Chapter 15 – Unique
It was next day and Tigress hadn't seen Master Proelio or Madam Jun the whole day. She and the others had a day off, which Tigress found weird – Why would Master Shifu give them a day off? He never gave them a day off.
But when there no training was, Po had planned a trip to the valley. They had been walking for many hours now, Po was carrying a bunch of unnecessary stuff that he would never use or need, and Tigress actually enjoyed walking in the valley, looking around at the market. The citizens were also quieter now when they were use to the Furious Five and the Dragon Warrior walking around at the market. So Tigress was calmer that before.
"Oh! Look, clocks!" Po squalled in excitement and hurried towards a little shop while trying not to drop everything he was holding, "See, there's one made for us too! One with Viper, one with me, one with Mantis… Look, Tigress, they've got one with you too" He took up the clock with the tiger cut into the side of it and was about to show it to Tigress when he almost dropped it. Fortunately someone grabbed it before it fell to the ground – Or maybe you could call it unfortunately for Tigress.
"Better be careful with this one – It's antic," the male-tiger said and smiled at Po before looking examining at the clock. Tigress' smile was now gone and she clenched her fists. What was he doing in the valley? Didn't he have work to do?
"Proelio, it's you!" Po said and then he quickly tried to bow for him. It didn't go well and he immediately had to stand up and grab some apples that were about to fall out of their bag, "I mean... Nice to see you again, Master Proelio"
Master Proelio laughed and kept on holding the watch. "I told you to call med Proelio," he said with his friendly, charming smile, "There's no need to be formal. We know each other now. Right, Tigress?"
He looked directly into Tigress eyes. There was something behind his glance that Tigress couldn't analyze. "I prefer to call you Master Proelio. Since you're only here to work and not to create friendship with your pre-students."
Master Proelio simply rolled his eyeballs at her and turned his attention at the others again. "So, what are you doing here at the market?" he asked, "Did Master Shifu really let you take a day off? Well, maybe he was still blushing after Madam Jun's compliments." Tigress narrowed her eyes at him. Had he been talking to Madam Jun or had he just been spying on them?
"Madam Jun…" Mantis didn't seem to recall who that was, "Is that the old lady who is walking confused around in our corridors" Master Proelio pointed at him like he was telling him that he was right. "That sounds exactly like the old Madam June," he smiled, "She's works at an orphanage and used to take care of me when I was little. She's here to help Master Shifu with something."
And that something was to find out more about the mysterious master. Tigress wasn't the only one not fully trusting Master Proelio.
"Did you live at an orphanage?" Viper's eyes were now filled with sympathy, "I'm sorry to hear that." Also the others looked at the tiger with depression in their eyes. Apparently growing up at the orphanage was the most horrible thing in the world.
"I had a great childhood there so no need to be sad for me," Master Proelio said while shrugging and then he turned towards the shop again. The little sheep in there seemed overwhelmed when standing in front of the protectors of the Valley of Peace and the legendary Master Proelio, "I think I'll buy this clock. It seems… Unique."
Tigress froze when hearing the last word… You're unique Tigress. Always remember that. She shook her head and managed to think that it was just a coincidence that he used the exact same word to describe the clock with the tiger on it. Master Proelio didn't seem to have thought about his words – He just paid for the clock, smiled at the cheerful sheep and looked at the others again.
"I should be heading back to the Jade Palace. I have lots of work to do," he smiled at everyone except Tigress, "You remember what I told you, didn't you?" Before Tigress managed to react, he winked at her and walked away. She looked stunned after him. He did say unique on purpose!
"What did he tell you?" Monkey was now curious and so was everybody else. Tigress shook her head once again while answering; "It doesn't matter. So are we done or does Po need some more rubbish?"
"It's not rubbish, it's very useful stuff!" Po protested and tried to keep holding everything, "But I'm done. Can we go back now, I'm hungry." And so they walked towards the Jade Palace. And even though they walked fast, they never saw Master Proelio on the road.
