Chapter 14: Prehistoric Pokemon Problems!

Our group steadily trudged along the dirt path to the next town. Yesterday Serena had entered a Poke-Puff baking contest, and although she didn't win, we got to have the results, which were pretty damn good. And now we were just walking along, basking in the warm glow of the su-

BOOM!

My happy thoughts were interrupted by the sound of an explosion, and the sight of black smoke billowing off somewhere. "What was that!?" "Pika!?" Ash and Pikachu gasped.

"Maybe it was one of big brothers experiments?" Bonnie suggested.

"I'm standing right here you know." Clemont sighed sadly.

"Let's go check it out!" Liam declared, making us all run towards it.

What we found was a little camp, basically being a big orange tent and a table, surrounded by high tech gadgets and technology. Sitting at the table was a man with neat brown hair wearing a lab coat and glasses, he was completely blackened as a smouldering little gizmo sat in front of him. He sighed. "Not again..."

"Are you alright!?" Serena asked in concern as we ran up to him.

He wiped his glasses clean before looking at us. "Yes, the blast wasn't big, thankfully. And er...who are you?" We quickly made introductions. "Ah! Nice to meet you! My name is Ricky, I'm a scientist dealing with technology."

"I must say, you've got some very interesting looking inventions here." Clemont commented.

"Well, thank you! Most of them I've invented myself."

"Really? I happen to be an inventor as well!"

"Your serious? Perhaps you can show me one of yours?"

"I'd be happy too." And soon the two were talking happily about inventions.

"They get along like PB and J." "Froak." Me and my partner said with a half-lidded gaze.

"So, what was that explosion?" Ash asked.

Ricky rubbed the back of his head with a nervous smile. "Just another failed invention, all my smaller ones just seem to blow up."

"They really do have a lot in common..." "Luna..." Natalie said as Nightrise rolled her eyes.

"Hey! What's that one over there?" Liam pointed at a strange big cylinder with loads of screens around it.

"Oh, oh yes! This is a very important bit of technology." Ricky stood up and walked over to it, patting the side of it. "This is the Fossil Restoration Machine!"

"The WHAT!?" Me and Natalie yelled.

"Yes, I got permission to have a look at it from one of my colleagues in Cyllage City." He explained. "I'd just moved out here to do some field test work and when I was contacted about it I couldn't help but ask if it could be transported out here!"

"Ricky!" I yelled as me and Natalie got right up in his face, making him back off a little. "We've been looking for this thing! We have two fossils we want to revive!"

"Do you know how to work it!?" Natalie asked.

"Y-Yes! I was given instructions on how to." He stammered. "B-But I haven't properly tested it ye-"

"Do it now!" "Froak!" "Luna!" Us and our pokemon demanded.

Soon Natalie's Sail Fossil was in the machine as Ricky finished the preparations. "Alright, we should be ready to go!"

"To think we're about to see a real fossil restoration!" Clemont beamed with sparkles around his head.

"I can't wait to meet Amaura!" "Luna!" Natalie and Nightrise smiled.

"Ready? Here we go!" He pulled a lever and the machine whirred to life, lights flashing and beeping as the machine trembled a little from its job. After what seemed like ages the whirring and lights stopped, and the door opened, letting heavy smoke pour out. When the smoke did clear, standing there was not a fossil, but a sleeping Amaura.

"...Ama...?" The newly revived Amaura sleepily opened its eyes.

"It really worked!" Ricky and Clemont cheered.

"A new Amaura!" "Denne!" Bonnie and Dedenne sparkled.

"Fossil restoration is so cool!" "Pikachu!" Ash and Pikachu marvelled, and I had to agree with them.

Natalie walked up to the capsule, making the Amaura back up in slight fear. "Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you." Natalie spoke softly as she knelt down. "My name is Natalie, and this is Nightrise."

"Lunatone." Nightrise greeted it friendly.

The fear slowly left the Amaura's eyes, and it allowed itself to be cuddled by Natalie, as it was a little too big to pick up. "W-Wow, you really are cold." Natalie chuckled with a shiver.

