Chapter 8: "Lois and Clark...(Waited for Superman)"
Ruby Slippers…
After Fitz drove away from the dance competition, the girls begged him to take a drive around the city. Since it was not a school night, he didn't see a problem with it. He hit the window for Tom and made the necessary arrangements. He also did not want to head back to the White House because his mind, heart and body were reeling from that kiss he shared with Olivia.
Nina and Bells were chatting with Andrew and Abby as they began to drive around the city. Inside he was aching to turn the car around, heading back to Olivia. Every part of his body-soul was begging to return to her side. He knew he left her a complete mess from the kiss they shared; but it confirmed something for him, he had been denying. He was falling for her; hard and fast.
The moment they connected eyes the first night of the competition it happened, he knew that now. Bellamy's prediction had come true. Her words of finding love, his soul mate became a reality the night his eyes connected with Olivia's on the dance floor. At the time he did not know it happened, but now, after that perfect kiss, he knew it. He felt it in more than just his heart; she was in all of him, and he was determined not let her slip away.
Life wasn't a fairy tale, Fitz knew that first hand. If it was, he would not have lost Bellamy at all. She would have lived and they would have had a remarkable life together. He loved her with every part of his being; soul – everything. Bellamy was his conscience, and heart of things. She helped him make correct decisions. She was perfect for him in every way, and he thought he could never move on after finding her.
His parent's, and sister silently hoped he would begin to date while he was Governor but he couldn't even look at another woman. That became harder during his Presidential campaign and once he won the election. He took Nina and Bells as "his date" for some of the Inaugural Balls, but once it hit passed 8:00 pm, he sent them home to bed. Fitz did not think he could ever have those feelings for another woman; and he doesn't.
What he feels for Olivia is SO much more powerful and consuming then anything he's felt before. She is in his veins, in his blood stream, making him no longer question his vitality. Her ONE KISS did that. He can feel her life 'force' flowing through his body after that kiss they shared. That one kiss changed his entire reason for being. In those mere minutes his lips were on hers, Fitz came to the realization that he HAD to have Olivia Pope in his life.
He just didn't want her to teach him to dance, he wanted it all. The dancing lessons, the fights, Sunday dinners and cold pizza for breakfast. Fitz wanted the happy times with Nina and Bells to be shared with Olivia. Most all of if she would give it to him, he wanted her heart. If he won – NO EARNED her heart, he in turn- would earn her love. That is something worth fighting for and boy was he in for a fight.
Fitz IS the most Powerful Man in the World and Olivia Carolyn Pope; all five foot two of her scares the living shit of out him. He tackles the country's most difficult problems, figuring them out so he can protect and care for this Great Nation. But Olivia is, he stopped and thought about it, trying to make sense of it in his mind. She is a puzzle he is willing to risk everything on it to figure it out.
As he thought about her, he looked out the window and saw a billboard for the show "Once Upon A Time." On it he saw a pair of ruby slippers, yellow brick road, and it would appear the Wicked West of heading into some small town called Storybrooke. Across the yellow brick road he saw the words, "Home is only three clicks away from a happy ending…or it is?"
As he read the words a second time, Fitz's heart began to race within his chest. He wanted HIS own happy ending. Fitz had his dream job, and two beautiful daughters. But living in the White House alone was lonely. Sometimes it didn't feel like home. Yes it was where he slept at night, and went to work. But it never felt like home, until now. Olivia is his happy ending; bringing light into his family's life where there was only darkness before.
Kissing Olivia, feeling her soft lips pressed against his for the first time, moving in sync to their own rhythm was better than a dream. That kiss brought him to life and gave him a purpose. She brought illumination into his darkened heart; a heart he swore died when he lost Bellamy.
Loosing Bellamy placed Fitz and the girls in such a dark place. Even though he knew it, he didn't admit it to anyone, especially himself. He threw himself into his work, and eventually ran for the Presidency. Fitz made a promise to run and win the election. With his parents support and their love, he won the election and became President. They never pressured him to move on from Bellamy but deep down he knew his mother hoped he would.
Now it would seem that fate stepped into his life with dancing shoes. He looked over at Abby and Andrew, who were both smiling at each other and him. The girls crawled over to his side of the car and snuggled up to his sides. Just as the car made it to the Mirror Refection Pool and Lincoln Memorial the girls asked him if they could get out.
"Please Daddy," Nina began first.
"Girls the Secret Service will have a hissy fit if we get out. You know the area needs to be cleared first," Fitz explained. As Fitz looked out the window he did notice that there was hardly anyone there. He looked at Abby and Andrew who didn't voice any objection to the twin's request.
