Yeah I'm sorry it's been awhile everybody. Real life decided to get in the way.
Chapter 4 - Recon Mission?
Kim entered the Gateroom with the rest of her team, which was comprised of Tara, Bonnie and Wade, armed with 9mm sidearms, P-90s and zats, but the only weapon Wade had was a zat. By the time they entered, SG-1 was already waiting. Walter was dialing the gate, and a chevron lit up on the Stargate, then an inner ring started spinning again.
Mitchell turned to Kim's team, but more specifically, Kim. "Good morning, sunshine."
"Morning?" Kim thought that Mitchell was a little confused about the time. "Don't you know what time it is? It's afternoon, Colonel."
"And more like 1500 hours, to be more prosaic, sir." Bonnie added.
"Not on P3X-545, where it's an early 0700 hours, and a brisk 46 degrees Fahrenheit." Mitchell announced. Kim nodded in understanding about Mitchell's previous statement.
"Chevron two encoded."
"So this is the Stargate I heard so much about." Wade said as he took in the sight of the gate. Right now, he was like a kid in a candy store, but without the kid, or candy store.
"Pithy, isn't it?" Vala didn't sound all like she cared.
Wade shot a strange look to Vala. "What happens when we go through?" Wade asked Carter.
"We will be de-molecularized, transmitted over several thousand light years through subspace, and then re-materialized on the other side." Carter answered.
"Incredible." Wade gasped.
"I did not need to know that." Tara said with unease.
"Oh come on. It isn't that bad." Vala replied.
"Chevron three encoded."
"You're not scared about going through, are you, Captain?" Mitchell asked.
Tara couldn't believe that someone read her like an open book, she shook her head before responding. "I'm more concern about what we might find." She half lied.
"Oh, come on. You don't have to lie." Vala told Tara. Vala saw right through the lie, only because she had been known to lie, and a lot, but she tried to lead a semi-decent life after she join Stargate Command.
"How would you know if I am lying?" Tara shot back.
"Chevron four encoded."
"Well, I mean, don't get me wrong, you're not a terrible liar, but you're nowhere near as good as me." Vala causally replied.
"Who is?" Mitchell warily said.
Vala shrugged in agreement to Mitchell. "Huh."
"Now, getting back to the task at hand." Jackson said.
"Chevron five encoded."
"We had detected a settlement a distance from the Stargate." Teal'c said.
"The Stargate activating might have alerted someone and they might be waiting in ambush." Carter replied.
"You're assuming that they may be hostile?" Bonnie asked.
"Chevron six encoded."
"I guess we'll see when we dial in, hopefully if there is someone waiting to ambush us when we step through, the MALP will still be intact, so we can get an idea before we. . ." Carter started.
". . .Jump into a hostile situation with no hope of escape." Mitchell finished.
"Or we just hope that there's no ambush waiting for us, and be done with it." Wade said.
"I like that. Keep the positive thinking going." Mitchell grinned, and then the seventh chevron lit up.
"Chevron seven is locked!"
The unstable vortex exploded outward from the Stargate then stabilized forming the event horizon of the wormhole. Tara jumped is surprise, Bonnie gasped and was in shock, but Wade was in awe. Kim couldn't help but smile at the reaction of her friends.
"You're all clear." General Landry said.
"Let's get going." Mitchell said as they walked up the ramp. "This planet isn't going to explore itself."
Both teams stopped just short of the event horizon of the wormhole. Slowly, Kim stepped through. Tara stuck her hand into the wormhole. She couldn't explain what it felt like, but she slowly walked through. Wade was in awe, and excited as he entered, but Bonnie didn't follow suit, and was hesitated about going through.
"Maybe I shouldn't be going." Bonnie tried to sound brave, but Mitchell saw right through it.
Mitchell glanced at Jackson and gave him an "Are you think what I'm thinking?" expression, which Jackson replied with a "She's not going to be happy." expression. Mitchell's expression changed to have said, "That's why I wanna do it." Then a devious grin grew on both of their faces. Bonnie started to step back, but Mitchell and Jackson grab her by the arms and push her through. Bonnie managed a little yell as she was thrown through.
