Thanks for reading!

Mihawk never thought he'd do it. Bring someone on his one man boat. However here he is, sitting with Lily tucked in between his legs as his little dingy floats across the ocean. He knew he should've just waited for Shanks and his crew to show up to the island, but the way Lily looked at him and asked him to bring her home.

It shook his entire world.

The way she asked, weak and pathetic. The way she looked, so fragile and sick. He wasn't sure how much longer she was going to last at this rate. Shanks was still about a days away, but still... Lily had asked. Lily had nearly begged him to let her return home.

He didn't know why she wanted to go back, but he would satisfy her ailing wishes.

However, he had made it very clear to Lily that he wouldn't tolerate anything he deemed rude or insulting. Lily swore to him that her village would be very kind and accepting towards him.

He didn't tell Lily that it also included how they treated her.

When they landed on the small Island, Mihawk wasn't surprised at all that the island was covered in flowers. He wasn't even surprised when he came to find out that everyone on the Island was named after a flower, some even the same flower. There were lots of Daisy's, Roses, and Lilac's. Even the men had flowery names.

He was however surprised to find out there wasn't another Lily- or at least they hadn't come across one as they passed through the town. Each person they passed, Lily introduced them to Him with a big smile on her face. Children stopped and stared at them with what can only be described as amazement or wonder or maybe it was a questioning stare, like they'd never seen anyone like him before. Most of the town's people avoided him and Lily. And that was just fine with him. In fact it was so fine that it almost sent Mihawk into a fit of outrageous laughter.

Mihawk hadn't wanted to do anything but slaughter these people since the first Nightmare Lily had within his arms at night. How she cried and pleaded in pain.

Lily held his hand tightly and leaned on him as she led him through the town. She made no stops to continue to talk to anyone as she introduced them, instead she pulled him along. And for that Mihawk was generally relieved. They moved throughout the town, continuing to receive stares and hushed whispers until they finally broke from the small little town and began to head towards what could only be described as a house on hill surrounded by the whitest lilies Mihawk had ever seen. Without even to glance at Lily, he knew this is the destination she had in mind when she mentioned 'home'.

The house was old and crumbling but smoke poured from its chimney, even on such a warm day. The shingles on the roof were covered in moss and falling apart, the windows were cracked in some places and covered in what could only be years upon years of dust and dirt. Subconsciously, Mihawk took note that this was probably why Lily wasn't disgusted by the castle.

"Mihawk?" Lily stopped and turned to face him, grabbing both hands she smiled at him. "This is my home. Where my grandmother raised me!" As if summoning the old beast, the raggedy old wooden door swung open as a hunched over old woman who could only be described as ancient stepped outside the house. Lily turned to face the woman, her Smile growing, if possible. She tugged on Mihawk's hand as she let go of his hand and ran into the open arms of the ancient woman.

And just like that, Mihawk could see the family resemblance, The ancient woman's face broke out in the biggest, goofiest smile Mihawk had only seen on one other person—Lily.

"C'mon Mihawk! Come meet my Granny!" Lily turned to face him as he moved up the hill. The words that followed, Let Mihawk know it wasn't going to be a pleasant meeting.

"Yes, come boy. Let me see the face of the scally wag that deflowered my Granddaughter." The ancient woman's smile wasn't as warm and kind nor as goofy as Mihawk had originally thought. Instead it was full of razors and warnings and the threat of death.

"Lily be a dear and go get grand-mum some nice fresh flowers." The old woman didn't bother to turn to look at Lily, she instead continued to stir the pot of questionable liquid inside of the large over sized cast iron pot.

"Be nice to him Granny!" Lily shouted cheerfully as she smiled and walked out of the house with a basket. The old woman smiled and nodded at Lily and gave her a little wave as she exited the house, however as soon as Lily was out of the house and out of ear shot the old woman's smile turned sour as she turned to face Mihawk as he leaned against one of the rundown walls of the house.

