Sorry I haven't updated since last year (LOL, New Years humor!). I just wanted to make sure this chapter's worth putting out. Hope you guys like it!
Ayumu opened his eyes after a night's sleep. He yawned and looked out the cave opening to see it was still cloudy outside but he could see blue sky coming through the clouds, so he knew it was morning and even better, the blizzard passed. Ayumu turned to see Spike still leaning against him asleep and snoring lightly. He gave the baby dragon a light nudge.
"Spike. Hey, Spike. It's morning, time to get up…" he whispered.
"Huh…wha…?" Spike mumbled as he woke up.
"Morning, buddy." Ayumu said quietly.
"*Yawn* Morning…" Replied Spike still half asleep. Then they both heard roaring outside and Spike's eyes shot open. "Oh no!"
Spike ran out of the cave with his rucksack but since he was still covered with the fabric he tripped and somersaulted out, dragging it with him. Once he got his head out of the fabric he noticed the other dragons flying away from the other mountains.
"Ayumu! The migration's leaving!"
The teenage dragon went out to see that Spike was right "Crap! Spike hop on! We gotta catch up!"
"How? Even we flew, we wouldn't be fast enough!" He said as he packed the fabric into his sack. Ayumu then grabbed Spike, hoisted him on his back and picking up his sack. I might as well get used to flying as a dragon now, or we're definitely gonna lose them.
"I have a fun fact for ya kid. Did you know that no living being can use 100 percent of their power because they have to keep some of it in reserve?" Ayumu asked his passenger.
"Uh… no. No I didn't" Spike replied wondering where Ayumu was going with this.
Ayumu gave a confident smirk as he spread his wings. "But because I'm a zombie, that limit doesn't apply! So I can use 100% and more!"
Using his strength Ayumu flew into the air at a speed that Spike was sure could give Rainbow Dash a run for her money.
"WHOOOOOOOOAAAAAA! G-FORCE IN MY FAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!" Spike exclaimed as he was hanging on to him for dear life. (Kid Icarus reference for the win!)
"Hang on kid! We're getting close to the migration!" He called back as he flew closer to the dragons.
Meanwhile…
"Hurry Rainbow Dash! We're going to lose them!" Twilight said frantically to the pegasus carrying her.
The ponies have awoken earlier, and to their surprise Ayumu was flying at an incredible speed. Since Twilight and Rarity couldn't fly Rainbow had to carry the both of them, with a little help from a "light as a feather" spell that Twilight found the other day. Who would've thought that would come in handy?
"I'm trying Twilight! But I have to stay further behind so they won't notice us! And I can't believe this guy is as fast as me!" Rainbow exclaimed back at her. She was still in disbelief that this dragon who acts like he's never flown in his life was fast enough to keep up with her. I definitely gotta race this guy later! She thought with excitement. The three of them noticed some pegasi were starting to clear up further ahead.
"Looks like those pegasi clearing the clouds." Said Rainbow
"Perfect timing too. A little sunlight will do good for my mane." Rarity said on Rainbow's back. But below them Twilight got a nervous look when she realized something.
"Wait… Ayumu can't take sunlight! And he's not wearing the hood!"
Back with guys…
Ayumu and Spike above the migrating dragons and with almost half of the group behind them, Ayumu decided to slow down but Spike was still clinging to him.
"Ok Spike, you can ease the claws now. My injuries may heal but they still hurt."
The baby dragon snapped out of his daze and lessened the grip on Ayumu's back. "R-right, s-sorry. At least we caught up to the migration" Spike said as he looked up at the sky.
"Hey look! The sun's coming out!" he said as he was soaking in the rays
"Wait… Sun?!"
It was too late the intense sunlight was already rotting his skin, making him thinner and thinner.
"Spike! The hood! Where's the hood?!" Ayumu panicked.
"In my rucksack!"
Ayumu scrambled through Spike's sack to take out the hood, but he wouldn't be able to put it on with a passenger on his back.
"Hang on, I gotta make an emergency landing!"
Ayumu went as quick as could to the forest below them for some shade and noticed there was a river as well so he dived right in with Spike in tow.
