Now that Elijah was somewhere around in town Klaus had to be extra careful not to cross paths with him. He had spent most of the day at the apartment except for when he went to go check on Caroline. She was still at school dealing with some kind of function. She really liked doing those kinds of things, so he left her alone. He checked on Katherine who apparently had been compelled by Elijah to stay in the tomb.
"He said I had to stay in here because when you come, you would want to know exactly where I'm at" Katherine explained. "So can I leave now?" She asked. "I can't break Elijah's compulsion, you're going to have to wait" Klaus answered. Katherine just sighed and made her way to the back of the tomb. She was so weak from not having blood.
A few hours later, Klaus and Maddox were at the grill. They had followed Jules there. Klaus still had to keep an eye on her to make sure she stayed alive for the sacrifice. And last time he had sent Maddox by himself to go check on his vampire and werewolf, he was stabbed in the back. So he had to keep check himself.
Tyler had came and sat across from her. This really struck Klaus's curiosity. "Now, what's he doing here" Klaus whispered to himself.
"I know about Mason" Jules said "And you" She added. Apparently, since Mason had been gone Tyler had been leaving voicemails that she had heard. Tyler hadn't activated his gene yet but he was really worried he was going to. He wanted Mason to be close for whenever he did, if he did.
She explained to Tyler that she was his friend and she could be there for him. She explained how Mystic Falls was crawling with vampires. Tyler was shocked, Mason never told him anything about Vampires. "How can there be Vampires?" Tyler asked quietly. She had informed him that the vampires in town had actually killed Mason. And they were other werewolves on their way.
"Interesting" Klaus thought to himself. He could make more hybrids. "They'll be here to pick a fight" Maddox said. Klaus knew why Maddox said that. "Relax, I'm not going to interfere with anything. Although it would be nice to keep a few werewolves for after the sacrifice" Klaus replied while remembering his long journey with Stefan when they were looking for werewolves. But he decided to just to see how things go before making any real decisions on the matter.
It was a new a day and Klaus was preparing for Jules pack to arrive in town. He didn't want to interfere but they would probably sniff out Caroline. He had to protect her. He went straight to her house that day.
"Nik" she said as she opened the door. He looked in her eyes "I need you to stay inside today" he said trying to compel her. "Okay... um why? She asked confused. He realized the compulsion didn't work. "You're drinking vervain?" He asked. "Yeah ever since we figured out that original vampires can compel other vampires" she replied crossing her arms waiting for his response.
Klaus looked down to the ground because he knew she was waiting for him to explain himself. "Are you here with a Elijah?" She asked as she also looked down at the ground too. "No." He said as he looked up in her eyes. "Then why do you want me to stay inside" she asked still waiting for answers. "You will find out soon enough. Please just stay safe." Klaus said as he vamped away. He couldn't really tell her anything without telling it all. And when she mentioned Elijah, he remembered that he couldn't be out in the open. Risking Elijah seeing him. And chances are that if Elijah gave his word to protect them he would probably be keeping a close eye.
Later on at that night Klaus kept getting a strange gut feeling that Caroline would ignore his warning. She was young and didn't really understand the dangers around her. It wasn't helping that Mason was in his ear all evening talking about Jules's pack and how they love to hunt down and torture vampires. Mason had told them about their RV and how they would most likely be in the woods. Klaus decided to go check it out.
Klaus heard screaming in the far distance. Deep in the woods. He thought it sounded like Caroline but he was hoping he was wrong. But the closer he got, the more he realized it was Caroline. All of a sudden Maddox was in front of him. "You can't." He said to Klaus. " Step down, Mate. I like you and you're a good warlock. But I will kill you" klaus said quietly and calmly. Maddox stepped aside bc he knew Klaus meant business.
He vamped in the RV and saw Caroline in a cage. He was in and out so fast, the others was too busy talking. They didn't even notice. He took her back to her house. "He had a squirt gun with vervain in it." Caroline said while sniffling. "Don't worry love, you're safe now." Klaus said hugging her. "Why would they do that" she asked trying to make sense of it all. "Hush now, sweetheart. It's all over.. get some rest." He said still comforting her. Caroline went inside and was picking all the little tooth picks of wood they had shot her with. Stefan had knocked on the door. "Are you okay? How did you get out?" Stefan asked. "I'm fine, I escaped when you guys came and distracted them" she replied. She couldn't really tell him that Nik had saved her because she was still under his compulsion. Stefan had Elena and Bonnie with him. They were going to stay the night since Caroline had a rough day.
Klaus was watching closely as the girls entered the home and Stefan left. He went back to the RV hoping to break skulls. He wanted hybrids but he didn't like anyone torturing Caroline. He spotted Maddox in the woods. "You're still here" klaus asked. "I knew you would be back" Maddox replied.
"And you failed to mention that Elijah had a witch." He added in. "That's because I didn't know he had one" klaus said. Maddox begin to explain that it was Greta's father and that they were probably working together to kill him. "You got lucky, you wasn't spotted" Maddox explained. "Was I suppose to sit back and watch Caroline suffer?" Klaus asked. "So Elijah must be keeping good on his word and keeping everyone safe." Klaus thought out loud. "Oh yeah, one more thing" Maddox interrupted klaus's thoughts. "The wolves know about the moonstone, they think the vampires are getting ready to break the sun and moon curse. They were pressing Tyler for answers. Apparently, he mentioned it on a voicemail to Mason" Maddox explained. "That could be a problem" klaus said. "But then again maybe that's how it's suppose to be" he added. Klaus felt like he had already messed up the chain of events that lead to the sacrifice. "Mason was going to die and the pack was going to come up here anyways" Maddox said. "Your girl is safe, I think we should just go hide out" Maddox added. Klaus wanted to wreck havoc for what the wolves had done to Caroline. But he agreed and left with Maddox.
