I12Bfree: I can't believe its been years since I last updated a new chapter! Thanks for staying with me, or if you're new to this fic, thank you for taking the time to read it.:) And some of you might've noticed, I've been editing the previous chapters to make it more readable.
Anyways, on with the story!
"Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
A woman clad in black stood in a dark room, the only source of light being a mirror, which was not displaying its owner's reflection, but a swirling, misty haze. As the haze cleared up it revealed a younger woman. She had hair and eyes that were the color of the deep sea, lips as red as blood, and skin as white as snow.
The woman who had been observing the mirror let out a gasp, for the answer to her question had always been herself. Her hands curled tightly, her pupils dilated, and her teeth clenched as she faced the girl occupying the surface of the mirror.
"Juvia White!"
"So let's recap."
The group of friends huddled round Lucy who was now back in her Dorothy dress, with the dragon slayers clamping their mouths from their teleportation-sickness. The celestial mage held a map in her hands given to her by Gurid the librarian. Three of the circles out of six were now stamped with writing.
Jellal read each: "The Wizard of Oz, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Little Mermaid."
"So far, we've cleared 3 stories and we're currently on our 4th. Any idea which story we're in?" Lucy put her hands on her waist and looked at her companions.
The others shook their heads in equal confusion, as the only clue they had was their surroundings. The surroundings of the 4th story was, not much different to the first and second, a forest.
"Mmmph! Mmf!"
"What is it, Erza-san?" Wendy asked concerned, while Natsu tried to keep his laughter in.
"I still can't get used to Erza like that!" He rolled over laughing. Erza fumed but calmed herself, aware of Jellal watching.
In order to attain human legs, Erza had traded her voice with the sea witch in the previous story. Although she had found a way to make muffled noises she still could not speak thus making it hard for her to communicate with the others and making Natsu laugh so hard he was crying. Erza gripped her blush pink off-the-shoulder dress which was given to her by Jellal from his palace with matching pink seashell shaped earrings.
"Stop it Natsu." Jellal placed his hand comfortingly on Erza's shoulder. "What's wrong?"
Erza, unable to hide a blush from creeping out, pointed at a direction. All eyes followed where her finger was pointing at. There, hidden by bushes was a road leading to a tall brick castle.
"Well spotted!" Lucy got up to her feet. "There's bound to be people there. Let's head towards the castle and ask around!"
"Aye sir!"
-at the castle
"Whoa."
Up close the castle looked even taller and spacious.
"This is the most fairy-tale-like scenery I've encountered after being sucked into the stories." Lucy admired out loud. Everyone else nodded in agreement. Indeed, the castle was a typical but magnificent building that looked like it had popped out from a storybook.
Suddenly, the sound of metal gates opening followed by footsteps grabbed their attention.
"But how can that be? I saw her not long a time ago. She lives here in this freakin' palace, I tell you!"
The group sweatdropped as an all-too-familiar voice sounded from the entrance of the castle. "That voice..and that un-fairy-tale-like language.." Charle shook her head.
"And I tell you, she no longer resides at this castle." A second voice sounded and two people stepped out.
As expected, the owner of the first voice was none other than Gray Fullbuster. The ice mage was donning what looked like a typical prince attire. Much alike to Jellal, he had a regal aura, which in his case, made him seem more stuck-up.
"I've asked around the people who live in this country, and the only person who fits my description is the princess. How can the princess not live in the castle?"
The second person was now clearly in view as well. He looked more like a guard with his less expensive garments and the halberd he was holding in his grip.
"There is no princess Juvia White in this country anymore. And you're clearly an outsider who shouldn't be prying his nose into other country's business. So before I round up the other guards, get lost." and with that he whipped his head round and marched back into the castle, slamming the gates behind him.
Gray looked enraged as he started shaking the gates, causing a commotion.
"Who do you think I am? I'm a fxxkin' prince, do you hear me?"
Erza sighed and cracked her knuckles, which probably meant something along the lines of: "I'm gonna beat some manners into him."
Thankfully, for Gray, the ice mage noticed them approaching sneakily and stopped rattling the gates. "And who might you be?"
Lucy whispered in Erza's ear. "Hurry, kiss him before he gets wrong ideas!"
Erza, however, looked unwilling and glanced back at Jellal. Jellal coughed at turned around.
