At the Dower house...
Robert and Violet speaking about James Carrey.
"Mama I cannot believe that you would hire Matthew to investigate Mr. Carrey." said an outraged Robert.
"Robert, I did not hire him. I only asked him to do some research to see if James was who he says he is." replied Violet.
Just then Mary burst into the room with an unreadable expression on her face.
"What is it, Mary? " asked Violet.
" Is it true?" Mary asked diriecting her question to Violet.
" Is what true?" Violet replied.
" Did you really ask Matthew to look into Grandpapa?" Persisted Mary.
"I was worried he wasn't who he said he was. How did you find out? " replied Violet.
"Matthew told me. Papa did you know about this as well?" replied and asked Mary.
" Granny told me this afternoon. How is Edith getting on in London?" Robert asked Mary.
Mary replied that she was in a meeting and then excused herself.
As Mary left the house Spratt came into the room quickly.
"My Lord, You have an urgent telephone call." He said
Then Robert went to the phone.
Violet had a hunch that she knew what this call was and she thought, " Now to see if Mary will really marry Matthew."
Meanwhile in London...
Edith has now been in the meeting with Michael's lawyer for quite some time.
"You are needed to testify in the trial of Antony Gregson." he replied.
"I don't understand. I thought that Antony was found guilty when the police arrested him?" she replied.
" He was suspected guilty. The officer who arrested him will also be testifying. I believe that is all we needed to meet for." He said as he looked down at a sheet of paper. " Ah, yes it was. Thank you for your time, I'll send a telegram when the date for the trial has been set." He continued.
"You are welcome, good day, Sir." she replied and walked out.
As Edith walked to the Ivy she heard her name being called. When she turned around to see who was calling her she slipped and almost fell. But, once again Bertie Pelham caught her."
"Are you quite all right, Edith?" He asked.
" Oh, Thank you Bertie! Yes, I am fine." Edith exclaimed as she straightened herself up.
"You are most welcome." he replied, "How did the meeting go?" he asked.
Edith had told him about the meeting with the lawyer the night before. They had planned to meet at the Ivy for luncheon.
" It seemed to go well. How are things in Northumberland?" she asked.
"Quite well. Lord Hexham is away for the week, so I will be here in London to tend to his business so he will see the report when he returns."
They then arrived at the Ivy.
Back At Downton...
Robert rushed into the house and nearly crashed into Sybil who was running out.
"How is she? Is Doctor Clarkson here yet?" Robert questioned quickly.
" No he is not here yet. He is on his way right now, but he told me to send for cousin Isobel because she can calm Mama down." Sybil said as she crossed quickly to the phone. To call Isobel and Edith.
At the Crawley House ...
Mary had gone to the Crawley house to speak with Matthew.
" I do know now why you decided not to tell me." Mary said.
" Thank you for understanding." said a relieved Matthew.
Just then Isobel came in.
"We best go to Downton quickly. Lady Cora is in labor."
"What?" Asked both Mary and Matthew in shocked tones.
" Yes, I am needed there now." she replied.
They all quickly made it to Downton.