"Amaura!" Said pokemon cried happily.

We all introduced ourselves to Natalie's new Amaura, as it greeted us back. "It's amazing to think this technology is possible." Ricky smiled.

Natalie looked at Amaura. "I'm sorry to wake you up after so long, but will you join my team?"

"Amaur! Amaura!" Amaura nodded as it nuzzled up to Natalie.

"That's great! Can I call you...Aurora?" Amaura nodded again before enthusiastically running around.

"She sure is hyper." Liam chuckled.

"But she's very kind as well." I noted.

"Aurora's actually my first Kalos pokemon." Natalie admitted. "Never thought it would be an extinct one!"

"That's life for ya." I joked.

"So, Elliot. How about we revive your fossil now?" Ricky offered.

"Yeah! Let's do it!" I nodded.

"FroaKIE!" Froakie agreed.

I got my fossil out of my bag and placed it inside the machine. It repeated the process with Aurora before opening again. "So...what pokemon is it?" Ash asked.

"I can't see through all the smoke." I coughed, trying to catch a glimpse of any moveme-

Something jumped out and bit onto my head! "Yeowch! Getitoffgetitoffgetitoff!" I tried to prize the pokemon off of my skull, but its jaws were locked tight.

"Froooooakie!" Froakie hit it with a Water Pulse that thankfully made it let go.

"Thanks Froakie." I sighed in relief as I rubbed my aching scalp, before turning to the attacker.

It was a Tyrunt, like Grant's. It stared up at me with vicious eyes. "...Hey there." My greeting was met with a fierce growl.

Froakie hopped over to it. "Froak. Froakie Fro-" He had to stop and hop away as the Tyrunt made a bite for it.

"Tyrunt!" It snapped at all of us.

"Meanie Tyrunt!" Bonnie pouted.

"Tyrunts are known for their tough behaviour." Ricky explained.

"But Grant's Tyrunt was so calm and obedient." Ash thought aloud.

"Ah yes, Grant's Tyrunt, my colleagues told me about that." He chuckled. "Apparently it took a whole week for it to get comfortable with Grant."

"A week!?" I gasped, looking at the Tyrunt, noticing its fierce look was getting bigger and bigger.

"Umm...it's getting angrier." Serena said nervously.

"Uh-oh, I think we're about to see a Tyrunt's infamous temper tantrum." Ricky gulped.

"And I think its gonna be bad..." Natalie said.

"TYRUUUUUUNT!" Tyrunt suddenly began running around, using Stomp and Crunch on every available piece of machinery.

We all duck and covered under the table as the Tyrunt continued its assault. "That temper tantrum's even worse then Bonnie's!" The litle girl glared at her brother on the comment.

Froakie, Pikachu, Nightrise and Aurora ran out from under the table and yelled at Tyrunt. Tyrunt glared over at them. "TyyyyRUUUUNT!" Suddenly rocks began appearing in the sky to fall on them.

"It's using Rock Slide!" Clemont shouted as the pokemon jumped out of the way.

Tyrunt glared at its opponents one by one, before roaring and jumping at Pikachu with a Stomp.

"PikaCHUUUU!" Pikachu launched a Thunderbolt that threw Tyrunt back.

"Amauuuuuur!" Aurora shot an Aurora Beam at Tyrunt, knocking it back onto its side.

"Ty!...TyRUUUUNT!" Tyrunt grunted in pain before getting up and throwing another Rock Slide at Aurora.

"Aaaaaamaura!" A silver ball of light appeared above Aurora that turned into a large boulder. It then threw the Ancientpower at the Rock Slide, the two cancelling each other out.

"Luuuuuunaaaaatooooone!" Nightrise took the opportunity to launch Stone Edge, hitting the Tyrunt yet again.

"Ty...r-r-runt..." Tyrunt struggled to its feet. "Tyyyyyyyy!" Tyrunt jumped at the Lunatone with a Crunch, but she just floated up to avoid it.

