Hey Dudes, I am deeply sorry for the wait you have been forced to endure as well as the pitiful length of this chapter.

I will try and update sooner but I have been non stop busy for the last three weeks, I had promised myself I would make it longer for you but thought that would take too long.

I give you this chapter as an apology for the excessive wait and shall strive to update again in the same month this time.

A Huge THANK YOU to those that read my story and a special THANKS to those who review.

"Lady Catherine!" Mr. Collins declared, before bowing so low that his nose touched the floor.

A clasp of thunder followed her entry as the rain soon followed.

"Anne!" Colonel whispered as he took notice of the small figure of his cousin standing behind her mother wearing a look of disapproval. Catching each others eye they smiled gently the spell broken by Bingley's information that they would have to stay the night.

Darcy was in disbelief, his Aunt had arrived chased by a storm that left him trapped with her and the keeper of his heart until morning. The dominate question on everyone's mind was why the newly arrived woman looked angered for battle.

"Aunt, to what do we owe the pleasure of your company?" Richard asked when it soon became evident that no one else was going to initiate the conversation.

"Can I not visit my family Richard, without any ulterior motives then to see the well-being of my nephews and niece. What a cruel picture you paint of me." Lady Catherine stated, watching the reaction her words would cause.

"I am certain the Colonel would not even insinuate such a thought my lady." Mr. Collins declared as she predicted, she had hired him for he was a naive sport who was unaware of the mockery she subjected him to frequently. However, the repercussion of her entertainment was the often incisive chatter of the male. She had hopes that by sending him to find a wife would relieve some of the obsession he had with herself.

"I assure you Mr. Collins I am quite aware of my nephews meanings." Her sentence was sufficient to silence the man as he tried to comprehend if he had insulted her or any other reason for such an abrupt interruption.

"Lady Catherine, I am sure you are tired from your journey. A room has been prepared for your comfort. You may refresh yourself if that is your desire, or retire for the evening." Caroline spoke up acutely aware of how the great ladies approval would aid her in securing Darcy.

"Miss. Bingley I presume, I must say that your correspondence has been most informative." Lady Catherine commented covering her smirk as the young woman turned a shade of pink under the gaze of her brother.

Her relatives where accustomed to her ways and displayed no other emotion then they would if they describing the weather. Silence reigned once more as Lady Catherine watched as Miss. Bingley suddenly became very quiet and was slowly edging towards the door; when she believed no one was watching her.

The great ladies arrival had caused a disturbance amongst the remaining guests, confusion and amusement circulated them. The storm raged on, howling at the windows screaming with anger at the denial of entry. Thunder echoed through the halls bursting through the doors of the drawing-room where the party had assembled.

Lady Catherine had decided to rest after her journey, Elizabeth had watched closely as the lady turned to her daughter and asked after her health.

"Do you wish to rest too, Anne?' She enquired softly, her face concealing her worry well. "I am sure the journey has taxed you enough, your health may have deteriorated I would suggest you rest for a while."

Her words appeared almost like a command, Elizabeth noticed she covered her concern from public similar to the Darcy's. Anne nodded her head weakly, she was exhausted travelling never agreed with her so she retired upon her mothers request without comment.

Elizabeth returned her attention to the room, Mr. Collins and all the Lucas' but Maria and John had followed the ladies example and had retired in the hastily prepared guest rooms as they were aware from experience how long the storm will last.

Georgiana was in deep conversation with Maria about London fashion, a topic that Elizabeth held both limited knowledge and interest. They sat on one sofa facing the fire that had been lit upon the declaration of the room having a chill. Kitty perched on the edge laughing as John Lucas gestured, in his chair that was positioned so he could face Kitty, whilst retelling his favourite memories with her growing up.

Bingley and Jane sat directly opposite the sofa, absorbed in each other. They remained ignorant of their surroundings even when Richard seated himself beside them. After trying to engage them in conversation he surrendered his futile attempt as he realised he was lost in each conversation, he started thumbing through a book.

Elizabeth had been likewise engaged in a book, until her mind had wondered. Surprisingly she discovered her eyes and thoughts often roamed towards Mr. Darcy who was perched on the bench at the back of the room. He had taken refuge there before Miss. Bingley had returned to her rooms on the pretense of having a headache. Elizabeth was tucked in a chair that allowed her the best light to read her book, as well stealthily watched everyone's interactions.

Discarding her book as she realised it was not diverting her attention as was her intent, she stood up walking passed the Hursts who were conversing quietly together. Her destination was the window, she loved the sight of storms. Ever since she was young she believed that the flash then crash of the storm was God's way of cleansing the bad spirits that hid in the air. Destroying the bad leaving the air pure once more.

"One of natures beauties." Darcy mumbled making Elizabeth jump as she hadn't heard his approach. The gentleman smiled remembering the conversation they had entertained about her being easily spooked. "Once again, my intention was not to alarm you Miss. Elizabeth." She noted he was using her christian name again it made her smile expand upon the knowledge.

"My previous experiences have yet to aid me in your approaches sir. Perhaps if you were to cough or make some noise as you neared the frequency in which you startle me will be considerably less." Elizabeth advised him, still staring out of the window.

"I shall heed your advice madam, once again." Darcy accepted her words without argument. "Do you not believe, Miss. Elizabeth that storms are the purifying of ones sins?" At her audible gasp Darcy looked sharply at her to witness the stunned expression.

After reassuring him she was well, a small smile that warmed Darcy's features spread across his face. His relief was visible and pleased Elizabeth greatly.

"You truly believe that sir?" She asked, barely concealing her excitement. Upon his consent she laughed quietly more so at she notice the embarrassed look on Darcy's face. "Do not fear censor Mr. Darcy, I do not laugh at you. I am simply surprised to find someone with equal viewings of nature as I."

Darcy looked at her for a moment, pleasantly surprised as he stared down upon the face that had captivated him so much in such a short acquaintance. He had once mocked Bingley for declaring he was in love after a knowing a lady just as long. However, to doubt his own feelings was absurd he knew what he felt and would no longer entertain the ludicrous thought that it was a passing fascination.

