-May's POV-
Panic runs straight to my veins. "C-come again?" I asked her as she rushed passed me and walking fast towards the joint dormitory of the popular kids.
"I don't like repeating myself, May." She sighed as she slung her body bag.
After she retrieved her bag that is full of essential stuff, she immediately went to drag me towards their room.
"Kidnap?" I askedm trying to keep up with her pace. "You know we don't work that way." I reminded her as I secure my fanny pack to my waist.
She sighed once more. "Don't tempt me, Maple. You and I both know that this is a suicide mission. To get them out of this area. Yet we are doing it. I am this close in abandoning them and make a run out of here." She said, showing me her fingers in a dangerously close space.
"Meep."
She smiled, dryly at me. "That's what I thought."
"So... How on earth are we going to convince them into going on an adventure with the school's loser team?" I asked her when we reached the door that will lead us to the popular kids.
"The last time I checked, they would rather go swim in a swamp full of totodiles instead of coming with us."
Isabelle was lost in her thoughts but I keep on going.
"We couldn't just show up in there saying: 'Hey! We're going to kidnap you guys since your lives are in possible danger because those shadows that were after you are sent to kill you. But don't worry. I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun seeing as this is the right time to unleash your capabilities and- What do you think you're doing?" I asked Isabelle who had her eyes shut and chanting few foreign words.
"Don't mind me. Keep going." She said, her eyes not bothering to open.
I shook my head. "Now where was I?" I asked myself. "Oh! Unleash your capabilities because-"
I was interrupted yet again, non other than my best friend who grabbed my wrist and phased through the door.
Wait, what?
Did I just say phased? Oh man...
"When did you learn this?" I asked her.
She just smirked at me and placed her finger in front of her lips.
"Stay here, don't make a sound." She instructed me.
I just nodded at her in disbelief.
What the heck?
I was getting bored. Being in silence isn't really my forte so I went and inspected the dormitory of the populars.
Where are they anyway? And why is their dormitory so quiet? It's as if they weren't here?
My eyes widened and ran towards the room of one of them.
The first room I went in is the room of Logan Carter.
The room is neat and everything is in order so why am I freaking out?
"May?" A voice asked.
I turned around only to see Logan, leaning on the doorframe for support, his facial expression screamed confusion.
"H-hi." I squeaked a greeting.
"Hi." He greeted back. "Not that I mind but what are you doing here in my room? Moreover, what are you doing inside our dorm? Is there something wrong?" He asked.
I was about to shake my head when a piercing scream confirmed my instinct.
Logan's eyes widened as our gazes met. "Dawn."
We reached Dawn's room with the rest of Logan's friends. The sight made me want to release all of the food I ate this morning and that is not a good thing.
"What the-" Paul was about to say when a chuckle caught our attention.
Immediately, their gazes were torn into where the chuckle might be but I knew better.
'Isabelle? Where are you?'
'Relax, May. You're burning Dawn's carpet and she's throwing you glares because of it.'
I looked down only to see embers are slowly inhabiting Dawn's expensive carpet.
'Sorry Dawn.' I said as I stepped away from the carpet.
'Now where are you?' I asked Isabelle.
'Don't freak out. We are being held as hostages so might as well, do this the easy way.' Isabelle instructed me.
'Belle. Where the heck are you?' I asked, trying to calm myself.
'Look up.'
I obliged only to see the most sickening thing ever. The creature is big. Really big. But its features? The creature's skin is deathly pale and covered with scars, bruises and mostly stitches with some blood that were oozing from those stitches.
Oh Arceus. I think I'm gonna be sick.
His eye colors were mismatched. The right eye is blue while the other is green.
But wait! There's more! His lips is chapped, pale while his teeth were black.
He looked like from the medieval period that rose from the dead.
'Rayquaza, I'm gonna be sick.' I told Belle.
'No! Now's not the time to go sick, May! Help us! Well, more likely help Dawn while I come up with a plan how to kill Corri.'