"It just doesn't want to give up!" Ash said.

"I think that's more to stubbornness." Natalie muttered, and that actually made me respect the Tyrunt a little more.

As it missed Aurora with a Stomp, some Frubbles hit the side of its face. The Rock/Dragon type angrily turned to Froakie. "Froak Fro..." Froakie smirked as he beckoned to Tyrunt tauntingly.

"TYYYYRUUUUUUNT!" Tyrunt charged at Froakie as its claws glowed green.

"What's that move?" Serena asked.

"That's Dragon Claw!" Clemont gasped.

However, as Tyrunt reached Froakie, my starter just placed a palm on its head, stopping it in its tracks. The Royal Heir pokemon growled angrily as it swiped again and again, but its stubby arms didn't even come close to hitting Froakie. Eventually it just flopped into the dirt.

"Looks like its used up all its strength." Ricky stated as we all climbed out and joined our pokemon.

"That Dragon Claw didn't work at all." Liam stated.

"I don't think a Tyrunt would be suitable for arm based attacks." Clemont noted, looking at Tyrunt's body.

I knelt down next to Tyrunt. "So, you have problems using Dragon Claw?" He snorted before turning away from me. "Would you like me to help you?" I offered. Tyrunt looked at me then at my hand, before getting up and walking away a distance before sitting down.

"Meanie!" "Denne!" Bonnie and Dedenne yelled at it.

"Tyrunt just needs some time to adjust and think." I said with Froakie nodded.

Eventually Tyrunt stood back up and walked over to me. "Tyrunt." He nodded.

"Alright then! I'm gonna help you perfect Dragon Claw!" I smiled.

OCXY

"Alright Tyrunt." I held a wooden log in front of me. "Use Dragon Claw again!"

"Tyyyyyrunt!" Tyrunt's claws glowed green and it charged, but once again it just couldn't reach past its big head.

"They've been at this for ages." Serena sighed.

"Why don't you teach Tyrunt a different move?" Liam suggested.

"I can tell Tyrunt really wants to perfect this move, and I'm going to help him!" I nodded. "Okay Tyrunt! Charge again!

"Tyruuuunt!" The results were the same.

"Not again..." "Pika..." Ash sighed.

Aurora walked over to Tyrunt. "Amaur..." She asked worriedly, but the other prehistoric pokemon just turned away.

"Your worried about Tyrunt, Aurora?" Natalie asked as she walked over.

"Amaura." The Ice/Rock type nodded, though Tyrunt just raised its head to give an annoyed look.

"This could be troublesome..." Ricky sighed.

Suddenly a huge cage was thrown on top of me, Froakie, Tyrunt, Natalie, Aurora and Nightrise! "Hey! What is this!?" I yelled.

"Two ancient pokemon in one catch!" A familiar voice rang out.

"And this time we'll get away with this snatch!" Another voice ran out.

"To protect the world from devestation."

"To unite all peoples within our-"

"YOU GUYS AGAIN!?" Natalie roared with flames of rage and red eyes. "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST GIVE UP!?"

"Why can't YOU just stop interrupting our motto!?" Jessie yelled pulling a childish face.

"We work hard on it you know!" James shouted.

"IT'S THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN!" Natalie raged, with Tyrunt nodding in approval.

Meowth jumped into view. "Whatever da case, we gotchu twerps now!"

"Team Rocket!" Ash yelled.

"Who?" Ricky asked no-one in particular.

"They're a group of thieves who steal peoples pokemon!" Clemont explained.

"That's right! And now we've got an Amaura AND a Tyrunt!" Jessie sneered.

"The boss will be pleased with two revived pokemon." James added.

"Oh yeah!? Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Ash commanded.

"Pikaaaaa!" Pikachu began charging electricity.

"Wait Ash!" Clemont stopped them. "You'll shock everyone inside the cage as well!"

"Froakie! Water Pulse!" I told him.

"FroooooaKIE!" Froakie threw it at the bars, but it did nothing!

"These bars are made of the top toughest Team Rocket material. None of your little poke powers will work on them." James said.