He watched cementing everyone of her features to his memory as he knew that though his heart was already lost his mind and sense of duty would always win over his own interests. He couldn't afford to be selfish it would affect so many other lives if he did so. Fate seemed to torment him he concluded as he continued to observe her captivated as he noticed her toy with her bottom lip as she saw the spectacular show nature was performing for them.

To be so close to the perfect woman was pure bittersweet torture. He was preparing how best to say goodbye to her, phrase the words just right so she knew he cared for her. Unfortunately, like many times before he couldn't possibly construct such words that would leave such an effect upon her.

He wasnt even sure that she was aware of his regard but how could she not with his blatant flattery. His marked attention would not do well to prevent any expectations from arising. Elizabeth he decided was observant enough to recognise the divide in their classes and not be offended if he doesn't advance with his attentions. Mr. Bennet had already warned him not to trifle with her emotions if he held doubt.

In all honesty he was afraid of rejection and disappointment from Elizabeth. He wasnt certain they shared the same regard for each other, it seemed like she took his words with a pinch of salt. She kept him close yet it felt like she wasn't letting him in emotionally, Elizabeth herself was keeping distance to prevent what Darcy was unsure how protect Elizabeth from.

"Miss. Bennet, you must allow me to inform you how much I have come to appreciate your company as well as how refreshing I find your lack of immediate acceptance of my words." Darcy started to say, captivating the bright eyed woman's attention as he struggled to continue. "I will not fabricate a falsehood were I deny any admiration that I have formed upon you. However..."

"Mr. Darcy, obviously you have no words so let me aid you." Elizabeth whispered, careful not to be overheard by the group. "Society divides us in many ways, it is a fact that shan't be ignored especially as our actions could course such damage to Gigi. I wish it were different but it is not. I believe it would be better if we agree to be civil to each other and nothing more. Our friendship only complicates matters further and I have no wish to torment or tease you sir. Your company has been enlightening and I wish you all the best for the future."

Elizabeth managed to speak her words without releasing a tear. She saw the sky had stopped its tantrum as well as noticing the ground had dried enough to travel, so went to petition for her father to return home. Upon her approach of her parents she spied Jane and Bingley, she couldn't be so selfish as to separate them because she had just done the right thing. Even if she couldn't be with the man that she wished her sister could and Elizabeth was not selfish enough to stand in her sisters way of obtaining such blissful happiness.

Instead she made her excuses and retired for the night, for the sake of her family she tried to smile. Even though it was forced few could look beyond their own happiness to notice, the one that saw it was guarding himself with his mask. He watched with envy at the shared looks between the couples in the room.

Catching the look between Jane and Bingley he couldn't deny the blondes emotions for his friends. He would try to bring her happiness by ensuring those she cared about were happy too. He was contemplating leaving in the morning but was unsure if he should remembering the presence of his recently arrived aunt.

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet had watched the exchange between the two as well as caught the looks of heart-break from both sides. Duty and doing the right thing was important to both of them and Elizabeth's parents watched in dismay as they saw her be unselfish once more.

"That child does wish to tax me, she will never married now." Mrs. Bennet wailed quietly to her husband. Trying hard not to cause a scene as she had no desire to embarrass her children.

"I am sure all will be well, dear." Mr. Bennet tried to reassure, he had never see his Lizzy look so broken. "Lizzy isn't built for sadness she will wed eventually. She just has to find the right man once more."

Mrs. Bennet rolled her eyes at her husband's naivety. "Elizabeth is one to love with all her heart., like you Thomas. Once she gives it away she won't take it back."

Mr. Bennet was saddened by the notion, he had hoped to avoid such pain for his daughter. He had no wish for her to settle for comfort but marry for her own love like he had been able to. Mr. Collins was going to propose to her soon and he hoped he didn't use her heart-break as leverage to gain her hand.

As the night set in, slowly calming after its fit of light the remaining guests of Mr. Bingley each settled into their comfortable beds. Most fell a sleep with ease, a peaceful morning promised to follow the angry moaning of the night. However, those whose minds where occupied with heart-break and worry trying to find a way to fix the problems close the gaps that had formed and protect the bridges from burning before it was too late to repair the damages made.

As the sun rose the breakfast table consisted of Elizabeth, Mr. Collins, Mr. Bennet and a rather sleepy Edward. The two extra people startled Elizabeth and Mr. Bennet, for they were not well known for rising early.

"Good Morning Edward." Elizabeth said cheerfully, raising her voice a little to cause him to flinch at the volume. "To what do we owe the pleasure?"

Mr. Bennet who had chuckled at the antics of his daughters looked at her worriedly before covering his face once more with the newspaper.

"Why should you think I'm here through choice?" Edward responded glaring slightly at the man behind the newspaper. "Uncle said he needed to converse with me some of the settlements so i should meet him this morning otherwise he would forget."

"Being bitter doesn't aid your pursuit Edward, I can be as difficult as I so wish. You are after all marrying one of my precious daughters." Mr. Bennet proclaimed, making the young man grumble in his seat as he stabbed his food with vengeance.

Mr. Collins coughed loudly drawing attention to himself he looked squarely at Edward before returning to his plate.

Elizabeth was left in more confusion as Edward whispered something in her fathers ear for him to look directly at her then glance at Mr. Collins. He rose slowly his age preventing him from moving as quickly as he once had, crossing the table he kissed his favourites cheek before whispering in her ear.

"I'm sorry my child, but the quicker you refuse him the quicker we may rid ourselves from him. Especially with his patroness here, he may return home with her." Elizabeth gave no sign of alarm but nodded gravely at her father, before glaring at their retreating forms.

"I had hoped, madam, to solicit a honour of a private audience with your this morning. It appears God is in my favour for his granted my wish admirably. Believe me, my dear Miss. Elizabeth, that your modesty, so far from doing you a disservice, rather adds to your other perfections. You would have been less amiable in my eyes had there not been this little unwillingness; let me reassure you that I have your confidants in this address. This information aided me in my choice, for I begun to suspect you had no desire to be a clergyman's wife. However, Miss. Bingley reassured me of your love and I have no wish to expand your pain any further my love."