"You can kiss him on the cheek if you're not too keen on this, Erza-san." Wendy comforted.
"If you're another one of those girls trying to seduce me, it won't work." Gray crossed his arms. "Geez, being a prince and having good looks at the same time is really tiring. One of these days I'm really going to have to do something about my looks or else people will make a fandom based on me."
Natsu gritted his teeth. "Oh I assure you, that won't happen. What is it with you princes and your confidence in your looks."
Jellal coughed yet again, this time in embarrassment in remembering his self-confidence before regaining his memories.
Taking the distraction as a chance, Erza snatched Gray by the collar and pecked him on the cheek. Gray collasped on his knees gasping, either because of the force of Erza's kiss or because of the shock of regaining his memories.
"I believe the words you're looking for is thank you."
Juvia White stretched after being done with making the beds of the seven dwarves who had been very nice to her as to welcome her into their home. She had decided to help with their housework in exchange although her extravagant attire was not suitable for housework. Her high collar cupped her blue hair inside, the loose curls tickling her neck. Her wide petticoat made it harder for her to move around in the small room although it did make her look bubblier with the skirt bouncing with every step she took. The only part of her attire she liked was her red satin bow which lay on her head. She believed it was what made people call her the apple of one's eyes.
Just as she reached for the mop and bucket of soap water lying at the corner of the room she heard the door being knocked on. The blunette strode towards the door, her hair bouncing as she hummed to the tunes of "Someday My Prince Will Come".
Upon opening the door, she found herself facing an old lady whose face was half hidden in her battered robes. The old lady raised her head, revealing a crooked smile as she spoke in a crackly voice.
"All alone, my pet?"
"So. Gray hitting on Juvia huh? That's new"
Gray blushed and quickly tried to change the subject.
"So what am I supposed to do again?"
Lucy closed her eyes, conjuring her memory on the tale 'Snow White'.
"We'll keep going deeper into the woods until we reach the cottage where the seven dwarves live. That's where Juvia will be as Snow White. That's when your turn comes, Gray. Juvia'll be unconscious because of the poisoned apple given to her by the wicked Queen. To wake her up, you have to kiss her-"
"-on the lips." Happy interrupted.
"On the lips." Lucy agreed, biting back laughter.
Wendy quickly caught on and added to their joke. "You might want to kiss her twice, Gray-san. One for waking her up and one for getting her memory back." Then she turned her head away Gray so he wouldn't see her biting her palms to hide her snickering.
Gray looked shocked. "What? Bu-but-"
Erza shook her head and Lucy translated: "No buts Gray."
Natsu roared with laughter and nudged Lucy. "We all did it, so why can't you. If Elfman saw you he'd call you unmanly."
Lucy flinched at Natsu's touch but quickly pretended nothing had happened. "Let's hurry. I want to finish this soon."
Sensing that something was off, Natsu quickened his pace to reach Lucy again. "What's wrong Lucy? Do you need to go to the toilet or something?"
"I'm fine."
If her earlier curtness had gone unnoticed, this time it had grabbed everyone's attention.
Natsu stiffened and Lucy felt bad with the rest staring at her with shock and curiosity.
Fortunately for Lucy, Charle spoke up. "Look! There's the cottage."
Everyone's eyes followed, but contrary to their expectations, which was Juvia lying unconscious in a coffin with the dwarves holding a funeral for her, the dwarves were all dancing and in the middle of the party was Juvia herself laughing and dancing.
"This isn't anything like you told us would happen!" Gray hissed as they ducked behind a bush.
"Who's there!" One of the dwarves shouted, noticing their presence.
The group flinched and simultaneously stood up from behind the bushes they were hiding. Upon seeing Gray, Juvia squealed in delight, having met before, while Gray gulped, now fully aware of who she was.
Erza, overexcited, pushed Gray's back causing him to tumble out of the shadows.
Gray cleared his throat.
"So..um...Hi."
All animals and people present stared at him.
"Stop staring! I can't do this with all of you staring! Heck, she wasn't even supposed to be conscious." Gray swiped his head at Juvia, who had also been staring. "You! Weren't you supposed to eat an apple?"
Juvia blinked.
"Oh!"
-what had happened
"All alone, my pet?"
"Why yes, Juvia is alone."