"She's dying you know." Granny sighed as she took a seat in one of the old fragile looking chairs. "It won't be took long by the looks of it."

"How can you tell?" Mihawk could feel his heart jump inside his chest as that old woman turned her blue eyes that matched Lily's on him.

"It's what happens to her kind, you know. Born on the Lily's that girl was. Her life was never meant to be long." Granny sighed and raised a dismissive hand at Mihawk. "Before you start to question everything, I'll explain as best as I can boy, no questions until I'm done." When Mihawk merely snorted in reply granny continued. "This Island here gives birth to very unique individuals. As you've probably noticed, the people of this village are named after flowers." Granny paused and gave Mihawk a very threatening look that might've made any other man uncomfortable but it only annoyed him. He just needed to know how to help Lily to get better. He didn't need to hear about the history of the island. "Because we are born of the flowers. And because we are born of the flowers, when we leave this island—when we come in contact with the disgusting unclean outside world, we will undoubtedly wilt."

"And?" Mihawk raised an eyebrow waiting for her to continue on with her pointless story.

"And boy, that means what you and Lily did, it's poisoning her from the inside out." Granny stood up from the table with lightning speed. Slamming her fists into the table before spitting at Mihawk. "You've killed my only blood with your disgusting bastard!"

Mihawk pushed himself off of the wall, Anger boiled blood as he stepped towards the old woman, "You're a very brave old woman, and because you're Lily's grandmother I won't-" "YOU won't what? Kill me? Yeah I bet that's what you bastard pirates say!"Though very old and frail looking Mihawk had to admit that the old woman still had some fight left in her, as she jabbed her pointer finger into his chest repeatedly as she continued to shout at him. "You come into my home, after you've defiled my granddaughter and planted your devil's seed inside of her belly, killing her!" Fed up with the old woman's jabbing, Mihawk grabbed a hold of her attacking hand and held.

"Speak slower and stop shouting." Mihawk squeezed the old woman's hard until he heard an audible crack. "And stop stabbing me with your finger."

"Speak slower? What don't you understand boy, You've put a baby in her belly and it's killing her!"

And Just like that Mihawk finally registered what the woman had said.

And Just like that Mihawk could feel the weight of his sins.

"Lily, Do you understand what I'm saying to you?" Granny looked at her granddaughter, who still refused to come to terms with what she was saying. "If you get rid of that bastard seed inside of you, you can live on!"

Mihawk stood outside the house. Leaning against the vine covered shed in the back. Though he mightn't looked like he wasn't or couldn't hear what was going on inside of the house, Lily knew better.

"Granny, I understand! Mihawk and me are going to have a baby!" Lily smiled down at her grandmother who sat scowling at her granddaughter.

"Lily, that thing inside of you is going to kill you. Do you understand that?" Granny slammed her hand onto the table and for a moment, Lily's smile faltered before returning.

"Granny, I understand very well what you are saying." Lily knelt down and took her grandmother's hand in hers. "I knew when I started getting sick granny. I knew there was a baby inside of me—that's why I can bear this." Lily gently placed her grandmother's hands against her face. "I know you're sad granny, but I'm not. I'm not sad about this baby."

"How can you say that?" Lily stared up her grandmother who shared the same ocean blue eyes as her. The woman who raised her after her own mother and father passed.

"Because granny, you once told me how my mother had been so sad while she carried me that it killed her. But I don't want to be sad granny. I want to be happy that there's another life coming." Lily paused and stood, pulling her grandmother with her. As she stood, Lily turned to stare at Mihawk, who continued to lean against the shed outside with his hat covering his face. "And more than that granny, I am happy that it's a life shared by Mihawk and me."

"I am happy because there will be two people to love this baby. I am happy because I got to go outside into the world and meet someone I love."

"Lily... couldn't you have picked a nice boy from the village?" Granny moved away from Lily as she said this. Because even she knew how cruel the people of the village were to Lily. But before Lily even got a chance to respond, Granny threw up her hands and sighed. "I suppose you had to follow in your mothers footsteps though. Finding love outside of our Village. Even knowing that its a death sentence. You know Lily the people of our village cant survive outside this island long. Never mind carrying to term and then giving birth."

