asked for she was done despairing if he would or not.

Mr. Bennet had been heard chuckling as he heard his wife's words, Elizabeth had been the first to congratulate the new couple. She shared in her father's enjoyment at the spectacle Edward had turned himself into, but they relented it was somewhat reassuring as he only did so for he loved his beloved very much proving that he would care for her in times to come. The approaching couple had now reached her, Mary linked arms with her sister leaving Edward pouting causing the women to laugh at his expression. Teasing him that he used to do the very face when they were younger.

The group moved at a steady pace, talking about how much life had seemed to change before they seemed to notice any alterations.

"I do not mind this change so much." Edward exclaimed walking ahead of the ladies so he was walking backwards. "For who could hate a change that brings me such joy." He yelled before taking Mary's hand extracting her smoothly from Elizabeth who stopped moving and watched with laughter as Edward twirled a blushing Mary around.

"Such joy may be true, however I do not seem to get the recognition that I truly deserve. To think I am related to such selfish people." Elizabeth teased. Mary who had gone bright pink at Edwards spontaneous dance smiled at her sister before taking her hand in hers and hugging her sister with all her might.

"How right you are Lizzy, I can not imagine how happy you are. I know you have wanted this for a long time, Eddy we must give Lizzy her due." Mary stated, after releasing her sister who looked slightly teary.

"It appears we have made our Lizzy cry, how thoughtless of us. My lady," he said bowing before her, "would you allow me to have this dance."

Laughing Elizabeth wiped away her sudden tears and accepted his hand, Mary clapped and giggled as she watched joining in when Elizabeth insisted she must a thought that was supported by Edward who all but dragged Mary into the mix. They did not know how long they danced but realised that they must return before Mrs. Bennet had a frenzy.

Too preoccupied with laughing at themself, none of them saw the broken looking Darcy who had stumbled across the scene at Mary's words. Orion, had run off and he had been in search of his animal when he witnessed the scene that made his heart-break. He was about to turn and try somewhere else, when Orion brushed passed him heading straight for the trio.

"Orion!" He whisper shouted hoping not to draw the attention of the group, the dog paused looking at his master as if confused. Darcy tried telling him to come, but the dog was confused by all the mad hand movements that his master was doing. Hearing Elizabeth's musical laugh Darcy looked up to see what was the source. It was Miss. Mary, he scowled at himself he was even jealous of her sisters for they got to speak to her where he did not.

The loss of eye contact with Orion, allowed the dog to continue walking to the group brushing himself against Elizabeth's hand that dangled at her side. Darcy felt a surge of jealousy at the contact but shook it off, scorning himself severely for envying his own dog.

"Why sir you return, does your owner know you're well?" Elizabeth said curtseying to the dog before reaching to stroke behind his ears. Making the dog wag his tail enthusiastically at the contact. "I'd hope so, otherwise I will be most displeased sir."

Darcy watched with fascination at the interaction. When had Elizabeth met Orion? He asked himself before rationalizing Orion had disappeared whilst he had been too preoccupied with his thoughts to entertain his dog by throwing the stick. He couldn't help but smile at the scene it tugged at his heart to see her so comfortable with his animals, reminding him of her interactions with Beauty. He felt like they had grown closer as she had allowed him to understand her, however that had been shattered by the appearance of Edward.

So lost in his thought he had not noticed that Orion had in his eager state jumped up, surprising Elizabeth who lost her balance and fell to the ground. Orion, confused at the sudden fall was climbing all over her skirts preventing her from getting back up.

"Orion!" He scolded, making himself visible as he commanded the dog by his side before apologising to Elizabeth. She waved him off laughing that he was just checking she was unhurt, as any gentleman would.

"A gentleman he is not, for I suspect he is the reason for your fall." Darcy stated, eyeing his dog darkly. Orion was sitting on his haunches panting in that way dogs do, almost as if they are smiling.

"Spying are we Mr. Darcy?" She teased, brushing her skirts trying to get the visible spots of mud off before it ruined her skirt and she would be forced to endure another lecture from her mother. She couldn't prevent her lips from twitching upwards at the slight pink that painted the proud man's ears as he shuffled uncomfortably.

"I was searching for, Orion, he has a bad habit of running off then getting into places that he can't see to get out off." Darcy explained, rubbing the top of the dog's head when Orion butted his hand for attention.

"You name your horse after the messenger of the gods and christen your hunting companion, Orion after the God of hunting." Elizabeth mused aloud, blushing slightly after realising what she had revealed.

"You know of Greek mythology?" He asked amazed at the extent of her knowledge. Elizabeth was relieved that she didn't detect any disgust in the features of Mr. Darcy. It was not ladylike to read such heavy material, it was a man's job to know and a woman's to look presentable - according to her Aunt Phillip. Even Mrs. Bennet disagreed with this theory but did agree that it wasn't ladylike to read such texts, "a man does not want a wife who is smarter than them. What are we to do with you Lizzy, no man values intellect over beauty." She would exclaim repeatedly, even know Elizabeth could hear the words as if her Mother was there scolding her.

Sensing her sisters discomfort Mary who had been talking quietly to Edward about their opinions decided to intervene.

"Mr. Darcy, I trust everyone at Netherfield is well." The gentleman gave a positive reply before greeting her then lapsing into silence. Elizabeth watched with a disappointed expression about the way Darcy retreated into himself once again.

"Mr. Darcy! To what do we owe this pleasure?" Edward asked, trying to keep the knowing smile off his face as he registered the sly glance at Elizabeth the gentleman took before answering the question.