The crone grinned and as she fished out an apple from her basket and held it out to her.
"Would you like to try an apple? It's very fresh and ripe. For you, pet, I'll give it to you free."
Juvia accepted gladly. She had been wondering what to cook for her beloved benefactors. "Thank you miss, Juvia'll use this to bake a pie for her new friends!"
The crone sputtered. "Uh, no. Eat it yourself."
Juvia's brow creased. "No it's fine. Juvia would rather her friends eat this lovely apple than eat it herself. Still, Juvia appreciates your kindness."
Her patience running out, the queen in disguise screeched in frustration. "Aargh! When will you fxxking die!"
Juvia gasped in shock. "Now that's not very nice!"
Ignoring her, the queen leaped towards Juvia, her hands outstretched.
Thinking quickly, Juvia lifted the pail of water next to her and hurled it at the old woman.
"Water Bucket!"
The soap water flew into the air and completely engulfed the crone who let out a shriek as the water soaked her through, washing away her disguise.
"You!"
Juvia gasped once more as the old lady's true identity dawned on her: the evil Queen.
Without wasting a chance, the princess blew between her fingers and whistled a short but clear note. In an instance, tens and thousands of birds surrounded the queen.
Juvia crossed her arms and looked down at the queen on her knees, desperately chasing the aggressive birds away with her arms.
"Girls. Get her."
-and back to present
After having heard the story, the group all left Gray and Juvia by themselves.
Gray scratched his head awkwardly before taking a step. Somehow it felt more awkward now that they were alone.
"Don't misunderstand. I'm only doing this for a reason."
Juvia stared as he came closer, and when their distance had closed Gray leaned his face in closer and closer.
"Wha-"
But Juvia never got to finish her sentence.
Gray had her lips captured in his, his eyes shut tight, while Juvia's eyes widened from the incoming memories.
Upon recognizing Gray, Juvia fainted.
"It was always Juvia's dream to be rescued by her prince charming!"
Juvia flounced around happily while the rest of the group rejoined them in front of the dwarves' cottage.
"Yeah well, I didn't really rescue you." Gray sat on a rock, his chin resting on his hand.
"Juvia always read fairy tales back when she was still at the orphanage. They were so romantic!"
Gray grunted from his rock.
"But Juvia thinks Gray-sama and Juvia's story is more romantic than any fairy tale!"
Juvia threw her arms around Gray, squishing him. Gray knew she was talking about how he had "stopped her rain."
"Aww isn't that adorable!" Erza gushed as Juvia twirled herself and Gray around singing, "Someday My Prince Will Come".
Natsu stared in shock. "How come you can speak again?"
"That's because she's Erza." Happy stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Alright everyone! It's time for us to go to the next story." Lucy clicked her heels as a reminder. But before they could depart, a ringing noise sounded from inside the hut.
"Oh, that must be the pie Juvia was baking. She put it on a timer."
Juvia turned to the others.
"Anyone care for some apple pie?"
I12Bfree: Yay! Chapter 5 is done! It feels like it's been a decade since I last did this. And because it's the 5th chapter I thought I should remind you all about the characters!
Lucy as Dorucy(Dorothy)
Natsu as the Scarecrow
Happy as the Cowardless Lion(the Cowardly Lion)
Charle as Baby Bear
Wendy as Wendilocks(Goldilocks)
Jellal as Prince Jeric(Prince Eric)
Erza as Eriel(Ariel)
Gray as Prince Gray Ferdinand(Prince Ferdinand)
Juvia as Juvia White(Snow white)
I12Bfree: Although not mentioned in the story, Gray was supposed to Prince Ferdinand, the prince who marries Snow White. In my original plan, I was going to make Gray's fairy tale name to Gray Charming but later decided to go with the disney version, so it changed to Ferdinand.
I12Bfree: Also I put the scene where everyone tricks Gray into kissing Juvia on the lips in because I thought they should take part in matchmaking since the title is "Juvia White and the Seven Matchmakers". If Juvia had been unconscious, Gray might've really kissed her twice!
Juvia: Oh no! Juvia should've just eaten the apple!
I12Bfree: I also like the idea of Gray playing along with Juvia and reacting to all her crazyness while pretending to be nonchalant.
Erza: Me too :)
I12Bfree: Anyways thank you all again for reading and as always, reviews are love!