Elizabeth was too stunned to speak, Miss. Bingley was involved he had her confidants? She could not fathom what the man was saying yet she understood this was meant to be a declaration of marriage.

"Mr. Collins I do not know what Miss. Bingley has told you but I must assure you that I have not shared anything. I do not share the same knowledge that you do, I must be honest I am at a lost to your presence this morning." Elizabeth stated, trying to prevent the gentleman from making a bigger fool of himself.

"Lady Catherine de Borough, has cemented into my mind that I must find a wife. Repeatedly she has advised me that the parsonage may grow upon the handling of a woman figure, a wife. My views were directed towards Longbourn instead of many neighbourhood, where I can assure you there are many amiable young women. But the simple fact that after your father has passed onto the next life, I stand to inherit the home in which all my fair cousins currently reside. I could not satisfy myself without resolving to choose a wife from among his daughters, that the loss to them might be as little as possible, when the melancholy event takes place which, however, as I might add may not be for several years. I flatter myself with the regard you obviously are for me, I know I have pained you by the time in which I have neglected sharing myself with you for so long. And now nothing remains but for me to assure you in the most animated language of the violence of my affection. To fortune I am perfectly indifferent, and shall make no demand of that nature of your father, since I am well aware that it could not be complied with. On that head, therefore, I shall be uniformly silent; and you may assure yourself that no ungenerous reproach shall ever pass my lips when we are married."

Elizabeth was startled as he had continued to talk she felt it necessary to stop him endless babble before he became to delusioned by his own words to listen to her answer. She was positive in the denial her father would form at such a union.

"Sir you hasten to forget you have not asked for my hand nor have i given any encouragement to my consent of your application." Once again she tried to talk some reason into the gentleman but as before he ignored her hints and continued with his futile pursuit. Elizabeth stood quickly cutting off the mans monologue once more, mindful of the lustful expression that he eyed her with she took a step away from him and closer towards her escape route.

"Mr. Collins I am speaking plainly when I say I have never anticipated nor encouraged your attention. I believe you are an honourable and I have no desire to make this any longer then necessary. I decline, I will not accept a marriage proposal from you not now not ever."

The look on Mr. Collins face went from startled to confusion then he began to laugh as if she had just told a great joke. "I am not to know learn that women such as yourself often decline the first proposal as a test of the gentleman's devotion. I must say that this will only endure you further to myself."

Elizabeth had been making small steps towards the door as Collins spoke, it was incomprehensible as to how he could not just accept that she would not marry him no was she flattered by the implications that because of her wealth she should be grateful of his attentions.

"Mr. Collins, I would hope that no gentleman is to suffer such treatment from a lady who they have come to care for. I am not if they exist said woman as I have no interest in tormenting you sir just to make you understand that I am denying you." Elizabeth declared before turning around she had just taken the final steps towards her relief from the situation when his words stopped her dead.

"You will accept my pursuit for it is the only one that you shall receive once people learn of your true nature. I have seen your wanton stare upon myself, the lustful glances you have expressed. Such desire is not wanted from a woman in your stature. Do not think I am ignorant of your flirting smiles at Mr. Darcy or any gentleman that happens to come into your vicinity. Your shameless actions towards an engaged man will no doubt prevent any respectable gentlemen from seeking you as a wife. Why I wouldn't even be surprised to discover that you are no longer a maid, your sisters act like common tarts with their scandalous chasing of red coats. There is no doubt in my mind that Miss. Lydia is a maid either."

He was prevented from continuing from the acknowledgement of a sharp pain across his face. To his surprise and her own Elizabeth had struck the man across the face, her face was contorted in rage at the allegations that had been formed. Her rage made her hands shake, she felt no regret but turned and left the room quickly. Keeping her head down she tried to calm herself, the adrenaline pumped in her veins and made her loose control of her emotions. She passed her father and cousin not stopping as they called after her, she did not notice Darcy as she passed them eager to be as far as possible away from that gentleman.

Darcy was worried as he watched the flight of Elizabeth from the breakfast room, his gaze turned to the source of her flight. Her father and cousin stood confused as to her flight, each gazed at one and other before looking into the room she had fled.

To the three gentleman's surprise Mr. Collins sat clutching a cloth to his nose which was pouring with blood, it was apparent he had been struck but Darcy was at a lost as to who had done so.

Mr. Bennet was struggling to contain his laughter at the sight his cousin presented, he obviously had offended his daughter enough for her to strike out. She had not seen fit to do so since before she hit her teens and realised she could out wit her opponents.

"What did you say for Lizzy to strike you so?" Edward wondered aloud, knowing as Mr. Bennet did that she had not done so in years.

The gentleman clutched his nose, trying to preserve the little dignity he had found at the knowledge of being in the presence of Darcy.

"Miss. Elizabeth shall be my wife once she has thought over my words, her ways will not be tolerated by others." He muttered darkly forgetting momentarily to watch what he was saying in front of her relations. "Wanton women, all of them. It shall be a surprise of any of them find a husband."

Collins was once again cut off from saying anything more as he was lifted off his seat and pinned to the wall by no other than Mr. Bennet! The two younger gentlemen looked on in wonder as the silver topped male held the plump figure of the clergyman to the wall, seemingly without effort. His words were cold yet spoken quietly, his face betrayed no emotion whilst Collins was froze in fright. The sudden action had caught him unaware and he was winded upon the impact of the wall against his fatty chest.

"You should take care how you talk of my daughters Mr. Collins. As well as be aware that I heard every word spoken just know, you should be kissing your lucky stars that these two boys did not as you would fare worse. However, you will not return to my home whilst I am still alive. If I even think you are within a ballroom of my children I will have you mutilated into little pieces then served to your patroness. I will have your trunks packed and ready for your departure within the next hour it will be left with some money, for am feeling merciful, to catch the post to Rosings or wherever you wish to go for I believe your patroness will not be pleased with your actions." Mr. Bennet announced to the gentleman he had unceremoniously squished against the wall.