"My hound, it appears has taken an interest in wandering off. I have spent the majority of my walk searching for him. Do you wander the country often?" Orion, Elizabeth noted was lulling lazily in the sun looking at Darcy with little puppy eyes.

"No, Mary and I do enjoy the odd wander in the morning but we do have to own that the outdoors is really Lizzy's domain." Edwards added the last slyly turning the conversation back to them.

"Miss. Elizabeth, I do hope Orion has not injured you in with his boisterous manners. I assure you he is not normally so disobedient." Darcy muttered quietly to her, slightly turning his back on Edward as to try to have some resemblance of a private conversation.

So distracted by trying to decipher if Darcy's sentence was out of polite conversation topic or genuine concern, Elizabeth didn't hear Mary non too subtly drag Edward away 'to look at the view' leaving the couple conveniently out of ear shot of them.

"You are inferring sir, that your hound is immune to your stern frown. However will you hold your head in Town again, such shame." She teased smiling shyly up at him as she awaited his response.

"Orion, I believe as you declare has built up an immunity to me. I am a Darcy it is my duty to hold a certain image." He said with a disappointment tinting his tone. "fortunately, the reality of my situation is not as grim as most and I have more choice then I admit. However, everyone is a slave to duty in one way or another."

Elizabeth was stunned for a few moments, pondering over the meaning of his words. unfortunately, she was left to agree with Darcy on this account as she did truly believe that everyone had ties of duty even those that thought they did not were only deceived by their own illusions.

"True, Mr. Darcy duty is a heavy burden to carry especially the load you are under. Caring for your sister, your tenants whilst living up to the Darcy legacy and your families expectations. I must commend you, for I do not believe I know a better person that could take your place, myself included." Her lips twitched as she watched a blush wash across his face making his ears glow pink as he refused such praise.

"My steward does more than myself, I just overlook the details he shows me. A man with more patience than myself will be much better.I find myself too inclined to hold people to their past mistakes." He muttered modestly rubbing the back of his neck self-consciously.

"Lizzy, we must be on our way. Mama will be in a state if she can't see us, especially with all the preparations left to do. I pleasure to meet you Mr. Darcy but I'm afraid we must be on our way." Mary interrupted curtseying as she took her leave with Elizabeth who copied her sister left in haste as to avoid their mothers rath.

Darcy realised that Edward had not left and couldn't help but ask him.

"I am in no hurry to be surrounded by the raptures of my mother-to-be. She means well I suppose but I do not envy my cousins who will have to endure until they each are wed." Edward smiled cheerily, blissfully ignorant of the colour draining from Darcy's face as he asked to what the young man refered to.

"My wedding of course. I have persuaded my beautiful Miss. Bennet to convert to a Mrs. Gardiner, she accepted my hand thankfully. I must be off, Lizzy will have my head if I leave her to Mrs. Bennet again." He added, clapping Darcy on the back as he passed. Unaware of the turmoil that was going on in the mans head as he automatically offered his congratulations to Edward. Before he was left with only Orion for company, he wandered aimlessly for what seemed like hours the sun was on the verge of setting before he headed back to Netherfield - Orion in tow.

"Darcy!" Bingley exclaimed upon spotting his friends imposing figure advancing towards the house. "I was about to send out a search party, you have been missing for the day. Poor Georgiana is worried sick."

Darcy flinched at the reprimand that flew from his friends lips. He was completely justified in his scolding but Darcy could not bring himself to understand the worry he had caused. He apologised to his host before asking where his sister was, slowly he forced his feet to the music room from which he heard a sombre melody being played.

Silently he entered, watching his sister open herself to the piano. He couldn't help the numbness that he felt at the thought of what a great influence Elizabeth had been to open his sister up. He coughed, startling Georgiana who had been absorbed in playing away her worry for her absentee brother.

"Fitz! You're home." She yelled before launching herself into his arms, reflexly he caught her engulfing her in a large hug. She hugged him tightly in return, before pushing him away so she could see his face better.

"Where have you been? What is wrong brother?" The crushed look on her usually sterns brother's face diminished any anger she felt towards him. He muttered that he had lost track of time and that he was tired, he affectionately kissed her forehead before heading to bed.

Georgiana, stood alone watching Darcy's retreating back a moment before she called out to him.

"Fitzwilliam! Where are you going?" She demanded in a tone that argued no disputes on his part. Startled out of his sombre airs by the tone he turned to his sister and looked at her slightly, raising an eyebrow in question. "I have been worried sick about you all day. Then when you do come home, you're dismissive of myself and don't even give a proper explanation. I may only be your sister but I have the right to know what's wrong, I am not a child Fitz."

"Gigi, nothing is wrong I assure you. I simply lost track of tim-" he started to say before he was cut across by his sister who was looking sadly at him shaking her head.

"Elizabeth said she saw you in her morning walk, she has kept me company all day and managed to prevent myself from going after you." Gigi watched the hurt flash over her brother eyes at her friend's name. "What happened this morning?"

Darcy realised that his sister deserved an explanation for why he had been awol all day but was unsure how to tell her of what he had learnt. Instead he focused upon the object that struck him odd.

"Miss. Elizabeth was here? Did Mrs. Bennet no longer need her for the preparations." He asked not even trying to hide the despair mixed with hope in his voice.