"Are you ok, Ayumu?" Spike said looking in the water seeing the older dragon rehydrating as he hopped off his back
"Yeah…I'm fine. But that was close…" He assured as he put on his hood. Not going to take chances this time.
"So is this another zombie thing?"
"Yep. Zombies can't be out in direct sunlight for too long, or we start to rot. So I either have to stay inside during sunny days or go out completely covered. It's the real reason I was in the water when we met, when I got to this world my head hit a rock, since I'm a zombie, I survived but I got knocked out and I didn't come to until morning and the Sun was frying me." Explained Ayumu.
"Wait… that blood was yours?" Spike realized.
"Uh huh, sorry I didn't tell you sooner…"
"I understand. Now we better keep going if we don't wanna lose the migration again!" the baby dragon said walking ahead. Ayumu chuckled "I'm right behind ya kid." He said as he walked along with him. After a short while Spike was getting hungry.
"Aw man… I wish I packed more food…" He whined as he held his stomach.
"Well why didn't you?" Ayumu asked
"I… didn't think I would be walking for more than a day." Spike answered sheepishly. The teen couldn't help but sigh and stopped when he saw orange trees "Hey, you like oranges?" he said pointing at them.
"Yeah! Looks like we'll have food after all!" Spike cheered as he climbed a tree and picked an orange. "Want one Ayumu?"
"Nah it's ok Spike. You can have it." He assured.
"Are you sure? You're not hungry?" Spike asked concerned as he peeled the orange with his claws.
"Since I became a zombie I haven't felt hunger for almost two years. I only eat out of habit now, makes me feel like I'm still alive."
The baby dragon still cut a peeled piece of orange and gave it to Ayumu. "Well, if it makes you feel like you're alive have at least a piece. For me?" Spike asked nicely.
Ayumu, again didn't want to turn him down, so he took the piece and popped it in his mouth. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it! Let's take a few for the road before we head out, though!" Spike replied as he picked a couple more oranges to put in his rucksack.
Meanwhile…
Eu, Sera and Haruna were now flying over the mountains. Sera was carrying Haruna while Eu was holding Mysteltainn with her magic. A loud noise woke them up earlier (Ayumu taking off) so they decided to continue their search, but not before Eu asked Sera to teach her how to fly. After a few quick lessons, Eu was already getting the hand of flying, but since she was still a bit shaky at it, Sera thought they should go slowly until she got better. That and they wanted to keep their distance from the dragons that were still in the mountains. So you can probably guess why they were confused when the divining rods were pointing in the dragons' direction.
"That's weird… it's like he's following the dragons." Haruna said as she looked at the rods on top of her chainsaw pointing their direction. The bat-pony carrying her just shook her head.
"Just when I thought that maggot couldn't get any stupider. It's common knowledge that dragons breathe fire, why the hell would he take that risk? Even more so now that it's broad daylight." The vampire-ninja muttered.
Eu kept staring at the migration in confusion Heat is the only thing that can kill Ayumu for good. There must be an explanation on why he's going that way…
Later in the day with the guys…
Spike and Ayumu were walking for a pretty long time through the forest. They weren't sure for how long and the only thing entertaining them was telling stories to each other and having some oranges for snacks. Sometime after they passed a phoenix nest they noticed the dragons landing on some more mountains and volcanoes in front of them. Spikes eyes widened with excitement
"Ayumu! We're here!"
Ayumu got a big grin too and he high fived Spike. "We finally made it kid!" But then he noticed something weird…
"Where did these beards come from?" He asked as he pointed to the fake beards on both their faces.
Spike looked on his face to see he was right. "I have no idea!"
They both ripped the beards from their faces and Ayumu started running ahead "Race ya!"
"Hey, no fair! You got a head start!" Spike called out as he ran towards him.
The both of them were running up the mountain and after a little bit Spike tripped and slid back down the mountain. "Spike?" Ayumu said as he stopped to watch him go down.
The baby dragon stopped sliding and ran back up the mountain "I'm ok!" As they both resumed going up the mountain three certain ponies were watching from the clouds (the two non-pegasi were able to thanks to the cloud-walking spell Twilight casted earlier).
"Those other clouds aren't strong enough hold us and I bet someone's gonna notice one cloud different from the others." Rainbow explained to the two of them. Since she's weather captain she's trained to know these things.
