The Newest Princess - a Sofia the First fanfic

The Newest Princess (Chapter 2)

Notes: this is a story set in the future during Sofia and Lucinda's young teenage years, and takes place between Chapter 1 of "The Newest Princess" and Chapter 1 of "Sisters". I want to thank jakevoronkov1 for suggesting the idea of setting a story in Merroway Cove, which evolved into Chapter 2 of "The Newest Princess".

Taking a vacation

It had been early summer when 14-year-old Lucinda lost her parents. It was now August. In September, a 14-year-old Sofia, a 15-year-old Amber, and a 15-year-old James would start going back to school at Royal Prep after summer break. At that same time, Lucinda would start going to school at Royal Prep.

Early the first week of August, King Roland gathered the royal family together in his study at Enchancia Castle.

"Because of Lucinda's recent loss, and because of the unfortunate events surrounding Cedric, I think we should take a vacation to recharge ourselves as it were" Roland started. "Therefore, I think we should spend some time on The Floating Palace and travel to ... Merroway Cove".

"Brilliant!" James exclaimed with glee.

"Wonderful!" Amber said with delight.

"Your going to love Merroway Cove, Lucinda" Sofia smiled at Lucinda. "It's where the mermaids live".

"Mermaids?" Lucinda asked.

"Yes, Lucinda" Queen Miranda smiled.

Sofia had recently introduced Lucinda to the castle trolls, and now a vacation to a place where mermaids live. For Lucinda, being a Princess was rapidly becoming an interesting new life.

In a few days, items the royal family needed were packed and sent to The Floating Palace. A day after that, the royal family boarded a carriage and traveled to the port where The Floating Palace was docked. As the carriage pulled up next to The Floating Palace, Lucinda was in awe - she had never seen such a grand ship before.

The royal family climbed off the carriage, and walked aboard The Floating Palace. An older white haired gentlemen greeted them - the man was Admiral Hornpipe.

"Welcome aboard, your majesties" Hornpipe greeted.

"Thank you, Admiral Hornpipe" Roland smiled as he brought Lucinda forward. "This is the newest member of our family - Princess Lucinda".

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Princess Lucinda" Hornpipe smiled as he bowed.

"The pleasure is mine, Admiral" Lucinda smiled. While Lucinda had yet to begin her royal training at Royal Prep, she had started picking up some royal mannerisms from observing royal life at the castle.

"Your rooms are ready, your majesties" Baileywick announced as he walked up.

"Very good, Baileywick" Roland smiled.

As the rest of the royal family walked toward their rooms, Sofia gave Lucinda a quick tour of The Floating Palace. Sofia showed Lucinda, among other things, the sitting room, the ship's sorcery workshop (which was now theirs), and the swimming platform.

As Sofia and Lucinda were walking to their rooms, they came across Baileywick. Even though The Floating Palace was still docked, Baileywick was already looking a bit sea sick.

"Are you alright, Baileywick?" Lucinda asked in concern.

"I'll be fine, Lucinda" Baileywick replied. "I'm just not much of a sea person".

Baileywick went back to his duties as Sofia and Lucinda walked to their rooms.

"Poor Baileywick" Sofia commented. "He always gets so sea sick ..."

Lucinda thought for a moment. "I brought some of my birth parents spell books with me" Lucinda started. "I think there is something in one of them that might help Baileywick".

On the water

The Floating Palace had left dock an hour ago. In the ship's sorcery workshop, Sofia was waiting for Lucinda to arrive. As Sofia was waiting, she accidentally bumped again a pile of books that had been sitting on a table. The top book fell onto the floor. Sofia reached down and picked up the book. Upon picking up the book, she recognized it as one of Cedric's old books.

Sofia saw there was a bookmark in the book. She opened the book to where the bookmark was, and read the title of the page: The Mermaid Comb of Merroway Cove.

A sickening thought went through Sofia's mind. "Dear God!" Sofia thought. "Was it Cee-drick who tried to steal Oona's comb?".

At that moment, Lucinda entered the ship's sorcery workshop.