"Yes, she was here. Mr. Bingley and Colonel Fitzwilliam went to deliver the invitations to the ball. She came once she heard that you. Yes, you. Had gone missing and I was loosing my mind." Georgiana scolded her brother, once again feeling her again build up. However, she remembered Elizabeth words of comfort and reminders to be patient with her brother for he surely would have a good explanation.

"Dearest, truly I am sorry. I never meant to cause you any pain or suffering. My actions were selfish I can see that and I wish for you to accept my apology." He asked desperately, he couldn't be at odds with his sister because he was hurting he would not be selfish.

"Of course I forgive, I'm just glad you are safe." Georgiana eyed her brother skeptically." However, you did not give a suitable reason as to your absence."

Darcy inhaled deeply before approaching his sister, gently he placed his hands on her upper arms before he spoke. "I have no valid excuse or plausible reason for my wandering. My only answer is the truth, I was too occupied with my thoughts to have a conscious awareness of time."

Georgiana stated that she would have to accept his truth and would respect his privacy for now.

"Thank you dearest. If you will spare me some more patience to change, I would like it of you entertain me with stories about your day." The one spent with Elizabeth. He added internally.

Darcy had resigned himself to seeing Elizabeth being happy, even if that meant her marrying Edward. He would content himself on loving her from a far he scorned himself for even entertaining such a romaticalistic view. He sounded like Bingley, karma was a funny thing he had muttered to himself as he trudged home.

He saw this as retribution for all the time he had scorned Bingley for his infatuations with ladies. Unfortunately, for himself, Darcy understood himself to be in love and knew it was no passing fancy. These facts didn't prevent the gentleman from trying to persuade himself so.

Georgiana sat with her cousin whilst they awaited the return of Darcy.

"When do you think he will tell her that he loves her. Do you think before Yule time? I would love a sister for Yule." Georgiana babbled on, her excitement for her brothers happiness exceeding the actual event happening and was blissfully ignorant of the obstacles that stood in the couples way.

"Gigi, we must not get ahead of ourselves. First he has to see that Edward is not a rival for Miss. Elizabeth's hand. Your brothers sense of duty would over ride any attachment he may have formed on Miss. Elizabeth." Colonel observed, understanding the true scruples the couple would have to overcome if they were to unite.

"How could I overlook such a flaw in our master plan!" Georgiana exclaimed mischievously, raising her eyebrow in a knowing look before she engaged her cousin in a more informative pursuit. "Tell me oh wise Richard. When am I to expect the announcement of your engagement cousin?"

The colonel sat stunned, he had thought he had been discreet in his admiration. He had told the Gardiner of his reasonings for their interactions which allowed Elizabeth to find out , however he had been sworn secrecy on her part. He couldn't understand how she had found out, he hadn't even told his beloved of his affections, although she was reassured in his attentions there was no understanding between the two.

"I am not blind Richie. Nor am I oblivious to the looks of one in love, even if I haven't experienced it personally." Georgiana told her cousin who was still shocked by how much his little cousin saw.

Thankfully, he was saved from answering by the return of Darcy who wore a deep scowl, they were about to enquire at his frown before he was followed into the room by Miss. Bingley and a chirpy Bingley.

"Georgy, there you are! I heard that Miss. Eliza was with you today. I apologise for leaving you in such poor company I was being forced to endure much worse by this neighbourhood. I do not understand why we had to hand deliver all the invites Charles." Caroline whined as she walked into the room, ignorant of the angry glares of the room.

Mustering as much patience as he could Bingley replied, "Due to the short time the ball will be held, it was quicker to hand deliver them to the surrounding families." He had told his sister this exact fact repeatedly during their voyage.

"Well we wouldn't be so strapped for time if you had been thinking rationally when telling the Bennet's of when the ball was to be held." She sniffed, settling herself by Georgiana who had hoped that her brother would take the next before the woman could.

However, her brother had taken up his infamous past time of watching out the window as the sun finally settled in the sky. The last rays blanketed her brother's face in a golden warmth that made him appear more youthful, as well as the wishful look upon his features. His face remained peaceful for a few moments until a moment of realisation washed over his features and he stared out into the on coming night with cold sternness.

Georgiana watched the transition of his features with alarm, expressed clearly on her face, drawing Miss. Bingley's attention to his mood.

"Mr. Darcy surely you agree with me." She called, demanding his notice. The man in question looked at Caroline with a questioning look. "It will be a true test of our patients to entertain such trivial company all evening, when they are so beneath us."

Mr. Darcy was tired of hearing such insults of the areas company, that multiples by his sour mood saw his snap at Miss. Bingley. "I can't comprehend your evaluation of stations. For if I remember correctly everyone that has been invited was born of gentle birth, a status that is higher than those who got their fortunes from trade."

His words stunned the room, Caroline blossomed a deep red unable to stammer her next words. She hated any reminder of her lower status that she was brought because of her father's source of wealth. Unable to contain her expression she hastily left the soon as Caroline left the room Darcy apologised profusely to Charles for any offense caused.

"Do not be so apologetic, I am afraid she would have carried on the way she has if she was not checked. I am only sorry that it was you not I who had done so." Bingley answered. "Let's hope she understands the ramifications of her words and changes them before any real harm is done."

The group agreed to the words before conversing on a more light topic for the remainder of the time before they were called to dine. Caroline was absent from the table and requested a tray to her room, Mrs. Hurst was the hostess for the evening and couldn't help but fit into the role with ease as it was her right anyway.

The successful evening of contentedness left Bingley thinking upon ways to check his sister's behaviour before she embarrassed herself and by extension the family further.

