Natasha stopped by the lab, checking in on the two scientists. Tony and Bruce were discussing the difference between the Iron Man suits and the hulk. She cleared her throat letting them know she was there. "What can we help Fury's little helper with?" Asked Tony, as smug and ever.
"Just checking in on your progress before I go talk to Loki. Are we any closer to finding the Cube?" She asked.
"Want to get your boyfriend back from Loki?" Tony smirked
"He's not my boyfriend Stark. Just answer the question." Natasha growled. Tony raising his hands up in defeat, "No, not yet at least. The computer is running the algorithm and is searching for it now. Once we find it we will tell you, deal?" Natasha nodded and walked out, Bruce following her. "Ah, Agent Romanoff, can I talk to you a second?" Natasha stopped and looked at Bruce, he was running his hands together in a nervous fashion, "After this is all over, would you care to go for a nice dinner or maybe coffee sometime with me?" Bruce managed to stutter out. Her eye brows shot straight up, of all the things she expected today, being asked on a date with the Hulk was not one of them. "I'm sorry, Dr Banner, but I'm actually married."
His face got all flustered in embarrassment, "I'm sorry, when Thor called you Ms Romanoff, I just thought..." He trailed off.
"You thought I was single. It's ok, Romanoff is my maiden name. I only use it in the field and while on duty."
"So I'm guessing that Agent Barton is your husband? I saw how you reacted when his name was brought up."
"Wha.. No, Agent Barton doesn't have a snow ball's chance in hell with me and he knows it. No, my husband isn't a SHIELD agent. Now if you excuse me, I have to go talk to Loki." With that she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving a thoroughly embarrassed Bruce behind.
Steve stayed in the gym for a little while before returning Natasha's room, their room. He went to go check on Banner and Stark.
Steve was upset, the last couple of days had been a whirlwind for him, and the end didn't seem to be insight. After his conversation with Bruce and Tony, something hadn't felt right. So he did what any person would do, he investigated, and what he found chilled him to the bone. He walked back into the lab, Stark arguing with Fury. No one in the room had noticed him yet so he threw down the device he was holding, a hydra rifle, onto the table. "SHIELD uses the Tessaract to build weapons, sorry the computer was moving a little slow." Fury starts to deny that was what they were doing until Tony called him on his bluff. Natasha had walked into the room during this, her eyes drawn to the very familiar weapon on the table, her eyes shot to Steve than Fury and back to Steve who nodded, his eyes asking if she knew about this, to which she shook her head. She would never have agreed to this, too many of her friends had died to weapons like that, she would never be ok with SHIELD making more of them. The relief was very noticeable in not just his eyes, but his body language, until he tensed and his eyes became cold. Natasha was actually worried as Steve picked up Fury by his collar, pushing him up against a wall. "How dare you! Do you know how many people, how many of our Commandoes, died because of weapons like that!" Steve roared. Natasha had only seen Steve like this once, shortly after their marriage, when Bucky had died and when he caught sight of Zola. She was afraid at the time that he was going to throw him off the train. But she managed to calm him down, she just hoped that it calmed him down this time too, or else SHIELD would be looking for a new Director. The rest of the group was slowly walking away as Steve wound up for a punch. Natasha saw her chance and snuck in front of him, kissing her husband as deeply as she could. Fury was flabbergasted for a minute, "Agent Romanoff, stop that this instant! That is conduct unbecoming a SHIELD Agent...uuff!" He started to say before her elbow hit him in the stomach winding him. Steve's right arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer as his fist unclenched, and he let go of Fury with his left hand, allowing Fury to scurry away, as it also wrapped around her. Her arms wrapped around his neck pulling him further into the kiss, as he pulled her closer as well. He poured all of his pain, anger and frustration into that kiss, as he had before, just as she poured all of her love and strength into him. Someone, probably Stark cleared their throat, the couple breaking off the kiss. She could tell just from his eyes that he was here, and he was ok. God, she loved him, and never would stop, his eyes showing a question to which she nodded, grabbing his hand and turning to the group. Bruce looked flustered, a little angry and jealously. Stark's mouth hung all the way open, Thor had a smile, like he had known the entire time. Fury...well Fury looked furious. (Pun intended)
Stark was just getting his mind rebooted from watching Red kiss Capsicle, "Wait Natashlie, aren't you married?" he asked more out of curiosity.
Natasha sent a look over to Stark, "I am Starkā¦" she started before Stark jumped in, "How would your husband think about you sucking face with a grandpa?"
"I think, I'm okay with it since I am that grandpa, Stark" Steve replied for her with a smug look on his face.
Stark was speechless again, mouth hanging open, "Oh look honey, I think we broke him" Natasha said looking up from her position flush against his chest. Fury brushed himself off and was shaking his head at everything, he wasn't sure how they were possibly married, but Natasha's odd behavior since Captain America suddenly made sense. Especially since he was one of the few besides Clint and Maria Hill to know her real age.
"Okay, I'm going to ask the obvious question, Rogers is 93 years old, and was defrosted a week and a half ago, so unless you two worked really fast, how the hell are you to married?" Tony finally got his mouth working.
"That, Stark is a very long story. Steve, dear, we are going to have a long conversation about protecting my honor...again. The short answer, well there is no short answer, other than I'm 91, Steve is 93 and we got married in early 1945 in a small German village. Steve and I have been married for 67 year now, though he was obviously frozen and missing for almost all of it." Steve had her back pressed against his chest, his arms around her waist and have her a quick kiss to her check, "I promise once this situation is resolved, we will go somewhere and I'll make it all up to you." He whispered huskily into her ear, her checks becoming flush for a moment before she turned her head, pecking him on the lips, "You better." A smile on his face was the last thing she saw before an explosion turned everything black.
AN; I know I moved away from the movie, just couldn't really think of a better way for the team to find out they were married. Also, if I was Steve and I know that SHIELD was using Hydra weapons and tech to make WMDs I would have been very angry. Mostly minor changes to this chapter, except for Bruce's melt down which looking back I decided to get ride of. I am going back through the chapters and editing and rewriting as I go. Lets see what happens. As always ideas and constructive criticism is always welcome.
