Hello everyone! I am extremely disappointed in all of you. There have been such low view ratings but of course I got a review so I am upholding my promise to update. (This was so elegantly pointed out in a review.)

This one is dedicated to brendawilliamsc. I love you!

Enjoy.

"Braaaaains…" Emily groaned. She dragged a leg, holding out her only hand towards Jason.

Jason laughed and aimed his gun and shot Emily square in the head. A harmless dart came out and stuck on Emily's forehead.

"Hey!" She complained, peeling the dart off. She stood up straight and crossed her arms.

"Braaaaains…" John pulled himself along the floor. He only had one leg.

Jason shot John in the back twice.

John laughed. "Em, help me up."

Emily held out her right hand and John took it. Emily helped John to his feet, or foot, and John leaned back onto a table.

"I have to say," Emily pulled the darts off John's back, "this is the best Halloween party I've ever been to."

Dorian came up to Jason, Emily, and John with cups of blood red punch in hand. Behind him was Rudy, Peyton, and Nicholas. They were each dressed as a different superhero. Dorian was Batman, Rudy was the Flash, Peyton was Wonder Woman, and Nicholas was Captain America. Emily and John were two very gory zombies, complete with fake injuries and real missing limbs. Jason, of course, was the zombie hunter (with a dart gun).

Dorian handed out the drinks and everyone took a sip. Peyton stayed close to Dorian for most of the party, and Emily took note of this.

The party was in full swing, the precinct rearranged and decorated for the best ambiance and atmosphere. Emily and her friends laughed, telling stories and frights, remembering what it was like to trick-or-treat as a kid.

Captain Maldonado walked up to the group, dressed as a witch. "Clark, Kennex, I hate to say this, but you have a case."

Emily frowned and John sighed.

"Sorry." Maldonado handed over a file and walked away.

Emily shook her head in disbelief as she walked around the desk John was leaning against. She pulled out a travel case which had her arm and John's leg in it. She snapped her arm on and gave John his leg. "Let's go." She told John and Dorian.

The three walked to their car. Emily sat in the back. She pulled her bag into her lap. She pulled out a mirror and makeup wipes. She started to take off her zombie makeup. She went through three wipes before she got down to her own skin.

"Here, John." She held out some wipes for him.

"What? Now? I'm driving!" John protested.

Emily clicked her tongue and started taking off John's zombie face herself. He tried to jerk away but it was useless. Emily got everything off and finally leaned back. She took off her ragged clothes and slipped on a police-issued jacket she had stored away on her bag. She pulled off her torn pants and wiggled into a pair of jeans.

"John!" Emily exclaimed.

"Sorry." John straightened out the car, focusing on the road.

Emily smiled a little.

Emily bent down, hovering over a body at the crime scene. It was a woman who missing her left arm. It looked liked like it was sawed clean off. No, not sawed. Sliced off, with a laser possibly.

It was early in the morning, around 3 am. It was dark and only the street lights provided an eerie glow.

John walked back over. "No witnesses really. They heard screaming and found her."

"It appears that she bled out." Dorian chimed in.

"Can we get an I.D.?" Emily asked.

"I'll check her face through DMV licenses." Dorian offered, his face lighting up blue.

Through the comms, Maldonado spoke up. "I'm getting a report of a disturbance in the area you're in. Check it out when you're done with the body."

"Copy that." John answered.

Then, Emily heard a scream. "Did you hear that?"

"It was probably nothing. Just Halloween antics." John brushed it off.

Emily ignored him and stepped around the corner to investigate. She heard screaming again. Emily broke out into a run and turned another corner. She saw a man hovering over a woman.

"Freeze! Police!" Emily yelled, pulling out her gun.

The man stood, frightened. There were two somethings under his arms. Legs.

Emily was curious and confused. Then she looked down at the woman on the ground, faltering.

The man took his opportunity to run.

"Emily!" John came jogging up. "Where did you go?"

"Call an ambulance!" Emily ordered as she rushed up to the woman, kneeling down next to her.

The woman was shaking, panicked and confused. "My legs! My legs!" She wailed.

"Hold still. Help is coming." Emily tried to calm her down as she pulled her jacket off.

Through the comms, Maldonado spoke up again. "Clark, go after the suspect!"

"No, I have to stop the bleeding." Emily replied, wrapping her jacket around the ends of the woman's legs. John swore under his breath and left Emily, looking for the runaway suspect.

"Clark, that's an order!" Maldonado commanded.

"This woman will die without me!" Emily cried out.

"Clark!" Maldonado tried one last time.

The woman tightly grabbed Emily's hand. "Don't leave me. Don't let me die." She pleaded.

"Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere." Emily assured her.