"Daddy," Bells pouted next. "We hardly EVER get to do anything. Just for a few minutes okay. If the agents aren't okay with it, is there a park nearby."
Fitz watched Abby check her phone and luckily there was one close by. It had a gate and the Secret Service could control who entered the premises. Fitz nodded to Abby and she phoned Tom up ahead. Tom opened the partition. "Sir, it is dark and it would be better for everyone involved if we did this tomorrow afternoon. It will give the agents time to secure the area."
Fitz let out a sigh and looked down at Nina and Bells. "Girls…," he began to say but they stopped him, by grabbing his hands and giving it a hard squeeze.
"We know Daddy. But do you promise to take us tomorrow," Isabelle said looking over at Abby with the biggest pout face and puppy dog eyes.
"Ant Abby won't book your schedule too much will she," Nina whined next. "Right?"
Abby looked down and checked Fitz's schedule. "You have a few hours in the afternoon Sir and a light morning. I do KNOW ladies that your Dad spends as much time as he can with you on the weekends. Luckily for your Dad he was good this week and finished everything he was asked to."
"So he get a kitchen pass," Andrew quipped. Abby pinched his arm, making Andrew nudge her back. "Do I get to come too?"
"I don't know Mr. Vice President I'll pass your Chief of Staff a note in study hall and see what they say," Abby winked at him. Andrew's heart fluttered slightly seeing this side of her. Maybe she did like him.
"I think someone might get VEEPED," Fitz giggled, causing Andrew to blush profusely and Abby to bury herself in her tablet. Fitz had always known that Andrew had a thing for Abby. He saw her crying the other day in her office and heard from Lauren that she had broken up with David. He knew she could talk to him about it if need be, but he was sure Olivia must know now.
For the rest of the ride back to the White House the kids snuggled up against his sides. Andrew and Abby talked to each other. As they approached Pennsylvania Avenue, he saw Abby's phone light up and saw Olivia's name.
/
Tow Truck…Two Step…
"What," Abby grinned looked at Fitz, who eyes were focused on her. "What do you mean it won't start?"
"I don't know Abby. My car is like DEAD okay. Do I look like a mechanic to you," Olivia bellowed in the line. Andrew heard her and gulped. "Max swore his mechanic fixed it. I pulled out of the dance studio and made it five minutes down the block. The car just turned off and died. I can't get it to turn over or anything. I have no juice…"
Fitz heard the distress in her voice and began to worry where she could be. He did not know the area well enough around the competition site and that gave him an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He wanted to reach for Abby's phone but the girls clung to his chest tighter to sooth him.
"Damn she's pissed," Andrew mumbled out loud.
"Is that the Vice President," Olivia whined. "Wait, are you in the car with everyone."
"Yes, Liv we just turned onto Pennsylvania Avenue. We're almost at the gates. Do you need a ride," Abby asked looking directly at Fitz.
"I called a tow truck. They'll be here in a bit," Olivia explained.
"Abby what does she need. We have to get to her," Fitz voiced his concerns loud enough for her to hear him. The sound of his voice calmed her down but she was still upset. She was stuck on the side of the road surrounded by trees and a few small street lights.
"Can you….," Olivia stopped before she could finish her statement. Fitz heard the fear in her voice and felt the urge to go to her right now. Security - be damned.
"Yes I'll be there as soon as the agents park the motorcade," causing Fitz breath out quickly. "And to ensure the President makes it safely inside the Residence."
"Abigail," Fitz grumbled. "I can take care of myself." But, the truth be told if he had the opportunity to see Olivia again he was going to take it. The thought of her being stranded did not sit well with him at all. He wanted to pull her close, feel her against his body, ensuring that she was all right. "And tell the President I'm fine."
"We are so past the President shit," he spoke so she could hear him.
"Daddy no swearing," Nina corrected her father. "You know Momma would whoop your butt if she heard you."
"Yah Daddy. We get to the residence you have to put money in the curse jar now," Bells eyed Fitz next. Fitz smiled at his daughters, knowing they had him. "If you don't you don't get to see Livy."
Olivia began to protest to Fitz possibly coming to her aid but Abby assured her she had it handled. "Liv don't worry. Text me where you are and I'll be there. We're here now." Olivia did what she was asked and hung up the phone. For the next 15 minutes, Olivia sat in her car with the hazard lights on goggling what could be wrong with her car. This happened once before but her car restarted without any problems.
