I don't own Teen Titans
For those who don't know, Gotham is the city Batman protects. Conner is Superboy. James Gordon is commissioner Gordon from Batman. Barbara is Barbara Gordon who was once Batgirl untill she became Oracle. Harvey the guard Is Harvey Bullock who is also in Batman and is a GCPD detective. Also, Aqualad became known as Tempest which is why Garfield asked Garth to call himself Tempest instead of Garth. Think that's everything. Well, enjoy.
"Jinx!" Slade called out.
They had just hit Gotham Point and all the men were excited for a few days on dry land. They had took quite a hit on the attack on Port Tamara. Almost 15% of the crew didn't make it back to the Four Swords cause they were either captured or killed. Slade was looking for his Quartermaster who was overseeing the men to make sure they were securing the ship right.
"Yes Captain?" Jinx asked heading over to him.
"I want you to stay here with the girl," he commanded as Jinx gave a sigh.
"Seriously? " she asked looking fare from pleased. "For how long?"
"For untill we get to Paradise Island," he said simply. "I can't risk her being activated untill then and I don't trust the men not to try anything stupid while alone with her."
"Yes Captain," Jinx nodded knowing he was right.
"I'm not planning on staying more than a few days here," he said watching the men tieing the ship down. "As soon as we're loaded l, have some new recruits on board and the demon, I want us gone."
"Yes Captain," she said as Slade left her as the men dropped the gangplank.
Jinx didn't say another word as she made her way down to the prisoner housing where several chains hung from the walls. At the very end sat a large cage with a very upset and scared looking Kori. Kori looked up hearing Jinx's footsteps.
"Hello?" Kori asked as Jinx came into view, the only light being several candles. "Please, help me. My family is rich, if you let me go they will..."
"Cool it thier sweety, it ain't going work on me so don't waste your breath," Jinx said as she took a seat on a old chair and propped her feet up on a desk.
"Why am I here?" Kori asked walking over to the bars. "I don't understand, if it's not money you want then what could I possibly offer?"
"You seriously don't know do you?" Jinx asked looking at the women. "You really don't know what you are?"
"What are you talking about?" Kori asked confused.
"Have you ever heard the legend of the Black Ocean?" Jinx asked as Kori shook her head. "Well, it's said that when the earth was first created and God brought to life creation, a mistake was made."
"A mistake?" Kori repeated. "What kind of mistake?"
"A mistake that was so dangerous that it could destroy everything he had worked so hard to make," she said watching the confused look on Kori's face. "Even Gods arn't perfect after all, right?"
"What's this story got to do with me?" Kori asked.
"Well, both God and the Devil decided that this creature was fare to powerful to have roaming the earth and God being God couldn't bring himself to destroying one of his own creations so Devil came up with a prison to lock the creature away in," Jinx said. "All prisions need keys though so they both braught forth one of thier best. An angel and demon who when united togeather on Earth, before the gates of the Black Oceans prision, would release the creature."
"Okay... I still don't understand," Kori shrugged.
"Angeles and demons can't live among humans in thier natural form so they jump from human bodies," Jinx exsplained. "They will remain dormant for 18 years unless activated. If they become activated, then the host is able to tap into the power of the angle or demon and will remain with them untill death. If not then when the host is 18 they will simple leave and find a new host."
"18?" Kori asked thinking. "My dad said I had a curse that would be lifted when I hit 18."
"Then he knows what you are," Jinx said watching Kori. "Your dads been trying to keep you dormant."
"I don't believe this," Kori said after a short pause. "I've got some demon inside of me."
"No," Jinx chuckled. "You havn't got a demon, you've got an angel. Slade's collecting the demon now. She's been activated for years, we just couldn't risk collecting her till we knew where you were."
"So your going to use me to release a creature onto earth thats so powerful that even the Devil wanted it caged?" Kori asked with a raised eyebrow. "Are you crazy?"
"He who releases it, controls it," Jinx added. "Slade will control it."
"And that doesn't sound even worse to you?" Kori said as if the women was mad. "I've heard stories of him, he's a crazy madman!"
"Your the second person to call him crazy in just over a week you know," Jinx said thinking back to Port Tamara.
"And you don't think there's some truth in it then?" Kori said angrily. "When Nightwing comes to save me, he'll put a stop to Captain Slade's plan."
"Who," Jinx asked with an amused look on her face.