Georgiana who felt sympathetic towards the young woman couldn't help but feel the need to attend to her friend. She knocked on Miss. Bingley's door before entering as she heard a muffled sound through the door.

She was surprised at the scene she saw before her, Miss. Bingley sat in front of her vanity with red tear streaks staining her pretty face. Catching Georgiana's eye in the mirror, Caroline turned towards the girl seeking reassurance.

"You think I'm pretty, right Georgy?" She demanded to know, her ego had suffered the abuse of the reality of her station by the man she had sworn she would be married to. The young Darcy could only hasten to reassure the lady of her beauty.

"Of course Caroline, why would you doubt such a thing?" Although she knew the answer, she thought it best to they and calmly dissuade her of any further desperate pleas for reassurance.

"I know I am beautiful, I am all that a man should desire in his wife." Caroline said, as she turned back to stare at her reflection. Georgiana was wise enough not to comment as she knew it was not what Caroline wanted to her to say but just listen. "So why does he not even look at me the way he looks at her?"

Georgiana was at a lost as to who Miss. Bingley was referring, so asked for clarification.

"I'm talking about Miss. Eliza, who else would draw Darcy's attention from me with her impertant behaviour and wanton manners!" She exclaimed frustrated at Georgiana's slowness to comprehend. "I can not blame him. For how is it his fault that he is bewitched by such a harlot, the infatuation will not last long, I took care of that."

As the emotionally driven woman delivered her speech she strode across the room, picking up her unattended glass of wine and took a large gulp before refilling her glass with the bottle that was on the side. Georgiana couldn't hide her shock at the words she was hearing nor the speculations that formed in her mind. She was imagining the worst possible scenarios of Caroline's version of taking care of something.

"Don't look so repulsed Georgy, I didn't do something as drastic as your little head is picturing. I suppose it's all those novels you read, filling your head with fantasies about true love and such."

Georgiana was smart enough to recognise when someone was too deep in their cups to see reason she had only witnessed such displays from a woman one other time, when her cousin had snuck some wine at christmas.

"However, all I did was speed up the inevitable. Mr. Collins is an easily manipulated pawn especially for a clergyman, I suppose that his desperate need for a wife aided him to blatantly ignore the look of disgust Eliza gave him. The fool believes that she awaits his proposal most keenly." Caroline laughed amused at her own story, she was feeling very light-headed as she mad her way to her bed. She muttered about lying down for a second, as soon as her eyes closed she began snoring.

Georgiana upon hearing the loud snores left the room as quietly as possible. She couldn't fully absorb what she had just heard, she needed to calm herself if she was ever to rest tonight. She headed towards her room of refuge - the music room. It was still early enough in the evening that she didn't worry about waking anyone and she was sure to shut the door behind her to muffle the sound more. Once she felt exhausted from her playing she dragged her feet to her room, after she undressed with the help from her maid that she dismissed she fell asleep dreaming about riding at Pemberley with her brother and Elizabeth.

The Bennet household had received no peace upon the exit of their visitors after the invitation was delivered. Elizabeth, Mary and Edward had not been dressed appropriately in the eyes of Mrs. Bennet upon their re-entry to the house. Mrs. Bennet scorned them for taxing her nerves.

"... to leave the house dressed as such. When anyone can see you, as well. What would people say if they saw you in such a state. The talk would be unbearable, your sisters and I would never be able to been seen as respectable again. Why must you try me so, after everything I have done for you to provide for you and get you the best possible matches you ruin that by dressing at such." Mrs. Bennet was soon slouching against her chair, fanning herself viciously as though the heat of the chilly morning was too much for her.

"Mama, they would not have been seen. You know they would not have travelled far as they have too much compassion for your nerves." Jane soothed her mother out of her fit that didn't last much longer as Mary tactfully distracted her with wedding preparation talk.

Both Edward and Elizabeth sought refuge from Mrs. Bennet in the study, a place she wouldn't dare trespass without an invite from her husband as she understood his need to be isolated from such womanly talks. She extended some of this understanding to her soon to be son-in-law, however to her second child she did not.

"Elizabeth Bennet! Where do you think you are going?" She called as she spied her daughter trying to enter the study unseen. "Are you not apart of this wedding?"

She stomped on Edwards foot as she passed in retaliation as he sweet talked her mother into allowing him to leave.

"Surely, Aunt that your keen eye for beautiful work won't require any approval from me as I will be bound to love anything you choose." He charmed her until she shooed him away from the room so that she could plan the best wedding Meryton would have seen since her own.

She was forced to endure the topic of lace and frills to last a life time the only calming fact was the Mary hated it as much as she did, Jane braved it with calm nurturing persona that she did with everything. Lydia and Kitty had escaped upon the pretence of having promised to call on their aunt, when they were only using their aunt's hospitality to meet some officers for their aunt and uncle enjoyed entertaining people and gaining the best gossip in Meryton to relate to their two nieces.

Kitty had tried to stay and help her sister prepare for the wedding, but was forced into going by her mother and Lydia then by Mr. Bennet who would not allow Lydia to leave on her own. A statement that brought a cry of outrage from the youngest Bennet that didn't quieten until Kitty had assented to going with her.

It was nearing lunch when the Netherfield party arrived, sending the room into chaos as Mrs. Bennet set about putting the room into some order and setting each daughter at an act of ladylike pursuits. Jane blushed becomingly at the attention she was shown by Mr. Bingley who didn't look at any other person in the room even when he addressed them.

Mrs. Bennet ordered tea and persuaded them to stay a while before they had to be off. The idea was only disputed by Miss. Bingley who stood apart from the group as a whole.

