It was a matter of minutes before Zonic decelerated and skidded to a halt in front of the HQ. Nicky who was holding Emi didn't slow down immediately and skidded right in front of the entrance with his nose barely touching the building. He sighed in relief and the door opened automatically like a pair of curtains.
"Oooh, future," Nicky remarked however, he felt a burning sensation on his chest. He looked down to see a petrified Emi digging her fingers into his tan chest in fear. Her eyes looked like they were going to pop out. "Er, Earth to Emi?" Emi snapped out of trance and growled at Nicky. She jumped out of his arms and put her hands on her hips.
"If you haven't stopped a even a nanosecond later, we could've been SQUASHED!" she yelled. Shadow who was holding Silver's wrist stopped by Zonic. Silver hobbled away from Shadow and gripped his front quills.
"Chotto ii?" Silver murmured but collapsed on floor in dizziness before even hearing a reply.
"I'm not picking him up again, he's heavy." Shadow retorted. Zonic resisted the urge to face-palm himself at the immaturity between the hedgehogs.
Zonic bent down and picked up one of Silver's arm putting it over his shoulder and heaved the teen up. What was Shadow talking about? Silver was as light as a feather, in Zonic's opinion.
"But we're not squashed are we Emi? Look, we're perfectly intact!" Nicky argued back.
"But what if-"
"If, Emi, if. No need to dwell in the past."
"Still what-"
"Emi, we've been through worse situations than this,"
"I know but-"
"Emi..." Nicky leaned towards Emi's face "Ssh!"
"Shall we go inside now?" Zonic interrupted. He had a tired expression on and he really wanted to have a small break and maybe have a bite to eat.
"Yeah, that's if Nicky and Emi would shut up." Shadow walked along with Zonic inside the building. Emi ran towards the duo and the unconscious Silver who had spirals in his eyes and was being supported by the tallest hedgehog of the five.
"What? That's downright rude!" Nicky sent death glares towards Shadow.
"Uzai!" Shadow didn't say that. Nor did Emi and Silver was still knocked out cold. All eyes stared at Zonic who had his eyes closed the whole time.
He opened his eyes and the three hedgehogs visibly shivered a bit at the dark aura they were sensing from the Zonecop.
"What are you looking at? I'm tired, I'm hungry and I gotta carry this hedgehog and I can't stand you lot bickering at one another! Yes I can understand your language, we work internationally." Zonic spoke with his teeth gritting every time. He faced away and walked on towards the reception.
"Kusomajime..." Nicky whispered to himself and whistled innocently as he followed Zonic's lead. 'I thought Sonic said that this Zonic guy here would be kind of cool. Maybe he's in a bad mood,' Nicky thought to himself. He felt his stomach rise a bit 'Why do I have a feeling that...' he instantly looked at Emi and caught that she has been staring at him. She blushed and faced away making Nicky smirk cockily. 'Okay, I see...heh...'
"Zonic, signed in" a female computer voice echoed in the area as Zonic tapped a few times on the sheet of glass that had 5D holograms on it. A small beep was heard and then the sound of a whoosh. Everyone turned to see a hovering lift descending on the side of the reception counter they were in front of. The lift opened to reveal a fox with two tails in a lab coat.
"Zonic, you're back! And you brought out prime counterparts." he spoke with a hint of professionalism.
"Yeah. Zails, could you take them with you for a while. I'm gonna freshen up." Zails nodded and walked with a fast pace by Shadow and Zonic. Zails was slightly taller than Emi even though he was a year younger. Zails studies Silver's unconscious face for a moment before giving a hard slap on his cheek.
Consequently, Silver woke up with a yelp and rubbed his cheek.
"Hey!" Silver realised his arm was hooked around Zonic's neck and quickly untangled it. "How long was I out?"
"Not very long," Zonic replied before dashing off leaving a blue blur.
"Sorry for slapping you but it was only to wake you up. Nothing personal." Zails stated. He gestured the four hedgehogs to follow him as he walked along. Their shoes made sound as they walked along the hard floor. Sounds of whirring and machines were heard. Voices of other Zonecops they walked past or in offices echoed in the hedgehogs' ears. Most of the Zonecops were speaking English but some of them were speaking foreign languages. When Emi looked on her left, she spotted someone.
"That must be Blaze's counterpart!" Emi squealed. Zails chuckled and nodded.
"And quite a fighter she is too." They all entered a room that was labelled as 'laboratory'.
"Our second trip to the laboratory today," Silver snorted.
"Lets hope there's no Egg to fry heh," Nicky nudged at Silver and they both snickered. Zails' eyes flashed with curiosity at them. 'Egg? Maybe he means Eggman in their worlds.' he mused to himself.
Zails pressed a button on his watch and the laboratory instantly lit up with blinding white and cyan colours. They all squinted their eyes at the blinding light before their vision was adjusted towards the environment.