The man nodded hastily eager to be free of the mans hold for it felt like he was going to break his arm. Once freed he rolled his shoulders before creating a bigger mess of himself.

"Elizabeth is to be my wife, society will make her an outcast otherwise. A woman who strikes a respectable man because he refuse to be subjected to her wanton desires, she will be scorned and cut -" he didn't get to finish as he found himself clutching his face once more. This time at the hand of Darcy.

The tall gentleman picked the clergyman up by the scruff of his collar and held him with his feet dangling a few feet off the floor.

"Do you remember my words Collins?" Darcy asked, his infamous mask in place as he tried to prevent the vile mans blood from getting on his expensive clothing, his valet would be displeased with such stains.

"Y-y-yy- yes sir, I would not forget such words that had the grace to fall from your lips." Everyone stared at the suspended man amazed at the incredulous performance. After abusing one mans family he was attempting flattery as an escape.

"Mr. Bennet, if it wouldn't alter your plans I have a sudden desire to spend Collins last hour here with him. To ensure he is safe on his journey." Darcy expressed looking over at the man who had required the assistance of a chair after his show of dominance. Darcy dropped Collins unceremoniously onto the floor were the gentleman sat rubbing his neck gasping for air.

Mr. Bennet nodded tiredly, not caring what happened to the gentleman anymore. "Edward be sure to assist Mr. Darcy in any way possible." His soon to be son-in-law nodded his head at his uncle before aiding the master of Pemeberley with the removal of Collins to a study.

Elizabeth had returned once she had calmed herself to think rationally once more. She was just in time to see the doors of the study shut behind her cousin and the man she longed for. Her father was visible from where she stood and he looked frail and old something she hasn't really associated with him even in his increasing age.

"Papa? Papa, are you well? Should I get Mama or Dr. Jones?" Elizabeth asked her worry making her voice seem panicky. She wouldn't know what to do if she lost her father. He was the one she could rely on to support her or understand her mind when her sisters couldn't. From her earliest memory her father was always present no matter the significance of his appearance he was always there.

"I am well child, just exercising my right as a proud father which has presented itself as a tad more tiring than it would if I was younger." Mr. Bennet smiled, relieved to see his favourite unharmed. "Mr. Collins insists you marry him, my child. He is demanding it."

"You cannot force me to wed him, I will not do so. I am selfish creature, papa, and though I know mama's and the others stability depends upon it I can not bring myself to wed such a man." She was nearly in tears as she finished aware of how her actions could ultimately alter drastically the treatment of her mother upon her fathers passing.

Mrs. Bennet who had risen early in her anxiety of leaving Lydia alone for so long burst into the room, dragging her daughter into a bone crushing hug. " oh Lizzy. Never in all my days of scheming would I ever even consider allowing that...that...that.."

"Toad, dear?" Mr. Bennet supplied helpfully.

"Exactly, that toad to wed any of my beautiful girls. Heaven knows you can all make better matches than him, even you can dear. If you stop going around and clobbering the men in the face, of course." She added, with a smirk on her face.

Mr. Bennet laughed at his wife kissing her on the cheek before pulling out her seat as they dined together. Elizabeth wiped her face of any sign of her distress and shook her head at her mothers words a small smile gracing her lips as she seated herself.

Whilst Darcy and Edward were dealing with one problem, Mr. Bingley was trying resolve the other-Miss. Bingley. She had disappeared before he had a chance to speak to her the night before, according to his staff she was making haste this morning in packing to go where he was yet to be informed.

"Caroline!" He called drawing her attention whilst stopping her actions. "Going somewhere sister?"

She looked startled like an animal caught in a trap that they had tried to avoid so carefully. Her eyes grew wide at the appearance of her brother, she had not anticipated him being awake so early.

"I am leaving brother, I've been invited to stay with some friends in Brighton," she revealed to him, aware of the anger and worry on his face. "I shall write once I am there, then I am shall go and visit Aunt."

Mr. Bingley stood startled at her plan. "Since when have you the desire to see Aunt you have not spoken nor corresponded since father passed."

Miss. Caroline blushed brightly at his statement knowing it were true. "I have abused my aunt abominably I admit. Yet I wish to rekindle the relationship we shared when I was younger, I cherish the memories I have when I used to stay there."

Uncertain about how much she was doing sincerely he was pleased anyway as he disliked the notion of thinking poorly of his sister. "When are you to leave dearest?"

"I have broken my fast in my room this morning." She declared before closing her final trunk. "The carriage shall be ready once my trunk is upon it."

Mr. Bingley was deeply saddened by the short notice he received and had the desire to hug his sister. An action she had not reciprocated in many years.

"I love you. You know that right Caroline." At her nod he wiped away a stray tear. "I will always be here for you. I am pleased at your willingness to change yet I find myself dumbfounded at the reason."

Caroline smiled at him a sad display of a smile before retrieving something from her bedside. A letter. One that had been folded many times, unfolded as well crinkled in numerous places from where she had been holding it.

"It's from father." She whispered softly, gazing at the letter as if it was the most precious thing in the world. "It's what he wrote before he passed, if you remember he wrote us all one."

Mr. Bingley nodded in agreement that his father had done so. The letter he received told Bingley of his father wish that his son become a gentleman and help further the family's legacy. However, out of all five of his sisters, Caroline was the one who refused to look at hers. Although her fathers favourite she was too hurt by his passing to read what he wrote.

"You finally read it." Bingley replied in the same volume, like speaking normally would disrupt the moment.

"Yes I did." She laughed slightly, she had carried the letter with her for over four years and yet only had the sudden desire to open it last night when she felt so alone. "I miss him so much Charles. I am so sorry for the way I have acted."

Once more Bingley drew his sister in for a hug, her walls that she had built to protect herself from the pain she experienced once came crashing down around her.

"Charles I must be on my way, they are expecting me." She said as she straightened out of his embrace and looked over her appearance in the vanity.