'His name is Corri?'
'...Is that all what you can get from what I said?'
'No...'
'Good. Cause I for one, want to get out of his clutches.'
'What do I do?'
'Corri hates the guardians. Especially the ones from Hoenn.'
'Great.'
'What?'
'I have enough of shadows and... And weird creatures that are after me.'
'Just relax May. Wind up the others and everything will be alright.'
I sighed. I do not like the way Isabelle is going around with this.
'Promise?'
'Promise.'
I sighed before returning my attention to the others.
"Guys..." I started just to catch their attention.
"Where's Dawn?" Paul asked me As he tried to tower over me. As id he wasn't intimidating enough.
I stiffle the urge to roll my eyes. "She's..."
"...Gone." A menancing voice cut me off.
Just hearing his voice had let me take my breath away. In a bad way of course. My blood ran cold as I tried not to turn to wherever he might be.
"Don't even try to look up." I mumbled underneath my breath, trying to warn all of them.
'May... Whatever you do, do not let them look at him in the eye.' Isabelle's voice warned me in my head.
"Why don't you tell them that?" I mumbled.
Paul looked at me weirdly.
'Good idea.'
And with that, she cartwheeled beside him, letting her presence be known to the others.
I glanced at the ceiling, hoping to find Dawn seeing that the illusion had stopped but I found none.
"Long time, no see... Old mate." She said as she wipe the imaginary dust from her shoulders.
If it is possible, I think the creature had smirked. Ew.
"Well, well, well... If it wasn't Miss Hayden." Corri greeted in his weird menancing scary voice.
He stood distant away from Isabelle but what I'm afraid of is that she might get hurt for real if she keep on taunting him.
"Here to finish what you've started?" She asked as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
Started? What is she talking about?
"I'm afraid so." Corri answered.
"What do you mean by that?" Ash's voice made Corri snap his attention from Isabelle to the idiot.
I want to smack my face just then and there. Ash you big idiot! Even I knew by now that one shouldn't attract the attention of some creature if you can't defend yourself.
Ash had to go and ruin that.
"Hello, what do we have here? The guardian of Kanto?" Corri asked as he tried to go near him however, some sort of barrier is preventing him to do so.
Barrier?
"Impossible." He mumbled under his breath As his gaze fell back to Isabelle. "You've gathered the guardians?" He asked.
Isabelle shook her head. "I do not know what you are talking about." She told him.
Corri snarled at her. "Tell the truth now!" His voice returned to the old raspy rough voice he had for years.
My gaze fell towards Isabelle, waiting for her cue.
She smirked, making the creature look at her in anger.
He snarled. "So be it. Let's finish what I've started shall we?"
Before I could even scream her name, Corri went on ballistic mode, destroying Dawn's room.
He tried attacking my best friend. It's obvious that he failed to kill her when he had the chance probably when she was young.
I waved my fist together, creating perfect fireballs in my hands.
"That is so cool.." Gary gushed silently, though I can hear him perfectly.
I tried to go and help Isabelle unfortunately, I wasn't able to because of the barrier that's been keeping us apart.
"What the?" I asked myself.
By then, Corri had destroyed Dawn's perfectly pink room.
"Oh dear. Dawn's gonna kill it." Misty mumbled under her breath.
Isabelle jumped to dodge the shadowball that was emitted by the creature and countered it with rocks from what it seem to be Dawn's wall.
The rock had made an impact though the creature looked like it doesn't hurt a bit.
'What kind of creature is he?' I asked Isabelle.
'The hard to kill one.' She answered as she phased through the creature's guts.
Again, ew.
'Really?'
Isabelle gritted her teeth. "YES! Really." She cried in an exasperated tone with a hint of annoyance as she dodged another one of its attack. "Now will you please let me concentrate?!"
Everyone's gazes immediately fell onto me.
Whoops.
A light blue light immediately covered Isabelle as she struck Corri with icicles.