"Welcome Zails Prower" a computer voice was played in the room. The laboratory was full of advanced machines, technology, slabs of thin glass that had a 'Z' logo as a screensaver and on one side of the room was chemicals and equipment.
"I'm in love with this place," Emi was gob smacked at the sight of futuristic objects and atmosphere. She looked around and her excited jade eyes scanned every nook and corner of the laboratory. She looked like a giddy little girl in front of a toy shop.
"Too bad, this place is mine." Zails winked and set up one of the glass tablets. He began typing away on the glowing keyboard that was hovering in front of him.
"Year 3014? No wonder..." Shadow glanced at the date that was shown on the corner of the tablet.
"What are you doing anyway?" Silver asked and floated towards Zails with his telekinesis. Zails stopped typing for a moment to look at Silver and replied:
"I'm getting the location for the chaos emerald and sending it to one of our hovercraft which you guys will need to be on in order to search for the jewel itself. That way it's easier and safer."
"Safer? That's no fun." Nicky pouted.
"I pretty sure you guys haven't come here for fun." Zails frowned. Emi, Shadow and Silver narrowed their eyes at Nicky who was grinning nervously.
"Nah, we haven't." Emi filled in.
A gush of wind was suddenly blown in the wind revealing Zonic at the doorway. However, he was just wearing a belt and his gloves and boots. He had a water bottle in his hand and took a quick sip. He looked exactly like Nicky and Sonic but only taller and somewhat slimmer and darker.
"Zonic? How come you're out of your suit? I thought you were going to go get the emerald with them now." Zails raised his brow. Zonic's eyes glinted and his brow was furrowed.
"Scourge has been located around that area." Zonic growled. He zipped towards the glass tablet Zails was using and used his thumb and finger to scroll around documents and pages until he reached the GPS. "The chaos emerald is gone. I suspect that 'Green' took it with him. Look," he scrolled down the pages to reveal a graph "The gravitational potential force has twisted at that time meaning that Scourge must've jumped into this dimension through his world's emeralds. After all, how else is he able to get here."
"Wait, so my anti has taken away the emerald that belongs to us?" Nicky pointed his thumb at himself "How did...what...why would he?" he snarled. Nicky hated it when he got beaten towards something.
"More power perhaps," Zails muttered.
"Shouldn't we go after him?" Emi questioned.
"We've already sent in Zhadow and Zespio to the anti world to see if they could retrieve the emerald back and maybe find out how the hell Scourge got the info about the chaos emeralds here." Zonic tossed the bottle in his hand back and forth.
"Then what are we suppose to do now?" Silver stopped floating.
"You guys are gonna have to stay here while I look for the location of the second emerald in our world." Zails tapped away on a much larger tablet . Nicky groaned at him and crossed his arms.
"Just when we were about to get our hands on the fourth emerald, 'Snot' had to come and ruin everything." Nicky paced back and forth. Emi wanted to go and comfort Nicky but then decided against it. She felt a sudden pain on the side of her forehead and touched it gently only to feel the pain get more tender.
'It must be a bruise. I must have got it when I chased Nicky in Eggman's base.' Emi glared to herself slightly 'And he still hasn't APOLOGIZED to me! I mean, all he has to do it take me on a date and then propose to me and then kiss me and then...' Emi snapped out of her daze from an unfamiliar voice.
"Zonic? There you are! I was looking all over for you." a tall pink and slim hedgehog stepped into the laboratory. She wasn't smiling nor frowning- only a straight face.
"Zamy, what's wrong?" Zonic stopped tossing the bottle in the air. Nicky, Emi and Shadow and Silver stared at Zamy like she was some foreign alien. She ignored their looks for now and responded:
"You didn't go with Zhadow and Zespio to go and get Scourge. Usually, you're always the one who wants to get him jailed. I thought you're not feeling well." Zamy had one hand on her hip. She was wearing a plain white tank top and black shorts along with a pair of trainers. She had her short quills tied into a ponytail.
"Someone has to look after these four..." Zonic pointed to the four hedgehogs "...and trust me they can be a pain in the..."
"Hey!" Silver warned "I didn't do anything."
"Oh...my...gosh..." Emi gaped at Zamy who finally acknowledged her. Zamy gave a small smile and stepped back a little. "You're me...?" Emi took a step forward.
"Er, yeah?" Zamy hesitantly answered. Before she knew it, Emi glomped her Zonecop counterpart with a squeal.
"Ohmygosh! I just can't believe it! You're so pretty and tall! Am I gonna be like that when I'm older? Do I have fanboys? Are you and Zonic dating?" Zamy jumped out of Emi's grip with a blush on her face. She looked at Zonic to see his face consisting a small red a hue.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to disturb you. I just got excited you know...eheh..." Emi hand her hands clasped behind her and rocked on her heels. Her eyes had a sad look on it.
