Legends 33
The room froze, everything covered in a thin layer of frost. The woman that had a sword pointed to the center of his forehead, as well as the shadowy figure that held him tight, were frozen in spot. Taking in this opportunity he escaped the grasp of his certain death, running over to his auburn haired teammate. As he approached the air grew colder and colder, much more so than the room had become.
"Gary, snap out of it!" Ash called, letting a release of the static cage before he dropped next to the ice soul. Observing Gary's body, Ash noted that it had begun to freeze over. The air seemed thick, hard to breathe in, like a winter night with blistering winds. Taking hold of the other boy's shoulders, he began to Shake Gary from his unconscious state, stopping only seconds after as his hands began to go numb. "Fuck," Ash muttered bringing his hands between his thighs to bring back the warmth in them.
Shifting noises caught the raven haired boy's attention, his head whipping around to look at two figures, taking sight of the chest rising and falling yet again. One of the things he really didn't need right now. He was going to run out of steam soon. The static cages he put up were a lot more draining than he expected them to be.
Looking towards the girl that hard been beaten senseless, she had water surrounding her body. The same thing that was happening to the boy next to him only with her element. It was a new occurrence, they had not been informed anything about what this was that was currently happening to the two souls.
"Ash!" A voice said boy recognized as Drew called, drawing his mind away from the confusing situation that was happening to his peers. "What the hell is happening?"
"The hell if I know! I got here and Mist was down, Gary was about to be slaughtered and then everything froze." He called back t the emerald haired male, standing up and shifting back from the bodies that were just spilling out their respective powers.
Drew moved next to his standing teammate, now looking at their unconscious friends. It was vaguely familiar the way they were glowing, seeping out large amounts of energy. "May," he said quietly to himself, Ash's attention being drawn to his muttering. "This happened to May, she wasn't unconscious but while we were fighting Eclipse."
Ash looked at his companion in confusion, deciding they didn't have enough time to tty and figure this out he grabbed the lightning shaped pendant that was attached to his cape at the seam. Holding the pendent in his hand he put in enough power to summon Hilda and Hilbert for information. Now wasn't entirely the best time to need a lesson but there was no other way of helping their team if they didn't know what was happening.
The two bodies appeared in seconds, their bodies looking worn down from the fight in their own realm. "Why the bell would you call upon us now?" Hilda yelled towards the two males that stood in front of her. "We are in the middle of-" she stopped her sentence as Hilbert turned is swiftly to look at the two bodies on the floor.
"This isn't supposed to happen." the male dragon child spoke.
"Ya we know, but we got two fucking people on us and we've been fighting one at a time because there was no other escape." Ash's voice was snarky. Upset was clear through his expression. They weren't strong enough for this fight anymore.
"No, the power. It's too strong….this isn't natural…...they are feeding off one another's power….." Hilda spoke quietly, as though trying to figure out what was happening as she spoke. "Misty's water is freezing, Gary's ice is melting. They are using one another subconsciously in order to fight on. They're will to protect, it's there, more so than it ever has been."
"I used my power to let May's flames grow, is that somehow the same thing as what happening here?" Drew popped into the conversation, attempting to make sense of what Hilda just mumbled.
Hilbert looked around noticing the two figures frozen in place across the rumble that was once the foyer of the hotel. "Those two, their power…" taking steps closer to the figures, his delicate hearing could pick up the faint breath beginning to form. He listened for their pulses in hopes of understanding what these eight teens were facing. "There isn't one."
"Isn't one what?"
The chests began to move more and more with each passing moment. "They are dead."
"They are breathing Hilbert."
"There is no heartbeat. They are dead." Hilbert's voice cracked as fear struck him. There would be no winning. There would be no end. These enemies were already gone but continue to live.
"So now we have more than one issue on our hands. Oh ya this war thing just keeps getting better." Sitting himself down, Drew let out a sigh. "I'm seventeen for fucks sake. Why the hell is this even a thing."
"It isn't fair, fuck, I just want to wake up from a bad dream." Ash took a seat next to Misty's body, far enough so he wouldn't get hit by the power that surrounded her.
"We understand you're upset, it is a hard burden to carry. But you were chosen for a reason. You must understand that." Hilda explained crouching down beside Ash placing a hand on his shoulder. "Right now Misty and Gary are using one another's power to strengthen themselves. This only really happens with very mature dragons, they need to be hundreds of years old. Misty's water being expelled is freezing as it comes into contact with Gary's space, the cold that he is expelling is in a way melting and that creates moisture for Misty to take in. They are using one another to regain their strength." standing back up Hilda approached Hilbert taking hold of his hand. "The enemy has made a grave mistake and it has fallen into your favour. Just keep fighting. It'll be over soon enough." The two brown haired teens began to fade making sure to tell the dragon souls a quick "dont die" before completely disappearing back to their own battle.