"But how are we going go down there without causing suspicion?" Twilight asked
"Idea!~"Rarity chimed in as she took out more green fabric and some gemstones.
After awhile, Spike and Ayumu finally made it to the top. They looked in awe of all the dragons in front of them.
"Whoa…" they both said in unison.
As they looked on one of the dragons breathed fire towards them. Luckily they ducked behind a rock for safety. "Phew… that was WAY too close." Ayumu said in a slightly scared voice.
Spike took another look and he saw a group of dragons that were significantly smaller than the rest. "Hey look, teenage dragons! Now that's more our size, right Ayumu? Let's go!"
Spike was already running down the mountain with Ayumu close behind. Then suddenly a really bizarre looking, serpent-like dragon with tiny wings came up from the place they were at. But if you got a closer look it was really the ponies in disguise. Twilight up front, Rainbow in the middle and Rarity at the rear.
"Ugh. I'm telling ya, we'll never pass for a real dragon!" Rainbow complained
"Oh pish posh! This costume is fabulous! One of my finer creations!" Rarity retorted
"Shh! We'll never pass if they hear three voices coming out of one dragon! Now come on, let's go!" Twilight scolded as Rainbow below her tried to walk but it made them slide down the mountain.
Ayumu and Spike walked towards the group of teenage dragons who were apparently having a wrestling match.
"Um…excuse me." Spike greeted timidly. The other dragons turned to the two unfamiliar faces. "Um, hi. I'm Spike and this is Ayumu."
"Uh… hey." Ayumu greeted as nice as he possibly could.
The other dragons just looked at them funny for a bit until a lanky purple dragon spoke up as he looked down at Spike. "Y' sure your name's 'Spike' and not 'Shrimp'!" He teased as the rest of the group laughed.
"N-No! It's Spike! I mean I'm sure about that…" Spike tried to defend himself as Ayumu was already giving them one of his glares.
"You look more like a 'Peewee' to me." A large brown dragon said to Spike. While the other dragons laughed but a red dragon stopped them. "Guys, come on! Sheesh, leave him alone." He said as he made his way towards the two of them.
Ayumu's glare softened a bit Finally, some sensibility…
"He might fly away." He continued until he lifted up Spike by his tail. "That is… if he had any wings!"
Then the group continued laughing as he let go of Spike. Luckily Ayumu caught him before he hit the ground. Spoke to soon… he thought to himself as he sighed.
"Hey Amoomoo, did your little bro fly on your back during the migration?" the brown dragon asked as he gave Ayumu a rough pat on the back.
"First of all its 'Ayumu', secondly we're not related and thirdly this little guy pretty much walked most of the way." Ayumu replied in an annoyed tone. Spike couldn't help but smile as Ayumu was defending him.
"Nah, can't you see baby Spike just hatched? I bet he still sucks his claw at night!" the purple dragon laughed as he leaned against the brown one.
"No! I haven't sucked my claw in months!" that just made the teenage dragons laugh at him more.
"Dude!" Ayumu face palmed at what Spike just said.
The red dragon just gave a look at the both of them. "Well if you hadn't just hatched, how come we haven't seen ya around before? Or you either, hood boy?"
Ayumu gulped at the question, but then he remembered that Spike had a cover story for him.
"I travel a lot. Been to a lot of places, never really been around other dragons so when I saw the migration I thought I should check it out." Ayumu explained hoping they would buy it. He could tell Spike was also visibly nervous.
After a moment of silence, the red dragon grinned at him. "Cool! Name's Garble by the way. Here's Spear and Clump." The newly named Garble introduced the purple and brown dragons respectively.
"Fizzle." He motioned to another white dragon behind him.
"Baff." Pointing towards a grayish-green dragon.
"And Vex." Finally pointing to a chunky purple dragon.
"Nice to meet you… I guess." Ayumu replied.
Garble all of a sudden got to Spike's eye level. "What's your excuse?"
"Um, well you see… I live in Ponyville and-" Spike started to explain but was interrupted by Garble's laughter. "Ha! Ponyville?! That explains it! I knew there was something vaguely pony-ish about you!"
Then he got on all fours as he approached the baby dragon. "If I didn't know better I'd say you were part pony."