"I know granny." Lily stepped towards her grandmother.

"And you know that you won't be able to give birth here. Not like your mother did." Granny's voice began to shake and Lily could see her body shaking as she fought to control her emotions.

"I know granny." Lily allowed her own tears to fall down her cheeks as her sadness for granny overflowed. She knew what was to happen next.

"And you know I can't leave this island?" Granny whipped around to come face to face with Lily. Her own tears running down her face.

Lily nodded her head as her own tears continued to pour down her face.

"And you know—and you know that this will be the last time we'll see each other?" Lily ran into her grandmother's arms as they both broke down crying.

"I love you granny."

"Mihawk?" Lily stood in the door way, the moon hung crescent over head. The sky was clear and bright. The air warm and still. It was in all sense a peaceful night, and yet, Mihawk couldn't calm the storm raging inside of him.

Lily stepped from the door way, approaching the swordsman slowly and cautiously. Not from fear but from worry. "Mihawk?" Lily called again as she reached him. Lightly she placed her hand on his arm and stared up at him. She had never seen him so—lost. AS if the her touch had brought him out of some trance, Mihawk turned slightly towards Lily, his golden eyes locking with her blue ones. His hand shot out and grabbed a hold of Lily's hand before yanking her into him. "Mihawk? Are you alright? Are you mad?" Lily wrapped her arms around him gently.

Her grandmother had told her earlier in the day why she was sick. There was a very precious gift growing inside of her belly. A gift given to her by Mihawk. Lily had been delighted by the news, however the way that Mihawk had looked at her after her grandmother had told her, made her believe that he wasn't so happy with the news.

But what was there to be mad about? A glorious gift such as a baby given to her by Mihawk was something to be happy about, but no one looked happy about. Granny looked angered and Mihawk—he looked lost.

And that hurt Lily more than Anything.

"Are you mad about the gift you've given me Mihawk?" Lily leaned back and gently reached up to cup Mihawk's face, forcing him to look down at her. His face twisted into an emotion Lily had never seen.

"Gift? I haven't given you a gift Lily. You will die if you continue to harbor that little bastard inside of you." His hands met her wrists. He could see the confusion and the tears that swelled in her eyes. She looked even more beautiful now than ever.

"I do think it is a gift." Lily smiled up at him, her tears now overflowing from her eyes as she continued to smile. "It is the best gift I have ever received. You have made me more happy than I ever have been. I hope you can see it as the gift that it is." Tenderly, Lily pressed her lips to his, and even more gently grabbed his hand to bring it to her slightly swollen stomach. When she pulled away from the kiss she pressed his hand firmly to her stomach. "She's going to be a part of you and me. She'll be proof of the absolutely wonderful things you've taught me."

His throat felt dry and his tongue felt like it weighed a thousand pounds. He couldn't believe how unbelievably happy she looked—and it was killing him. He did not kill the innocent and yet here he slowly killing the most innocent woman he had ever come across.

"She's going to be a fighter just like you—you know? I can feel it." Lily looked up at him as he removed his hand from her stomach. "I hope that you'll teach her well."

"Lily-" "She's going to need someone as strong as you in her life after—You know." Lily ferociously brushed the tears off of her face with her arm before grinning up at him, "And I want you to bring her here to visit granny sometimes, but not the villagers. They're mean." Without waiting for him to reply, Lily grabbed a hold of his hand and began to drag him after her.

"Lily-" "And you know you don't have to worry about being lonely either because She'll be there with you in my place. So—so don't..." Mohawk nearly plowed into Lily as she stopped suddenly turned and ran into his chest.

She sobbed into his chest for he didn't know how long. He simply held her against him because there was nothing he could do. Because there was nothing he could say.

Because he knew she was crying for him.