'She's so cute!' Zamy thought to herself. Surprisingly, she picked Emi up and hugged her tightly.
"No worries! I love hugs but you're just unbearably cute!" Zamy giggled as well as Emi. Zonic face palmed himself while Zails was oblivious to the whole scene.
"All Amys...just the same..." Zonic groaned. He peered through his fingers to see Zamy glaring at him. "Okay, maybe you're an exception." Zamy flashed a grin and ruffled with Emi's bangs.
"You remind me of me when I was twelve." Zamy cooed then made way to the Triple S.
She put her hands on her hips and raised her brow. She bent down slightly to meet them eye to eye. She maybe a head shorter than Zonic but at least she was a couple inches taller than Nicky and his friends.
"I don't remember you being that short Zonic." she spoke in a monotone.
"Short? I'm not short. I'm alright for my age." Nicky shot back.
"How old are you guys?" Zamy cocked her head to the side. Silver gladly answered her question:
"I'm fourteen, Nicky's fifteen, Emi's twelve and Shadow's a hundred!" the last answer provoked Shadow to bop Silver's head leaving a temporary bump on it.
"Shaddup!" Shadow growled. "I'm the Ultimate Life Form. I-don't-age."
"Koitsu..." Silver whimpered.
"So is Zhadow and he's growing. He's the same height as Zonic." Zamy wondered. She stood up to her normal height "Anyway, I wanna take Chibi me here with me and show her around!" she took Emi's hand and was about to walk out with a giddy expression however...
"Wait! Stop! You're leaving me- with them!" Zonic pointed at Nicky, Shadow and Silver who were all pumping with irritation. "I really need this break Zamy, come on." Zamy rolled her eyes.
"Just let them run around this area." she simply replied. Nicky's ears perked up and his frown flipped into a smile. Zonic was about to protest but was interrupted by Nicky.
"Is there a field out here?" Zonic nodded.
"There's one by the HQ and it's the one I usually run around in...but I'm not letting you run around like that!"
"Whut? Why not? I'm just gonna run."
"I don't want you guys to be seen by spies and enemies."
"Oh, so you are worried about us after all."
"Nicky, just shut up."
"No." Nicky stated.
"Excuse me?"
"Not unless I get to run around in that field."
"Don't even try and sway me,"
"I don't need to."
"I can just go myself-" Nicky made a mad dash to the doorway but since Zonic was as fast (or even faster than) Nicky, using his quick reflexes; he grabbed one of Nicky's ears making him yelp in pain.
"Not the ears...NOT THE EARS!" Nicky whimpered while Zonic smirked at his suffering.
"I'll let go if you shut up and stay put." he spoke in the lowest yet sinister voice he could ever muster "Now do you understand?" He gripped Nicky's ear harder. Nicky let an embarrassing squeak and nodded. He had chibi tears pricking on his eyes. Zonic let go of Nicky's ear and let the cyan teen slump on the floor with an 'oof'.
"I should do that more often," Shadow flashed a toothy smirk. Nicky didn't bother to scowl at his rival but just rubbed his ear.
"You poor thing!" Zamy gasped and then glared at Zonic who didn't flinch at her sudden change of expression. "How could you do that you insensitive hog! Here you act all professional and badass and hardcore but you're really just an immature child abuser!" Zonic scoffed at her rantings.
"Child abuser eh?" he made his way towards Zamy but she didn't pay no attention to that as her eyes were closed.
"Yes, child abuser!"
"He's only fifteen..."
"So what. He's still a child."
"You're fifteen."
"I...ehhhh!" she opened her eyes and realised how close hers and Zonic's face was. He let out a small 'heh' and flicked her nose. "Hey!"
"I'm the boss, you have no rights to question me or my antics Missy," Zamy's ears drooped down in submission and let out a nervous laugh as she backed away slightly. Zonic's smirk was replaced with a genuine smile. He took a step forward and whispered in her ear: "But that's what makes you different anyway." Zamy's eyes widened.
"Nicky...what are you doing?" Silver broke the trance in a singsong voice. Zonic's head and quills whipped to one side to see Nicky on his stomach trying to wriggle away silently.
"Temae!" Nicky growled at Silver before dashing off out of the door. Zonic blinked and then yelled:
"You little sneak! Wait till I tear your ear out!" Zonic zoomed out of the door hot on Nicky's trail leaving the others in dust. One second turned into ten. Ten seconds turned to thirty. Thirty seconds turned into one minute.
"Do ya think Nicky will be able to keep his ears on?" Silver faced Emi and Shadow.
"Maa ne..." Shadow replied feeling a drop of pity for his Faker for the first time ever.
"Come on Emi! I'll show you around and I'm pretty sure Nicky will be just fine..." Zamy grabbed Emi and led her away out of Zails' door.