"Surely we cannot stay for long Charles, we have to deliver all the other invites as well as attend to Miss. Darcy in her distress." She whispered harshly to her brother before he seated himself by Jane and embarked in conversation.

"I hope all is well with Miss. Darcy." Elizabeth remarked, upon hearing the end of Caroline's sentence, to Richard.

"Her health is fine I can assure you." Richard stated, thinking how well Darcy and Elizabeth complimented each other as they both cared deeply for those they considered under their protection. "She is just worried as Darcy has not yet returned from his walk."

The confusion and worry that sprinted across Elizabeth's features were genuine as was her concern displayed for Georgiana, unlike the words that came from Caroline that used her friends distress as an excuse.

"Why is no one with her now?" Elizabeth asked out loud, slightly appalled at the neglect the poor girl was shown.

"I could not remain for I have urgent business with Colonel Forster, something that could not be postponed." The Colonel looked truly angry at whatever matter had prevented him from tending to his ward, his expression allowed for no interrogation from Elizabeth. "Georgiana told Miss. Bingley to go and help Bingley, arguing it would be a waste for more than one to remain home to see if her brother returned."

She could not prevent the disapproval that pulled her features into a slight frown, before she checked her emotions and placed a civil mask on. "Surely, she was not to be so easily persuaded by such words. Poor Gigi, how long will your business take sir?" She inquired, as a plan formed in her mind.

The answer she received cemented her resolve to visit her friend and offer whatever comfort she could. Upon making up her mind she bid the room adieu after telling her mother she had forgotten to return a visit she left. She asked the stable hand to ready Buttercup as she donned the borrowed habit that Georgiana refused to take back.

After thanking Davis she mounted Jane's mare and set off for Netherfield. She relaxed into the movement of riding once more, feeling the rush of freedom again made her smile widely. Within the brief time she was on the back of the horse she could forget all her worries, everything. Her fears about falling vanished as did her confusion over her feelings for a certain gentleman and the grief of loosing a sister maybe two in the near future. She allowed herself to be comforted in the knowledge that she had gained a sister in Miss. Darcy and could see her grow to be a great lady.

She was greeted at the steps of Netherfield by a trembling Georgiana, once she had dismounted and given instructions to the stable hand that she gave the reins to Buttercup she embraced Miss. Darcy.

The girl's resolve crumbled upon contact, she hung onto Elizabeth for dear life as if fearing she was her only life line. Elizabeth made soothing noises as she gently rocked Georgiana, as she felt how cold she was she unwrapped her arms and pulled away from the embrace.

"How long have you been out here? Actually don't tell me, for I have no wish for you to exert yourself before you are warm." Elizabeth stated before taking her into the house. "Let's get you inside and warmed up before you catch your death standing out in the cold."

Elizabeth took the intuition and ordered a warm set of tea to be made and the fire in the music room to be heated as well as a shawl to be brought for Miss. Darcy. She wrapped the shawl around her before ensuring she was sat near the fire and had a warm drink in her hands.

They sar in silence for a few minutes as they each warmed up, Elizabeth had removed her jacket and the riding hat on the seat beside her as she warmed up.

"How are you feeling?" Elizabeth voiced the question quietly as if afraid to startle the woman opposite her.

"Warm." Georgiana replied also in a hushed tone before laughing at their silliness. "Oh, how foolish of me to stand outside unprotected against the elements." She scorned herself before complimenting Elizabeth on her quick thinking something that was not accepted.

"Come now Lizzy, if it wasn't for your arrival I would still be outside. Take credit when it is due." She insisted upon it before the older woman bowed to her agreement.

Georgiana wished to know of why she had come and was delighted in the answer. "You rode a horse, without provocation to see if I am well." The idea of being important to Elizabeth pleased Georgiana greatly who had been hoping for a sister that would be kind to her and had found one. The notion of her brother finding a bride that disliked Georgiana installed fear into her and was the main reason why she had accepted her brothers long-standing bachelor claim.

"Who can not care for you? I imagine your coming out will cause quite a stir in the Ton." The change of topic was skillfully done as a tactic to distract her companion of her woes for her brother.

"I do not think I anticipate such a positive response. For my fortune is vast and I fear those who will try for my hand will only be fortune hunters." Georgiana commented voicing her fears for the first time, she had made the decision to be presented at court next year as she felt herself ready but now doubts invaded her mind.

"Gigi, you should not worry. For though your fortune is great you are forgetting a very important thing." Elizabeth explained further at the lost expression. "Mr. Darcy is a formidable man, who will dissuade many fortune hunters with his stern look. Just one look will send many quaking in their boots."

The image presented made Georgiana giggle at the picture of all the fashionably dressed gentlemen of the Ton, shaking in their boots below the imposing figure of her brother.

"He is quiet something to behold. He does not wish for me to enter society so soon." She muttered staring into the flames of the fire as a tear escaped the confines of her eyes and rested upon her cheek before it was wiped away by the soft touch of Elizabeth.

"You must grow up, even if those that love you do not wish it. The pain and suffering that will come from the world is inevitable and you have borne more than others from such a young age." Elizabeth soothed wiping more tears from the young girls face. "But I have faith in you as does those that truly love and know you. For you are brave, sweet and observant to see people for who they truly are. Society is a truly fickle, judgmental and hypocritical place, but it must be borne with grace and as a Darcy you have every right to hold your head up high and enjoy yourself. No one will rush you if you are not ready nor prevent you if you believe you are, it's all up to you dearest but I will always have faith in you and support your choices."