"He's a hero!" Kori said. "And he'll kick Slade's ass."
"Hero?" Jinx asked thinking. "You mean that long haired guy in a mask? Last time I saw him, Slade was snapping his neck."
"What?" Kori gasped out in shocked. Jinx watched the upset in Kori's eyes and gave a sigh.
"Don't worry, he's okay," she said standing up and stepping closer to the cage. "Alice saved him."
"Who's Alice?" Kori asked unsure.
"A pirate... or at least she was," Jinx said thinking as her own expression dropped at thinking about the other women. "She took down a few of the crew at Port Tamara and saved your little Boy Wonder so I'm not really sure what she is anymore."
"She's got her!!!" Slade's voice bellowed from above as loud footsteps we're heard making thier way down the stairs.
"Oh no," Jinx said looking towards the door as Slade entered. "What's happened?"
"Alice has the demon," he growled angrily. "She knows that we're after the Black Ocean."
"How?" Jinx asked. Alice was never one to believe in legends and myths. Why now would she suddenly go through so much effert and risk for a cause she didn't believe existed... unless. "She has the map..." Jinx said thinking aloud."
"What?" Slade asked looking at his Quartermaster.
"She must have got hold of the map," Jinx explained. "She wouldn't go through all this effort to secure the demon if she didn't."
"This might actually work in our favour," Slade said after a short pause of thinking. "She'll be heading to Paradise Island."
"Why head to Paradice Island? That's where we're going," Jinx asked confused.
"I wants the Black Ocean too," Slade said looking over to Jinx. "She knows we'll be heading to Paradise Island with the angel. She'll be waiting for us."...
..."Oh this is getting good," Eric chirped in excitment.
"Why do you feel the need to interrupt me every ten minutes?" The old man asked but Eric seem too excited to care.
"So Slade knows that Alice is heading for Paradise Isand?" John asked thinking. "Is she gunna booby trap the place?"
"Somthing like that," he nodded. "She hoped that getting thier first gave her an advantage against Slade."
"I think I heard of Paradise Island before," Phil said thinking. "It's a cursed Island isn't it?"
"Yes," he nodded. "No man nor ship ever returned from Paradise Island so tbe crew wasn't sure what to encounter once thier. Hunt needed to make sure that her crew was kept busy. After all, fear is contagious so keeping the men preoccupied was a good prevention."...
..."You okay?" Hunt asked as she approached Victor.
It was a lovely calm night and the stars shone brightly above them. On the quiet nights, he found himself thinking of his mum and dad. Why did they need to die? They did nothing to hurt anyone. He wished he could have done somthing to help them.
"Yeah," he nodded watching out to sea.
"You know, I don't really remember my parents," Hunt started as she also looked out to sea. "I was so young when they died that I ended up stuck in a orphanage."
"That sucks," he admitted.
"Least you got to know your parents," she continued.
"I just get so angry when I think that they died over somthing that didn't even concern them," he said angrily. "I just can't stop thinking back to that night."
"I'm afraid only time can heal those wounds," Hunt said putting a supportive hand on his shoulder. "I can offer you a distraction though if you wish?"
"A distraction?" Victor asked looking towards her. "Like what?"
"Well, we're going to need better weaponary on board just incase we meet Slade out on sea," she started retrieving her hand back. "I always sacraficed stronger guns to keep the weight down for speed but if we come against the Four Swords, we wont be able to outrun her guns."
"I'm sure I can take a look," he said sounding intrested.
"If you need a hand then take a few of the men with you," she smiled. "But just see what you can do."
Victor felt somewhat better having somthing to keep him busy with. Hunt decided best to leave him so headed back to her cabin when she saw Raven. The women was looking a lot more healthy from that night she brought her onto the ship. she was still quite wary of the other members of the crew but it had only been two days out at sea. She dressed mainly in a dark cloak and mostly kept the hood up. She watched her for a moment as Raven tried to use her powers to pick up cannon balls but they didnt lift very well. A year heavily drugged up in a prision cell had took its tole on her. Hunt headed over.
"Hey, how you liking the life at sea?" She asked as she took a seat on a barrel.
"Great," Raven said dryly but didn't look up.
"I just been giving jobs to some of the new crew members," Hunt said but Raven still didn't look up at her.
"Am I not pulling my weight enough?" Raven asked although from her tone, she didnt really care much for the answer.