"Dawn? What happened?" a groggy voice sounded in the room. The girl in question turned back to the now awoken figure that lay upon the carpet shattered glass around her.
"Ah, May don't move!" Dawn cried as the brunette began to shift her weight around. "I was caring for the wounds the glass made and I hadn't got to moving you yet." Running over to the girl she grabbed her hands and pulled her to stand once ready.
Moving to the couch May flopped down looking to Dawn for an answer to her previous question. The bluenette had already gone back to where the window once was, looking out to the city she began to speak. "You were falling from the building unconscious. Paul and Gary managed to grab you but we don't know what happened to Misty. After grabbing you and giving you to me the boys and Leaf headed to the roof for Misty."
"What about Drew and Ash?" May questioned though Dawn stayed quiet. "You let them go fight?" May yelled at her friend in disbelief. "They aren't battle ready!"
"None of us are battle ready May!" Dawn yelled back. Turning to her leader, tears spilled from her eyes. "None of us are ready! But they are in better condition and stood a better chance than you did at that time. And I don't know what's happening out there because I needed to keep our leader safe."
Blinking a few times to process that she had been useless for an amount of time she was still unsure of. Dawn wasn't able to go help her team even if they had been fatally wounded because she couldn't have May alone while the others were together. She would have been dead for sure.
"You've been out for about an hour."
"So you haven't heard from any others yet?" May asked, stretching her limbs before standing back up. Before Dawn could answer a large crashed could be heard from above. The room began to shake the black and white orbs that sat on the table began to roll off. Dawn caught them quickly attaching them to a thread and tying then into her ponytail at it's base. Running to the window area the two girls watched as the ceiling crashed down near the entrance to the room from the hall. Glowing figures passed through, though it was a blur.
Quickly realizing that the building was not in the best condition the two girls rushed to get to the hallway, jumping and using their powers to allow access to the door. Once opening they realized the power had been turned off or was out. Dawn summoned some light quickly as they began to search for any bystanders to the war.
After finding a few groups of people near the lower floors, Dawn and May began to escort the people out to the lobby. May was in the lead though came to an abrupt stop upon entering a war zone.
Quickly rushing them back May had Dawn put a barrier up so that there would be no casualties to innocents. After being sure that they were safe the teengers headed to the foyer where they saw Drew and Ash standing away from the fight, ushering them to get to their location
"What the fuck is going on?" the brunette questioned her teammates that she had ordered to stay in their now trashed hotel room. Though she was concerned for their well being, that had to be put back as she watched the girl that had been knocked unconscious just before her, fight alongside Gary who was covered in patches of red ice.
Drew looked at his leader and then to his healer. He let out a small sigh before gathering his words. "Honestly, we are just as confused. Both of them were practically dead. This is what happened to you while we fought Eclipse but you were just pissed."
"I held Riko, who by the way is fucking one of our enemies, off just long enough while protecting the other two. Gary froze the place over trying to protect me. A lot happened. They, in these dragon form things, managed to scare off Riko for the time being along with that shadow figure." Ash added in.
Dawn looked over to the two worn down teammates. Misty body was much more opaque with wings that looked like two waves dripping down on the ground. She high fived Gary causing her hand to freeze slightly and look as though she was in her normal form.
Gary other than the patches of blood filled ice to stop from bleeding out, had wings as well though looking as if large icicles had formed extending from his back. His body looked more jagged, as though he himself was a ice carving and his hair turned to a shade of brown that was almost white.
It wasn't long before they returned to their human form and toppled over on the ground. Their injuries were to severe from before. Rushing over Dawn casted her power over both the bodies, Drew soon to follow to provide a more oxygen rich area.
"Ash, what about Leaf and Paul?"
The boy in question ran a hand through his dark locks. "Haven't heard from them in a while. They went out with Gary to the roof, that's all I know."
I know it's been a while. I do intend to get back to the regular updates but life has been life and I can't focus on writing when I have other things going on. Plus whenever I wrote this out I hated it then had to rewrite it. I still am not too happy with it but I'm not putting it off any longer and posting it.
I'll update next Friday to get back on schedule. We don't have too much left to go on this story.
Until next time.
