Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon.
-Logan's POV-
Ever since we left the Academy, we've been undergoing some weird trust issues. And by trust issues, I meant Paul.
He is really distant towards us and doesn't talk for more than 2 words. He only talks when he's around me and Dawn. He doesn't take the time to talk to Isabelle nor to May.
And things couldn't have been more awkward than I thought.
"So..." I said loudly so that we can have a normal conversation for once.
May and Dawn looked at me weirdly so I shook my head for them to not dwell about my conversation starter thing.
"Isabelle." I called to the green haired girl who seemed to be distant as well.
"What do you want, Carter?" She asked, still in cold tone.
I guess she hadn't been around people too much.
"Why do we have to leave the Academy?" I asked. "Did something bad happen?" I asked her.
She looked at me, studying my features and stuff.
Now don't get me wrong, I may be one of the most popular boys in school, so it is understandable that many girls look at me that much but with Isabelle's gaze, I found myself unworthy and that I'm melting.
Oh Arceus, is this bad? I think it's bad.
"You're smart enough to deduce facts." She said slowly as she walked beside me.
Oh my Mew. Am I nervous? Why am I nervous?
Is it quite possible that a girl- probably my secret crush for as long as I can remember- is finally noticing me?
"Why do you think we're runaways?" She asked, loud enough for the other two to hear it. "What makes you so special? Why you? The populars in general? Why do May and I have to protect you?" She fired The questions at once.
I gulped. I did not expect this one.
Why do I think we're runaways?
Some twigs snapped, making Isabelle, May and Paul alert.
"May can you hear the thoughts?" Isabelle asked, looking around for possible signs of danger.
"No. I can't." May answered nervously.
"Keep quiet." Paul reprimanded as he also looked for signs of danger.
"Because...we'ree special." I answered Isabelle's question as I looked up for her approval.
She nodded in acknowledgement as some twigs snap but this time, there are wind surrounding us.
We all formed circle facing the possible threat that will come at us.
What makes me special?
"Because...I'm a guardian." I answered once more. "We're guardians."
Isabelle is right beside me so I can feel her nod once more.
Why me?
I can feel Isabelle reach up to her pocket where she keep her pokeballs ready. I know that she has a stash of pokemon. I know that she's been a coordinator and a trainer for so long yet people don't really recognize her.
"Because I was chosen. I am a descendant. It is my destiny to protect people. A certain attribute that will help maintain the balance of the universe."
Again, she nodded.
"I don't like this." Dawn mumbled.
"It will be alright." Isabelle soothed her. "Just relax, Dawn. Relax."
Why do May and Isabelle have to protect us?
The attacker lunged at Isabelle but she had reacted quickly.
"Rayquaza hyperbeam!" She shouted as she threw a pokeball- an empty pokeball up in the sky.
Is she crazy?
The attacker decided to show up only to be a Lugia. A dark skinned Lugia.
What is going on?
A ray of light shot from the sky and towards to Lugia.
I turned only to see Rayquaza flying from above. Say what now?
I turned to Isabelle, jaw dropped. Turns out that she was petting Rayquaza, scratching its neck in affectionate manner.
"Missed you too, Rayquaza. Help us out again?" She asked as she turned to me, closing my mouth.
"You'll catch flies, Logan." She said as she mounted on Rayquaza's back. "Let's go catch the naughty pokemon, buddy." She said as her pokemon raced up to the sky where the dark pokemon awaits.
I turned to May in disbelief, only to see that I wasn't the only one that was impressed by Isabelle.
"What?" She asked us.
"Did you know about it? About Rayquaza?" I asked.
May dodged a stray attack of Lugia and nodded. "Every guardians have their own set of legendary pokemon that will actually be their companion and assitants. Rayquaza wasn't actually for Isabelle but she had taken the liberty of taking care of the legendaries so that they won't be alone." She explained.
"So we have super powers and legendaries on our sides?" Dawn asked, grinning at the thought.
"Cool!"
May studied us. "You have no idea." She said as she glanced at the skies.
"What legendary is assigned to me?" I asked her.
She looked at me before thinking.
"May!" Isabelle's voice interrupted her, making her look up only to see a large debris is coming her way.
Before she could even react, Paul immediately tried to reach her wrist and pull her out of the way.
However, things don't really go our way, huh?
There were so many debris that surround us that they don't know where is the safe place to hide.
Out of nowhere a red thing flashes from the sky before bolting out towards the location of May and Paul, shielding both of them until the debris ceased to exist.