"No, your doing a fine job rolling cannonballs all over my deck," Hunt grinned as Raven rolled her eyes. "I was going to say though that we could do with someone in hold to keep the supplies tidy. Maybe you can use your powers to move bits round down thier. No one will bother you and it'll help me out."
"So that Garfield boy wont be down thier?" She asked finally looking up at the Captain.
"He's been bothering you?" Hunt asked concerned.
"No, he just doesn't stop talking," Raven admitted. "From waking up till when he finally passes out at night, all I can hear is him. It's why I've waited till night to practice."
"Yeah he does talk a fair bit," Hunt agreed. "Well if your intrested in the job then there's a store room down there you can have as a room. I can get someone to put your hammock down thier... someone who's not Garfield."
"That would be nice," Raven said with a small smile. It was the first time Hunt had seen the women smile.
"Good," Hunt smiled back. "If you ever need anything you know, just come ask, okay?"
"Sure," Raven nodded as Hunt left the women to what she was doing.
"Lets see, that's two of the newbies sorted," she said to herself as she walked along the deck. "I'm thinking Garfield will probably end up helping Victor so that just leaves one more to worry about," she said as she stopped and looked up towards the mass. "You can come down, I wont bite," she called up.
At first, nothing happened until Nightwing quietly made his presence. He climbed closer down till he could safely drop down on deck next to Hunt.
"How did you know I was here?" He asked looking at her.
"You think I don't notice stowaways on my ship?" She asked as Nightwing shrugged. "I said you could come join us. Why hide?"
"I'm not sure," he admitted. "I guess the idea of working with pirates."
"You know, these men didn't set out wanting to be pirates you know?" She said watching him. "They are good men who for different reasons, got stuck in a bad situation," she said as Nightwing went quiet. "So what made you come back?"
"I wasn't going too," he admitted. "I found an advantage point not too fare from the docks and worked out so many plans and realised, you was right. I'm one man against sea's more feared pirate.what chance do I have alone?"
"Can you just repeat the part of me being right again?" Hunt grinned as Nightwing rolled his eyes.
"You know Slade better than anyone a board so you stand the best chance to defeating him," he said. "United we stand, right?"
"Right," Hunt agreed. "We'll get your girl back, don't worry," she said. "The crew will be training tomorrow. Slade's crew are good fighters so we need to be better ones and as for Slade himself, he's undefeated. "
"Then how do we stop a man who's undeafeated?" Nightwing asked unsure.
"We cut off his links," she said simply. "When we hit Paradise Island, we trap the area so it's in our favour, get him away from his ship, his crew and his Quartermaster. Join my men tomorrow. Teach them and learn from them, we need to be ready."
"Okay," he nodded with a smile.
"And stop sneeking round the ship, your making my men nervous," she said as she turned to leave. "Last thing I need is the men thinking the ship's haunted."...
..."Nightwing was back on the ship?" John asked as the old man relit his pipe.
"Yeah he snuck just as they were leaving," the old man nodded. "he came to his sences and realised that running in guns blazing was not the best way to go. He needed help and Captain Hunt was happy to offer that to him."...
...Alice woke up as she felt the bed next to her begin to move as somebody got up. She cracked open a eye to see a dark figure getting up and starting to get dressed. She sat up and watched for a moment before finally speaking.
"Where you off to, Jinx?" She asked rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"Hey, I thought you was asleep still," Jinx said turning to face her. "Slade wanted my help this morning. He's got some buissness on the beach and wants a few of us there incase things go south."
"He didn't ask for me?" Alice asked looking unsure.
"No, he said not to worry you after what happened on the last plunder," Jinx said tied up her boots.
"He doesn't trust me any more?" Alice asked looking down at the bedsheets.
"You went against his orders, Alice." Jinx said sitting back on the bed and putting a hand on Alice's shoulder. "Give him a bit of time and just brown nose for a while. Everything will be back to normal before you know it."
"Yeah," Alice nodded looking back up at the pink haired women.
"I got to go," Jinx said about to stand up till Alice pulled her back down.
"Keep safe, yeah?" Hunt smiled before leaning in to give Jinx a small kiss on the lips.
"I always do," Jinx smirked back then jumped onto her feet and headed out the room.
