Edith awoke from a peaceful slumber to an even more peaceful morning. The sun was shinning and the birds were chirping. She was just so happy. Was all that happend yesterday just a dream, or was it real? These were her thoughts as she went down to breakfast.
"Hello, Papa. Hello, Michael." smiled Edith.
" Hello, Edith" said Robert.
" Hello, Edith. How are you this lovely morning?" questioned Michael happily.
"Very well, Michael. How are you?" answered Edith.
" Very well, thank you." said Michael.
" Oh, Papa, mama said the baby has a surprise for you"
Robert's solemn look quickly turned into a face splitting grin as he rushed upstairs. Edith and Michael chuckle as they see her father rush out of the dining room and up the stairs.
" What surprise does the baby have for your father?" asked an amused Michael.
" The baby started moving." smiled Edith.
" That must be exciting." said Michael.
" I think Sybil is more excited than Mama." chuckled Edith.
" How so?" questioned Michael.
" Every time I see her she declares how happy she is to finally be a big sister." said Edith.
" She must be very excited." smiled Michael.
Meanwhile upstairs in Cora's bedroom.
" I can't believe it! The baby just kicked!" exclaimed Cora excitedly as Robert entered the room gasping for air. " Robert are you alright? You look like you have just ran up three flights of stairs." said Cora.
"Well to be precise I ran up and down one flight of stairs twice because I dropped a telegram from your mother out of my pocket on the way to your room. Did you just say the baby kicked!?" answered Robert.
"Yes!" she exclaimed as Robert rushed over. " Mother got married!" said a shocked Cora.
"She what?" asked an astonished Robert.
"Read the letter." Cora responded as she handed him the letter.
" My Dearest Cora,
I know this may come as a shock to you. I assume Mary has told you that I had to returned to America for a dress fitting. I did, but the dress was a wedding dress. I have married a wealthy gentleman from Ireland, James Carrey. He was a business associate of your father's a while back. We met at your father's funeral and we ended up getting married. Please give him a chance. We will be coming back to visit in about six months. If you do not mind I would like him to be treated as the new baby's real grandfather. I am sorry for leaving in such a hurry.
All my Love,
Mother
" Shall I tell the girls or would you like to? " asked Robert.
" Well, Sybil is in the garage looking at the new car, Edith and Michael are walking the grounds, and Mary and Matthew are in Manchester. I suppose I will tell them at dinner." replied Cora.
"Alright, My Dear, but what are Mary and Matthew doing in Manchester?" questioned Robert.
" Matthew has a hearing to attend and Mary wanted to go along to see what a lawyer does." replied Cora.
" I see. Will they be back for dinner?" questioned Robert.
" Yes, they will be back right before the dressing gong." replied Cora.
" Shall we see the new shipment of books that came earlier?" questioned Robert.
" That is a grand idea." replied Cora.
With that they went to see the new shipment of books, and awaited everyone's return.