"Extreme Speed then Dragon Pulse, buddy!" Isabelle shouted as she jumped from Rayquaza's body and plummeted towards the earth.
As Rayquaza made its way to defeat the dark type Lugia, I was freaking out about Isabelle's descent.
How on earth will I catch her? Will I be able to catch her?
Oh gosh, what do I do?
Isabelle is rapidly plummeting down and I'm still freaking out. What do I do?
Just before she reached the crust of the earth, something fast went pass by me.
What the?
I squinted to see what or who would be so fast that distracted me.
Just before Isabelle touched the crust someone caught her immediately.
When the force stopped, I saw it was none other than...
"Gary?!" I exclaimed as he put Isabelle down to her feet.
He gave us a sheepish grin before greeting us. "Hey. Did we miss the party?" he asked.
We?
I turned around only to be tackled by Leaf Green, alongside with Misty who had slapped me really hard.
"Ow! What was that for?" I asked her.
"That was for letting your weak side get the best of you." She said.
I gave her a confused look. "You made Gary catch Isabelle. It was supposed to be your job!" She reprimanded me.
I forced a smile and gave her a frown. "Sorry?"
She tsked at me while Leaf just smacked the back of my head. "That was for not grabbing the opportunity you dummy." She said.
It's good to have them but why on earth are they here? Don't they want to stay back at the Academy?
Before I could even ask them as to why they were here, Rayquaza had finished fighting Lugia who had posed as a threat to us.
It went back to Isabelle who nestled its head onto her neck. May approached the duo making Rayquaza look at her with its soft eyes and nudged her forehead.
"Nice to see you too, Ray-ray." She greeted.
Ray-ray?
For the second time for today, my jaw dropped at the sight of the legendary in the clutches of two ordinary ladies.
"Ray-ray?" Dawn asked, making Rayquaza's attention snap at her, immediately he growled and went in front of the two girls in case of protection.
"It's alright, buddy. Calm down." Isabelle soothed as she ran forward and patted its head.
"They are friends and they don't mean any harm... Well at least those three over there." She said, pointing at Dawn, Paul and I.
Immediately, the newcomers hung their heads low in embarrassment. I looked back at Isabelle whose face softened when she saw what they did.
"Thanks for catching me, Oak." She acknowledges Gary making him turn to her and smile.
"Don't mention it. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to catch you in time. That and Drew's threat seemed to faze me so I was determined to keep you alive."
Drew's threat?
We all turned to the leader of our group who had leaned at the nearest tree just to watch the scene unfold in front of his eyes.
He sighed as he walked towards Isabelle and May
"I'm sorry."
Our eyes widened. Did we hear it right? Is the mighty Drew Hayden apologizing to the losers: Isabelle and May?
I sneak a peek at Isabelle and May only to see their eyes tearing up a bit. It may seem a small gesture considering of what they've done in the past but to them, it seemed huge enough. Isabelle turned to Rayquaza then back at Drew before tackling him into a hug. An overdue hug I might add and smiled.
"Apology accepted." She mumbled.
Drew looked at May expectantly only to have her nodding at him.
Drew's face lit up and spun her around.
Why am I feeling like I'm in fire right now? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know what it is but it's making me feel uncomfortable. Why am I having an urge to protect May from one of my best friends?
Isabelle tugged at Drew's hand and showed him Rayquaza. She whispered something at Rayquaza making its eyes widen and turned to Drew as if he's facing a new face.
Drew gulped and looked at Isabelle. "I know that I've done a lot of things in the past but making Rayquaza think that I'm his dinner is way overboard."
She threw him a glare while I look for possible clues as to what's about to happen when I met May's eyes.
I threw her a confused look but she just winked at me.
"On the quite contrary my dear brother, Rayquaza here doesn't want to make his master as his dinner for that will be rude, right buddy?" She asked as she swapped her necklace with Drew's necklace.
I always thought that his necklace was a bit girly. Now I know why.
"Master?" We all chorused as Drew seemed to be dumbfounded at the idea.
Rayquaza was looking at him with curiosity in his eyes. Drew hesitantly held out his hand only to have Rayquaza reeling back with a growl making Drew back off in fear As he looked at Isabelle with hesitation.
When Isabelle stepped back, Drew looked back at Rayquaza who was back at staring at him with curious eyes.
He looked at away, his arm was still held out for Rayquaza while the said pokemon stared at him moments before he decided he could trust Drew like how he trusted Isabelle.
And just like that, a new friendship was born. Not just for Drew but also for all of us.
A/N: Next chapter would be an explanation as to what happened in this chapter...;)