(Out in the fields)
"Get back here this instance you imbecile!" Zonic roared as he chased Nicky around tainting the ground with his footsteps. If you were to look at them now, you'd only see two blue blurs chasing each other around like a cat and mouse.
"Relax will ya? There's no one out here!" Nicky yelled back and faked a grin on his face to hide the terror that's leaping in the pit of his stomach. His emerald eyes scanned the fields for particular objects. Suddenly, in front of him was his goal.
'Bingo!' Nicky thought to himself. He was about to accelerate and grab a bunch of these objects however...
"Got ya!" Zonic now had Nicky's tail in his grip and pulled him to a stop.
"Ow ow! Lemme go! Onegai!" Nicky dug his fingers into the grass leaving claw marks on them as Zonic tried to drag him off. "I just need a bunch of flowers!"
Zonic immediately let go of Nicky's sore tail and let the poor hedgehog land with a thud. Zonic had a confused look plastered on his face. What the heck does this boy need flowers for? Last time he checked, none of his counterparts were desperate for flowers.
"What! Why? I thought you just wanted to go on a run?" Zonic questioned. Nicky sat up and rubbed his tail then glared at Zonic who didn't bother to give him an apology.
"Yeah and I wanted to get some flowers too." Nicky began to pick some of the flowers up. They were a couple of daisies and daffodils. Not much of a variety but it's due to the cold season that very less flowers grow.
"What for? Or to be precise, who for?" Zonic gave a small smirk.
"Obviously for Zamy." Nicky answered sarcastically. Unfortunately, Zonic didn't realise the sarcasm in Nicky's voice and he gritted his teeth. He moved in front of Nicky with an unamused face and raised brow. "Hey, do you mind?" Nicky pouted but stopped talking at Zonic's deadly look.
"For Zamy...you've only met her and you're already picking flowers for her!" Nicky stumbled backwards.
"Jeez! Calm down man! Didn't hear the sarcasm in my voice? Why the heck would I pick flowers for your girl?"
Zonic's demonic aura disappeared and replied with an 'oh' but then added:
"Wait, she's not my girl..."
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say."
"Anyway," Zonic crossed his arms behind his head and kept one eye open. "Are those flowers for Emi then?"
"You realise that now?"
"Were you that desperate to pick flowers for her?"
Nicky stood up and narrowed his eyes.
"No! Heck no! I did want to go on a run but then I saw the flowers here and thought I could make it up to Emi by giving her some. Can't you just give a guy a break?"
Rustle, rustle!
A disturbance in the trees caused both Zonic and Nicky's ears to straighten up in alert mode. Zonic's spines upturned slightly making his quills sharper. He snarled and spin dashed on the leaves of the tree by them. Nicky gawked in confusion but then it was replaced with awe as he saw a figure fall out of the tree wearing black camouflaging clothes. It rubbed it's head but before it could run off, Zonic jumped out of the tree and landed in front of the figure. He got out his gun from his belt and shot the figure on it's leg bringing it down. He pressed on his watch and immediately, a white hedgehog and purple cat ran out of the building into the fields where the figure was.
"Zlaze, Zilver," Zonic spoke in a tone of high authority.
"Yes sir!" the duo replied.
"Take this guy away, he or she is a spy from the opposing company."
"The one who handles black money?" Zilver asked.
"Yep," Zonic replied ignoring the figure's moan in agony gripping it's leg. Zilver used his telekinetic abilities to levitate the figure and Zlaze roughly handcuffed it.
They both took another route to the HQ with the pained figure floating behind them thanks to Zilver's power.
"..." Nicky's lips were glued shut. That was pretty fast; how could he have not noticed that spy up in the trees. He was picking flowers underneath it's nose for crying out loud.
"If that spy got away, the opposing party would've revealed that you and the others are here and will use you guys as an advantage to get through this HQ's secret as well as find our weaknesses." Zonic spoke.
"If you told me you wanted to get flowers for Emi, then I would've got Zamy to lead you to our greenhouse." Nicky scratched the back of his quills.
"I told you, I just thought about picking flowers for Emi just now."
"Whatever makes you happy, follow me." Zonic zipped away with Nicky following suite.
(With Emi and Zamy)
"This is your room!" Emi gasped at the majestic sight of her counterpart's room. "Chou~" Emi squealed at dropped herself on Emi's bed. Her room consisted similar technology as Zails' laboratory like the thin glass tablets and very modern styled walls and carpet. To sum it up, the room was indescribable and one of Emi's new dream room.
"You like it?" Zamy giggled. Emi sat up abruptly.
"Like it? I love it! Its just so amazing. The colour scheme's just like my room; red and white with hints of gold and pink...and..." Emi turned her head to see a photo on the top of Zamy's drawer.
"Eto...is that you and Zonic...when you were kids?"
The photograph was of a very cheery and small pink hedgehog hugging a taller blue hedgehog who didn't have any emotions on his face. However, the pink hedgehog was in a wheelchair.
