The Newest Princess - a Sofia the First fanfic

The Newest Princess: Other scenes of interest

Note: this chapter features three scenes set during various parts of "The Newest Princess". This chapter also features Dorrie and Candice from my stories "Dorrie" and "Enchancia Castle".

Before "The Newest Princess"

This scene is set a few years before the beginning of "The Newest Princess", and is based on events in my stories "Dorrie" and "The Newest Princess".

At Enchancia Castle, Violet was in her room getting ready for bed. Violet suddenly felt a presence in the room. She turned around to see the Scarlet Warrior standing there.

"Hello, Scarlet" Violet smiled at the Scarlet Warrior.

"Hello, old friend" Scarlet smiled back. "You know why I am here?".

"Yes" Violet acknowledged. "It's time to make sure the Amulet of Tlara is returned to the jewel room". Violet then took the amulet from around her neck, and handed it to Scarlet.

"Thank you" Scarlet said to Violet, gratefully.

"It has been a privilege to serve as the guardian of the amulet" Violet remarked proudly. "It has given me some interesting powers. And, as you told me, those powers have become a part of me that I may access without the amulet".

"So, what kind of powers has the amulet given you?" Scarlet asked, curious.

"The ability to talk to animals, the ability to walk among people without being noticed, and the ability to read minds" Violet answered.

"All valuable gifts" Scarlet smiled. "I've better get this amulet to the jewel room so it may be rediscovered as it were. But, before I leave, I have something for you".

"What, Scarlet?" Violet asked, interested.

Scarlet reached into a pouch which was around her waist, and brought out an amulet with a ruby red gem stone.

"This is the Amulet of Allegiance" Scarlet said as she handed the amulet to Violet. "This is your permanent property - a reward for all the good things you have done in life".

"Thank you, Scarlet" Violet said in awe.

"Like Dorrie and Candice's amulets, it will become invisible when you wave your hand over it" Scarlet explained. "Your amulet, since you are now a white witch in good standing, will allow you to summon a witch, warlock, or wizard in times of need. Your amulet, like the other magical amulets I have made, will also give you a special power whenever you do something good. Use it well, my friend".

Scarlet then stepped back, clapped her hands, and disappeared in a puff of smoke. As soon as Scarlet had left, Violet put the Amulet of Allegiance around her neck. After admiring the amulet for a few minutes, Violet waved her hand over the amulet, and it became invisible. Violet then smiled, and climbed into bed for the night.

The next morning, Violet, Dorrie, and Candice were doing some dusting in a castle hallway when Constable Miles and King Roland passed them. As Miles and Roland headed toward the jewel room, Violet took Dorrie and Candice aside.

"I need to talk to the two of you" Violet whispered to Dorrie and Candice. "Follow me, please".

Dorrie and Candice followed Violet to an empty room. The three stepped inside, and Violet shut the door behind them.

"What's the mystery about, Mom?" Candice asked, curious.

"Scarlet came to see me last night" Violet started. "To make a long story short, she took the Amulet of Tlara and returned it to the jewel room. I suspect that King Roland and Constable Miles are heading there to see it for themselves after being alerted by a guard".

"So, that means you no longer have an amulet" Dorrie observed.

"Well, I wouldn't say that" Violet smiled as she waved her hand over her new amulet, and it became visible.

"Wow!" Dorrie and Candice exclaimed in awe.

"This is the Amulet of Allegiance, and it's mine to keep" Violet informed Dorrie and Candice. "It's magical like the other amulets Scarlet has made".

"It's beautiful" Candice smiled.

"It looks nice on you, Mom" Dorrie said happily.

Dorrie and Candice then hugged Violet, as Violet returned the hug. It was a happy moment between a mother and her daughters, a moment that would be remembered always.

"We've best be back to work" Violet smiled as she waved her hand over her amulet, making it invisible once again. "We don't want to leave a job half done, do we?".

"No" Dorrie and Candice happily responded.

"That's my fine girls" Violet praised her daughters. "You make a mother proud".

Comforting a friend

This scene is set during "The Newest Princess" right after King Roland gives Lucinda the Amulet of Tlara as a welcome to the family gift.

Fourteen-year-old Lucinda was still settling into her new room looking in her large walk-in closet at her new collection of royal dresses. Soon, she heard a knock on her bedroom door.

She went to the door to find her old friends, fourteen-year-old twin sisters Dorrie and Candice Cooper.

"Hey there, girl" Dorrie said as she and Candice hugged Lucinda.

"I almost forgot you girls work here" Lucinda said as Dorrie and Candice entered the room.

"I know first hand how tough it is to lose your parents, Lucinda" Dorrie sadly commented. "I guess now we share something else besides being witches".

"Guess so" Lucinda quietly acknowledged

"I may not have ever experienced Mom and Dad's death before, but since I have Dorrie's memories, I know the pain of it. It's so tough, but you learn to move on as time goes along" Candice said in a comforting manner.