The sun was setting, dinner was eaten and the half of the team was already lying in their beds and sleeping. Tigress on the other hand was still fully awake and was enjoying her evening with Mantis and Viper. They were drinking tea and even though Viper had been too careful with the herbs, Tigress thought it was delicious.
"I've heard that they are going to postpone the festival because of something with the weather," Viper said while sipping to her tea, "They said that the air had been to dry so the harvest was awful."
"I don't think that has ever happened before," Mantis said. He was also eating some leftovers of the dinner. That little guy could be really hungry sometimes.
"It hasn't," Tigress said, "But maybe it's a sign – Maybe someone are trying to tell them not to make the festival" Viper laughed and shook her head, "Tigress, don't be silly. It's not a sign, it's just bad luck."
"Fine then. But when we're at the festival and something horrible happens, then don't think that you can come to me," Tigress said but the smile on her face showed that she was joking even though she really didn't want the festival to be held. A festival to honour them? It seemed like a terrible idea.
The conversation went from festival to fireworks to why it hurts when you get burned. Suddenly Viper yawned and put down her empty cup of tea. "I think I'll go and rest now," she said and Mantis joined her, "I'm tired too. See you tomorrow, Tigress." They waved at her before leaving the room and Tigress looked around. It was night now… Maybe she really should go and meet Master Proelio.
She stood up and walked towards the training hall. Somehow Tigress was an important piece of the male-tiger's unknown plan. He needed another Tigress on her side. Why was it so necessary that it was a tiger? Why not Po, he was after all the Dragon Warrior. Yes, Master Proelio had a plan and Tigress wouldn't wait to find out what it was about.
Master Proelio must have been waiting on her for a long time because when Tigress came in, he was busy training – And he was good at it. He swung through the rings in the air and landed perfectly in the huge bowl that turned around so quick that normal people would get sick and threw up. But the master didn't. Instead he easily jumped out of it and walked towards the spinning trunks with spikes on them. He avoided most of them and the others did he destroy with only a kick. Finally he avoided the fire burning up from the floor and finished the obstacle course.
He smiled at Tigress when he saw her and walked towards her. "Master Tigress!" he said and bowed for her when reaching her, "I didn't think you would come." Why was he acting this way? Tigress pushed it aside and focused on not looking impressed by his training.
"I would like to give it a chance," she answered, "So let's get it over with."
"As you wish, great Master Tigress," Master Proelio said with a hand over his heart. His grin was teasing and this was clearly some sort of sick joke, "I want you to hit me."
Tigress' coldness was quickly gone and she looked at him with big eyes. "What? I can't hit you! You just taught me not to hit you!" She wanted to hit him… but that was disrespectful for anything Master Shifu had ever taught her.
The male-tiger walked completely close to Tigress, putting a hand on her shoulder and leaning down so they had the same height. "Do you remember everything I told you at the last training?" Tigress nodded trying not to stare into his eyes, which was hard when they were right in front of her. "Good," he said and then his smile was gone, "I still mean everything. Maybe you have the strength now but you still have no control over it. You're going to hurt everyone you know. Your master, the citizens, even your friends… But that would be impossible… Because you don't have any."
After the last word, Tigress hit him – In the face as hard as she could. Master Proelio just laughed like it didn't even hurt and straightened his back. "That's right! Hit me!"
Tigress came with an angry roar and pushed him away from her, but only so he was up against the wall. She attacked him with anger and hatred and didn't even think about if it hurt him or not… It didn't seem to hurt him at all. "Hit me harder, Tigress," he yelled and she did as he commanded, "Show your anger, show your strength! Hit me as the monster you are!"
And then she stopped painting. She had even made him bleed from his arm but he didn't seem to care. And right now Tigress didn't care. He looked at her with a confused glance when asking; "Why did you stop? Don't you want to train?"
"I'm not a monster," she whispered and hurried out of the training hall before Master Proelio could see her weakness pouring down her cheeks in shape as tears.
A/N: I'm sorry that this chapter is so short, but I still hope that you enjoyed it and yes Master Proelio is a jerk… But what do you think about the new training? Why do you think that Master Proelio is doing this? ;)