As she searched endlessly on her phone, she saw headlines behind her and Abby's car pull behind her. The tow truck had not arrived yet but they said it could be another 15 minutes to a half hour. Now that Abby was there, she was not worried about being alone in the middle of nowhere any more. The lights behind her stayed on so she could see, and she climbed out of her car.
When she stepped out of her car, she yelled. "Still no tow truck Ab's. I'm surprised you made it without Lover Boy," referring to Fitz.
"Who's say's she didn't," Fitz answered walking to her.
Olivia looked up in shock. "Mr. President," she squeaked.
"Olivia we are SO past the President shit don't you think," wiggling his eyes. She swallowed quickly as he approached her like a cat ready to pounce on its prey. Yes she had just seen him not even an hour ago, but he looked even more handsome with the lights from the vehicle behind him. He had this mischievous grin on his face with his hands in his pockets.
"How…," she stammered at a loss for words.
"I told Abby to let me come or I'd fire her," Fitz teased.
"You better not had," backing away from him. "Are you out of your damn mind? Someone could see you. Go back to you SUV. Where's Tom and the other agents," she groaned next. It's not that she wasn't happy to see him but this was not what she expected. There was no one around but someone could drive by any minute and see them together. The last things she wanted, was to make the morning papers because the President of the United States came to her aid.
"My agents blocked off the street a half a mile behind us and in front of us. My tow truck is on the way here to take your car to the White House garage to be repaired. Abby cancelled the other tow truck driver. I am handling this now," approaching her with his eyes softening. "Are you hurt?"
The gentleness in his voice was unmistakable. It warmed her heart but she couldn't give into him this easy. "Does it look I'm hurt? My car broke down. I'm not broken." Fitz grinned as he walked to her door and opened it. She squinted not sure what he was doing, until she heard her hood of her car pop open. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Checking your engine," he nonchalantly said as he walked passed her kissing her cheek.
"You CAN'T JUST check my engine," she admonished. She blocked his path. Anytime he tried to move in front of her, she "danced" in front of Fitz. Fitz smiled seeing them "dancing" on the side of the road. They were perfectly moving in sync from side to side. Finally she had about enough and screamed. "Will YOU STOP IT!"
"No," he mischievously told her. "But I was actually dancing there for a minute. We're doing the Tow Truck – Two Step. It's a new dance. I just made it up."
"Oh for heaven's sake," she waved her hands up in the air. "God you're incorrigible, and so frustrating," placing her hands on her hips, challenging him to move past her.
"It's nice to know the feeling is mutual. Now," he began to move past her again.
"You are NOT checking engine Mr. Pres…," but she was halted in her words when pulled her body flush against his, crashing their pelvis' together. Instantly she felt his reaction to her, causing her cheeks flush with embarrassment. He then moved forward and pressed her body against her car, and towered over her.
"I am checking YOUR engine Livy, so deal with it. But are you sure you're all right," she heard the unmistakable concern in his voice causing her heart to flutter. She felt butterflies in her belly as she gazed into his blue eyes.
"I'm fine," he began to protest but she silenced him by placing her fingers over his lips. "I swear."
"Good," he softly caressed her face. "If something would have happened to you out here all alone I don't know what I would have done," he pressed his forehead to her. Then she felt his other hand on her face. "I needed to know you were safe. I HAD to know you were okay." He lifted her chin so he could gaze deep in her eyes.
"So now you see me. You should go before someone sees you," attempting to break free of his hold on her.
"I'm not going away," he voiced in a tone that sent shivers down her spine. "I can't leave you," hearing the agony of something happening to her and he couldn't help her. This was more than just about her car breaking down. It had to do with the loss of his wife. Abby never told her what happened but she did know that it changed him forever.
"Nothing is GOING to happen to me…," she paused. "Fitz," giving him a smile, and warming his heart in a way he's never felt before. He's never asked her to call him 'Fitz.' But when she does, his name sounds like prayer saving him from the darkness time and again.
"Liv," he murmurs moving his body closer. Everything about her he now craves. Just being around her wasn't enough. He had to encase her in his arms, to feel the warmth from her body against him. It made him feel whole, alive and wanting to be a better man for her and the girls.
"You shouldn't be here," she whimpered, keeping her hands on the sides of jacket.
"I know," he ran his hands down her shoulders and then arms. "I HAD to see you again." He pressed his lips to her forehead causing them both to exhale. She closed her eyes and relished in the feel of his lips on her skin. Their softness was just as she remembered but better. Fitz felt her relax, and eventually she gave him the softest smile.
