Tashigi's Heart: Reassigned

.

.

This wouldn't be all that terrible. Would it? I mean being an 'Ensign' for the Marines. It is a lot more responsibility, but that is what I wanted. Isn't it? I have been feeling very heavily ladened recently, and I am carrying a big burden on my shoulders one that will no doubt get me lots more enemies. I took down a Warlord? How do people buy into that?

It has been two months now, and I'm beginning to see the rhythm of things in the city-based countries. A few young and handsome men who don't have that much cash will often be the first to start off a glowing conversation with me, but will soon become bored when they see that I don't have the same opinions or beliefs as them, or will become so amazed at the fact that some women are not stereotypical that they will follow me around the place.

I never thought I'd become prey to money hunters or the desperate loners. It's so strange. I once craved this sort of attention, but now I've become adapt at hiding away into the shadows to avoid annoying confrontations, or climbing unnecessarily high buildings or trees to avoid being seen. It has made my life quite difficult.

I have always loved the idea of being promoted, but I feel like I'm cheating the system because I'm living a lie. This lie keeps me up at night! I dream about people finding out that it wasn't me or Smoker who took down Crocodile, and making us a public spectacle. Why? Why had this had to happen?

I don't get it?

I couldn't believe how long it took to get my check up results from the doctors, they had spent way to long hanging onto them. I wanted to move on and this place was starting to drag on me.

I had made myself promise that I would capture Zoro, and I will. That meant that I had to be at sea. I wanted to train my body to be as unbeatable as he had done.

I made my way through the busy halls at Marine Headquarters, and out onto the outside deck overlooking the harbour. I hope I get Reassigned soon.

"Oi Tashigi!" I recognized that voice and I knew what to expect next.

"Afternoon sir." I turned around to face my Captain... no I mean newly appointed Commodore Smoker.

"So. Are you going to step up, or stick around?" He said as he approached me.

Huh? "Excuse me?"

"I'm leaving for the Grand Line again in three days. Have you already been assigned to another Captain or not?"

"No, You want me back on your crew, but I thought I had done a really bad job."

"Foolish girl." He came right up to me and knocked the top of my head with his knuckles as if he were knocking on the door of an empty closet.

"Oi! Stop it!"

"You'll do fine." He held up a list of names and handed them to me. "Fill in your name and then hand it in."

Wow! This was really it. We were finally leaving. I wrote in my name eagerly as the thought of being at sea again made my heart soar.

"Don't forget." Smoker muttered as I started to walk away. I stopped and pondered that for a second, then turned back round.

"Forget what?" Had he just asked me to do something?

There was a small pause, and Smoker added. "You promised to buy me a new batch for my promotion." he said patting the string of cigars that lined his jacket.

"I did not!" How dare he? I never said such a thing.

"You sure?" he stepped up closer to me and breathed out his defiled air.

"I'm sure." I refuse to cough on his second hand smoke. I poked his chest in frustration. "but if you would like a gift of cigars to celebrate your new title, then ask nicely and I'll get you some."

"You are the best second in command I've had."

"Um thank you, but that doesn't really qualify as a question."

"I know you want to get me some, so you have my permission."

"Smoker!" I stopped as I realized how informal I was being. "Sir, you can't speak to me like this, it isn't proper." I turned back. I needed to hand in the documents of my new assignment.

"So I'll be expecting you tomorrow with a new box." Smoker called back after me. I sighed as I walked away.

Why are men so confusing?

Today is a good day!

Soon we leave this place!

Soon we set sail.

author note. (Not from Tashigi's Diary.) v

Somewhere in the Alabasta kingdom a group of ragged wanderers in long cloaks walked about a busy town. The townspeople were busy fixing up their streets and praying for their lost ones, but the overall feeling in this town was not of bitter grief and hate, but of joy and relief. For their town had been saved from the evil clutches of their supposedly wonderful hero.

The small group made their way in a tavern and ordered drinks to quench their thirst.

"So, it's true the navy really did take down Crocodile."

"Yeah, I heard it was the Captain Smoker of the Marines." said another with blonde hair. "He is called the White Chaser."

"To think we organized so many troupes to come into the Capital, only to find it saved by the blasted Marines." Muttered another.

"It must have been a terrible fight." Muttered a tall young man. He held his beer with one hand and the other rested on the hilt of his sword. "Wish I had been here to see it."

"AI!" All heads turned around to see the bartender approaching their table. "It was an awful fight, but it wasn't just the Marines that aided us from the schemes of Crocodile. There were a group of Pirates lead by a boy with a straw hat. I heard it was him that finished off the Warlord."

The boy with blond hair stood up from the table, and pulled out a sheet of paper from somewhere. "Is this him sir?"

"Aye it is." He nodded his head. "The Marines spent days looking for the pirates afterwards, but it was said that many people thought the Princess Vivi was in love with him, and her father offered him protection from the Marines." He nodded as he passed on this very serious information. "It makes a lot of sense when you listen back to her coming out speech. Poor girl, you should never fall in love with a pirate."

"What of his crew?" the dark-haired fellow spoke up. "Surely he didn't fight alone."

"No, they say his crew were like unbeatable demons from hell." the bar man grunted. "But word is going around that he also has the legendary Pirate hunter Roronoa Zoro on his crew. And if that is indeed the case it would appear that they might not really be real pirates, but bounty hunters looking out for other pirates to destroy. That's the word going around anyway."

"Roronoa Zoro?" The tall man pushed back his hood and looked on in interest. "What was he supposed to have done here."

"Well they said he might have defeated Crocodile's right hand man Mr 1. People have been saying that all of the top mysterious Baroque agents had devil fruit powers and Mr 1. was supposed to be like a machine, as in he seemed to be made out of metal. But the bounty hunter Roronoa Zoro cut through him."

"Interesting."

"Ikanu? Why are you always interested in hearing about swordsmen, it's not as if you can fight every one."

"No, but I'm still interested." Ikanu looked back to his young friend from across the table. "And what had you so worked up with that guy?" he said nodding towards the wanted poster still on the table.

"Well," the young blonde started but then stopped. "It's nothing. I'll tell you some other time." he stood up and went to the bar to order another round.