Carter started grinning. "I don't think she'll be happy with you two for a while."
"We had no choice." Jackson calmly replied.
"Besides, we kind of have a schedule to keep." Mitchell said, then paused for a few moments, then spoke. "And we couldn't resist." He finished with a grin, and went through the event horizon.
Jackson shrugs and gives a self-deprecating smile, then follows Mitchell, with Teal'c, Vala and Carter directly behind him.
-Gate Travel to P3X-545-
When SG-1 came through the Stargate, they took a look around at their environment. The Stargate sat in an open field, with some trees in the area. The settlement wasn't too far from the gate, but some terrain they would have to pass through had rather large rocks. The Stargate disengaged as they stepped down, and Bonnie stomped forward.
"What was the big idea?" Bonnie demanded.
Mitchell wasn't fazed and had a serious expression. "I think you should have said, 'What was the big idea, Colonel?' Or sir, would have worked just fine, Major."
Bonnie saw Jackson grinning, and she shot him an annoyed and ticked expression. "You're lucky I can't kill you without getting a Court Martial, Doctor."
"Bonnie, when you have died as many times as I have, the possibilities of dying again, doesn't really bother you much." Jackson shrugged.
Kim, Bonnie, Tara and Wade gave a double take at what Jackson said. They became very uneasy that Jackson pretty much claimed to have died, and more than once. But it was impossible, right?
"Dr. Jackson, what are you talking about?" Kim asked.
Jackson was hesitated about it for a moment. "Sam, you want to take this?" Jackson asked the Colonel.
Carter thought about the best way to explain, then started, "There was a device, build by the Goa'uld, which was designed to boost health and longevity, heal or revive someone terminally injured. If used enough times, then your mind will undergo changes."
"Loss of sanity, being one of those changes." Mitchell bluntly said.
"You mean that they would go crazy?" Tara asked.
"That's a better way a putting it." Vala replied.
"It can also destroy who you are, making ascension impossible." Jackson said.
Kim perked up at Jackson's statement. "Ascension?" She asked.
"It's the process of shedding one's body and arising to a higher plane of existence." Jackson explained. "The body becomes pure energy, leaving everything else behind, and that's how you live. As pure energy."
Kim thought about it for a moment, and then something stuck out in her mind. Kim shook her head, trying to forget what she was thinking about. "I must have missed some files."
"Yeah, but that's another whole ball of wax, but right now, we have some exploring to do. Everyone, move out." Mitchell ordered, and with that they head towards the settlement in the distance.
-Geosynchronous Orbit Around Earth-
A ship, which was called the Odyssey was in orbit around Earth. Inside the Hanger Bay a small cylindrical ship with an angled front and rear shape exited the Hanger. As it cleared the Hanger Bay, Drive Pods extended outward from the side of the back of the ship.
On board, an older man known as Colonel Davidson and commander of the Odyssey, sat and watched as the Jumper was clear of his ship, he then directed his attention to the Major sitting in the chair to his right. "Major, open up a channel." Colonel Davidson commanded.
Major Marks pressed a button, opening communications with the pilot. "Channel opened, sir."
"Odyssey to..." Davidson rolled his eyes. He couldn't believe what he was going to say. The Colonel knew why the General was the test pilot, but he wanted to know why President Henry Hayes allowed him to name the ship. "Jumper One."
"Come on, say it!" came a male voice through the communications. It was General Jack O'Neill. Some crew members couldn't hide their grins, fully knowing what the General wanted to hear.
"I can't do that, sir." Davidson replied, seeing how he didn't want to say it. His pride was at stake after all.
"I could make it an order." O'Neill prodded. Davidson sighed, realizing that he couldn't ignore a direct order from a superior office, without getting in trouble.
Davidson took a deep breath, and swallowing his pride, the commander spoke. "Odyssey to . . .Enterprise." Davidson said, with the 'Enterprise' part kind of quiet.