"Sofia?" Lucinda asked. "You okay?".

"Yes" Sofia said with a dazed look. "I think I just stumbled across one of Cee-drick's old plans". Sofia then told Lucinda about the sea monster that had been after Oona's comb when Sofia and Oona were children.

Lucinda came over to Sofia, and put her arm around Sofia's shoulder.

"It looks like we both lost people we loved this summer" Lucinda gently said. "I lost my parents ... and you lost somebody you thought was a friend".

Lucinda and Sofia hugged for a few moments, then got down to business.

"I was able to find a sea sickness cure in one of my birth parents spell books" Lucinda started. "And I found some strawberries in the ship's kitchen that we can use as a flavoring agent".

"Good" Sofia smiled.

Lucinda searched through the ship's sorcery workshop, and discovered all the ingredients she needed. Lucinda then found a small cauldron, and started cooking up the ingredients. In a little while, the ingredients had been cooked. Sofia brought over a funnel and two empty wine bottles, and Lucinda poured what had been cooked in the small cauldron into the two bottles.

"Finished" Lucinda smiled as she picked up a drinking cup. "Let's go find Baileywick".

The two left the ship's sorcery workshop, and in a little bit found Baileywick on one side of the ship, leaning against the rail. He didn't look well.

"Baileywick" Sofia smiled.

"Yes, Sofia?" Baileywick tried to smile while fighting off sea sickness.

"Lucinda has something for you" Sofia answered.

Lucinda walked up to Baileywick, opened one of the bottles, and poured half a cup of what was in the bottle into the drinking cup. She then handed the drinking cup to Baileywick.

"This will help you fight off your sea sickness" Lucinda smiled as she handed Baileywick the drinking cup. "Drink a half cup of this every day your on the water".

Baileywick took the drinking cup from Lucinda, and drank it.

"Strawberries" Baileywick observed. "Delicious".

Within two minutes, what Baileywick had drunk started working, and Baileywick soon felt much better.

"Thank you, Lucinda" Baileywick smiled. "I am in your debt".

Lucinda hugged Baileywick. He had always been kind to Lucinda, and it was a pleasure for Lucinda to be able to do something for Baileywick in return. Sofia smiled at the touching scene.

Arriving at Merroway Cove

Early the next morning, The Floating Palace arrived at Merroway Cove. After breakfast, Sofia took Lucinda to the swimming platform. Sofia looked around to see if anybody was around. There was nobody. Sofia then looked at Lucinda.

"I have a secret to tell you" Sofia said.

"What?" Lucinda asked, interested.

"Well ... my amulet lets me transform into a mermaid" Sofia answered.

"Cool!" Lucinda smiled.

"If you don't mind, I think I'll transform and go down to make a quick visit to the mermaid colony" Sofia said. "Is there any way you could transform, too? Perhaps a spell? I'd love it if we could go together".

"Actually, I have a surprise for you" Lucinda smiled. "As a Witch, I can transform into any creature".

"I guess we're both full of surprises" Sofia smiled.

"It's just that ... I don't want people knowing I can do that" Lucinda said. "I don't want to freak people out".

"I can understand that" Sofia said as she put her hand on Lucinda's hand. "That's pretty much the same reason why I haven't told anybody about my ability to transform into a mermaid".

"This will be our secret" Lucinda smiled.

"Deal!" Sofia smiled.

Sofia and Lucinda looked around to see if anybody was around. Nobody was around. Sofia sat down with her legs hanging off the side of the ship. Sofia's amulet started to glow, and her transformation began. However, since Sofia was now a teenager, the transformation was now different than it had been when she was a child. Sofia's legs transformed into a dark purple tail, and Sofia's chest area now became covered by a dark purple shell bra. Sofia's tiara then transformed into a mermaid tiara.

Lucinda then sat down with her legs hanging off the side of the ship. Lucinda concentrated, and her transformation began. Lucinda's legs transformed into a dark blue tail, and Lucinda's chest area became covered by a dark blue shell bra. Lucinda's tiara then transformed into a mermaid tiara.

"Lets go" Sofia smiled.