"I was four and he was seven. That was back at the orphanage when we were kids. Back then, Zonic was too stubborn to smile forget laughing." Zamy smiled warmly and stroked the picture gently like how a mother would caress their newborn child.
"You were in a wheelchair, what happened to you?" Zamy's smile was replaced with a frown.
"Oh, I was born without the ability to walk or even stand on my legs."
"Then how are you..."
"The chaos emeralds...well...the emeralds that used to exist in this world. Well, Zonic managed to unintentionally harness its powers at around that time period..." she pointed at the photograph "...and he made me absorb some of that power making me able to walk, run and even feel my legs. I couldn't be any more grateful than I am already. Because of that event, the emeralds lost its powers and turned to dust."
Emi was left speechless. How would one be able to live without the ability to walk, run or be able to do anything with their legs. She couldn't imagine it. It's just too...too painful.
"Erm...sorry...I keep interrogating you..." Emi stammered.
"No worries, what do you wanna ask?" Zamy sat down on her bed as well as Emi. The photograph was placed back to it's original place.
"How did you absorb some of the chaos emeralds' power? Did Zonic like have to out the emeralds on you or..." Emi stopped midway at the redness that appeared on Zamy's cheeks.
"No way..." Emi gasped.
"What do you mean?" Zamy looked away biting her bottom lip. Emi had a sly grin on like a Cheshire cat.
"Did he kiss you?" Emi pried.
"Don't be silly," Zamy denied but the pitch in her voice indicated that she was not telling the truth.
"He so did! How did it feel? Did you have sparks? What did his lips taste like? Are you guys dating?" Emi bombarded poor Zamy with her questions making the Zonecop cringe in embarrassment.
"Emi...hush." Zamy stated with a bit of sass in her voice which automatically shut the younger of the two up. "You'll find out how it feels when your Sonic kisses you...I mean Nicky...I...you know what I mean right? And Zonic and I are not dating much to my dismay."
"Yeah, I do but I doubt that Nicky would want to kiss me. At least not now in this situation." Emi added the last sentence bitterly.
"Why not- wait. You have a bruise on the side of your forehead," Zamy guided Emi's chin to her direction so she could inspect the bruise in a bit more care.
"Is it that bad?" Emi sighed sadly.
"It's a reddish colour and kind of stands out in your fur. If it was purple or blue then it would've been bad." Zamy chuckled "How did that happen?"
"Stupid Nicky teased me and dropped me while I was trying to dance with him just because I wouldn't give him the chaos emerald. I got angry and tried to chase him but he threw more insults at me for his amusement. I got angrier and angrier! By the time I almost caught him, he ducked and I fell down! Instead of being a gentleman and help me up, he laughed at me saying more silly stuff to me. It hurts!" Emi resisted the tears that pricked her eyes and that resulted in her eyelashes getting glistened with tear drops.
"But Emi, he was only joking right? He didn't mean no harm."
"He didn't even apologise to me! Is that too much to ask for?"
"Emi, has Nicky ever let you down before?"
"Yeah! Like when he missed our dates. One time, he used an excuse that he was sucked in a book of magic and Arthur and he ended up having to fight and he became king and blah blah blah! He used such a lame excuse to avoid a date with me!" Emi pouted.
"After all those adventures you told me you guys had just a while ago, I'm not surprised that Nicky would get stuck in something like this. I would've believed him for sure. I'm pretty sure that the 'Arthur and Camelot' adventure wasn't made up." Zamy concluded making Emi's eyes widen.
"I did hit him with my hammer after that...what if he was telling the truth?" Emi's bottom lip trembled and within a second, she wailed and started to cry "Waaaaaaaa! What kind of girl am I? No wonder Nicky doesn't like me! Waaaahaaaaa!"
"Emi...EMI!" Zamy yelled ceasing Emi's cries. "Calm down, I'm pretty sure that was a long time ago, right?" Emi nodded "He's not mad at you though and he likes you."
"As a friend," Emi hiccuped.
"No, he likes you more than that. Where has your spirit gone? You, me and our counterparts know that deep inside that our love isn't one sided."
"Yes...you're right!"
"You're Emi Rose or...Amy Rose..."
"I'm Emi Rozu! And I know that my Sonic loves me as much as I love him!"
"You go girl!"
"Well of course~ I'm me!"
They both laughed at this and collapsed on the bed trying to catch their breath. Emi sighed contently. She wasn't mad or upset anymore, she was in pure bliss.
"I think I could sleep here..." Emi whispered and turned her head to see Zamy.
"Go ahead- as long as you don't fart on it."
"Ew...that's not very ladylike! I wouldn't do such a thing."
"Okay, I was only teasing, heheh." Zamy looked up at her ceiling and sighed.

"Huh?" Zamy's watch was buzzing. She pressed a button and Zails' voice came on.
