Steve woke up to a beeping from the quinjet a cockpit. He started to stretch and realized someone was on him. He looked down, saw red hair and the memories from before flooded back. He couldn't help but smile, she accepted his name, it only took him "dying" for her to do it but at this point he wasn't going to complain. "Don't even think about moving Steve. I spent 70 years without my pillow." She mumbled. Steve lightly chuckled.
"Doll, we need to move. That alarm could mean something." Steve reasoned.
"Oh fine, dear." She said as she slowly stood up, kissing him lightly on the lips as she did so. "I love you. Don't ever forget that, my love." She said as she turned and walked away. Steve's smile grew larger, when they were dating and even early into their marriage she would hardly say it, like she was almost afraid to say it.
He walked up to the cockpit as Natasha strapped on a headset and took control of the jet again, through the glass he saw people fleeing from a large building, being followed by a man with a horned helmet. He could see local police responding, and saw as the man leveled a staff and blew the police car up. Steve didn't have a doubt in his mind that this was Loki. His smile completely disappeared as he kissed Natasha's cheek, before turning around and fastening his helmet and grabbing his shield. He passed a red button that said in white lettering 'Ramp open' which he hit with his fist. "Steve! What are you doing!" Yelled Natasha from the nose of the craft.
"My job, my love." He replied before jumping off the ramp. Natasha just stared at the open ramp for a second before shaking her head and mumbling in Russian while pressing the button to raise the ramp. Steve jumped right in front of an older man and saved him. Her heart seemed to jump straight into her throat, she knew he was Captain America, and he was tough, but she worried about him, and his lack of self preservation. She took a big breath when Steve stood up and started to walk toward Loki, taking her queue she brought the quinjet to a hover and deployed the minigun. "Loki, drop the weapon and stand down." She said using the ship's load speaker. He just kind of smirked and fired his scepter at her. She cranked the stick to the side and back to dodge the blast. As she righted the jet she saw Steve fighting Loki. At one point he was on his knees with the base of the scepter on his head before he pushed it away and round house kicked Loki in the face. She could Steve getting a little tired, and got a little worried before she heard a voice over the radio, "Agent Romanoff, did you miss me?" Before the PA system was overridden and started blaring ACDC. Stark in his Iron Man suit cake flying in and shot
Loki in the chest. Loki flew backward and landed on his back. Loki raised his hands and with a glow, his armor disappeared.
Natasha landed the jet and lowered the ramp. As she walked out she called "Mr. Rogers, could I get a word?" She walked several feet away with a worried Steve following. "Steve, I love you, you know that." He nodded, "so what the hell was that? Jumping out? I could have landed and helped you out." Steve could see unshed tears in her eyes, and gently pulled her into a hug. "I love you Natasha Rogers, with all my heart. I just couldn't let that man die, he didn't deserve it. I'm sorry I worried you but I had to do what was right, you know that my love." She could only nod her head as it was tucked into his shoulder and he could feel tears spilling from her eyes. Tilting his head down, he kissed her head. "I'm here, I'm safe. I'm never going to leave you again." He heard her ask quietly, "Promise?" To which he replied "yes". With that she pulled herself away from him and nodded. She had her Black Widow face on again as she turned and walked back to the quinjet. "Natasha, how do you want to play this? Are we going to pretend we aren't married?" He asked, and she just looked at him with that dead expression and raised eye brow, "that's what I though." He sighed.
"Natashile, it's good to see you my dear" Stark said, as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. In a flash she had his arm off her shoulder, and with a thud Stark was on the ground, Iron Man suit and all.
"Never call me that again Stark, and don't touch me." With that she let him go and walked to the cockpit. Stark was stupefied, he had been beaten while in his suit. He was embarrassed but was determined not to show it. Steve was smirking, and Loki was chuckling, so Stark lightly smacked him in the back of head, "Shut up, Reindeer Games." He grumbled.
It had been an interesting experience, to say the least. Thor had shown up, took Loki with Stark in pursuit. Steve followed them, and to appease his wife, used a parachute. After Natasha picked everyone up she flew straight back to the helecarrier. Once Loki was locked up the team assembled gather on the bridge (weird place to have a conference but still) listening to Fury talk to Loki. Steve sat on the other side of the table. "Loki is going to drag this out. Thor, what's his play?" Steve asked.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They are not of Asgard or any world known, he means to lead them against your people in return I suspect for the Tesseract." Thor stated.
"An Army...from outer space" Steve slowly said, he just couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"So he's building another portal, that's what he needs Eric Selvig for." Bruce added.
"Selvig" Thor asked. "He's an astrophysicist." Bruce supplied. "He is a friend" replied Thor looking at Banner.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell. Along with one of ours." Natasha stated, and quickly looked away. Steve looked at her with concern, what was this person to Natasha that she would get worked up enough to almost breach her Widow face. A friend or... A lover? Steve could feel his jealous and rage starting to build. He knew if was irrational, he was dead for 70 years. He would have wanted her to move on and live her life. But he just couldn't help it. Steve brushed the thought aside. "Loki let us take him, he's not leading an army from here."
"I don't thing we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats." Bruce chipped in, Steve couldn't help but smirk, and looking across the table Natasha was too.
" have car how you speak, Loki might be beyond reason, but he is of Asgard and my brother" Thor stated, to which Natasha shot back with "He killed 80 people in 2 days."
"He's adopted?" Thor said, not really sure how that makes a difference. Natasha just smirked and glanced at Steve.