Nodding her head they cleared away her tears and Elizabeth watched as Georgiana laughed at herself once more for being so emotional. As to distract the young girl from her trials,Elizabeth entertained her with stories about her youth.

"...I was not going to have him challenge me, for I was Captain Bennet the bravest pirate on the whole sea. So I climbed the tree, as quickly as I could to retrieve the flag that had been blown there by the wind. I tore my dress in three places climbing up, but I deemed my bounty worth the boon as the look on Eddy's face was a picture. However, my victory was short-lived." Elizabeth paused in her tale as she noticed the time, it was growing late and she had to return home before it was too dark to ride.

"I fell out of the tree, as on my descent my skirt caught on a branch and refused to become free. My balance was lost and I landed on my sister, Mary, who was most displeased at softening my landing. I did not care for I had proved my title and went to retrieve my treasure of Edwards favourite toy. My mother banned me from going outside for a whole month as well as forbade me to speak to Edward and sent me to Papa's study for the duration of my sentence. In there I was taught many things and I learnt an appreciation for learning and reading, dearest I fear i must be off before it is too dark."

The realisation of the time reached Georgiana who had become so lost in the tales that Elizabeth spun that she didn't the notice the passing of several hours.

"It seems that time has run away with us, thank you for keeping me occupied." Georgiana whispered as they hugged before she mounted the horse.

"Remember Gigi, he must have a very valid reason for making you worry so much. Let him explain before you unleash your wrath, if he has not returned by the morrow I will help look for him as we saw him this morning upon my own morning walk." She advised before she instructed Buttercup to move. As she travelled home she saw a figure walking towards the house, she easily spotted the outline of Orion by the gentleman's side.

"Thank goodness." She whispered before forcing her horse into a gallop as the sun began to set, she wanted to make it home before dark as to be able to hear of how the visit went and dine with her family.

She was greeted by the leering glances of Mr. Collins upon her arrival at the bottom of the stairs after changing into the proper attire.

"Cousin, why you look ravishing this evening. I would like to take this moment to ellicte the first set with you at the Netherfield ball." His request was voiced with no polite way with which she could deny him, she had hoped to be asked by Darcy to dance but brushed the prospect off as soon as it formed in her mind. She would have to careful otherwise she would be in trouble for falling to a forbidden man.

"I would also like a set with all of my lovely cousins. Jane the second if you would please as Mr. Bingley so stealthy asked for your first. Mary your third..." Elizabeth was successful in drowning out the chatter of the gentleman. She had avoided him for the whole duration of being trapped indoors by aiding her mother.

She had discovered that Mr. Collins would not enter a room if the woman were musing of wedding details. He seemed to turn a shade of green and was visibly uncomfortable if asked about his opinion. Something that was deemed odd, considering his willingness to give Lady Catherine's advice to everyone. When questioned his reply was sharp and short a contrast to his usual long-winded declarations.

"Lady Catherine has repeatedly informed me that I must not trouble myself with trivial women topics as a man of my standing my intellect is wasted upon such useless things." His words had annoyed Mrs. Bennet so much that she had forced him out the room, and continued to do so by making him feel uncomfortable by glaring at him whilst talking loudly about lace and thrills.

The remainder of the evening passed with peace as Mrs. Bennet allowed the wedding preparations to go untouched as she was occupied by Mr. Bennet as they sat awake as they sent their girls to bed, Mr. Collins had retired an hour before as Lydia repeatedly talked over him taxing his patience. As they watched them climb the stairs they remembered specific moments of when they were infants.

Meanwhile the girls slept almost instantly as they had been worn out by the days excursions.

Elizabeth awoke before the sun had risen, she dressed and slipped down the stairs without making a sound. She grabbed an apple from the kitchen as she passed as well as some pastries before leaving the restrictions of the house behind.

She walked steadily for a specific destination that she could watched the sun could make the darkness disappear. She reaches her destination quickly, and settled herself comfortably on a fallen log to watch the show before her. However, before it began she heard a rustling and she turned and jumped to her feet as she narrowly avoided being slobbered on by Orion.

"Good morning boy, did you run off again?" She asked as she seated herself once more, stroking the back of Orion's ears setting the black tail wagging enthusiastically. Once he smelled the food, he was trying to get to it. Laughing at his antics Elizabeth pulled out the pastry offering it to the hound who wolfed it down in seconds before looking at her for more.

"I'm sorry sir, but I have no more." She giggled as the dogs ears drooped slightly and he placed his head on his paws lying on the floor pleading with his eyes for more.

"Orion," came an exasperated call. "Where are you? There you are , how many times do I have to tell you to not run off... Miss. Bennet I did not see you there"

Mr. Darcy blushed before bowing formally to Elizabeth once he noticed her presence. He went to say something but was hushed by Elizabeth whose attention was turned towards the east.

"Be quiet a moment and just watch." She whispered, a command that he found himself obeying.

Gold tendrils decorated the dark sky painting it a warm pink before the orange emerged from beneath the protection of the hill, defending the sky with a vengeance. Following the burst of orange the ball of flames danced Into the sky setting the day a light, everything its fingers touched burst into life. Birds began their songs as they awoke to the touch of the sun. Bathed in the warmth of the morning the fog that crowded the fields dispersed recoiling at the hot touch of orange.

The beauty rendered the spectators speechless as they watched the sunrise.