Fitz raised his eyes, seeing it emerge on her lips. "What?" Olivia closed her eyes and let out a breath. "Liv?"
"Thank you," finally saying the words out loud.
Fitz backed away slightly but kept his body close and his arms wrapped around her body. "Are you really thanking me? You're not going to yell at me anymore or step on my toes?"
Despite how much she wanted to punish him for risking his security to come to her aid, she found herself unable to say anything. Here is the most Powerful Man in the World, risking everything to fix her car. He didn't have to but if she didn't know by now, he'd do anything for her. She nodded her head no and placed both her hands on his face.
Fitz raised his eyes and grinned. "But don't do it again. I'm not worth…,"
"Olivia don't you dare," he voiced in a tone that sent vibrations down her spinal column. "You could have been hurt," he admitted. She heard the anguish in his voice and saw it in his eyes.
"Well I wasn't," she whimpered. "I'm fine."
"Promise," Fitz whimpered aching to kiss her again. He raised his voice and stared longingly into her eyes and then down to her lips. She swallowed quickly seeing him lower his head.
"Fitz," she uttered his name breathlessly. His hands were rubbing her back. She saw him bend his knees so he could look in her eyes. "We can't," moving her head away. "That first kiss was….
"Everything," rubbing his nose against her cheek, unable to deny himself what he's been missing for so long.
"This has to stop," she uttered before he closed the distance.
"Livy," he moaned. "I can't stop. Can you?"
"This is crazy," she blurted out. "You and me - we can't happen. This is wrong. I am wrong for…," but was silenced when he pressed his lips to hers once again. The kiss was light and sweet. He did not push to deepen the kiss or attempt to slide his tongue into her mouth. She sighed in his lips as they stayed pressed against hers for over a half a minute.
When he finally pulled back, he cupped her face in his hands. He ran his thumb over her puckered lips and kissed her lightly again. This time it was quick, making her jump. She opened her eyes and felt the air leave her body, and Fitz mimic her exactly. They were breathing in sync, not paying attention to anything around them.
"I'm fixing things now if you hadn't noticed," he stared into her eyes. "So deal with it Miss Pope because I'll fight you and win," winking.
"For now you can win, but when we're on the dance floor you BEST remember I am in charge," she finally moved away from him.
"So you'll teach me then," he voiced with hope.
"We'll see Mr. President," she bit her lip and finally saw the tow truck coming. The driver looked into the hood but couldn't make out what was wrong. He then took her car to the White House Garage and Fitz was allowed to take her home. They talked only a little bit on the way to her residence. Fitz left his hand on the seat next to her, hoping she'd take it.
/
"Lois and Clark…"
"Really slick you know," biting her lip, finally placing it in his palm. His fingers closed and brought it to his lips. Fitz brushed his lips lightly against her hand, allowing her to feel his hot breath wash over her. She bit her lip, allowing her body's butterflies to spread their wings in her stomach. Never had a man kissed her hand so gently before. He was treating her like priceless glass that could break at any moment.
"But you're holding my hand and I've gotten to kiss you four times now. I think I'm doing pretty good," leaning his head forward and watched her. She closed her eyes but kept looking straight ahead. "This was the best NON first date I've ever had."
Then she turned to face him with her eyes wide. "This WAS NOT a date or NON first date. Picking up damsels in distress on the side of the road, is NOT a date. And I never said I would go out with you, or anything of the sort," she finished sternly making Fitz laugh in the car. "There is NO us," doing her best to remain stern with him.
Fitz chuckled at her explanation. "This wasn't a date Olivia. I said that. So IF I REALLY asked you out, would you do go out with me," Fitz whispered into her skin. "You KNOW you want to," she began to protest but he stopped her. "If you didn't you wouldn't let me keep kissing you."
"Who said I wanted you to keep kissing me," she folded her arms, leaned away from him, and watching him closely. "I never said…," Fitz inched closer, making her so nervous she wanted to jump away from him. He saw her nervousness in her eyes and grinned mischievously. He ran his thumb against her lips, causing her breathing to hitch.
"Then why did you allow me to before I left with the kids after the competition. How come it happened again while we waited for the tow truck? If you really don't like kissing me or want it, why haven't you stopped me huh," he raised his voice, challenging her further. "You want THIS," moving his hand between them back and forth. "You just don't want to admit that you are HIGHLY attracted to me."
"I'm not answering that," Olivia huffed.
"You don't have to Livy. Your beautiful eyes tell me everything I need to know," he admitted and slid his arm underneath her pulling her close. "And by the way I think you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I am more than just attracted to you. I want ALL of you."