Silently, Charles led his sister out of her room, towards the awaiting carriage. Though not before he was handed a letter to give from one sister to the other.

"Louisa needs her rest especially now, she will need all the support towards the end. I shall return for than." Caroline stated cryptically before she was handed into the carriage. Leaving her brother watching after her with the letter clutched in her hands.

As the early morning sunlight turned into the lazier early afternoon glow. The other guests started to emerge from their slumber, each ignorant of the mornings actions. Except Mary who was told by Edward and Lady Catherine who needed to be informed stated Darcy. She was outraged at the behaviour the man had exhibited in her name no less.

"That scoundrel!" She exclaimed, "to even say such things about ones own family is scandalous at best, but to voice them as a proposal and in front of the respected father is pure idiocy. I am ashamed to be even associated with such talk, you know how I despise such incompetence Fitzwilliam. I apologise profusely for my role, I thought it better for the gentleman if he healed the bridge with his family. You know how important having family is, I never thought he would take such lengths." Darcy sat across his aunt still wondering at her appearance, it was a novelty when she travelled and he pondered the honour of such an occasion.

Collins had been stripped of his title and was going to live with a long distance cousin on his mother's side whilst he tried to find employment once more. All his belongings in the parsonage would be given to the those who had less, the rest would be cleaned and prepared for its next resident

"Fitzwilliam, it had come to my attention that your services may no longer be required." Lady Catherine de Borough began, smoothing out her skirts whilst looking straight at her nephew.

"What services would that be?" He asked curious as to the direction of their conversation.

"For you to marry Ann of course!" She revealed a slight laugh to her voice.

"I have never agreed to such a scheme, I see Ann as nothing more than a sister." Darcy declared his tone cold and hard. He was startled at his Aunt's laugh upon his reaction.

"I know, but a woman can dream can she not. I would never have forced you into it, it was more of a precaution just in case you did not wed by a suitable time." She replied, watching as he stood up then turned towards the window. A habit he did when he was younger when he was trying to sort out his mind or emotions.

"It was always seemed more than a wish, almost like a demand." Darcy murmured to his Aunt, refusing to meet her gaze. Lady Catherine tutted at such a statement before stating that perhaps the fault lay in her for not explaining clearly.

"As the years grew on, I thought if you two interacted more than perhaps you would form an attachment. So last year in the hopes of spotting it I watched you all, I saw nothing beyond sibling affection on either side. Expect of course when Richard and Ann looked at each other. It is quite amusing that you were ignorant of it, yet I saw your mind was occupied with Gigi." Lady Catherine explained. Amused at the shocked look upon her nephew at her words.

"Ann and Richard?" He repeated unsure what to say. " they are well suited to one and other."

"Speaking of Gigi, she has gained more confidence than the last time I saw. She is growing into a fine young woman, you may want to keep an eye on her in the season for she will have every compatible male after her. The females won't be much worse for they are two-faced, jealous creatures that could knock her confidence back down." Lady Catherine warned familiar with the workings of the Ton.

"She has transformed more in the last few weeks we have been here then she has anywhere else." Darcy commented with a proud smile, finally turning to face the room once more."However, the honour of such would belong to her new friend Miss. Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters."

Lady Catherine watched with interest at the softening of her nephews hard edge as well as the faint trace of a smile being visible. He was in love, she realised with a smile. Miss. Elizabeth has a lot to live up to if she was to be Darcy's perceived equal.

A knock on the door was followed by the entrance of a petite brunette with sparkling eyes, not a natural beauty Lady Catherine decided quickly. By the look upon Darcy's face as if she was the most precious thing in the world she was able conclude that this was the infamous Miss. Elizabeth.

She blushed as she took notice of the people in the room. Her eyes couldn't help but be drawn to Darcy just to ensure he was well, or so she told herself. She smiled shyly as she realised that he had caught her looking, quickly she squelched the worry before starting to back out of the room.

"My sincere regrets I was unaware this room was occupied." She commented, waiting to reassure Darcy that she wasn't following him. "If you do not mind I will find my book, if it's not too intrusive of course."

"Miss. Elizabeth I presume?" Once the confirmation of her name was made, Lady Catherine's face spread into a knowing smile. "Of course it would be our pleasure to aid in such a search would it not Fitzwilliam? He was just commenting upon the confidence you have brought out in Gigi."

Elizabeth stood stunned for a second before her nature dictated that she be amiable and civil to Darcy' aunt. Her comment about Gigi caused her to blush and divert the compliment.

"Your help will be unrequired, for I can see it from where I stand but thank you anyway. As I have told Mr. Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam repeatedly, Gigi did all the work I meerly took the credit for her making conversation." Elizabeth replied, before picking up her discarded book she had left it there in favour of dining with her father that morning.

Lady Catherine noted the modesty with approval as well as saw the way the young woman's facial features changed slightly at the mention of the Darcy's she cared for them as people. The great woman was tired of witnessing her sisters children become befriended by social climbers whose only interest is purely mercenary.

From what Collins had informed her the Bennets had little in the way of fortune but that was an obstacle easily overcome for Darcy as he had enough money to marry whomever he pleased. The frustrating thing that Lady Catherine saw was the sadness in each of their eyes like they had given up hope.

She was aware it was not her place to interfere but if he did not who would? The letter she receive from Miss. Bingley described the woman as a harlot, a wanton social climber who only cared for Darcy's money. The glanced the two exchanged were that of real love, unless of course Miss. Elizabeth was a fine actress Lady Catherine discarded that account.

She had planned to reside at Netherfield for as long as she was able to verify the information she desired. One was the attachment of her daughter and Richard, if it was not as she suspected then Lady Catherine was finally willing to allow her daughter to attend the Ton next season with Georgiana of course

. She feared her daughter would become an old maid otherwise, her health had prevented such actions before but the improvement over the last few years had encouraged the idea into her mothers mind. The reputation of Lady Catherine was bound to proceed her for her way of raising Ann was a controversial point throughout the Ton.