"Who, me? I'm not part pony, I'm all dragon! See?" Spike tried to prove it by roaring at Garble but it wasn't intimidating at all. In fact in was kind of cute.
"Or maybe you're a pony in a dragon costume." Mocked Garble as his crew laughed along.
"A pony in a dragon costume! Ha ha!" Spear laughed as he, ironically, leaned against the ponies in a dragon costume.
"Uh, yeah. Hilarious…" Twilight replied in a deeper voice to hide her identity.
"Hey, leave the kid alone! He's a dragon, so leave it that, alright?" Ayumu said getting into Garble's face with a very harsh glare.
"Ok, then. Let him prove it, if you're so confident." Garble replied
Spike came from behind Ayumu nervously. "How?"
"By acting like one. Who's up for a little fire belching contest!" Called out Garble.
Garble's gang cheered at the idea but Ayumu backed away to not be in the fire's path. First of the bat was Fizzle he gave a belch while releasing his blue fire breath. Next was Spear who did the same except his was green. Last was Clump who's fire was a normal color but it was incredibly large and had a lot of distance. It even singed the eyelashes of the ponies' costume.
"You think you can beat that Peewee?" Garble dared Spike as he gulped nervously.
Spike gave a small belch that unleashed a small green fire but a scroll also came along with it.
"Huh?" the other teenage dragons looked at it oddly as Garble picked it up. He mumbled as he read the scroll to himself and then laughed again "Hey guys! Spike's pen pals with a namby-pamby pony princess!"
Spike just cringed in embarrassment as they laughed at him. Ayumu looked at Spike with sympathy; he's been in embarrassing situations to many times to count. Mostly because of that stupid dress…
Garble crumbled up the scroll and tossed it over his shoulder into a lava pit. Twilight silently gasped "How could he just throw that away? That could've been something important!"
"We can't worry about that now Twilight. We're here to help Spike." Rainbow tired to reason.
"I know, I know. I just can't believe they disrespect Princess Celestia like that."
Spike just walked back to Ayumu with a disappointed look on his face. Ayumu just gave him a pat on the head. "I feel your pain, kid."
"Hey Ayumu! Your turn!" Garble called out to him.
"What? Me?" Ayumu asked in surprise.
"Yeah, you! Let's see what you got!" he answered.
Oh crap, I didn't even think about fire breathing! I haven't even tried it! Ayumu thought worriedly. Spike was also getting a worried expression, now that he knows Ayumu's weakness he's scared that he couldn't breathe fire and even if he could what if the fire hurts him?
Ayumu just stood there anxious, not sure of what to do. Eventually he settled for taking a deep breath and when he exhaled what came out was not fire but some sort of smoke. When everyone took a whiff of it, it smelled horrible. Not belching horrible, like someone burning a dead body horrible. The ponies had to cover their noses from the stench and the smoke even reached the adult dragons on the edge. Some of them looked at one accusingly.
"I know what you're thinking; it's not me this time."
"Well whatever it is, it's disgusting!"
"Let's get out of here!"
At that some of them flew off to a different part of the mountain to get away from the smell.
Meanwhile the teenage dragons were hacking and pinching their noses. "Dude, your breath smells like someone died!" Fizzle complained.
"You have no idea…" Ayumu whispered to himself. He went back to Spike who was also pinching his nose. "Well… I wasn't expecting that." The baby dragon said.
"Maybe because I'm a 'you-know-what', I can't breathe fire. I breathe that noxious gas." Ayumu whispered to him. Spike shrugged but he agreed that probably was the answer.
"Ok*cough*. That may not be fire, but it was still kinda cool. So we'll give you a pass, unlike Spike here." Garble said I between coughs. Spike just looked at feet disappointedly as Ayumu looked like he could care less on what the red dragon had to say.
"Maybe tail-wrestling's more your thing."
Again Spike gulped nervously, but Ayumu looked confident. Strength contests were easy for him. But why do I have a bad feeling about this….?
By the way you should about those other teenage dragons, only Garble's name is official, the others were fan made that I found while scavenging the net. Also the cloud walking spell was from "Sonic Rainboom" in season 1 but the light as a feather spell… I made it up! *squee*