Sofia and Lucinda jumped off the side of the ship, and the two dived under the water. Sofia led the way as she and Lucinda swam down toward the mermaid colony. In a little bit, Sofia and Lucinda were in sight of the colony.

"Impressive!" Lucinda exclaimed in awe.

Sofia and Lucinda then entered the colony and swam up to where Queen Emmaline, a 14-year-old Princess Oona, and a 21-year-old Princess Cora were sitting.

"Sofia!" Oona exclaimed in joy.

"Oona!" Sofia exclaimed in joy.

Sofia and Oona hugged, while Queen Emmaline, Cora, and Lucinda looked on and smiled.

"Welcome back, Sofia" Queen Emmaline smiled. "Who is your friend?"

"Queen Emmaline" Sofia started, "this is the newest member of my family - Lucinda".

"The same Lucinda you told us about when you visited as a child?" Emmaline asked.

"The same" Sofia smiled.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Queen Emmaline" Lucinda smiled.

"The pleasure is mine" Emmaline smiled. "Your now a member of the royal family?"

"Yes" Lucinda answered. "When a mysterious illness spread across the land earlier this summer, my parents died from it. Since I had no other family members, King Roland and Queen Miranda adopted me, and made me part of the royal family".

"I see" Emmaline said. "I am sorry for your loss".

"Thank you, Queen Emmaline" Lucinda said.

Emmaline then motioned for a mermaid to come over. The mermaid was beautiful, with dark brown hair, a dark orange tail, and wearing a dark orange shell bra.

"Sofia, Lucinda" Emmaline started. "This is Dreena, advisor to Oona and Cora".

"A pleasure to meet you, Dreena" Sofia smiled.

"It's nice to meet you, Dreena" Lucinda smiled as she extended her hand in a gesture of friendship.

Lucinda and Dreena shook hands. As they shook hands, Lucinda felt something from Dreena for a split second - a dark, threatening feeling. The feeling quickly passed, but not before Dreena realized that Lucinda had picked up on it.

Everybody then started talking, having a pleasant time in the process. As Emmaline, Sofia, Oona, and Dreena were talking, a male merperson came up beside Lucinda. It was Plank, advisor to Queen Emmaline.

"Hello" Plank greeted Lucinda. "I am Plank, royal advisor to Queen Emmaline".

"Nice to meet you, Plank" Lucinda smiled. "I am Princess Lucinda. You may call me Lucinda".

"It is nice to meet you, Lucinda" Plank responded. "May I speak to you in private?"

"Of course" Lucinda said.

As Lucinda and Plank swam off, Dreena saw them out of the corner of her eye.

"What are you up to, Lucinda Magwin?" Dreena thought to herself.

After swimming a distance away, Lucinda and Plank stopped.

"You seem like somebody I can trust" Plank said to Lucinda. "There is something I would like to discuss with you".

"Go ahead" Lucinda smiled.

"I couldn't help but notice that when you and Dreena shook hands, you seemed to pick up on something" Plank observed.

"It was probably nothing" Lucinda started. "Just a feeling ..."

"... a feeling of darkness?" Plank asked. "A dark, threatening feeling?"

"Yes" Lucinda answered.

"I've felt it from her, too" Plank said. "Dreena showed up about two months ago. Before I knew it, Dreena and Queen Emmaline were acting like long lost friends. I know about the Queen's past, and she had never mentioned Dreena to me before. And, before I knew it, the Queen appointed Dreena as advisor to Princess Oona and Princess Cora. It happened much too fast - faster than normal".

"I don't know what to tell you" Lucinda said, wanting to stay out of mermaid politics.

"I take my position as royal advisor to Queen Emmaline very seriously" Plank started. "I want what is best for her, and to protect her, Oona, and Cora from harm. And there is something about Dreena that I can't shake, like she is up to something. I don't usually ask for help, but I need to now. Please, what can you tell me?"

Lucinda could see that Plank was seriously concerned.

"Very well" Lucinda said. "All I can tell you is that when I shook her hand, I got the feeling like she was trying to hide something, and that I was the last person she expected to see here. That is the sense I got from Dreena, along with that dark, threatening feeling".