Elizabeth and Darcy were yet to exchange any words, they seemed adamant to be civil and nothing more an interesting development. She departed the room with the same grace that she entered with, leaving Darcy to stare after her whilst his aunt scrutinised his actions.

"When am I to wish you joy child?" She asked, the look on his face was full of pain at her words.

"Miss. Elizabeth will not accept my suit aunt. She as well as I fear for the precautions of our actions, against Gigi." Darcy replied settling himself in his seat. "It is for the best, it would not have done to have such an unconventional union. I am to travel to London to deal with some affairs, what are your plans aunt?"

The woman sat on her seat absorbing his words carefully, her respect for the woman grew as she was willing to sacrifice her happiness for that of Georgiana's future. Lady Catherine revealed her scheme to remain at Netherfield for the time being until she could decipher any tender feelings between Darcy's cousin. "Plus if I remain then Miss. Bingley would be less likely to follow you and her brother to town leaving Miss. Bennet feeling jolted by her suitor."

Darcy nodded at the wisdom of her plan, revealing that the lack of Georgiana's removal alongside him was because of identical reasoning. "I must also add that I could not bare to make her part with he new friend in fear that her confidence will drop again. You should see it aunt, she is social, offering to play the pianoforte taking the first steps in forming acquaintances her time here has been well spent." He added, a proud smile gracing his face as he described his sisters transformation towards the independent woman he always hoped she would become.

"This place has done you well too Fitzwilliam." Lady Catherine observed to her nephew. "I have never seen you so comfortable amongst such a large party. I do not believe I have seen you smile as much since you were a child, chasing after Richard through the halls of Rosings. "

Her admission made Darcy think, had he really stopped smiling so much? He knew that Georgiana and Richard as well as the rest f his family constantly scorned him for appearing so stern. Even Miss. Elizabeth teased him more than once about his hard armour or the Darcy mask as she had christened it. Darcy had not believed himself to be so aloof amongst people, nor had he took note of his own changes because of the presence of a certain Bennet.

What would he do once he left? Would he return as he once had been? No, that would be an insult to Elizabeth, he would never disgrace her teachings in such a way. He realised he had only altered to appease her, he wondered momentarily if he would have the same motivation once she was removed from his sight? He had no wish to ponder on such a future at the moment, he would cherish the short time he had left before he forced himself into a carriage which would carry him off to London. He still had yet to move from his servaliance of the closed-door.

"Fitzwilliam it appears as though you have a lot on your mind I shall leave you." Lady Catherine arose from her chair elegantly before standing in front of her nephew demanding his full attention. "Remember this, the Ton will be critical of whatever union you make unless you wed all of the daughters of the scheming match making mamas. They will never be appeased no matter your actions. I bestow you this piece of wisdom before I allow you to be lost once more to your thoughts. Your happiness is more important than their opinions. As Shakespeare elegantly put 'let me not the marriage of true minds' you two were created for one and other for your love is not love which alters when its alteration finds. Gigi, will have no wish to be the source of your separation. If anything your union will allow for her to find one of true love not a mercenary pursuit."

With her message being digested by her nephew she patted his shoulder in comfort before she left the room, almost plowing over an unsuspecting Jane who had gone in search of her sister.

She looked deeply apologetic towards the young woman, whom appeared too distracted to notice almost getting knocked over.

"Miss. Bennet, my apologies I was not looking where I was going. Are you alright?" She asked worry seeping into her voice. When the blonde didn't respond her distracted air encouraged Lady Catherine to seek its source for she perceived Jane to be a soft soul who took the troubles of the world upon herself.

Jane looked startled as the words emitted from the great lady that Collins had painted as formidable woman. One who was showing concern for her, it made her cautious to reply. The sincerity of the question was debated internally before her trusting nature got the better of her.

"I do not wish to inflict my troubles upon you Lady Catherine, I will just continue on my way." Jane replied softly, her tone so soothing that Lady Catherine could take no offence st the rejection of her request.

"I do insist that you relieve yourself of such burdens. If it were to bother me to be so informed I wouldnt of had the inclination to ask." The reaction of most would be to trip over themselves to appease her.

Jane's ability to stand her ground without seeming rude made Lady Catherine de Borough respect the reserved blonde. For it was a known fact that she suffered fools poorly, and had proclaimed a detest of such people repeatedly.

Admittedly, she had entertained Collins far too long. However, the entertainment that he provided her with including the extent he was willing to contradict himself repeatedly and change his very moral standing all because of a jest she had made.

"Please Miss. Bennet, you have to have a confident once in a while. I'm positive that revealing your worries to the very sister that burdens you does not allow for a peaceful state of mind." Lady Catherine tried once more, she needed to know the depth of the regard they shared or to see if the lady was as deeply affected as her nephew appeared to be.

"I have numerous sisters Lady Catherine, of which do you speak?" She asked, before smiling at the ladies startled face. "To appease you i shall give you part of the answer you seek. I am in search of Lizzy, we are leaving yet she has not returned from getting her book."

"Miss. Elizabeth left the room only minutes ago, perhaps you missed each other as you came to find her and she returned to you" Lady Catherine, commented.

Jane paused thinking about the plausibility of such a speech before thanking the great lady and turning to return to her family. Upon her arrival she spotted her sister who was smiling at her in greeting.

"We were preparing a search party to allocate you Jane." She teased as her sister approached.

The family said their farewell to the Netherfield party except Darcy who was still pondering his Aunts words in the study were she left him.

As the family returned to Longbourne they were greeted by an angry Lydia, who had suffered through the storm on her own and ws relying upon the return of her family as they had promised her.

"How could you! Leaving me all by myself, what kind of family are you." Lydia screamed at Kitty as she entered their room. "You say you love me yet you abuse me so, I was all alone."

Kitty didnt make no reply for she had tried to explain that travelling home had been made impossible by the amount of rain. Flash floods were a real danger during a storm. Instead she thought about how she danced with Mr. Lucas at the ball and how he had sought her company during their evening and even after they broke fast together.