"Zonic, Zamy and Znuckles, please come to the laboratory. I've located a chaos emerald in our dimension." he said. The voice message ended and Zamy jumped off the bed.
"Zamy?" Emi sat up.
"Explore the HQ while I'm at the laboratory. Okay? Oh and please don't tell anyone what I've told you so far, it's private!" she winked and then ran off.
Emi was left alone on the bed. She let out a small 'hmmm' and then proceeded to walk out of the door and to the opposite direction Zamy ran off to in the corridor.
"She said there was a garden somewhere..." Emi spotted a lift. It was similar to the one Zails was on. Emi pressed a button and the doors of the lift opened. When she got inside, she scanned the buttons and its labels on the side. "Wards...infirmary...post mortem? No way! Canteen...main hall...aha! Garden!" Emi pressed the button.
Doors closing...Destination: Greenhouse Garden
The doors shut and the lift glowed in a cyan colour. The lift went up at a very rapid speed. The way Emi could tell she was going fast was because the lift was transparent and her surroundings were almost blurred. Only she couldn't feel the speed.
Ping! Please mind the doors, doors opening
The lift's doors opened and Emi skipped out of it. The lift ride wasn't even five seconds long! She looked around her surroundings but then spotted Nicky. He was all alone there.
"Nicky? There's no one else out here..."
(With Nicky)
"Dasai Zonic...dasai..." Nicky muttered to himself. He messed with his quills to make sure the flowers he picked were safe and secure there without being torn apart by his sharp quills. "He ran off as soon as he received Zails' message without as much as a word. No one ditches me, Sonic The Hedgehog like that!"
"Nicky?" Nicky faced forward to see Emi walking up towards him. "What are you doing here?"
"Er..." Nicky kept his arms behind his head to make sure she doesn't see the flowers yet. "Hiya Emi!"
'That's it Nicky, keep a smile on your face so she doesn't suspect a thing.' Nicky told himself mentally.
"I was just exploring the headquarters and all that jazz, yeah." Nicky took a step sideways. 'Why am I getting nervous? She certainly doesn't look she's about to pound me with her hammer right now right?' Nicky sweat dropped and Emi gave an unamused look. She spotted a bit of red behind Nicky's quills and squinted at it.
"What do you have in your quills?" she was about to touch it but Nicky stepped away and with his speed ended up behind Emi.
Emi turned around with a 'huh?'
"N...nothing!" Nicky is good at keeping secrets but not good at lying.
"Nicky, you can't hide things from me! Just show me will you!" Emi pounced on Nicky but he dodged out of the way. She lost her balance and was about to fall on the floor but Nicky caught her with ease by catching her by the waist. He put her on her feet and looked away as she turned to glare at him.
"Nicky...temae..." Emi warned but Nicky just grabbed her arm before she could summon her trademark hammer. He took the flowers out of his quills and put the bunch in her hand. "Ehhhhh..." Emi blushed. The bunch of flowers consisted a mixture of yellow daffodils, white daisies and lilac roses. Nicky may not be the best flower picker and sorting them out in matching colours however, he sure did make Emi's heart flutter and beat against her chest rapidly.
"Nani?" Emi looked up at Nicky. He flashed his trademark smile and reddened slight;y before attempting a dash out of the door. His attempt was futile since Emi grabbed his arm. "Wait! Onegai?" Emi pleaded and Nicky reluctantly turned around. She now had a view of how red his cheeks were.
'Come on Emi, just let me go! I don't think I could stand how hard my heart is beating against my chest. It's hurting me, literally!' Nicky thought to himself a little flustered at Emi's touch.
"Did you pick these yourself?" Emi beamed at him. Nicky gave a small nod.
'Okay, how did she do that? She just smiles at me and now my heart is beating at sonic speed. Stop looking so cute Emi!' Nicky panicked silently.
"Arigato! You have no idea how much it means to me!" Emi pecked his cheek and then again and then again.
"Eh! No more kiss! No more kiss! Emi! Onegai!" Nicky gasped and Emi listened to him with a giggle "I do know how much it means to ya Emi, I don't like ya to be angry at me and erm..."
"Hit you with my hammer?" Emi sniffed the flowers then noticed something. "Sonikku?" Nicky's ears perked up at Emi's voice.
"Yeah Ames?" he smiled.
"You picked these lilac roses right?" Nicky had a confused look on.
"Yeah, why?"
"Do you know what the meaning of this rose is?" Nicky froze and stared at her with anticipation.
'I know very well what lilac roses mean! I thought I could get away with it by escaping you but noooo you had to keep me back! BakkaZonic bakka! His fault for leaving me all alone in the greenhouse garden!'