"What can we do?" Plank asked.

"Just keep an eye on the situation" Lucinda suggested. "That's all we can really do right now".

That afternoon

At Queen Emmaline's request, Plank had made contact with King Roland, and had arranged a get together between those who lived in Merroway Cove and the royal family. That afternoon, the get together was in full swing, taking place on and around the swimming platform of The Floating Palace.

Sofia and Lucinda had returned to the ship by that time, and had assumed their human forms. Lucinda had filled Sofia in on Plank's concerns. Sofia and Lucinda then agreed to keep an eye on the situation, but to keep it between themselves and Plank for the time being.

As the afternoon progressed, everybody had an enjoyable time. Emmaline, Miranda, and Roland sat down enjoying tea and having a pleasant conversation. Amber and Cora sat down on the swimming platform talking to each other. Sofia and Oona were also sitting on the swimming platform, having a pleasant conversation. Meanwhile, James was in the water swimming with some of the mermaids.

Lucinda decided that this might be a good opportunity to walk over to Dreena and try to get to know Dreena better. Dreena saw Lucinda approaching.

"What does she want?!" Dreena thought to herself.

"Dreena?" Lucinda started. "We met this morning".

"Yes" Dreena managed to smile. "Your Princess Lucinda".

"I was wondering if you would like some company?" Lucinda asked.

"That would be nice" Dreena smiled.

Dreena and Lucinda then spent some time having what appeared to be a pleasant conversation. Dreena talked about her duties as advisor to Princess Oona and Princess Cora. Lucinda talked about how she had become a Princess, and what her duties were.

"If she's up to something" Lucinda thought about Dreena, "she's certainty hiding it well".

That evening

It was now evening in Merroway Cove. Those living in Merroway Cove had returned under the water for the night.

At the mermaid colony, Dreena made sure that Princess Oona and Princess Cora had gone to bed for the night. Then, Dreena quietly slipped away from the colony and swam to the surface. When she reached the surface, Dreena stood up in the water and transformed into a human woman with legs. Dreena then walked up onto the shore, and looked around.

"My mistress" Dreena called out. "I need to speak to you".

Another woman appeared from the trees which were near the shore.

"What do you need, Dreena?" the woman asked.

"We have a problem" Dreena started. "Lucinda Magwin is here, and she's now a Princess of Enchancia".

"What?!" the woman snapped at Dreena. "Tell me everything!"

"Yes, my mistress Neila" Dreena responded.

The woman that Dreena was addressing was Neila, the most evil Witch of all evil Witches who ever lived. Neila was the kind of evil Witch who gave other evil Witches a good name.

"Lucinda's parents died of a mysterious illness earlier this summer" Dreena started. "When that happened, King Roland and Queen Miranda adopted her, and made her part of the Enchancian royal family. She is now Princess Lucinda. Her and her new family are on that large ship docked in Merroway Cove".

"Interesting" Neila started. "So Lucinda Magwin is now a Princess. When her and her parents escaped from me a few years ago, I thought I had seen the last of them. And now, Lucinda shows up out of the blue".

"There's more" Dreena reported.

"Speak!" Neila demanded.

"Lucinda, and her new sister, Sofia, are now the Official Royal Sorceresses of Enchancia" Dreena said.

"And what of Cedric?" Neila asked.

"He was found out when he tried to hatch a plan to take over the kingdom" Dreena answered. "He got sent to Azkaban for his trouble".

"I always knew Cedric would get himself found out one day" Neila said. "His stupidity is why I never even considered taking him on as a follower".

Neila thought for a moment, then continued. "Does Lucinda suspect you of anything?" Neila asked.

"She may have a feeling that I'm not what what I claim to be" Dreena answered. "But she hasn't discovered I'm a Witch".

"Be careful, Dreena" Neila warned. "Lucinda is quite the powerful young Witch, a prodigy in fact. We may need to move up our plans to steal Oona's comb".

"Understood, my mistress" Dreena responded.