"Dawn!" Her voice cracked, an obvious sign that she's getting weaker.
"Hold your rapidash, did she just call Dawn?" Leaf asked, as if they are just watching some good tv show.
I rolled my eyes as Dawn appeared and all of her belongings seemed to float.
What in the world...? Hope started to build inside of me.
Could it be...?
"This is for crashing into my room." She said in a deadly calm voice as objects began to swirl and circle around Corri and attacking him in various ways, making him cringe and flinch.
A wave of energy passed through me as Dawn began to float although I do think that she doesn't even know it.
Corri dropped on the ground, wincing and cursing as if he's in terrible state.
I looked at Isabelle only to find her lightened palm onto her head. She's trying to heal herself while she watched Dawn inflict pain and torture towards the creature.
Everyone around her is in awe. As if she had grown two bodies and yet she's still beautiful.
"This is for trying to kidnap ME." She said, her tone of voice is beginning to sound harder and harder.
I gulped. 'Remind me not to get on Dawn's bad side.' I told Isabelle.
However, she didn't respond meaning, she's still healing herself.
"Itami." Dawn mumbled, making Corri scream in agony, angst, hurt and pain.
"Make it stop!" He had cried.
"That's for nearly killing Drew's sister." She mumbled as Corri dissolved into black light.
Silence.
Everyone is in silence after what happened with Corri, the giant, man-killing shadow creature who hated my guts.
The barrier had been demolished by some unknown force while Dawn proceeded to faint.
"Dawn!" Misty, Leaf, Gary, Logan, Ash and I cried her name while Paul jumped into action and immediately caught her.
"What happened?" Ash asked as he rushed towards Paul's side. Isabelle caught on and walked towards Paul's side. "She's exhausted." She explained to them.
"Using too much energy like that would've caused anyone to faint so quit your worrying about her." She said. Just on cue, Dawn's kunzite necklace glowed pink.
"What-"
Isabelle held out a finger. "She's trying to heal herself. So don't bother. She'll be okay. Her body is just adjusting to the amount if energy she'll be needing from now on."
I looked at Dawn's peaceful face. As an ability conjurer I've known what it felt using too much ability just like what she did. Speaking of abilities...
"What's her ability?" I asked Isabelle.
Isabelle glanced at Dawn before answering. "Pathokinesis. Telekinesis."
"The ability to implant emotions into different creatures, allowing to manipulate it within certain distances. Also, the ability to control the gravitational pull of an object, allowing it to float or sink, control its directions..." She explained.
Whoa. Cool!
Before I could even voice out my thoughts, Isabelle had thrown my bag towards me, catching it in the process. "You coming or what?" She asked, making me grin.
It's been years since I've craved for adventure and journey to the other regions.
I was about to leave when I stopped and glance at the popular kids. "Shouldn't they come with us?" I asked, watching them rejoice as Dawn woke up from her healing process.
Isabelle sighed. "I wanted to kidnap them so bad but instead, why bother? They wouldn't want to join us and I only think that this will end badly if we forced them to join our group. I could feel that they aren't even ready to fight and defend their regions." She said, dejectedly.
"But Dawn..."
"You don't know what I've done just to convince her to fight. She was screaming and crying back there. It's a good thing that I've used the illusion thing or we would've been dead meat. After all, Corri isn't the one whom you should mess with." She said.
"But what she did there..."
"That's because I've granted her access towards my past, present and future. She knows what is destined for me, for all of us. I had been her motivation and that's what it should be. She had shown bravery but I'm afraid that's not enough." Isabelle said, gripping the doorknob tightly.
"We should go. Before we endanger them further." She said As she attempted to walk out when someone pulled our wrist.
We both looked in surprise only to see the smiling face of Dawn Berlitz.
"Uh..." I started.
"That was awesome!" She squealed as she proceeded to hug Isabelle but stopped when she had taken in our stances and our expressions.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
Her voice is just like those innocent kids that you wanted to lie so badly and say: 'Don't worry, kiddo. We're off to see the magical wizard of Oz!'