She pulled back slightly and stared at him. He kissed her temple, allowing his lips to linger on her skin for as long as possible. As they rode the rest of the way, she rested her forehead into the crook of his neck, giving Fitz permission to encase her in his arms. He loved how she felt in his arms and was not eager for their evening to end.
As the car stopped when he reached her residence, she saw Tom get out. Fitz let out a labored breath, knowing he would have to let her go. He would give anything to take her home with him. She finally leaned up to look into his eyes. "Thanks for Saving Me tonight."
"You're welcome." He normally had no trouble saying goodnight to a woman but he could not bring himself to release her. He reached up and caressed her face lightly with his fingers wanting to feel her skin against his own. Touching her – feeling, caressing, running his hands over her body, only heightened his need to be with her. He was happily married man for ten years, but it NEVER felt like this. "Liv?"
"You were right by the way," reaching for the door handle.
"About," now moving forward to look in her eyes.
"Waiting for Superman," was all she said. Before Fitz could respond she leaned over and kissed his lips. Her open mouth kisses caused Fitz to moan out loud and lean them back in the seat. He found himself wrapping his arms around her tightly. He ran his hand over her torso and cupped her face. She sighed as he kissed her with even more passion. Their mouths said everything no words could express and she allowed herself to want him.
When they finally broke apart, both were breathing heavily. Fitz was completely in a daze as Olivia whispered over his lips, "Goodnight Clark."
He opened his eyes to see her out of his arms and almost out the car door. He reached for her hand, just making it before she left the bullet proof SUV. She felt his face against her open palm and turned to face Fitz. "Goodnight Lois. Sunday…,"
"Meh," she pressed her lips together. "It's NOT a date Mr. President."
"I didn't say it was a date," adding for good measure. "It's our FIRST dancing lesson."
"Ah huh," she shook her head and finished stepping out of the car.
Just as she was about to close the car door Fitz then told her, "Trust me you'll know when I ask you out for real. Being President has its perks."
She waved her hand and stepped away from him towards her building. Tom closed the door and Fitz watched her in the car until she was safely inside. He saw her lean against the wall, and fan herself inside the glass doors.
"I've still got it Tom," he laughed seeing Olivia's reaction.
"Yes Sir. Just don't invite her to kick it in your crib and have some noodles okay," Tom chucked in the front. Fitz broke out laughing along with the agents and they headed back to the White House. He did not the faintest idea where they were to each other, but he knew one thing for certain. Olivia Pope was going to be his no matter the cost.
As she stepped onto the elevator, Olivia was in a complete haze. She could not believe what was transpiring between her and The President of the United States. She grinned like a silly school girl, feeling happy for the first time in forever. Her fingers were over her lips as she could still feel Fitz pressed against. She actually missed him and he just left.
"I've got to be crazy," Olivia voiced out loud as she stepped off the elevator and made it to her door.
"Who's got you smiling tonight darling," she heard the voice behind her and bit her lip.
"No one," she finished turning the key to her apartment.
"Oh no. I saw the President at the competition tonight. And I'm pretty sure that was his SUV with the agents that just dropped you off," the person question. "I saw enough through the open car door to know it was him."
Olivia turned around and stared at them. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh no," they approached her. "We'll how about we go sit inside and you can tell me all about it then."
"I'm…," Olivia stammered.
"Come on darling, I ain't getting any younger," the person said as they walked passed her.
"Oh hell," Olivia voiced and walked into her apartment …

*Drops Dancing Shoes and runs….
I KNOW I apologize for not updating on #TGIT and this story sooner. I had some writer's block and this chapter just kind of happened. I realize it's not as long but there is a lot going on for me right now and TRUST ME I was lucky to do this today. (Only 1000 words were typed previously.)
So tell me darlings what do you think of Fitz's feeling for her? Yes he's falling for her HARD and fast. The kiss did it for him, you think. Then Abby and Andrew…sparks are flying.
Olivia's car shit the bed. This happened to me this week driving on the highway and it's not fun. Luckily I was able to get going again, because I would have had NO FITZ to save me. That section was paying respects to #SavingGrace. I hope those who read that remember. ;-)
And you also got some #OlitzKissyKissy. That was not planned but after Thursday night I figured we all were in need of some warm fuzzies.
Anyway please leave me your #JudgesScore on your way out. Remember the more you type, the more I give back. Something tells me you want to know who just walked into Liv's apt. Right?
Take care my loves…