"Is the memory spell you put on Queen Emmaline still working?" Neila asked.

"Yes" Dreena answered. "Thanks to the spell, she believes I'm an old friend from her past".

"Good" Neila responded. "Meet me back here in two night's time. And be careful around Lucinda. If she suspects your a Witch, she'll start interfering".

"Yes, my mistress" Dreena acknowledged.

Dreena then walked away from the shore, and entered the water. As Dreena entered the water, she transformed back into a mermaid and swam back toward the colony. Neila, on shore, brought her wand out, waved it over her head, and disappeared.

Unknown to Dreena and Neila, somebody had seen and heard their conversation - Sven, the sea horse.

"Oh, no!" Sven exclaimed. "They are after Oona's comb! I need help - magical help!". Sven then swam as fast as he could toward The Floating Palace.

A frightening revelation

On The Floating Palace, most of the royal family were asleep. Sofia and Lucinda, however, were standing on deck taking in the night view of Merroway Cove. At that point, Sven swam up, and noticed Sofia.

"Sofia!" Sven yelled.

Sofia and Lucinda ran down to where Sven was.

"What's going on?" Sofia asked Sven.

"I followed Dreena, on Plank's orders" Sven started. "She's a Witch! And she's working with another Witch to steal Oona's comb!"

"Oona's comb is very powerful" Sofia said to Lucinda. "It allows the user to harness the power of the ocean".

"Sven" Lucinda started. "This is important! The other Witch - were you able to find out her name?"

"Yes" Sven replied. "Her name is Neila!".

"No!" Lucinda exclaimed in fright. "No! No! No! No! No!"

"What is it, Lucinda?" Sofia asked, concerned.

"Not Neila!" Lucinda exclaimed again in fright. "She's the worst of the worst!".

Sofia rushed over to Lucinda. Sofia had never seen Lucinda this frightened before. Lucinda was shaking like a leaf.

"Lucinda!" Sofia exclaimed in concern.

Lucinda found enough inner strength to slap herself in the face. Sofia was taken totally off guard by Lucinda's action.

"Come on, girl!" Lucinda said to herself. "Get it together! People are counting on you!"

"What's going on?" Sofia asked in a very concerned tone of voice.

"Neila is a very evil witch" Lucinda started. "She's looking to take over ... everything. And, over the years, she's gathered followers who will help her. She's very powerful!"

"Your frightened of her, aren't you?" Sofia asked as she hugged Lucinda.

"Yes" Lucinda said, shaking. "She's powerful, and ruthless! She's killed entire families simply for refusing to follow her".

"You sound like you have personal experience with her, Lucinda" Sofia said.

"I do" Lucinda said. "One night, Neila and her followers came to the Village of Wendarby, and came to the estate where my parents and I lived. She wanted the three of us to become followers of hers. You just didn't say no to Neila. So, we left with her. We waited for an opportunity to escape. One night, when everybody was asleep, we snuck away. For a few months afterward, we were on the run, always looking over our shoulders. After a few months, it became obvious we had lost her. We came across the Village of Dunwitty, and settled there. You and I met each other a few months after that".

"Oona's in trouble!" Sven shouted. "We have to do something!"

Lucinda pulled out her wand. "We will do something, Sven!" Lucinda said. "We're going down there and stop Dreena!"

Sofia and Lucinda quickly went down to the swimming platform, transformed into mermaids, and dove off the ship and headed underwater. Sven followed close behind.

Challenging Dreena

Sofia, Lucinda, and Sven soon arrived at the colony. Plank saw them arrive, and went out to meet them.

"What's going on?" Plank asked.

"Sven found out that Dreena is an evil Witch!" Lucinda answered. "And she's working with another evil Witch. They want to steal Oona's comb!"

"We must get to Oona - now!" Plank exclaimed.

As Plank, Sofia, Lucinda, and Sven swam toward where Oona was, Queen Emmaline swam out in front of them.

"Plank? Sven? Sofia? Lucinda?" Emmaline asked. "What is going on here?"

"Queen Emmaline" Plank started. "We've discovered that Dreena is an evil Witch, and she's after Oona's comb!".