"If there's anything Candice and I can do to help, just say the word" Dorrie offered.

"Could you sit with me for a while?" Lucinda asked.

"Of course" Candice gently agreed.

Lucinda, Dorrie, and Candice sat down on Lucinda's bed. After looking off into space for a few moments, Lucinda turned to Dorrie and Candice.

"I'm going to need some help, guys" Lucinda requested. "This royal thing is going to take a while to get use to, and ... I'm worried that I'll mess up".

"That will take care of itself sooner or later" Dorrie reassured Lucinda. "Right now, you're still grieving. Give yourself a chance to heal".

"Everybody here will give you as much time as you need" Candice promised.

"But sooner or later, I'm going to need to fit into this new life" Lucinda pointed out.

"Candice and I will help you with interacting with royals - after all, we've been doing it for years" Dorrie revealed.

"And Royal Prep will give you a fine royal education" Candice added.

"That's right - I'll be attending Royal Prep now that I'm going to be a princess" Lucinda realized. "I'll miss Hexley Hall".

"Well, both schools are near each other" Dorrie reassured Lucinda. "It's quite possible that you can take some specialty magical classes at Hexley Hall and attend Royal Prep at the same time. I'm sure something could be worked out".

Lucinda smiled at Dorrie and Candice, happy for their encouragement. At that same moment, a knock came at Lucinda's bedroom door. Dorrie went over, and opened the door. Standing there was Baileywick with a tea pot, tea cups, and tea saucers on a cart.

"The tea that you and Candice requested" Baileywick smiled as he wheeled the cart into the room.

"What's this?" Lucinda asked, taken off guard.

"Dorrie and I thought you would enjoy some tea" Candice smiled. "We thought that maybe it would help to have some tea, and you could tell us some pleasant memories you have of your parents. Consider it a way to honor their memory".

"I'd like that" Lucinda perked up. "Thank you".

"I'll leave the three of you to your tea" Baileywick said as he left the room, and closed the door on his way out.

As Lucinda, Dorrie, and Candice enjoyed some tea, Lucinda recounted some pleasant memories of her parents, even laughing on some occasions. Out in the hall, Baileywick heard Lucinda occasionally laughing, and smiled.

"Bless you, Dorrie and Candice" Baileywick happily thought to himself. "The two of you have gotten Lucinda to laugh, and that's the best medicine there is".

Things revealed

This scene is set after Chapter 2 of "The Newest Princess", and Chapter 1 of my story "Sisters".

It was now August at Enchancia Castle. Lucinda had just finished breakfast with her new family in the royal dining room, and she decided to take a walk around the castle. Even though she had been living in the castle since early summer, there were still places in the castle she had not gotten around to seeing.

As Lucinda walked through the castle, she soon came across a hallway that was hidden behind a curtain. Lucinda walked down the hallway, and soon found herself in a large room with tables and chairs. As she looked around the room, Lucinda noticed there was a long bulletin board with slips of paper on it. As she looked at the slips of paper, Lucinda noticed that the slips of paper were the day's assignments for each of the castle staff.

"May I help you, milady?" a woman's voice came from behind Lucinda. As Lucinda turned around, she noticed Violet standing there.

"Oh, Violet" Lucinda acknowledged. "I decided to take a walk around the castle. There are still places within the castle I haven't seen".

"I understand, milady" Violet smiled. "The castle can be a big place".

"What is this room, if you don't mind me asking?" Lucinda asked, curious.

"Of course not" Violet happily answered. "This is the servants area. This is where the servants eat their meals, and get their assignments for each day. Would you like me to give you a quick tour?".

"I'd love that, Violet" Lucinda gratefully accepted. "Thank you".

"You're quite welcome, milady" Violet smiled. "This is the assignments board where each servant's duties are posted on a daily basis. Over there are the tables and chairs where the servants eat their meals. And over to the side is the buffet area where various food is available for the servants throughout the day".

"Impressive" Lucinda remarked in awe.

At that moment, Baileywick walked into the room.

"Ah! Princess Lucinda" Baileywick smiled. "There you are. Princess Sofia requests your presence in her bedroom".

"Thank you, Baileywick" Lucinda smiled back. "I'll get there immediately".

In a few minutes, Lucinda found herself at Sofia's door. Lucinda then knocked at the door.

"Come in" Sofia invited.

Lucinda walked in, and found Sofia standing there with Dorrie and Candice. Dorrie went over and shut the door to Sofia's bedroom, then rejoined Sofia and Candice.

"Lucinda" Sofia started, "since you've recently met Scarlet, there are other things you now need to know". Sofia then turned to Dorrie and Candice. "Please reveal your gifts".

Dorrie and Candice waved their hands over their chests, and in a few moments an amulet around Dorrie's neck, and an amulet around Candice's neck, became visible. Both amulets were citrine in color.

"Wow!" Lucinda exclaimed, impressed. "Are they ... magical?".