"I'm sorry, but I didn't catch that last part, what did you say?" O'Neill asked.
"Odyssey to Enterprise!" Davidson said more clearly. Major Marks hid the grin on his face, as did several other crew members.
Onboard the Enterprise, General O'Neill sat as the helm of the ship as he reveled in what Davidson said. "That's more like it." General O'Neill said with a grin on his face. "Ready for test flight."
They had completed a prototype hyperspace generator for the Jumper and was giving it a field test. The prototype was designed by Dr. Rodney McKay, when he became a highly-evolved super-genius, with a super ego to match. Sometime ago, McKay was temporarily transferred from Atlantis to Area 51 to oversee the project.
It wasn't really making any progress, and was taking what seemed like forever. Several scientists believed that it was impossible to finish, but when Carter replaced McKay, it was smooth sailing from there on out.
The technology provided by the Asgard, before their destruction helped out a lot in the development for the prototype, and for a better power source for Jumper. When it was completed, the hyperdrive was then integrated with the Jumper's systems, so the process of activating it, would the same as controlling the Jumper. Think to fly and activate.
O'Neill piloted the Enterprise away from the Odyssey and Earth. "Activating hyperdrive." O'Neill announced. In a second, a purple void appeared in front of the ship and the Jumper shot into it, disappearing along with the void.
The Enterprise traveled through subspace, and O'Neill looked beyond the window, and at the blue, purple and white streaks of light that passed by. After traveling through subspace for the allotted time, O'Neill concentrated on dropping out of hyperspace, but it didn't respond. A little alarmed, O'Neill tried to shutdown the hyperdrive again, but like the last time, nothing happened.
"Ok, I think I might have a slight problem." O'Neill then tired to activate the communications, but it wasn't responding. Alarmed, he tried shut down power all together, with no results. By now, O'Neill knew he was in trouble. "I thought Carter said it was ready for a test flight."
"She is right, General, but we need to talk."
O'Neill stopped. He fully knew that he was the only one on the Jumper, when he activated the hyperdrive. He slowly turned around. Standing behind him was a man, about average height, with his entire head and face covered by a hood, and dressed in brown and white robes. There was only one way this man could have gotten on, especially without O'Neill knowing about it, and he had a perfectly good idea of how.
O'Neill leaned over so he could see past the man, but beyond him there was nobody else, then he turned his attention to the man "Who are you and how did you get onboard?"
"I am called Caelus and I have vital information about what is to come. However, there is something you must do as well."
The Enterprise exited hyperspace, and O'Neill saw the Odyssey in plain view. "So much for non-interference." O'Neill mumbled, then activated the communications. "General O'Neill here. Flight was. . . a success."
On the Odyssey Colonel Davidson stood. "What went wrong, sir?"
"Oh, nothing to be concerned with. Just someone appearing from nowhere, warning me about a very dangerous threat trying to make another run for galactic domination, you know, same-old, same-old." O'Neill casually informed the commander. "I need to speak with Daniel Jackson. He's kind of in danger."
-P3X-545-
Both teams came closer to the settlement, or in this case, the ruins of an ancient city, which was abandoned for close to one thousand years.
"That's strange." Carter took in the view of the ruins.
"What?" Kim asked.
"There's no one here." Teal'c said, sounding confused.
"That's a good thing then, right?" Tara asked.
Mitchell turned around, and Kim's team saw the concerned expression. "The MALP detected at least a few hundred life signs in this settlement."
"Or in this case, ruins." Jackson casually replied. Mitchell glanced over at Jackson, and nodded in agreement.
"Then what could have happened?" Bonnie asked.
"I don't know." Carter admitted.
"Well, if we just stand around doing nothing, we'll never find out what went wrong." Vala spoke out.
"Vala's right. First, we call Landry and tell him of our situation." Mitchell turned towards the direction of the Stargate, and sighed. "Not again!" He complained.
Everyone turned to see what the problem was. The Stargate was gone, along with the DHD.
