Hello everyone! Here's a short chapter. Enjoy.

Emily pulled up to the precinct and parked. She pulled her phone from the glove compartment and sent a quick text. The three exited the car. "Alright." She sighed a little. "You can go home." She handed the keys over to John. "Nick's coming to pick me and Dorian up."

"Oh... kay?" John was confused, holding the car keys in his hand.

"I have to write the After Action Report." Emily explained, starting to walk away. "Come on, Dorian." She ordered.

She headed towards the precinct with Dorian at her heels and John standing at the car, confused.

"Emily, how will we get home now?" Dorian asked as they entered the building.

"I said Nick's picking us up." Emily explained.

"Why did you tell John to go home?" He asked.

"He smells like garbage." Emily smirked a little. "I don't want to be near that."

Dorian smiled a little.

oOoOo

John arrived at his house. He silently entered, went to the bathroom, and took an extra long shower to get the smell off.

He stood there while the water streamed down.

'Why does Emily hate me now?' John thought.

'Did I do something?'

'Did I do something while I was missing?'

'Did she see me do something?'

'Did she do something while I was missing?'

'Does she not love me any more?'

"What do I do?" John asked out loud to no one.

Suddenly filled with determination, John turned the shower off, dried himself, got dressed, and went back out to the car. He drove to Emily's, at least a few miles over the speed limit. He pulled up to Emily's house and walked straight to her front door.

He rang the doorbell and waited for Emily. Within a moment, the door opened to reveal her. She hadn't changed, and by the looks of it, just got home.

"Hey..." She spoke first.

"Let's get dinner." John replied.

Emily tried to hide her smile by looking away slightly. "Why?" She asked, looking back at him with a straight face.

"Because I want to." John answered. "Because you deserve it." He added.

Emily stood there thinking for a moment. She grabbed her jacket and house keys.

"Dorian! I'm going out. Don't wait up." She called into the house.

After a brief pause, Dorian replied. "Okay!"

Emily crossed over her threshold and stood will John on the front step. She closed the door behind her. "Where are we going?" She asked.

"Doesn't matter to me." John smiled, taking Emily's hand.

Emily smiled, wrapping her free hand around John's neck. She got on her tip-toes and kissed him, lightly yet lovingly. She pulled back. "Mm. You smell good."

"Showers can do that." John replied as he led her to the car.

Both got in, buckled up, and drove off towards who knows where.

oOoOo

"Okay." Emily smiled, taking a sip of her beer. "Favorite color." She asked.

"Really?" John laughed a little. "That's what we've come to?"

Emily shrugged.

John thought for a moment. "Red." He answered. "You?" He asked, picking up his glass of beer.

"Green." Emily replied without missing a beat.

"You don't strike me as a green person." John noted.

Emily shrugged again. "Cats or dogs?"

"Dogs I guess." John replied. "I'm allergic to cats."

"Interesting." Emily nodded, thinking a bit. "I'm a dog person as well."

The waiter came with the check shortly after that.

Emily reached for her wallet to grab some money.

"Oh no you don't." John dragged the check closer to him. "I'm paying." He insisted as he pulled out some cash.

"Let's at least go Dutch." Emily offered.

"Nope." John shook his head as he placed his money on the table.

"Alright." Emily took one last sip of her beer and stood up at the same time as John. He took her hand and the two walked out of the restaurant.

oOoOo

"Thank you for dinner." Emily smiled, looking down, brushing a piece of hair behind her ear. She stood with John on her front door step.

"You're very welcome." John put his hands around her waist, making her look up at him. "I hope it makes up for... Never mind."

"Makes up for what?" Emily put a hand on his arm, head tilted to the side.

John sighed, not wanting to upset her. After a moment of her staring at him, he gave in. "With the whole Mist X thing and being with that woman... I hope this makes up for it." He paused waiting for a reaction for Emily. When he didn't get one, he continued on explaining, voice soft. "You looked so disgusted with me when you told me to drive home and that your brother was coming for you."

Emily laughed softly and kissed John, catching him a bit by surprised. When she pulled back, she was smiling, a bit mischievously.

"What?" John asked, trying to not sound nervous.

"I only made you drive home because you smelled like a dumpster." Emily explained, holding in a laugh.

"Are you serious?" John asked.

Emily nodded.

"Then why did I have to take you to dinner?" John joked.

"Because you love me." Emily replied, standing on her tip toes.

"That is true." John smiled a little as he kissed her, gently, as he pulled her closer. It became more passionate and Emily wrapped her arms around his neck. They eventually slowed, and separated, much to their disliking.

"Goodnight, John." Emily spoke quietly. She kissed him softly.

"Goodnight, Emily." John dipped his head and kissed Emily before she could go inside.

They both quietly separated ways. Emily silently navigated through her house and into bed after setting her prosthetics to charge. John went to the car and drove home, feeling better than he did before.
