Can't Let the Killer
By: AndiKaneUnderwood
Okay. So I've been going through life for a while now and it recently hit me that I've been making a big mistake in my stories. I'm rewriting several to correct these errors I've made. I hope you enjoy these even more now!
She looked around at her co-workers as her boss gave the profile of the serial killer, one she herself had been forced to track down with some of the best agents in the world. (She looks first to her boss and her boss's oldest friend.) She couldn't let the killer get Hotch, who'd been like a father to her, guiding her through rough times. She couldn't let the killer get Rossi, who'd been the grandfather she'd never met, enthralling her with stories of old.
(She looked next to the protector and the daughter of an imprisoned killer.) She couldn't let the killer get Morgan, who was the big brother she'd never been provided with, guarding her against harm as best he could. She couldn't let the killer get Seaver, whom she'd known only a short period of time, but wouldn't trade for the world, even at the cost of her life.
(Her gaze moved next to the "hired nerd" who worked behind a screen.) She refused to let the killer touch Garcia, who'd never failed to make her smile when the days turned happy dreams to unnerving nightmares.
(Lastly, his gaze moved to the youngest and brightest of their team.) She'd die before letting the killer touch Reid, whose eccentric quirks brightened her day and helps her through the rough weather.
She vows then that Ian Doyle will rue the day he left prison. He will regret crossing paths with Emily Prentiss. (The fact that she had previously made this promise is irrelevant.) As she slowly backed away from the team, she casts a final glance at Spencer Reid, who she'd called sister, and Penelope Garcia, who she'd called best friend. Both will undoubtedly feel the most pain should his plan come undone. They were her confidants, and the people who knew her best; rivaled only by her best friend and lover JJ.
As she left, she dropped by her desk to leave her phone and badge. Her team would not be involved unless it is absolutely necessary. Doyle will not hurt them. Her hands hover momentarily and for a second, he considers turning back. Then she shook her head and left the bullpen.
Ian Doyle will regret the day he met Emily Prentiss.
She'd make sure of it.
