Sybil entered the drawing room. Instead of finding her grandparents in there she found their loyal butler Charles Carson.
" Carson, Do you know where my parents are?" she questioned noticing that no one else was in the room.
" They are in your mother's sitting room, My Lady." replied the butler.
" Thank you Carson." Sybil cheerfully replied.
As she left the room she heard the car pull up the drive. A few moments later Mary, Matthew, Edith, And Michael entered the house.
"Is Mama alright?" questioned Mary as soon as they were all in the house.
" What do you mean? I did not know anything was the matter." asked a now worried Sybil.
" We both received telegrams from Papa telling us to get back as quickly as possible because Mama had collapsed." explained Edith.
" Well she is in her sitting room. Let us go see her." said Sybil.
Then they adjourned to Cora's sitting room. while Carson escorted the men to the drawing room.
Meanwhile at the restaurant...
Violet entered the restaurant and looked for Mary and Matthew. Because they were no where to be seen she went to the main counter.
"Did a young brunette and blonde couple leave about an hour ago?" Violet questioned the young man who was standing behind the counter.
"Yes, Ma'am. Are you Violet Crawley?" he replied and questioned.
She responded that she was and he handed her this telegram.
Mama collapsed. going back to Downton.
When she saw this she went to her car.
"Willoughby, take us to Downton." Violet commanded.
"Very good, My Lady." the chauffeur replied.
"Mama are you alright?" asked all three girls in unison.
" Yes, my darlings, I am fine. We do have some news though." smiled Cora.
" What is it, Mama?"" questioned Edith.
" I am having twins!" exclaimed Cora.
"Really, Mama." asked a now very excited Sybil.
" Yes, my dears." smiled Cora
" Shall we have some tea?" questioned Robert.
"That sounds lovely." said Cora.
Then Robert rang for Carson.
Meanwhile in the servant's hall...
" Is the room ready for Her Ladyship's guests?" Carson questioned the head housemaid, Anna.
" Yes, Mr. Carson." she replied.
He was about to reply when the bell rang for Cora's sitting room.
" Thank you, Anna." said Carson as he went up the stairs.
Because it was her day off Daisy was sitting at the common table. William was going to take this to his advantage.
"Daisy would you like to come with to my Dad's? He says he would like to meet the girl who made the delicious shortbread cookies."
" You told him I made the cookies?" asked an embarrassed Daisy.
" Yes." replied William timidly.
Daisy put a hand on William's forearm. " I would love to come with you William." smiled Daisy.
William grinned broadly. They did not notice a sour looking footman glaring at them from the corner.
"Wonder why they're so happy." said Thomas to O'Brien who was standing next to him.
"Probably an idea for another joke on us." sneered O'Brien as she looked at the happy pair.
They were called to attention when Carson reentered the room.
"Bates and O'Brien his Lordship and her Ladyship are waiting for you. Thomas a word." commanded Mr. Carson
"Very good, Mr. Carson." They all replied. Then Bates and O'Brien left and Thomas came to Mr. Carson's office.
" My Lady how are you feeling" questioned O'Brien.
" Much better, thank you, O'Brien."
As O'Brien was preparing to leave she kicked a soap bar across the floor. As she was exiting the room a thought came to mind.
" No, O'Brien, you are a good person. You should not do such a thing." she thought to herself.
" My Lady, If you will just wait a moment. The floor is very slick." she said.
" Yes, of course, O'Brien. replied the Countess.
" Bates, do you think that Thomas has been acting strangely?" questioned Robert to his valet.
" In what way, My Lord?" questioned Bates thinking to himself that Thomas was always strange.
" For the past few nights at dinner Thomas has bee looking at William from the corner of his eye; although it looks more like glaring to me. Have you seen anything strange downstairs?" explained and questioned Robert.
" Now that you mention it, My Lord, He has been glaring at Daisy and William most of the time." explained Bates.
" Oh is Thomas sweet on Daisy?" He questioned thinking that may be the cause.
"No, My Lord. He is not sweet on Daisy. William on the other hand is very sweet on her." Bates replied
"Have a meeting with Carson. Tell him I want Thomas to be the second footman, and William the first." Robert commanded.
"Very good, my Lord." replied Bates as he finished.
Meanwhile in the drawing room...
Mary and Edith sat in a stunned silence while Sybil prattled on about how fun it would be to have two younger siblings.
" I wonder how will it be with two babies here?" Sybil asked herself.
" I remember when you born. You were such a quiet baby." reminisced Edith.
" I hope that the babies will be as quiet as you were." said Mary to Sybil.
" I am sure they will be perfect little darlings." smiled Sybil.
Just then their grandparents entered.
"Mary, Matthew requests a word with you." stated her grandmother.
" Thank you, Granny." replied Mary as she left to seek Matthew.
She found him standing on the balcony with his back facing her. She walked on to the balcony. The clicking of her heels alerted him to her presence. He turned around and faced her.
" Mary I know that we have only been courting for a few months, but from the moment I saw you I knew that I loved you." he paused to get down on one knee. at this Mary gasped. " Mary will you do me the honor of marrying me?" He questioned.
Tears were streaming down Mary's face by the time he had finished his proposal.
"Yes. Yes Matthew I will marry you." Mary said smiling brightly.