"Tyyyyyy!" Tyrunt ran up to the bars, tilted his head, and chewed through the bars like paper!

"HUH!?" All three goons gasped.

"Way to go Tyrunt!" I praised him as he ran through.

"Not so fast!" Meowth suddenly presssed a button, and the cage bloated out into a giant purple sphere, retrapping us all but Tyrunt. "I know all about that biting, so let's see ya bite this!"

"Tyrunt! Runt! Runt!" Tyrunt tried to bite into the sphere, but his jaw couldn't get a grip.

"Not so tough now, are you?" James taunted.

"One ancient pokemon will do, as well as the rest." Jessie said as their ballon, and our cage, began rising into the air.

"Stop!" Ash called in vain.

"Let us outta here!" Natalie shouted as she kicked at our confinement.

"Tyyyyyyruuuunt!" Suddenly large rocks began raining down on us, hitting the cord between the balloon and the cage and making us fall back yo earth with a crash. "Tyrunt!" Said pokemon ran up to the cage and once again tried to bite into it.

"Tyrunt!" I picked myself up from the bumpy landing and pressed my face against it. "Biting won't work on this thing! You have to try something else!"

"TyRUNT!" Tyrunt began using multiple Stomp attacks, but they didn't do a thing!

"Ugh..." I gritted my teeth.

"Froak! Froakie Froakie!" Froakie told me.

I nodded. "Tyrunt! I know you can do it! Use Dragon Claw!"

"Tyyyyyruuuuunt!" Tyrunt's arms just waggled about uselessly.

"Why you little-!" Jessie fumed as she got out a pokeball. "Pumpkaboo! Teach it a lesson!"

"Inkay! Make it a successful snatch day!" James shouted as he tossed a Poke-Ball.

"Pumpka!" "Inkay!" The two pokemon cried as they emerged.

"Pumpkaboo! Shadow Ball!" "Inkay, use Psybeam!"

"Puuuuuumpka!" "Inkay, Inkay!" The two pokemon fired their respective attacks which hit Tyrunt with a big explosion!

"Tyrunt!" I called out in horror. But as the smoke cleared, Tyrunt didn't look hurt, it looked MAD.

"TYYYYYYYYYRUUUUUUUNT!" Suddenly a green aura burst our of Tyrunt's arms, forming into three long sharp claws, each three times as long as Tyrunt's arms for each upper limb. "TYRUNT!" Tyrunt slashed through the cage like mere cloth, allowing us to break free.

"You did it, Tyrunt!" "Froakie!" Me and my partner cheered.

"Runt!" Tyrunt then turned to glare at Pumpkaboo and Inkay, who were now pretty damn scared. "TYRUUUUNT!" Tyrunt jumped up and slashed them, knocking them both back into the balloon, Tyrunt's green aura claws fading away.

"Alright Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" "Aurora! Use Aurora Beam!" "Tyrunt! Use Rock Slide!"

"Pikachuuuuu!" "Amaaaaauraaaaaa!" "Tyyyyyyyyruuuuuunt!" The three attacks hit with devastating results.

"No fair! It's that stupid big mouthed pokemons fault!" Jessie complained.

"I think we have one of our own..." James mumbled.

"Ya got that right." Meowth groaned.

"Woooooobuffet!" Even Wobuffet agreed.

"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" All three screamed as they vanished into the sky.

"Tyrunt! Your so cool!" "Froakiiiie!" Me and Froakie praised him.

"Tyrunt!" Suddenly Tyrunt jumped at me, knocking me to the ground. I thought he was gonna start biting, but instead he nuzzled against me affectionately.

"Looks like Tyrunt's taken a liking to you." Ricky chuckled.

"Awwww! Tyrunt's not a meanie after all!" Bonnie exclaimed.

"That was a pretty impressive Dragon Claw as well." Natalie nodded.

"Yeah, but it was really Tyrunt who did it all in the end." I looked down at him. "Tyrunt, do you wanna come with me on our journey.?"