"N...no," Nicky lied. Emi's face fell but then she smiled again. 'And they say it's obvious when I lie,' Emi mused to herself. Suddenly, her bruise started to pain again and Emi let out a little hiss. She looked away from Nicky to touch her bruise on the side of her forehead only to feel it throb with more pain. "Emi? How did ya get that bruise there?" Nicky had a bit of worry in his voice.
He tucked a finger under Emi's chin to guide it to his direction and had a better look at her bruise. It was quite red and obvious. Both hedgehogs blushed at the physical contact with each other.
"You know, when you got me angry and I chased you with my hammer then fell when you ducked?" Emi muttered slightly embarrassed. Nicky let out an 'oh'.
"Gomen ne Emi. I didn't mean to go this far." Nicky stroked her three individual bangs and sighed. "I've been a real jerk to you lately haven't I?"
"It doesn't matter Nicky! You've given me these beautiful flowers and you've apologised. Looks like you didn't have to propose to me to make it up to me like I hoped," Emi put on her puppy eyes as Nicky chuckled nervously.
"We're too young to get married Emi, wait for another ten years before thinking about it will ya," Nicky ruffled her bangs playfully earning a protesting squeal from her.
"Wait, so does that mean you agree Nicky-San?" Emi batted her eyelashes "To be my future husband?"
"I didn't say that Emi..." Nicky groaned but then smiled at her childishness.
"I wonder how many kids we're gonna have! Five? Six? Ten?" Emi babbled on and nuzzled her head against Nicky's chest as he mentally face palmed himself.
'I wonder, once she finds out how babies are made, if she still wants to have ten.' Nicky blushed to himself. Emi, she was way too innocent. He kept on glancing at her bruise and couldn't help but feel guilt rise in his throat.
"Emi? How much does that bruise hurt?" Nicky changed the subject and snapped Emi out of her babbling.
"Nicky, I said it doesn't matter any more."
"It's just...I don't think the flowers and apology was enough to make it up to you."
"There is one thing you could do..."
"Except a proposal Emi."
"...okay! Maybe you could kiss the bruise better?"
Nicky literally flinched as soon as she mentioned the word kiss. The butterflies in his stomach started to flutter harder and he gave a nervous smile.
"K...kiss it better?" Nicky bit his bottom lip as Emi nodded.
'A kiss...A KISS! Couldn't she have asked for cake or shoes or for me to go shopping with her like a normal girl!?' Nicky gritted his teeth as thoughts ran down his head.
"Nicky, you're acting like you've been told to swim in the sea. It's only a simple peck on my head. You've done it before so I don't see what's the big deal now." Emi teased and twirled one of the lilac rose in her hand.
'I don't what's more scarier! Swimming...getting wet and eurgh! Or kissing a girl on the head...a cute girl...who loves me so...! Wait a minute!' Nicky's trail of thoughts stopped.
"And when did I ever kiss ya on the head?" Nicky narrowed his head.
"Whenever I relax by you or pretend to sleep by you, you kiss my head." Nicky's entire muzzle was flushed in a deep red colour. She was awake the whole time?
"Zurui..." Nicky mumbled to himself.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" Emi made her point by cupping a hand behind her ear.
"Er...I said you must've been dreaming! Yeah, that's it! There's no way I'd kiss anyone!" Nicky added.
"I was not dreaming Nicky, I know you did kiss me before! I know how warm your lips feel on my fur, it's so soft and not really masculine...but I love the feel of it!" Emi countered. "Please, just kiss my bruise away, it's not fair that I give you my affections all the time." Emi tried to guilt trip him.
'Not like I asked for any affections anyway! Look how sneaky this girl is, trying to make me feel guilty. She has no idea how much I feel like I'm about to explode.' Nicky started to sweat.
The blue hedgehog took a deep breath and then slipped one hand on Emi's cheek and the other gripping her hand that was holding the bunch of flowers. He spoke in a very low and husky voice for only Emi's ears to hear.
"Fine just this one time but if you tell a soul, I will never let you sleep next to me at the park while I'm resting and I'll never take you on a date again."
'The amount of secrets I'm told! It's not like I've got anyone to tell them to.' Emi mentally rolled her eyes.
She nodded at Nicky as he brought his face forward and their nose was touching. He guided her head to bow down slightly so her bruise was opposite his lips. He leaned forward despite the chills travelling down his spine. His lips trembled as they made contact with her head. He puckered slightly and kept his lips on her head for no more than two seconds however, it felt like forever with the hedgehogs. Consequently, their cheeks erupted with redness and Nicky looked away while clearing his throat.
"That felt...it was..." Emi tried to put the feelings in words but as Zamy mentioned, it was indescribable and the kiss wasn't even on the cheeks let alone the lips. If the feeling was that great on her head then she wondered what the feeling would've felt like on her lips.
'She...she smelt so good. The kiss felt nice, now that she is awake.' Nicky wondered.
"Ehem!" someone cleared their throat and caused both hedgehogs to turn around and look at the intruder with flustered faces. It was none other than Zonic along with Silver.
