Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay. Enjoy this one with more of John and Emily.
John arrived at Emily's home only a minute or two late. He lightly honked the car horn and Dorian emerged from the house. He got in the passenger seat.
"Is Emily coming?" John asked.
Dorian shook his head as he put his seatbelt on. "I believe her brother took her to a doctor's appointment."
"Oh." John looked ahead quietly.
While driving to the precinct, John thought he saw something. "Is that Emily?" He pointed to a woman followed by a man walking into a building together.
"I... I think so." Dorian replied, quickly looking before they were too far away.
John kept driving. "That wasn't a doctor's office, though." He thought out loud.
"Maybe I was mistaken." Dorian replied.
John stared ahead again.
At the precinct, John went to talk to Maldonado, leaving Dorian to sit at his desk. After a minute or two, John came back.
"You're with Paul today. I have to go." John pulled his coat on.
"What?" Dorian stood up to face John. "Where are you going?"
"I'm taking a day." John clapped Dorian on the back. "You can handle yourself with Paul, right?" John tried to give Dorian a reassuring smile. Dorian didn't smile back and John took that as his cue to quickly leave.
Dorian sat back down in a huff.
John got in his car and drove to the building where he thought he saw Emily going in. He parked the car and entered.
"Hello and welcome to Veteran's Physical Therapy Clinic. How may I help you?" A person sitting at a sign-in desk asked John. It was a older-looking man with blonde hair and was wearing black work-out clothes.
John walked over. "I'm looking for someone."
"Do you have an appointment?" The man asked.
"No, I just need to find someone." John insisted.
The man sighed. "May I see some ID?"
John eyed him as he pulled out his badge.
The man's eyes widened slightly as he looked at the badge. "Who were you looking for specifically?"
"Emily Clark." John replied.
The man tapped on the computer screen until a result turned up. "Yes, she checked in 45 minutes ago. She's with Alex right now." The man pointed to an area over John's shoulder.
"Thanks." John quickly walked over to where Emily was. He saw her blonde hair. She was sitting in a chair, facing away from him. He saw one arm go up, the hand holding a weight. The hand went down, then up, then down, forever repeating.
A man, no older than 30, was standing near Emily. He had light brown hair, slightly gelled back, out of the way. His brown eyes watched Emily intently. He was wearing a t-shirt, sweatpants, and trainers.
Alex, John assumed, walked over to Emily and took the weight, setting it down on the floor. He said something to her that John couldn't hear. Emily smiled and nodded. Alex wrapped an arm around Emily's waist and Emily wrapped an arm around Alex's neck. John realized that Emily had all her prostheses off and was only left with her left arm.
Alex sat her down at a machine. Emily wrapped her hand around a handle, which was connected to a series of pulleys and what-not. Alex strapped a belt around her waist.
Emily began pulling forward, the weights on the machine rising behind her. She brought her arm back and repeated the motion.
John finally found the courage to walk up to her.
Emily looked up after sensing a person was near. "John!" Her face lit up. "I didn't know you came here!" She smiled, still continuing to move her arm.
John sighed. "I don't."
"Oh?" Emily tilted her head a little, squinting her eyes slightly.
"I saw you walking in this morning and thought I'd come by and say hello." John explained.
"But you didn't bring Dorian, huh?" Emily smirked playfully.
John sheepishly shook his head.
Emily nodded, jokingly frowning.
Alex put an arm on Emily's shoulder. "Emily, who's this?" He asked.
"Oh, Alex! Meet my boyfriend, John." Emily smiled, introducing the two.
Alex held out a hand and John shook it. "Pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise." John replied.
"You ready for pull ups?" Alex asked.
"Sure." Emily wrapped her arm around Alex's neck once more. He brought her over to a pull up bar with thickly padded mats underneath.
"Ooo, one armed. I gotta see this." John smiled and stood across from Emily, looking at her.
Alex set Emily on the bar, but stayed close. Emily slowly started to pull herself up. She was able to five before Alex held her to let her rest.
"Wow, impressive." John nodded his head and crossed his arms.
Emily shot him a glance.
"Easy." Alex gently spoke. "She just broke her previous personal record."
"Of four?" John asked. He followed Emily and Alex.
"Of two." Alex answered, setting Emily down on a chair to cool down. He grabbed her a bottle of water. "I'll get you some ice." Alex left.
John sat down next to Emily. He put an arm around her.
"Ew, don't touch me. I'm sweaty." Emily leaned away.
John chuckled and put his arm down. "How are you doing?" John asked.
"Fine." Emily answered.
Alex came over and gave Emily ice for her left shoulder. Emily wrapped it in place. Alex then brought over her prostheses and snapped them in place.
"Why aren't you at the precinct?" She asked.
John shrugged. "I wanted to check on you."
"I see." Emily nodded. "Are you going to buy me lunch? Because I'm starving." She smiled.
John laughed a little and both stood up. They walked out of the building hand in hand.