"What happened to the gate?" Jackson asked.
"Maybe it went to a little walk?" Vala jokingly suggested.
"This isn't a time for jokes." Bonnie shot Vala an irritated glare.
"And I thought it was a one in a hundred million chance that something will terribly go wrong?" Tara asked.
"We're SG-1." Mitchell said, emphasizing the '1' part. "We're known for beating the odds, whether it's the good kind or not." Mitchell started towards the ruins. "As long as we're here, we might as well as check out the neighborhood. There might be something there that can help us."
They continued walking until they entered the path that went through the rocky terrain. They hear birds chirping, and then they hear other sounds, and Mitchell signals for everyone to stop. Everyone goes to one knee on the ground and Mitchell, Carter and Teal'c look around, trying to find the source of the sound they heard. As they try to assess the situation, there is a beeping sound and then a spherical object lands in front of them. A blue light glows on it. It looks like a grenade of some kind and clearly ticking.
It took Mitchell a second to recognize what it was. "Ah—"
The grenade goes off in a blast of white light, and everyone falls to the ground, unconscious. Six people in black robes emerged from behind the rocks all around them, standing around them, talking amongst each other. One of six approached one of the others, whose robe was more decorated then the rest.
"We now have the one, our master needs." The robed figure said.
"Good, but we are to take them all. Our master wants to make an example of the Tau'ri." The figure raised his arm, and pressed a button on a device on his wrist, and the Stargate, along with the DHD, reappear. "We leave now."
-Stargate Command-
General Landry and O'Neill were walking through the halls of the SGC, side-by-side. It wasn't long after the test flight of the hyperdrive and O'Neill's encounter with Caelus. "Jack, how can you be so sure that he was ascended, or quite possibly an ancient?"
"Let's see. One: He was dressed in a similar manner when Daniel was ascended. Two: No one else was in the Jumper with me before I activated the hyperdrive, and I lost all systems to the Jumper. And three," O'Neill stopped, and looked directly at Landry. "He told me." O'Neill then paused for a brief moment. "And I kinda threw my shoe at him, which happened to have passed right through him." They then continued towards the Control Room. "But he did say that he wasn't an ancient."
They rounded a corner and were almost at the Control Room for the gate. "What do you mean, 'not an ancient'?" General Landry asked.
"He said, he had help ascending. Oma Desala helped a lot of people ascend, you know." O'Neill pointed out.
"What about your guest taking control of the Jumper? I thought they can't interfere with our plane of existence." General Landry said.
"I don't quite honestly know myself, but apparently something big is or has gone down, and he believed that we need to be made aware." O'Neill replied.
"What problem might we be in for?" General Landry asked
"He wasn't much on details and would arrive later to fill us in. He left because there was something he had to do, but there must be a catch as to why he's even allowed to do what he's been doing. Right now, I need to speak with Daniel before he goes on any more missions." O'Neill sounded urgent. When they got to the door to the Control Room, they entered, coming up the stairs.
"Unfortunately, SG-1 is already on a mission with a new team. We've obtained Intel that something was going down. We're not sure what, but our best bet would be that Ba'al is up to something." General Landry approached Walter, who was sitting at his station. "Status report?"
"Still no word from either team." Walter replied.
"How long are they overdue?" General Landry inquired.
"Over an hour, sir." Walter replied.
"Dial the gate." General Landry ordered.
"Yes, sir." Walter started to dial the gate, and soon all seven chevrons were lit. The wormhole formed within the Stargate. "Connection established." Walter said, then activated the comm.
"SG-1, this is General Landry. You're overdue. Report." General Landry waited for a response, but got nothing. "SG-1, respond." There was still no reply from either SG-1, or Kim's team.
"Things could be worse." O'Neill stated.
"How?" General Landry asked O'Neill.
"They could have gone to P3X-545." O'Neill said offhand.
O'Neill's words stopped Landry in his tracks, and he turned to O'Neill. "Why there?"
"Because, Caelus told me that's where the ambush was to take place." O'Neill revealed.
