Hello everyone! Sorry for the wait. Here's the next chapter! I hope you like it.
Emily POV
I awoke with a killer headache. I went to rub my head, but then I realized I couldn't move.
I was tied to a chair. My hands were tied behind my back and my feet were tied to the legs of the chair. My attackers must have taken my vest and jacket off because I was just in my t-shirt and jeans. I was gagged.
I tested to see how strong the ropes were. I tried to pulled my arms apart to no avail. I jumped in the seat, trying to kick my legs. Nothing worked.
I stopped and took in my surroundings. It was an empty room. The walls were lined, no transmissions coming in or out, no GPS or tracking either. Solid walls. Nothing could knock those down.
I whipped my head around when I heard a door open. Solid enforced steel, locked from the outside.
Three people walked in with black skin on their faces. It was like a second skin that acted as a mask, distorting the features of the face, hiding the identity of the user. Facial recognition would be useless.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" The first man through the door spoke. I narrowed my eyes in anger. The two following men through the door were armed and had black skins on. One dragged in a chair.
The first man took the chair and sat down in it, facing me.
"Officer Emily Clark, I believe." He gave me a sickening smile.
I mumbled my words.
"What's that?" He asked, chuckling.
I mumbled again.
"Hold on." He pulled out my gag.
"Don't you think it's a bit rude that I don't know your name?" I asked.
"I'm so sorry, I do apologize. Alex Hale." He held out a hand.
I stared at his covered face. The only features I could see were his brown eyes.
"Sorry." Hale retracted his hand. "I see you and your team found our decoy hideout." He stood up, walking around me.
"Decoy?" I asked.
"It was an ambush, dear. I hope you realized that." Hale put a hand on my shoulder. I shook him off.
"Ooh, Feisty." He whispered.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"What do I want?" Hale repeated. "I want retribution." He explained.
"Retribution for what?" I asked as he came to face me.
"That's for you to find out." Hale slyly smiled.
"But-" I started. He slipped the gag back into my mouth.
He and the two other men walked out, locking the door behind them.
I tried the ropes again. Nothing.
I sighed.
I memorized every inch of the room I was in. The chair squeaked as I scooted around in circles.
Three hours later, the same three men walked back in.
"Well, Officer Clark, or can I call you Emily?" Hale sat down.
I stared him to death.
"Alrighty then. Officer Clark it is." He sighed. "You have information that I need."
I mumbled.
"Hold on." He said, a little annoyed. Hale removed my gag.
"Like what?" I said again.
"I need to know where Jason Harris is." Hale sat back.
"And you need me for this?" I asked.
"Why, of course, darling." He looked a little shocked.
"You couldn't have followed my team to his house?" I offered.
"Too much work." Hale explained.
"You couldn't have hire hackers to piece together bank statements and pension checks to find his house?" I added.
"Too much money." Hale waved hand.
"You couldn't have hired a bounty hunter?" I asked.
"For a man so hidden? No. Plus, I want him alive." Hale explained.
"What for?" I asked.
"It's a secret." Hale whispered, holding a finger to his lips.
"What makes you think I'll tell you?" I scoffed.
"This." Hale pulled out an old switchblade and covered my mouth. He jammed it into my mid-thigh.
I pretended to scream into his hand. I forced my eyes to start tearing up.
He maliciously smiled.
Without breaking eye contact with me, he pulled out a piece of gauze and pressed it on my leg, on either side of the protruding knife, making me pretend scream again.
"We can't have you bleed out before you tell us where Harris is, now can we?" He shrugged and pulled his hand away from my mouth.
"You son of a bitch!" I yelled at him.
"Oops?" He shrugged again. He pulled out a long strip of cloth and tied it around my leg tightly, causing me to fake the pain.
"Stand up now, darling. You're going to be on a video call soon!" Hale signaled for one of his men to untie me. The man slung his rifle over his shoulder and walked up behind me. He untied me hand and legs. The other man pointed his gun at me.
"You're a smart girl, so don't try anything stupid." Hale suggest as I stayed absolutely still. "Come on, stand up!" Hale ordered. I stayed where I was.
"Help her, you idiots!" Hale ordered the two other men.
They slung their machines guns over their shoulder and picked me up under the shoulders and stood me on my feet. I hissed from the fake pain and shifted my weight to my "good" leg. One man retied my hands in front of me.
"Come on, darling." Hale led me out of the room, down a hallway, and into another dark room. I performed a very convincing limp. It was so convincing that Hale's two men each put a hand under my arms and dragged me down the rest of the hallway to make things quicker. I stood in the middle of the room, holding all my weight on my "good" leg.
"Initiate call." Hale ordered a man who was sitting by a computer. There was a huge floor to ceiling screen on one wall, with a camera capturing our every move.
Hale touched his throat. Or something around his throat.
The man at the computer pressed a button and the screen lit up, showing Kennex, Dorian, and even Paul, with Captain Maldonado in the center. I could see immense concern on Dorian's face, as well as some on Kennex's face.
Was Kennex a softie on the inside?
"Hello there, Captain Maldonado." Hale tilted his head, his voice deepened by the disguiser around his throat.
"To whom am I speaking?" The Captain replied, her arms crossed.
"That is of no importance." Hale replied.
"What do you want?" Maldonado fired back.
"Jason Harris." Hale responded.
"What will we get in return?" Maldonado asked.
"You officer here, obviously. Sorry the goods are damaged." Hale kicked my feet back and I collapsed to my knees. I yelled out in fake pain.
"That doesn't seem like a fair trade." Maldonado replied, almost wincing at the sight of my pain.
I caught Dorian's eye. I kept tapping my leg, trying to get a message across. Dorian finally realized what I was trying to tell him and he slightly inclined his head in recognition.
"Take it or leave it." Hale ordered Maldonado.
"Give me an hour." Maldonado offered.
"The clock is ticking." Hale cut off the transmission.
"Well, Officer Clark, it looks like more waiting for you." Hale looked down at me. "Take her back to the room. Tie her back up." Hale ordered.
The two armed men picked me back up by the arms and dragged me back down the hall and into the empty room. They sat me back down in the chair and tied my arms and legs back.
I was really tempted to just jump out of the chair and snap their necks, but I had to hold myself back. Kennex and Dorian were coming.
And I wasn't going to die from blood loss anytime soon.
What will happen next? Hopefully I will update soon. I don't know. I know this is part one of 'Hostage' but part two won't be up until after the next chapter. Sorry. It just makes everything more tense.