Alice then snuggled back into bed. The sun hadn't even started to peek up yet so she could get a few more hours sleep till she needed to get up and back to the ship. They had been at Gotham Point just over a week and this was thier last night before heading back onto sea. She had just started dozing off when a shiver ran down her spine. She opened her eyes just in time to see the butt of a rifle slam down into her face knocking her out. As she came in and out of contioness, she remembers being dragged to the docks then across the deck of the Four Swords before waking up fully in the prisioner houseing, chained to the wall. She tried to shake the pounding head ache before noticing the five men standing before her.
"What's going on?" She asked in a daze.
"Hello Alice," Slade said as he walked to the front of the men.
"What's happening, Captain?" She asked starting to feel panicked.
"You know Alice, the one thing I hate more than anything in the world, is being told no," he said in his usal calm, cold tone. "When I ask for somthing to be done, I exspect it to be done and more so from my Quartermaster."
"They were just kids, Captain..." Alice tried to exsplain before Slade's fist shot out and into her stomach taking her breath away.
"When I give out orders, those orders are to be followed," he carried on.
"I'm sorry," she said looking up at him. "It wont happen again, I promise. "
"No, it won't," he said as he gave a nod to the men.
They advance onto Alice and began a savage beating of punches and kicks. She was used as a living punching bag as the men laid into her. Several miniuts passed till Slade called them back. Alice, though still conscious, was covered in blood and bruises. Two of the men dragged a large chest over.
"No," she managed to mumble as they opened the chest and unchained Alice from the wall.
"You," Slade said looking at one of the men. "Did you get her things from the room?"
"Yes sir," he said showing Slade a bag.
"Good," Slade said. "Burn it all. As fare as anyone knows, she's left us and ran away. I don't want Jinx to find out," he said as they dragged Alice to the chest and dropped her in, too weak to fight back as Slade walked over to her. "I can't afford to loose both of my best, now can I?" He said before closing the chest up and attaching a large pad lock.
Hunt shot up in bed, cold sweat dripping from her as the memories still flooding her head. She remembered being taken to the fare south of Gotham Point and the sound of sand on the chest as they burried her alive. If it wasn't for those two homless men thinking Slade was burying treasure, she would have died down there. She looked round and noticed it was light out. She had overslept. Getting up, she got dressed and quickly washed the sweat from her face before heading out on deck where she noticed the men dueling with each other. She spotted Nightwing easily fighting back three men with his bo-staff. After a while they stopped to take a break.
"Your good," Roy said giving him a pat on the back.
"Yeah," Wally agreed.
"Think I've got a good chance agaonst Slade?" Nightwing asked as he helped himself to a drink from a wooden bucket.
"Maybe," Hunt said heading over. "Problem is, is if he finds your weakness."
"What you mean?" Nightwing asked.
"Well, Slade's greatest strengh is his patients," Hunt exsplained. "He will seek out your weaknesses and use it to his advantage."
"Kori?" Nightwing said after a moment.
"What will you do if your up against Slade and he gives you the option of your life for hers?" She asked watching Nightwing carefully. "In truth, who knows all the things he's already done to her."
"He better not touch her," Nightwing growled as his fist tightened.
"His men have probably had thier way with her already," she said as Nightwing turned to her.
"Shut up," he warned as she started to circle him.
"I'm only saying" she said as he readied the bo staff. "All those men stuck on a ship togeather with her..."
And with that he lashed forwards with the bo staff. Hunt quickly drew her sword and easily blocked the attack. He came at her again and again only for her to block. He raised the bo staff up about to slam it down before Hunt kicked him in the gutt. She then quickly grabbed the bo staff and swung round her other foot making contact with Nightwing's feet taking him to the ground with a thud.
"Oh, that's got to hurt," Roy hissed as Wally chuckled.
"Kori's not your weakness," Hunt said watching the lad rub his head. "Your anger is."
"What?" Nightwing asked looking up at the Captain.
"Kori is too valuable to him, he'll make sure she's safe," she said holding out a hand to help him up. "You're a good fighter but when you get mad you get rash and sloppy. Slade will pick up on that and use that to his advantage," she said as Nightwing took her hand and pulled himself back to his feet. "We all have weaknesses."
"Even Slade?" He asked her as she passed him his bo staff.
"Yes," she said nodding. "It's just a case of finding what it is."...
..."Do they find out what it is?" Eric asked as the old man stood up. "Please don't tell me your leaving it thier."
"It's getting late my boy," he smiled. "I need my beautie sleep. Till tomorrow lad," he waved as he headed off.