"Runt!" Tyrunt hopped off of me and ran for a bit before turning and jumping up and down eagerly. "Tyrunt! Runt! Tyrunt!"

"Looks like your gonna have to prove your pack leader first." Ricky joked.

"Your on, Tyrunt! Froakie, are you up for it?" I looked at my partner.

"Fro!" He nodded.

"Then show 'em your spirit!" "Froakiiiiie!" Froakie jumped onto the field and sent a challenging glare at Tyrunt, who returned it.

"Froakie! Use Bubble!" "Froooooakie!" Froakie fired loads of energy bubbles, but Tyrunt just jumped to avoid them, soaring into the air.

'Right, Tyrunt's legs are really strong as well.' I thought. "Dodge Froakie!" Froakie jumped back just in time to avoid a Stomp, but Tyrunt jumped into the air again! "Tyrunt's not the only one with a good jump! Froakie! Use Water Pulse!"

"Frrrrrrroakie!" Froakie held a watery ord in his hand as he jumped up, he met Tyrunt's Stomp with a Force Palm style Water Pulse, and the two fell back down, barely landing on their feet.

"Tyyyyyrunt!" Tyrunt's fangs glowed white for a Crunch as it charged at Froakie.

"Confuse it with Quick Attack!" Froakie glowed white as he charged and bounced off of Tyrunt's head. Froakie did this repeatedly, evidently annoying Tyrunt before Froakie slammed into it, making it skid back.

Tyrunt glared at Froakie before throwing a Rock Slide at Froakie! "Jump off of them into the air!" Froakie wall jumped from rock to rock until he jumped into the air! "Now use Water Pulse!" Froakie threw it this time, but Tyrunt just ran forward to dodge it, homing in on a now grounded Froakie with another Crunch!

"Throw your Frubbles!" "Froakie!" Froakie threw Frubbles into Tyrunt's face, momentarily blinding it. "Now use Lick!" Froakie's tongue stretched out and smacked Tyrunt across the face before retreating back into the Water types mouth.

"TYYYYYRUNT!" Tyrunt roared as green aura claws were formed out from its arms, and it charged us.

"Froakie! Counter with Water Pulse!" "FROOOOOOAKIE!" Froakue generated a Water Pulse in each hand before running at Tyrunt.

The two pokemon jumped at each other and clashed. What was left of the camp shook fiercely as the impact spread out. When the dust finally cleared both pokemon were still standing...until Tyrunt collapsed with swirled eyes.

"Yes!" I cheered before getting out a pokeball. "Alright! Go pokeball!" I threw the ball and it sucked Tyrunt in in a red light.

"Froakie!" My partner cheered.

"Thank you for everything, Ricky." Natalie thanked the scientist.

"It was my pleasure." Ricky smiled. "Thouuuugh...I think I'm gonna send the machine back, too much trouble.

"Your telling me." Me and Natalie sighed.

"Thanks as well guys, looks like this is where we're gonna part for now." Liam shrugged.

"What? Your leaving?" Serena gasped.

"I'm gonna see if I can get an ancient pokemon myself!" He declared. "Elliot! Natalie! Let's battle again next time we meet! I'll use my new ancient pokemon!"

"Your on!" "Froakie!" "Tyrunt!"

"Alright then." "Luna." "Amaura."

"Take care you guys!" Ash waved to them both as we began walking.

"I hope we meet again Ricky!" Clemont called.

"I hope so indeed!" He called back.

"Your really nice actually Tyrunt!" "Nenne Nenne!" Bonnie and Dedenne squealed as Tyrunt nuzzled them.

"Yeah- he really i-AHHHH!" Clemont screamed as Tyrunt bit his hand.

"Guess Tyrunt only likes Elliot, Natalie and Bonnie." Ash said, trying to supress a giggle.

"Well, we'll just let him warm up to us." Serena suggested.

"Ready for an adventure you two?" I asked them.

"Tyrunt! "Amaura!"

"Right answer." Natalie grinned as we walked onwards.