"It's so beautiful, no matter how many times I see it. I believe it feels like the very first time." She whispered shattering the silence with her soft words that seemed to echo in the stillness around them.

"Sunrise is beautiful indeed, but it is not the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed." Darcy admitted looking intently at Elizabeth who turned to dispute his claim only shut her mouth as his meaning was understood. Her blush heated her face as it turned a becoming shade of pink that Darcy was starting to adore.

"You do not need to flatter me Mr. Darcy, for I know that I am no real beauty. Jane was always that in my family." Elizabeth said, refusing to meet his eye once more.

Darcy became angry at whoever had told her such untruths. "I will not have you say such lies. I have heard you voice maniere opinions that aren't your own but this one surely you do not believe." The silence spoke volumes to him, as he tried to see Elizabeth's expression.

"How well you seem to know me sir, so much so that I can not even hide behind my humour as armour." She declared with a sad smile that made Darcy want to reach out and touch her face.

"Why must you protect yourself from me?" He asked quietly, wanting to know if she was as affected by him as he was her. "Do I frighten you so much?"

She laughed slightly at the thought, this made him relax a little.

"Why would you frighten me sir? Surely you are aware that my courage only rises with any attempt to intimidate me." She teased, as she stood distancing herself from him. "I can see through your armour just as well as you can see the flaws in mine."

The admittance of mutual understanding of each other hung in the air between them. Darcy was unsure how to engage in conversation with her, for she was engaged although she already had his heart without his consent.

He realised in that moment that he never stood a chance to protect himself from her as she was the perfect woman for him but was already taken. He shook his head slightly before forcing himself into conversation, making an effort to show that he would always be her friend if he couldn't be her husband.

"Do you often watch the sunrise?" He inquired before berating himself for asking such a mundane question.

Elizabeth was in a daze of her own, she realised that she too couldn't prevent herself from falling for she already had, before she even realised.

"I believe its one of life's wonders, a mystical thing that few take the time to appreciate." She answered closing her eyes to enjoy the sensation of the suns touch on her skin ignorant of the jealous rage that Darcy was experiencing towards the sun.

"I most relate some troubling news to you sir." Elizabeth spoke turning to him once more. "Though you have no need for alarm I believe it is best that you are informed. Especially since the source was intent upon tarnishing your good name."

Darcy was stunned for a second, whilst he tried to understand her cryptic meaning. He knew only one person who would wish to tarnish his name and he was awaiting transportation to a prison as he stood with Elizabeth. "Consider me warned as to not be so alarmed. Pray continue, for you have intrigue me."

Elizabeth nodded before turning to face the sun once more, "I ask you not to judge too harshly as some parts I relate will not show my family in the best light." Once she had retracted a promise from him to reserve any judgement the best he could, she continued.

"The tale I relate is of course concerning a Mr. Wickham, with whom I am to understand that you are familiar." She asked, coyly asking for his account of events she did not wish to believe the man who was willing to spread his tale upon a stranger.

"Yes, Mr. Wickham and I were childhood companions. He was the son of my father's steward so we were often together, my father saw great potential in him so when Mr. Wickham senior died my father paid for his upbringing." Darcy recalled surprised at his willingness to disclose such information.

"The gentleman said as much, however his tale did not end there as I'm sure you're aware." Elizabeth continued aware of the agitated expression on Darcy's face. "He proclaimed a long tale full of woe and betraying to Lydia presumably before we met you in Meryton. She related the tale when we reached our Aunt's house. You will be relieved to know that the story was disputed and declared untruthful, I do not expect it to extend any further than those in the room. However, if it did I must inform you that Gigi was mentioned in his web of lies."

Darcy clenched his fists repeatedly, his face a mask of rage. "How dare he try to tarnish her name after everything he has done." He muttered in spite the anger building up within him.

A light touch on his arm brought him to reality as he looked to see its source to discover it was Elizabeth looking up with concerned eyes. Her look made him regain control of his emotions before he implored about what exactly was told about his sister.

"I do not wish to cause you pain but I will do as you ask. Lydia said that Wickham always loved Miss. Darcy, they planned to be married just as the late Darcy had wished. However, he discovered that once her father died that Miss. Darcy was a proud woman who wouldn't even speak to those she considered below her station" Upon seeing the darkening of his features she hastened to reassure him that no one believed his words. "It is evident to those that ever met her that she is just shy. Anyone that believes his lies is not worth her time nor yours."

Darcy calmed for a moment at hearing those words before asking a question that needed the answer to. "Would you have believed him, if he hadn't mentioned Gigi?" He asked quietly, at first Elizabeth thought she had imagined him asking the question before he repeated it a little louder.

"Oh, I was unsure if you had spoken the first time. My answer would be a most defiant no, even before you arrived Mr. Wickham made me uneasy the way he looked at my sisters and I was unnerving. Your own dislike of the gentleman I must own helped secure my disapproval further."

Darcy felt a bubble pride od Elizabeth for being able to recognise what a cad the gentleman was. It made him pleased that she used his opinion to help aid her own. "You will be comforted to know that your sisters are safe from his rake ways. He is being sent to a debtors prison for all of the money that he owes. He uses his charm to extend credit from the local businesses before he runs away after dis-honouring the tradesmen's daughters."

Elizabeth gasped at the information, she felt true sympathy towards those deceived by the sweet talking rake. "What become of the daughters?" She asked, knowing that their families would disown them and leave them stranded on their own.

"I have helped find employment for those that needed it, others who conceived a child have been offered a place at Pemberley. Where they may care for their children and both mother and child will find employment on the grounds." Darcy explained, watching as Elizabeth's features changed from concern to shock.