The ambulance eventually arrived and the woman was rushed into emergency surgery.

John walked past Emily and towards the car. He gave Emily a passing glance and then faced forward again.

"What did I do?" Emily asked, brushing off the blood onto her shirt.

"You disobeyed a direct order." Dorian answered.

Emily rolled her eyes. "I don't care."

Emily sat back in a chair in Maldonado's office. The Halloween party was over and officers were taking down decorations and moving desks back into their proper positions. Emily sighed.

Maldonado walked in, wordlessly, and sat down in her office chair, staring down Emily. "You are aware of the ramifications of disobeying a direct order, correct?"

"Yes." Emily answered, indifferent.

"You can be court martialed and put on trial."

"I know."

"You don't seem to be taking this seriously."

"Yup."

"I hope you know that I'm the one who'll decide if you're going to court or not."

"I know."

"Do you want me to court martial you?"

"No." Emily finally looked Maldonado in the eye. "I'm just waiting for you to ask me for my side of the story."

"Oh, so there is one." Maldonado pursed her lips, annoyed. "Please, go ahead."

Emily straightened in her chair. "That woman lost both her legs today. She was scared, angry, confused. She didn't want to die, she want to fight and live." Emily paused, taking a deep breath. "I saw myself in her."

Maldonado immediately softened. "I see." She smiled a little. "Well, I'm going to put you on patrol duty. I want you to find that suspect." She ordered.

Emily nodded, stood, and left.

Maldonado sat back in her chair, thinking long and hard. She sighed.

Emily walked out of the precinct and towards her own car.

"What did she say?" John asked, in an annoyed tone.

Emily got into her car and started the engine.

"Where are you going?" John asked.

Emily glared at him and pulled out of the parking lot.

"What did I do?" John yelled after her. "What did I do?" John turned to Dorian.

Dorian looked at John with a concerned look.

John panicked.

John knocked on Captain Maldonado's office door.

"Enter." A voice within answered.

John walked into Maldonado's office. "I wanted to talk about Emily."

"Sure." Maldonado gave her full attention to John. "What about?"

"Tonight. Your order that she disobeyed." John explained. "I want to know what's going to happen."

"Nothing." Maldonado answered. "I've cleared her of anything."

"Seriously?" John raised an eyebrow.

"Yes."

"Why?" John was confused.

"She gave a great defense and I understood her actions." Maldonado replied.

"What did she say?" John asked, curious.

Maldonado sighed, contemplating her answer. "Given your relationship, I'll tell you. She said she saw herself in that woman she was saving. She had to help."

John stopped. He looked at Maldonado. "Oh."

John left Maldonado's office in a hurry. He found Dorian by his desk. "Dorian, can you track Emily's car?"

"Sure." Dorian answered as he face lit up blue. "Why?"

"I need to tell her something." John answered.

"She's parked on Riverview Avenue." Dorian answered.

"Riverview?" John asked. "Isn't that right by the crime scene we were at?"

"Yes, actually." Dorian replied.

"Come on." John urged Dorian. He grabbed his jacket and both of them went to the car to find Emily.

Emily drove back to the area where that woman lost her legs. She had gotten a call from the hospital. The woman who lost her legs, Heather Lou, died on the operating table. The trauma had been too much.

Emily pulled out a portable file she had in her car and pulled up old police reports. There was the woman without her arm from this night, the woman without her legs from this night, a woman without her lower torso from two nights ago, a woman without her upper torso from last night, a woman without her neck and shoulders from three nights ago, and a woman without her head from four nights ago. None of their murders have been solved.

Something clicked for Emily. All these missing body parts were being pieced together to create something … inhuman.

Emily got out of her car and locked it. She walked across the street to where to helped Heather. There was blood still wet on the ground. Emily sighed. She knelt down on one knee. She picked at the ground and found two fine lines, about half an inch deep. They must have come from whatever the man used to take Heather's legs off.

Then, pain burst through Emily's head at she was hit from behind. She fell forward, unconscious.

"Where is she?" John wondered.

"I can check surrounding cameras." Dorian offered.

"Okay, do it." John answered, impatient.

Dorian searched for Emily. "John." Dorian spoke up in a cautious tone.

"What? What?" John asked, anxious.

"Emily was where that woman lost her legs. Someone came up behind her and knocked her out. They dragged her away." Dorian looked worried.

John swore. And then swore again. "Find her!"

"I can't!" Dorian yelled. "The cameras don't go where she was taken. It was too dark."

John sighed, and then held his breath. He looked at the sun, just peaking above the horizon. "Get Maldonado." John ordered. "Find her." His face hardened and he set his jaw.

Nothing could prepare him for the darkness he felt inside him.