And in walked the one person Natasha didn't want to deal with right now, Tony Stark. She saw in Steve's eyes earlier the jealous and fear when she brought up Clint. He didn't have to worry, she never slept with anybody after he went down, and was never in a relationship. As cheesy as it sounds, Steve was her one and only. "Natalie, or should I call you Natasha. My bed is much lonelier without you in it." Stark said waking up to the group. Steve's eyes shot to him, promising great physical harm on Tony, than he looked over to Natasha, his eyes full of pain and hurt. Stark was talking to Banner about science, but Steve really wasn't listening. He couldn't even look at Natasha right now, and when Banner and Stark left he quickly got up and left.
Natasha got worried, she knew that what Stark had said hurt Steve, and seeing him quickly walk away confirmed it, however he didn't hear Natasha denying ever being with Stark and that she would rather die.
Flash back
Natasha was undercover as Tony Stark's assistant, Natalie Rushman. She knew that Stark was trying to get her to sleep with him and had rebuffed him several times. She knew about his condition and had already informed Fury. The last time Stark tried to seduce her was during his birthday party. He was very drunk and had called her to his room to "discuss some business ideas". Natasha was smart enough to see through the bull shit. Yet she still went up. "Natalie, if this was your last birthday, what would you do?" He asked.
"I would do what I wanted and have no regrets." She answered before Stark drunkly lunged forward for a kiss which she easily avoided. "What if I want to kiss you?" Stark slurred as Natasha stood a couple feet away.
"My husband would object to that and so would, Mr. Stark" she replied holding her left hand up, showing him the ring Steve's mother's engagement ring, and her wedding band. Stark was speechless, a very rare occurrence as he nodded and staggered away. She later saw him entertaining his guests while in his suit. She hadn't meant to tell Stark that she was married, technically a Widow. Her thoughts moved toward Steve and her engagement. She still remembered when they got those and she wouldn't trade it for the world.
Flash back
Steve and her walked hand in hand through a village in Eastern Germany. She had already forgotten the name of the village, and frankly didn't care. They made an odd pair to look at, both wearing their dress greens (she was even wearing a skirt!), walking through the village. Steve had asked her to marry him last night and she had immediately said yes with tears in her eyes. The Commandoes had been watching a movie in the Rec tent, killing time before their next mission, when at the end of the movie, spliced into the movie was a recording of Steve. "Hello Natalia, you will have to forgive me for asking this way, if I haven't asked you by now, than Bucky has taken steps to ensure I do. I know we have only been together for a couple of months and have only known each other for a year. These lossy couple of months have been the best of my life, and I want you to know that I love you, more than anything in the whole world" to which Bucky who must have been recording it shouted "hey!" "Sorry Buck, but it's true. I love your strength, your determination, and so many other things. What I want to ask is, will you marry me?" The projector died, and someone snapped the lights on. She was sitting forward in her chair, and Steve had been sitting next to her however during that little clip, he had gotten down on one knee in front of her holding a diamond ring in his hand with pleading eyes. "Natalia, you are the best thing to ever happen to me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" He asked, fear of rejection plain to see in his eyes. Her eyes misted over and she nodded, "YES! I mean yes I will marry you Steve!" She launched herself off the seat and tackled Steve kissing him fiercely. Once they broke for air, he slipped on the ring. "It was my mothers before she passed away, and she told me to give it to the woman who I wanted to spend forever with, and I just did." She was shocked, it was a family heirloom, one he carried on his dog tags since she had known him. She was crying tears of joy as she leaned down to kiss him again, ignoring the wolf whistles from the rest of the Commandoes.
She was pulled out of her train of thought when Steve suddenly stopped beside her. He was staring at a jewelry shop, and without eve know looking at her walked inside. Steve asked the clerk in German for the set that was in the window display. The clerk was a little nervous, but agreed. It wasn't everyday that Captain America wanted to buy jewelry from him after all. He showed the couple a set of gold wedding bands, which matched the engagement ring perfectly. They bought the set, and had them engraved. They both had the initials SR and NR enclosed with a heart engraved on the inside. They were payed for and after waiting for the engraving to be complete Steve pocketed the as they walked out. "Steve you know we haven't even set a date, right?" She asked."How about we get married tomorrow?" Steve asked nervously. She couldn't even form a reply other to smile and kiss him, hard.
The next day, Steve was nervously looking himself over, looking for any thing that could ruin this moment. Bucky calmed reached over and smacked Steve's hands. "Relax, you look great and even if you didn't, she would still marry you." He stated.
" I know, I'm just nervous. What if she changes her mind?" Steve asked.
"She won't, stop worrying." As Bucky finished saying that, the wedding march started. The doors of the chapel opened up and in walked Natasha, wearing a white dress that her and Peggy had found last minute. Standing beside her was Colonel Phillips, who Natasha had asked to give her away. Steve was speechless, her gown reached to her feet and even if it was last minute it hung to her every curve in the best way possible. Looking higher, Steve saw that she was looking at him, a smirk on her face, yet unending love in her eyes. Her eyes were still bright even if the veil slightly covered them, and her hair was done into a beautiful French braid flowing down her back. Steve was so entranced he could hardly pay attention to the preacher, saying the required 'I do's', what he will never forget is how she looked or their first kiss as a married couple. The reception was small, just the Commandoes and Colonel Phillips. It was during this that the Commandoes had given Natasha as well as Steve the custom M1911's. Their initials were on the grips enclosed with a heart, the only difference was the name engraved into the slide. On hers was her new name, Natasha Romanoff, an alias the Allied Military Intelligence created after telling the Russians that Natalia Romanova had died in an explosion. Phillips called in a few favors after the couple got engaged, to keep the Russians from creating an issue about her not returning to them. It was the best day of her life, and one she would remember forever.
AN: please review, the comments I get help me continue writing and is very encouraging. I love reading the reviews and please if you have any ideas please let me know and I will see what I can do. I have never done a fanfiction before so I'm not sure how I am doing, and this chapter personally seems kind of a mess but it works and fills in the holes that needed to filled. Enjoy!