"How pitiful Miss. Bingley's exclamation of your kindness appear in light of the extent of it." Elizabeth teased, it was not in her nature to be so serious for so long.

"Indeed, I must surely seek someone better equiped to brag about my achievements." He said, a playful sparkle captivating Elizabeth as she stared into his eyes.

"Poor Miss. Bingley. She does try so hard to please you sir." Elizabeth stated tearing her gaze away from his.

"I have tried in vain for years to discourage her advances. No matter what I say she continues to pursue me." He explained, voicing his frustration. "Surely, you can recommend a solution to me."

He looked pleadingly at her, begging with his eyes for her give him a solution to absolve the issue. "If I were to believe that I could guide you to end this futile pursuit, what would be my reward for such an act."

Darcy smiled at her teasing, before answering truthfully "you would have my undying gratitude."

She stood still, making him fidget in his anxiety to know if she would help him or leave him to his fate. "Undying gratitude you say? That sounds fair, so would you like to hear my solution?" She asked watching as his face broke into a heart stopping smile that deprived her of any rational thought for a moment.

He nodded his assent and waited patiently for her to gather her thoughts once more. "Now sir, you must remember that there is no guarantee that it will work and you would need to secure the aid of Mr. Bingley." Darcy listened with apt attention as she revealed her idea declaring it a very wise idea and scorning himself for not thinking of it sooner.

"I must say you deserve my undying gratitude and Gigi is better of having you as a friend than foe. May the lord protect those who ever cross you." Darcy laughed with her as he remembered his conversation with his cousin and Bingley when they discussed who Mr. Collins was planning to take as a wife.

"I hope you left Gigi in good health this morning and intend to return to Netherfield this morning." She questioned looking pointedly at him.

Darcy looked at his shoes aware that he deserved what ever tongue lashing she deemed fit to give him. For it was her who had distracted his sister from her pain and helped ease her worrying over him.

"I do intend to return, that is my goal." He answered before rubbing the back of his neck nervously. He cleared his throat before speaking again feeling uncomfortable under her disapproving stare. "I can not thank you enough Miss. Bennet."

Her eyes narrowed at him, she couldn't decipher what his gratitude was for. Upon asking for clarification on his gratitude.

"Is there so much that I have to thank you for?" He asked out loud, smiling as her face lit up with a mischievous glint. Darcy knew a way to wipe off her smirk, "I know I must thank your parents for bearing such a beautiful person into this world. I must thank you for being a ray of sunshine in my otherwise gloomy days as well as saving me from Miss. Bingley's grasp repeatedly."

His words were met by a stunned silence as Elizabeth flushed a deep seldom that invaded every inch of her skin, making Darcy chuckle as he tucked a stray strand behind her ear, his fingers lingering before he hastily realised his actions. He distanced himself from Elizabeth to ease the temptation of touching her again.

"I do not follow you Mr. Darcy." Elizabeth admitted refusing to receive the compliment and think about the implications. A man of his station couldn't marry someone like her, she had little to no dowry to speak of and the large sum that Georgiana would be entitled to couldn't be replaced if they were to marry. She would contend herself with having his friendship whilst she could.

"You deserve my gratitude for being you, just you." He declared before elaborating on his early statement. "The event I was referring to was the support you gave to my sister in my absence. I did not think of the ramifications of my actions, they were purely selfish and I truly deserve what ever punishment Gigi deems fit to issue me with."

Elizabeth watched a little startled at his admission, she couldn't contain her curiosity about why he would forget his duty, "A man of honour, such as yourself would surely feel a heavy burden to forget the duties you have. Pray forget my boldness if it causes you discomfort, but I am compelled to ask what would make you wander for so long?"

Darcy smiled slightly at the thought of her refreshing boldness causing him any discomfort, the small smile made Elizabeth smile coyly whilst she seated herself down by Orion, stroking his head absently.

"Not at all, your concern is comforting for I have seen many people befriend my sister for their own gain." They both thought of one articular person but were polite enough to name her. "It has been a long time she had contact with anyone outside of the family." He admitted quietly as he thought about the reasons why.

"She is a smart, beautiful young woman who is ready to face the Ton, all she needs is your support Mr. Darcy." She announced standing beside him once more relishing in the way his name sounded on her lips.

"I know. She is no longer my little sister, for I am more a father than a brother for me it will be harder then most to let her go." He explained, scowling as a cloud blocked the sun's warmth.

"You cannot be selfish of her wishes, she will leave you to enjoy a life of her own. To marry and have beautiful baby Gigi's you can lavish them with gifts and spoil them like a proud uncle." She spun the words so beautifully that Darcy could imagine the scene that she pictured. His lips twitched at the thought before he felt a pang of loss as he realised that she would experience a family with Edward.

"I must concede that you speak the truth as usual Miss. Bennet." His return to formality made the smile drop from Elizabeth's face and cover her arms as she felt the chill spread across her as the sky darkened more.

"I must return home to help Mama, you would think it was my own wedding the way she carries on." She said before curtseying and turning to leave.

Darcy stood frozen at the news and was unable to speak as she started to walk away, a bark from Orion brought him back to reality as he raced to catch up with her.

"I thought it was you and Edward who were to wed." He called causing her to laugh out loud at the obsurdity of the idea.

"Oh goodness, no. I love Edward as a brother it his Mary that his heart yearns for as does hers." She explained before walking away from Darcy once more as he was rooted to the spot.