"That's ridiculous!" Emmaline exclaimed. "I've known Dreena since we were children!"

Sofia and Lucinda looked past Emmaline, and could see Dreena floating behind Emmaline. Dreena was holding a wand, and was pointing it toward Emmaline, using a mind control spell. Sofia and Lucinda tried to swim around Emmaline, but Emmaline stopped them.

"You will go no further!" Emmaline snapped at Sofia and Lucinda as Dreena increased the power of the spell.

"Your being controlled, Queen Emmaline!" Sofia exclaimed.

"Nonsense!" Emmaline snapped.

Meanwhile, Oona and Cora had been woke up by the commotion, and had managed to swim behind Dreena without Dreena knowing it. Oona and Cora had overheard the exchange between everybody gathered, and the two also saw Dreena pointing a wand at Emmaline.

"I've never lied to you!" Sofia pleaded. "Please, believe me now!"

"You will be executed for such treachery!" Emmaline shouted.

Suddenly, Oona and Cora swam up to Dreena, and started to wrestle with Dreena. As Oona, Cora, and Dreena wrestled, Dreena lost her concentration, and her control over Emmaline was broken.

"What's happening?" Emmaline asked as Sofia and Lucinda swam to help Cora.

"It's alright, Queen Emmaline" Plank said as he held Emmaline.

Oona, Cora, Sofia, and Lucinda managed to disarm Dreena. Suddenly, a mermaid with a dark green tail, and wearing a dark green shell bra, appeared. It was Neila in mermaid form. Neila pointed her wand at Dreena, and Dreena disappeared. Neila then looked at Sofia and Lucinda.

"There will be payment for your interference!" Neila shouted at Sofia and Lucinda as Neila looked up at The Floating Palace. Neila then waved her wand above her head, and disappeared.

"We've got to get up there!" Lucinda said to Sofia in alarm.

Defending The Floating Palace

Lucinda and Sofia quickly swam to the surface. Soon, they were at The Floating Palace. The two climbed aboard the swimming platform, and transformed into their human forms. The two then pulled out their wands. It wasn't long before Neila appeared overhead, laughing wildly.

"I shall have my revenge on you!" Neila shouted at Sofia and Lucinda.

"By our authority as Official Royal Sorceresses of Enchancia, we order you to cease and desist immediately!" Sofia shouted at Neila.

"I don't take orders from anybody!" Neila sneered at Sofia and Lucinda.

"Fire!" Sofia shouted. Sofia and Lucinda then started firing their wands at Neila.

"Ooh! That tickles!" Neila mocked as she put up a magical force field.

In the water, Oona and Cora had swam to the surface, and saw what was going on.

"Oona" Cora started. "Remember what I taught you?".

"Yes, Cora" Oona replied. Oona then removed her comb. "Water - rise at my command!" Oona shouted. A powerful, continuous blast of water hit Neila as Sofia and Lucinda stopped firing. Neila was taken off guard, but managed to hold her position.

"Fire, Sofia!" Lucinda shouted. Lucinda and Sofia fired their wands again at Neila, hitting Neila with two continuous beams of magical energy. Neila managed to hold her own, but was starting to slowly weaken. Then, another beam of energy hit Neila - from Queen Emmaline's trident.

Between Oona's water blast, wand fire from Sofia and Lucinda, and the blast from Emmaline's trident, Neila was forced to withdraw. Neila waved her wand above her head, and disappeared. Oona, Sofia, Lucinda, and Emmaline then stopped firing.

Neila then appeared in the sky a few feet away, and looked at Lucinda.

"I will be back one day, Princess Lucinda!" Neila shouted. "You can count on that!". Neila then disappeared.

The next morning

On the swimming platform of The Floating Palace, the royal family was gathered. Sofia and Lucinda had told them about Neila, and her plan to take Oona's comb. Sofia and Lucinda, however, left out the fact they they could transform into mermaids - they thought the royal family might not be ready to hear about such a power.

On the surface of the water, Oona, Cora, and Sven appeared. Behind them, two rows of merpeople appeared. Then, Queen Emmaline appeared.