The lack of reaction that she got from het family worsened the youngest Bennets mood she stomped noisily around the house, seeing no response to her display she hid in her room after rudely evicting Kitty from it first.

The girls upon their return home had taken the chance to refreshed themselves before then following their own pursuits.

Elizabeth, Mary and Edward were seated in the drawing-room conversing on their plans.

"Aunt is expecting us soon and will be most displeased if we prolong our departure anymore. We had considered taking Kitty with us, however, I am reluctant to insist upon her presence with the current attentions that Mr. Lucas is paying her." Elizabeth commented to them, secretly thankful of the chance to clear her head of Darcy.

"Especially considering the length of time it took for him to even start a conversation. It would of taken him longer if Lydia was with her. He has been rebuked so much by her that I think he fears being near her anymore." Edward added, smiling at the notion.

"You have no leg on which to stand, how long did I have to wait before my courtship turned into an engagement? Leave the poor Lucas boy alone." Mary chastised him.

They laughed at Edward before returning to the topic at hand. "How do we tell her this without offending her?" They pondered, unsure if the newly reformed Bennet would assume offence at being left out once more.

However, they nominated Elizabeth to deliver the news as she was capable of wording it without making it appear rude or as if the are jilting her.

It wasn't until Jane arrived in the room that Elizabeth went off to accomplish her task, she was always ensuring that Edward and Mary were properly chaperoned. It was cutting property slim as he still resided in the same home as her after their announcement. Fortunately, that would be soon forgotten as they would soon depart to their aunts.

Kitty was seated under the window of their fathers study, she was lost in her thoughts and didn't hear her sisters immediate was absently twirling a single flower in her hands before sighing deeply and turning to see her sisters arrival.

"That sigh was quite large Kitty, what troubles you so?" Elizabeth asked, seating herself by her sister.

Kitty looked at her unsure if she was ready to disclose what was on her mind, after so many years of keeping her thoughts secret from her companions she was yet to break the habit.

"Jo- Mr. Lucas gave me this." She answered after a few moments of silence.

Elizabeth could not fathom why her sister seemed hesitant to further her explanation of the flower. Her mind jumped from improper thoughts as to try an assert the correct reasoning. Fortunately, before her thoughts could venture any further kitty continued speaking her mind.

"He asked for a courtship." She finally revealed her quiet voice making Elizabeth question the reality of the words. The general expectation for someone who had just entered into a courtship would be joy and an impending desire to get to know their suitors better.

Also the typical response of Kitty getting a suitor before her elder sisters would be ecstatic. However, as Elizabeth was just discovering the expected behaviour of her sister has stimulated from Lydia and not Kitty herself.

"If you have no desire to have a courtship Papa, shan't force your hand Kitty." Elizabeth murmured to her trying to offer some form of support although unsure how. "We do have a choice even if Mama insists we don't."

Shaking her head Kitty looked into her sisters eyes, Searching them for any mockery or scorn. She knew that ideally she should be thrilled at the realisation that Mr. Lucas wanted to enter into a courtship with her and no one else. Yet she couldn't make herself believe that she was ready for it. Admittedly she cared for him and had done so since they were small. Unlike Mary and Edward though her own love story seemed futile in the beginning especially with Lydia in the mix.

"It is not that I have no desire to court him." She began hesitate at first. "You would not believe me if I say how long I wished he would ask for such. I can't help but think on how it's strange that he asked the moment that Lydia was indisposed. What if he is only settling for second best? If Lydia is his true desire but because of Papas new rules he is settling for me?"

Elizabeth sat digesting the information for a split second before trying not to scoff at the absurdity of it all. Slowly, she tried to format a suitable way in which to describe to her sister the glances of John Lucas since their Papa allowed her to attend balls. He would always secure a dance with her be it the supper set or any normal one, yet he showed no such desire with Lydia. His eyes would follow her in any room, he would frown with each flirtatious glance at an officer. Kitty could put a smile on his face when he was sour, refocus his attention whilst he was angry and turn that into something other than fury. In response to Elizabeth's analysis of John Lucas's affection Kitty sat stunned, searching through the information for any lies.

"Do you really believe so?" The sense of vulnerable delight was clear in her speech as she looked at her sister looking for any tell of mistruth. The reality of how fragile her sisters hope was surprised Elizabeth.

She had long suspected her second youngest sibling to obtain strong faith in herself to be able to remain with some piece of mind intact whilst following Lydia's whims. Contrary to that Kitty's esteemed seemed shattered like a broken glass, scattered far and wide, leaving Elizabeth unsure if she could aid Kitty in repairing it. Despite her seeming reluctant to court John, it was apparent that something else captivated Kitty's mind as she stated blankly at the twirling white petal.

"Dearest, I know I haven't been a most faithful confidant but do know that you may speak your mind to me." Elizabeth emphasised to her sister. "Speak your mind and you'll be heard. What ails you so?"

Drawing in a deep breath, Kitty committed herself to easing some of her mental burden. "Am I ready for the prospects of a courtship?" She asked openly, unsure of if she wanted to hear the answer. "What will I do if it progresses and I have no out? The general speculation of a courtship would be to be wed. What if his believes of me are all preconceptions and he doesn't really like me for who I am?"

All the questions were from an insecure young woman who feared the social entrapment that had become of marriage. Once more it took Elizabeth a few moments to collect her thoughts and conclude her internal debate on if she should reveal some of her own personal fears.

"You may or may not be aware of mine and Janes vow to ourselves. It is to only marry for the deepest love. As gentleman's daughters we are allowed the luxury of choosing the man we are to tie are life to. Not all are so fortunate to have the same prospects we do." Elizabeth stated, pausing to give her sister time to register the information. "That is not to imply that we have a range of choices, but we can afford to wed for only the deepest of love. However, we must be aware that even our hearts can't be answered be it a segregation of class or country. We should find that one person we are content to be with. From friendship can stem love in an ideal marriage. A courtship is no binding agreement dearest its an acknowledgement of interests to get to know your suitor better to see if you are compatible. Yet the system is not perfect, your heart may long for someone it can not have. Pride, prejudice and duty can all affect the lives around us as well as our own. Our position allows us more choice then that of others, in the end we can afford to allow our hearts their choice. Think on the past as it gives you pleasure and only look towards the future when necessary, live in the moment."