But then again, I know she's smart enough to figure out wherever we're going.
"We're leaving." Isabelle answered for the both of us. "We can't afford to endanger more civilians and destroy expensive prooerties." She said.
"What?" Dawn recoiled. "Where on earth are you going? Where wil, you live? Don't tell me you're running away from us?" She asked.
We were about to speak when Dawn held out her forfinger to hush us. "Nope! I don't wanna hear your pathetic excuse. Not after what I did...!" She held out her arms in exaggeration. "You can't just leave!" She said as she rushed through her destroyed stuff and pulled out a traveling backpack.
I tilted my head in confusion. What is she doing...?
I looked at Isabelle who is also as confused as I am.
"Uh- Dawn?" Ash asked.
"Where are you going?"
Apparently, Logan looked at her then at us then his face lit up before leaving Dawn's room.
I am confused.
Not long after, Logan appeared with his shoulder bag slung unto him while he looked like he's going to travel...
My eyes lit up and so is Isabelle.
When Dawn finished, she turned to us and smiled. "I can't let you go off and have fun by yourselves. After what I've done... I thought to myself, 'Wow, that's one heck of a power you got there! Maybe you could turn it into more amazing one!' and then I asked: 'How on earth will I be able to do that?' And when I turned to look at the two of you... I just knew." She ended her speech as she held our hands. "You can teach me." she said in realization.
"Troublesome...You can't just leave."
Yet she ignored what Paul told her and kept on talking. "I wanted to defend myself. I wanted to protect the people I loved. And I can't do that with me cowering in fear everytime there's danger lurking to get us, can I?" She said with a smile.
Her smile is contagious that I couldn't help but to smile too.
We both turned to Isabelle who just shrugged in return. "Alright, alright. No need to go sappy on me princess. All you could've said is: 'Hey idiots, I wanted to join you!' and then maybe, I could just let you in." She said, making Dawn squeal and tackle her into a hug while she mumbled profanities and protests.
Someone cleared their throat so we looked only to see Logan, awkwardly scratching the base of his neck.
"Can I... Can I come too? Maybe so that I could join you guys and kick someon-"
"Of course." Isabelle said, cutting him off.
He grinned at us and proceeded to hug her when she raised her hands in defense. "No, no. No need to hug me."
I could tell that Logan seemed to be rejected but I knew the real reason.
Isabelle is still wary of people's contact. She isn't exactly the warm person just like I am. She was alone for several years... No human contact, she only isolated herself.
"I'm coming."
We all looked at Paul who had sighed, dejectedly.
"Paul..." Drew started to protest but the former just geld his forefinger. "I'm not going sappy and explain why will I join. I'll only join because of her." He said, pointing at Dawn whom he seemed to be fond of calling: 'Troublesome'.
I wanted to smile. Even if we had failed to kidnap them, we managed to convince them to come with us. To have an adventure with us.
I turned to the remaining people who just stood there, watching the scene unfold. Then I turned to Isabelle who shook her head.
"If they want to come, let them. But do not force them to come with us." She sighed as she left the dormitory, unable to wait for Paul while he retrieve his bag.
Logan followed her while Dawn waited for Paul.
I looked at the others. And muster all the courage just to talk to them.
"You know, Professor would've wanted you to come with us." I said, surprising them.
"Why do you have to leave?" Misty asked.
I was surprised. I wasn't fond of Misty yet she hadn't done anything to kill me or to humiliate me.
"To ensure that we aren't going to endanger more lives. For us to be protected. Professor asked us to take Gary away from here, to do whatever it takes to protect him so we thought that we should kidnap you. Only... Seeing you like that made us realize that you aren't going to come with us whether we take you or not." I said as I tried to leave.
I don't need Isabelle's empathy for me to know that they are contemplating whether to join us or not.
Maybe they aren't going to come...
So I turned to my heel and left them.
Will we even have a chance to become a group?