"Can you feel, the love tonight..." Silver sang in a badly disguised woman voice. Zonic raised a brow at him.
"He's high on sugar...anyway! I was looking for you two, we've found a chaos emerald in this dimension and it's nearby but it looks like you two were kinda busy..." Zonic rubbed a finger under the bridge of his nose.
Nicky immediately let go of Emi and zipped towards Zonic and Silver.
"What are you on about? Lets go and get the chaos emerald now!" Nicky darted off to the direction of Zails' laboratory leaving Zonic, Silver and Emi by the entrance of the greenhouse. Zonic glanced at the roses Emi was staring at in her hands and chuckled.
(Flashback)
"Zamy and Zails planted most of these flowers just to keep our greenhouse looking fresh and pretty. We use this area to grow experimental plants and keep illegal drugs in here to test on them." Zonic spoke as he showed Nicky the greenhouse garden to him. "Zamy wouldn't mind if you took a flower or two from here. Since you already picked a couple of flowers from the fields, you could mix 'em with these."
Nicky nodded and his emerald eyes peered at the flowers in surrounding him. He saw a rabbit girl not too far away from him and looked up at Zonic.
"Is that Cream's counterpart?" Nicky asked.
"You mean Zream? Yeah, she's a nurse at the infirmary and she tends to these plants here and looks after them. Such a sweet girl, no wonder Zails has a thing for her." Zonic chuckled and they both darted towards Zream.
Zream stopped her work when she saw Zonic and Nicky standing in front of her. She stood up and gave a very warm smile.
"Good evening Sir Zonic and Mr Nicky!" she exclaimed politely. Zonic gave her a nod while Nicky gave a simple 'Yo!' "Is there anything I could help you two with?"
"He needs flowers for his girl..." Zonic answered.
"She's not my girl!" Nicky growled.
"For Emi, right?" Zream asked and Nicky agreed. "Then you should give her roses! Follow me." Zream skipped down the garden with Zonic and Nicky following her. They reached to the corner of the greenhouse which was covered with patches of rose bushes all in different colours. "Do you know the meaning of flowers?" Zream batted her eyes and giggled.
"I doubt he would..." Zonic grumbled but when he saw Nicky's hesitant face, "No way...you know meanings of flowers!?" Zonic grinned and Nicky scowled at him.
"Only roses! It's cos Emi told me the meanings of them once." Nicky murmured.
"I suggest you give her red or maybe pink roses!" Zream squealed.
"Nu-uh! We all know what red and pink roses mean and I don't want Emi to take this the wrong way." Nicky protested.
"Don't you like her?"
"Yes but...not in that way you're all indicating." Zream put her hands on her hips and sighed.
"Okay, don't get your panties in a twist!"
"I don't wear pants."
The trio were silent for a minute awkwardly. Zream turned and picked up a couple of roses. She handed them to Nicky and revealed that they were lilac/lavender in colour.
"Love at first sight..." Nicky murmured and trembled slightly.
"I'll give you an advice, when you see Emi, give her the flowers and then run off so she doesn't question you later. If Emi is anything like Zamy then even she wouldn't persist on something as small as flowers right?" Zream winked.
Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Zonic's watch buzzed so he pressed a button. He read the message that appeared as a hologram then dashed out of the greenhouse.
"Hey...HEY! He just ditched me here!" Nicky yelled. Zream shook her head.
(End of flashback)
"I see Nicky's given you the flowers already." Zonic said fiddling with one of his ears.
"Flowers? Can I have one?" Silver asked childishly. He was floating upside down and doing somersaults.
"Zonic? What's wrong with Silver?" Emi gave a weird look at Silver. Silver snatched a daisy from Emi's bunch and began to pluck the petals. Emi sighed in relief that it wasn't the roses.
"Him and Shadow ended up in the canteen. At first I thought he must've ate a lot of high sugar snack bars but it looks like he's drunk. I wonder who the idiot is to give him alcohol at this state." Zonic answered.
"I didn't have any alcohol! Pffffft! I get like this every time I eat lots of caramel!" Silver corrected the Zonecop.
'That's twice in a day that I was wrong!' Zonic growled to himself.
"Oh I remember! You went like this the first time when I treated you and Blaze with some of my home made caramel chocolates. It'll wear off soon Zonic, don't worry." Emi tilted her head with both her hands holding the bunch of flowers in front of her.
Zonic was taken aback. She reminded him a lot like Zamy during their younger days. A little blush crept on his face. He turned around and shook his head.
"She's too cute, that's bad." he muttered to himself. "We should go to Zails' laboratory right now," he turned back to face them and grabbed both Emi's and Silver's arm and ran off.

Sorry if the Zonecops do kinda seem OOC but I don't think that's possible since we barely hear the about the Zonecops in the comics.