Kitty captivated by her sisters words was silent for a minute as she tried to comprehend the meanings behind them. She was aware that her sister and revealed some of her own feelings with being aware of doing so. Kitty sympathised with her sisters plight, she had thought the couple were perfect for each other. Aware that it was not her place to comment on the choice of her sister she decided to pull her into a tight hug to convey her comfort without embarrassing them both by wording it.

"Thank you." She whispered as they pulled apart, accepting the comfort whilst taking a moment to compose herself. They both had much to thing on, Elizabeth especially for she had previously considered herself indifferent to her choices. However, her recent outburst were proof of the fact she was lying to herself.

Time was of the essence as they had planned to leave before lunch to make good time on the road and arrive at Cheapside for supper. None of this would be possible unless they left now, Elizabeth made good on her promise to her cousin and raised the option of remaining at home to allow Mr. Lucas to court her. She also reiterated that it was internally her sisters choice.

"I will follow your words and see where this courtship takes us." Kitty admitted shyly, her doubts had been quieted by her sister enough for her to feel confident in her choice.

Together they stood, as they returned to the house inform their cousin of the alterations as well as say they goodbyes for Elizabeth and Edward would be leaving soon. Soon after Mary would follow them with their mother in search of her wedding trousseau, Elizabeth would then go with her aunt and uncle on their trip to the lakes after the wedding as it had been previously planned.

Mr. Bennet unknowingly listened to his children's conversation whilst trying to allow some fresh air into his stuffy study. He sunk slowly into his window seat as he understood his daughters words. He couldnt help but feel responsible to the recent actions of his daughter, for if he had managed the estate betted his daughters would have had better dowrys and not face the social divide that they do.

He had anticipated Mr. Darcy breaking any understanding between them, never had he thought his daughter would be as effected by the divide as she was and let it prevent her from her desires. She had been only seven when she had revealed her vow to her father, he stared absently out the window as he reminisced.

Elizabeth was hiding from her mother once more, for she had damaged her new gown by climbing the big oak that stood in the garden watching over the house. She had lost her footing and although not physically hurt she had fallen in mud due to the rain that had started to fall.

She was curled up in her favourite chair beside the fire, wrapped tightly in blankets as her teeth chattered disrupting the silence in the room. Mr. Bennet had been returning from the tenants,he had scooped little Elizabeth up in his arms and seated her in his lap as sat in the seat she had been curled up in.

"Now Lizbee, what have you been up to." He asked , as he heard his wife raptures upon his entrance. She prevailed upon him to do something to correct his daughters ways, his wife worried that Elizabeth would never marry if she continued to be as she was. Mr. Bennet had replied that the child was only seven and had plenty of time before she started thinking of such things.

"Is Mama angry?" She asked quietly as she snuggled closer to her father absorbing his warmth. "I did not mean to tear my new gown. I was just trying to see how high up I could get up the tree. Edward said you can see all the way to Town from the top."

Mr. Bennet chuckled he should have guessed that his nephew would be involved in this. Yet he knew that even Lizzy wouldn't climb a tree in her new dress just because of that.

"Is that so Lizbee, I would have thought you had more sense to climb the tree." He chastised quietly, he felt her fidget in his hold whilst he spoke.

"Edward said something else but I do not thing it true." She whispered, staring at her folded hands.

"Less truth then seeing Town from the top of the tree?" Mr. Bennet questioned. "Pray tell, what could hold less truth then that."

"He said when I am older I will be married to a strange man that I may have no affection for at all." She said reluctantly not wishing to voice her worries. She turned to look her father in the eye as he was hesitate to reply. "Papa?"

Slowly he stroked his chin feeling the beginnings of a beard, sighing deeply he thought how best to phrase it in a way that wouldn't upset her. It was not something he desired for any of his daughters but he had to make sure that they were also aware of the possibility of such a future.

"I shall not lie to you little one. There may come a time when a man you do not love may ask for your hand he may have wealth behind him this may entice you to accept. No one will think less of you for accepting such a proposal. There are many reasons why people marry not all are for love." Mr. Bennet explained watching his daughters reaction carefully.

"I shall not marry for the deepest love. No matter how many carriages he has or the amount of dresses he can give me." She stated stubbornly crossing her arms protectingly over her chest whilst her jaw was set showing Mr. Bennet that he wouldnt be able to change her decision even if he wanted to.

"I wouldn't have it any other way Lizbee." Mr. Bennet replied, chuckling quietly as he reached for a novel they had started reading together.

They had been seated in the same seat he occupied now, he was brought out of his thoughts by a knock at the door.

"Enter." He called, he stood up greeting his wife with a kiss upon the cheek. "What can I do for you my dear?"

Mrs. Bennet had wanted to notify her husband of the departure of Elizabeth and Edward knowing that he would want to say goodbye. Together they saw their second child safety into the carriage that would take her to town, they would both miss her even if they showed it different yet peculiar ways.

Whilst Elizabeth settled in for a long journey, her travel companion made futile small talk. After eliciting only one syllable responses from his cousin, Edward decided to rest leaving Elizabeth to her thoughts.

The subject of such distracting thoughts, had made haste to Longbourne upon pondering his aunts words. He wasn't prepared to allow the Ton to rule his heart, especially as he had never let himself be subjected to its rules before.

Under the pretense of going to visit Mr. Bennet, Darcy mounted Hermes and rode to Longbourne. He was disappointed when he did not encounter Elizabeth as he slowed to a trot. His hopes were once more dashed as he was greeted by the Bennet ladies and noticed Elizabeth, Lydia and Edward were all missing.

However, before he could ask about such absences he was granted entry once more into the study of the formidable Mr. Bennet.

"Close the door behind you son." He commanded as the tall gentleman crossed the threshold.