Sofia and Lucinda were wearing one piece swimsuits. As Queen Emmaline, Oona, and Cora moved close to The Floating Palace, Sofia and Lucinda went into the water and approached Emmaline, Oona, and Cora.

"I am so very sorry that some of my kind caused you and yours trouble" Lucinda quietly said to Emmaline. "I can only tell you that not all of us are like that. I am very sorry, and very ashamed, over the actions of some of my kind".

"You cannot be held responsible for the evil actions of others" Emmaline said as she hugged Lucinda in a comforting way. Queen Miranda smiled at the touching scene.

Later that morning, aboard The Floating Palace, Lucinda was in her room when she heard a knock at the door.

"Come in" Lucinda invited.

The door opened, and in walked Queen Miranda.

"Mom" Lucinda smiled. "What can I do for you?"

"I just thought it would be nice if we had a talk" Miranda smiled.

Lucinda offered Miranda a chair. When Miranda sat down, Lucinda pulled out another chair and sat down herself.

"First of all" Miranda started, "I want to say how proud I am of you and Sofia. Last night, the two of you were very brave when standing up to Neila. I've never seen such bravery before".

"Tell you the truth, Mom" Lucinda started, "I was scared inside. I never thought I would see Neila again, let alone face her in battle".

"Sofia told me about your history with Neila" Miranda gently said. "I imagine it must have been frightening for you facing Neila".

"It was" Lucinda answered. "It took everything I had to get past that fear".

"And you did well" Miranda smiled.

Lucinda smiled at Miranda.

"Lucinda" Miranda started. "It's only been a short time since you lost your parents. How are you holding up?"

"Okay, I guess" Lucinda answered. "There are some times when I still find myself grieving".

"That's to be expected" Miranda gently said as she put her hand on Lucinda's hand.

"I would like to say that I consider myself blessed to be a part of this wonderful family" Lucinda said. "I love all of you very much".

Miranda got up and hugged Lucinda. "We love you too" Miranda smiled. "And I'm very proud to have you as a daughter".

"And I'm very proud to have you as a mother" Lucinda smiled back.

The Floating Palace stayed in Merroway Cove for a week, and a good time was had by all. At one point, Oona, Cora, and Sofia took Lucinda on a tour of Merroway Cove, which Lucinda enjoyed very much.

Back at the castle

The royal family was now back at Enchancia Castle, having returned from their vacation at Merroway Cove. At the castle, in Lucinda's room, Lucinda and Sofia were having a pleasant conversation.

"I loved meeting Queen Emmaline, Oona, Cora, Plank, and Sven" Lucinda smiled.

"It was nice seeing them again" Sofia smiled back.

At that point, Lucinda and Sofia heard a knock at Lucinda's door.

"Come in" Lucinda invited.

The door opened, and Queen Miranda walked in.

"Baileywick told me the two of you were in here" Miranda smiled. "I have some news".

"What, Mom?" Sofia asked.

"I just received a message from Lydia" Miranda started. "She'll be coming for a visit next week".

Sofia's eyes lit up.

"Lydia?" Lucinda asked.

"My eldest daughter" Miranda answered with a smile.

"You'll love her" Sofia said to Lucinda. "She's the Official Royal Sorceress for the Kingdom of Lacorinth".

"I'll let you two get back to your conversation" Miranda said as she walked out of the room.

"It's going to be so good seeing Lydia and Eezeyal again" Sofia smiled.

"Who's Eezeyal?" Lucinda asked.

"Eezeyal is Lydia's owl" Sofia answered. "The two of them became friends when Lydia was in sorcery school".

"I look forward to meeting them" Lucinda smiled.

"They are going to love you, Lucinda" Sofia said with a smile on her face. "Oh, by the way - there are other family members you'll meet as time goes on. There's Aunt Serafina, from Mom's side of the family. And then there's Aunt Tilly, from Dad's side of the family".

Lucinda smiled. Her new family not only included those at the castle, but also included an older sister, and two aunts. Lucinda looked forward to meeting each of them.
