Chapter 20 A Dark surprise

I gasped as I fell onto my back, ice beneath me. I stared up into thoughts merciless eyes, tears prickled in my eyes, I was scared, I didn't want to die...not by his blade...

He brought his blade up to the sky, the sun casting a shadow of him over me. Then he brought the sword down...

"AHHH!" I shot upright screaming in horror. I couldn't see well still I remembered that and called Toothless over to me.

I felt his breath on my body and it calmed me slightly. Toothless cooed warily. "I-I'm alright toothless...j-just a nightmare...I-I'm alright, I'm not going anywhere, I promise." I said stroking his nose. I get up and look into the mirror.

"Mor ki samo." I said into the mirror. with that spell said my vision cleared and my sight restored. this would only be for a few hours before the spell would ware off again.

I silently combed my hair...as I did this I remembered something from my childhood...

My mother sat and combed my hair as I looked into the mirror, she hummed a song while she's do my hair.

"Momma?" I asked.

"Hum?" She replied.

"W-what's the song your singing?" I asked.

"It is called daylight's end." She said.

"C-Can you sing it for me?" I asked still keeping my eyes looked at my reflection.

She stopped combing my hair for a moment before starting the song.

"Ask not the sun... why, she sets...why she shrouds her light... away...or why she hides her glowing gaze...when night turns crimson gold to grey... for silent falls guiltily sun...as day to dark does turn...one simple truth she dare not speck...her light can only blind and burn...no mercy for... the guilty... bring down their lying sun...blood so silver black by night...upon their faces pale white..."

She stopped a moment which sent a chill down my spine...

"Cruel moon, bring the end...the dawn will never rise again..."

"Momma?" I asked again.

"Yes my dear?" She asked as she braded my hair.

"Why...why dose Máni want the dawn to ever rise again, at the end of the song?" I asked.

"Because she is mad at Sól for the fact all of us living creatures bath in her sunlight rather than her precise moonlight." My mother said finishing my braid.

She kissed my forehead and left my room, leaving me in silence.

I finished my braid as I finished the song. Toothless purred and gave me a confused look. Toothless...A very nightmare himself, born with the gifts from the gods and goddess, the unholy offspring of lighting and death. Clocked in the blackness of night and the power to destroy. He was a demi god in a matter of specking. The offspring of Thor, Loki, Hel, Máni and Fenrir. I stroked his scales. The words escaped my mouth like I had been controlled. "The moon will rise and the night will last forever."

Toothless whimpered and backed away from me. I noticed it and looked up at him. "Toothless?" I asked.

When toothless' eyes met mine I was met to a surprise. There was a moon glowing atop of his head.

"Toothless?" I asked again.

Armor started to surround his body, spasificly his legs and head, a crest with a crescent moon appeared on his chest.

He stood broadly and bowed. W-was this my fault?

I stroked his nose and smiled slightly, he really was a demi god in a way...w-was his kind used in battle? Just like the song foretold?

I shook my head. I touched the moon and the armor disappeared.

"Well Toothless, you're not just any ordinary dragon, you're a demi god...an offspring of the goddess Máni."

Toothless' ears flattened and shook his head in fear.

"You're fine Toothless, you may be able to help Hiccup with this power." I said.

Toothless snorted before gesturing to his back. I smiled and hoped onto his back as we took to the twilight sky, the night just being swallowed up by the sunrise. The sky was just so exotic, I could barley take it all in at once.

Once the sun had chased away the darkness we landed in front of the great hall. I pushed the door open and both Toothless and I entered the hall. I grabbed some food and sat down at the table. Toothless laying down by my side.

I stirred my potage and frowned. Hiccup...why did you sacrifice yourself? why did you leave me all alone...why did you have to die? Tears prickled at my eyes. I quickly whipped them away with the back of my arm. No...I will not cry, I am not a cowered! I stuffed a spoon fully of hot portage into my mouth and I recoiled spiting it out. Hot very, very hot! I sighed. What has become of my dearest Hiccup?

I ate in silence... the memories of him filling the empty hall. I should have stopped him, I could have saved him from becoming...no...I couldn't have stopped him...he would have gone anyways. After I had finished I put my dish away and left the hall with Toothless in tow.

I walk to the cove, and sit agents a rock. I remember coming here for the first time...I remember first meeting toothless here...my first kiss... all the lessons Hiccup taught to us here.

I lay still with my eyes shut, the cool autumn wind blew calmly around me, the sun shining down on my face. The smell of autumn was pleasant. I opened my eyes the sun shining through the leaves. Leaves blew off in the wind. I pushed to my feet and sighed dusting myself off.

I sighed as I watched the birds fly away. Winter is coming early...and with it a powerful storm. I turned and walked through the woods heading back to the village. My spell is running out of time. I knew that was the case because the world started to blur. By the time I got to the village my spell had completely worn off. I walked to the arena with the help of Toothless. Even without my sight I knew what happened that day he tried to show his father the truth.. I made a fist. His father's foolish actions nearly got my lover killed because of it! I breathed a sigh. I pushed the thought away from my mind. I turned my back on the arena and walked across town to the forge. Busy...as normal. I walked through the door.

"We'll hello there lass... haven't seen you around much." I heard Gobber say.

"Hello Gobber, c-can i go into hiccup's back room?" I asked.

No response.

"I know you miss him Gobber, so do I there are thoughts of us that can never go on with our lives without him, I won't mess anything up, I promise, I just want to feel a part of him that he's still working away on new tail designs and crazy contraptions." I said to him."

A sigh. "Alright lass you can look and if you touch something put it back the way you found it." Gobber said.

I nodded and entered the room. I found a spare mirror that Hiccup kept in the room.

"Mor ki samo." I said into the mirror. Once again my vision restored my breath caught in my throat. Memories flash before my eyes. "Hiccup!" I gasp before everything flashes before I find myself fall inside the black.

I gasp and sit up right.

"Take it easy Astrid you blacked out earlier."

"Ruffnut?" I asked.

"Yeah it's me, just take it easy your strength isn't fully back yet." She said.

I laid back down on my bed. "What happened to me?" I asked.

"Were not entirely sure, Gobber said he heard you scream out Hiccup's name and when he came in you where on the ground screaming out some random gibberish."

I closed my eyes. "D-did something happen do me other than that?" I asked.

"Not that I'm aware of." She said.

I sighed, what happened to make me have an overload?

"I'll let you have some rest valka and Stoick are downstairs I'll let them know your okay, get some rest okay Astrid." She said before leaving.

She's not as stupid as you think she is, without Tuffnut around she's not all that bad. I sighed again before rolling onto my side . Suddenly pain shot through my hand. I brought it out in front of me and what I saw terrified me. I may be working for the gods to fix balance but know I was in big trouble...I know bared the strike class symbol, my normal symbol being sharp/tracker class. I don't know why my mark changed but I know that this is a bad sign, this war was only just beginning!