"Yes" Dorrie smiled. "In addition to working here in the castle, Candice and I also keep an eye on the castle and the royal family for Scarlet. To help us keep an eye on things, Scarlet gave Candice and I amulets of our own. My amulet is called the Amulet of Cosmarune, and Candice's amulet is called the Amulet of Valorage - with Valorage being a mixture of Valor and Courage".

"Dorrie and Candice know what my amulet can do" Sofia explained to Lucinda, "and they know what your amulet can do as well. Their amulets work almost like ours in the fact that a power is granted for each good deed performed. However, unlike our amulets which summon a princess when needed, Dorrie and Candice's amulets summon a witch, warlock, or wizard when needed. Their amulets also have the power to become invisible, so that the fact that they have amulets can remain secret".

"And that is a secret I promise to keep" Lucinda assured Dorrie and Candice.

"We have another secret for you" Candice announced to Lucinda. "Please take mine, Dorrie's, and Sofia's hands".

Lucinda held Candice's, Dorrie's and Sofia's hands. In a few moments, their amulets, along with Lucinda's amulet, started glowing. A few moments later, the four were transported to a secret passage within the castle. Sofia, Dorrie, and Candice led Lucinda down a flight of stairs to an area covered with water. As Lucinda looked around, a boat emerged and then stopped where the four were gathered.

"Now the fun part begins" Sofia happily said. "Step aboard, Lucinda".

Lucinda, Sofia, Dorrie, and Candice stepped aboard the boat, and sat down. The boat then started moving under it's own power. In a few moments, various things started appearing off to the side of the boat as the boat traveled along. The first things to appear was the Wishing Well and the Cottage of the Seven Dwarfs from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". Then, as they traveled along, the Castle Clock, the Pumpkin Coach and the Glass Slippers from "Cinderella" appeared.

"Amazing!" Lucinda exclaimed, impressed.

As the boat continued to move under it's own power, more things appeared: King Stefan's Castle and the Spinning Wheel from "Sleeping Beauty"; the Blue Lagoon from "The Little Mermaid"; and the Enchanted Rose from "Beauty and the Beast". Then came the Hogwarts Quidditch field from "Harry Potter".

Along the way, even more things appeared: Agrabah and the Magic Carpet from "Aladdin"; the mountain, and the wind, from "Pocahontas"; the lilies, the Magnolia tree and the bridge from "Mulan"; and the fireflies in the log from "The Princess and the Frog". Then came Grey House from "The Good Witch".

As the trip continued, Rapunzel's Tower, Corona Castle and the floating lanterns from "Tangled" came into view. Then came the Ring of Stones, and archery games from "Brave", followed by the snowy wind and the ice droplets from "Frozen".

The boat then docked at the bottom of a long staircase. Sofia, Lucinda, Dorrie, and Candice stepped off of the boat, and walked up the staircase. At the top of the staircase was a large, round, iron door. Sofia took out a small blue book from her purse, and inserted it into a keyhole-type opening in the door. The door then opened, and the small blue book magically reappeared in Sofia's hand.

Sofia, Lucinda, Dorrie, and Candice walked through the doorway, and found themselves in a large circular room with a variety of books located on a number of levels above them.

"What is this place?" Lucinda asked, impressed and curious.

"This is the Secret Library" Sofia announced. "Most of the books here have no endings. As Story Keeper, it has been my job to go out and find endings for these books ... with the help of Dorrie and Candice who are my assistants here".

"Wow!" Lucinda exclaimed in awe.

"Lucinda" Sofia started, "I'd very much like you to be an assistant here as well".

"It's a wonderful job being an assistant here" Dorrie smiled.

"We get to go out on some amazing adventures" Candice happily added.

"Well, what do you say, Lucinda?" Sofia asked.

"What do I say?" Lucinda answered, excited. "Yes! That's what I say. Thank you".

"You're welcome" Sofia smiled. "Let us show you around the library".

As Sofia, Dorrie, and Candice gave Lucinda a tour of the library, Lucinda looked around the library in awe. This was going to be a wonderful new life.

Author's notes

The ability to walk among people without being noticed: this power would be very similar to the power used by The Doctor, Jack, and Martha in the "Doctor Who" episode "The Sound of Drums".

The "Comforting a friend" portion of this chapter was the idea of Jacob Voronkov, with Jacob also supplying some of the dialog for it.

The Scarlet Warrior (A.K.A. Scarlet) (A.K.A. Queen Scarlet) (A.K.A. Queen Scarlet Katherine Felchenerow) is a character created by Jacob Voronkov, and is used in my stories with permission from Jacob Voronkov.

The "Things revealed" portion of this chapter was a request by Jacob Voronkov for Lucinda to be introduced to the Secret Library. For Lucinda's boat ride to the Secret Library, I added in two magical elements not seen during Sofia's boat ride in "The Secret Library" (the two things I added in for Lucinda was the Hogwarts Quidditch field from "Harry Potter", and Cassie Nightingale's Grey House from "The Good Witch").
