Hello everyone! Here is the chapter with the questions sent in for John and Emily's interviews. I only got a response from one person so I supplemented with questions I came up with.
I just want to add a disclaimer: There are mentions of sex, however, nothing inappropriate. Just relationship things.
But, there's a lot of stuff to find out about John and Emily, so read what's ahead!
Enjoy!
John's Interview:
Interviewer: Good morning.
John Kennex: Mornin'.
How long have you been with Emily?
JK: Five months? Maybe six.
I'm going to jump right in.
JK: Go ahead.
How do you feel about working together with Emily?
JK: Oh, I like it. I get to see her more. I know what she's up to, yet that doesn't stop her from running into danger or something like that. Granted I sometimes do that as well. [smiles] Though sometimes being together at work will sometimes take away from a surprise meeting. I guess I wouldn't mind bumping into Emily at the precinct, or seeing her on the street working another case. I think she likes working with me because she gets to keep an eye on me. [laughs]
Are you really in love with Emily or are you friends with benefits?
JK: Oh, there's no doubt. Of course I'm in love with her. At some times, she's all I can think about. It's in those moments that I want to be with, I crave her. When asked to think about something or someone I love, I automatically go to Emily. She's just that bright spot in my life. [pauses] Of course sex is an important part of nearly any dating or married relationship, but I don't think sex dictates ours. It's just something that lends intimacy to our relationship. [pauses] And there are always the little things she does everyday that add to my appreciation of her.
What kind of little things?
JK: Let's see…[laughs] She puts on her left sock first, but ties her right shoe first. She stirs her coffee four times after adding anything to it. She likes whipped cream only on vanilla ice cream. She'll always take the same route to work, unless there's traffic, where she always takes the same backup route. She'll listen to, not watch, the news to fall asleep. She can only sleep with two blankets on, not one or three. [smiles] And her eyes will light up at the sight of anything she really loves.
Even you?
JK: [laughs] Even me.
Do you see yourself getting married and having kids?
JK: I think with every dating relationship, the two people together strive to get so close and love each other so much and they eventually want to get married. I mean, of course I see myself marrying Emily. I don't see life without her anymore. She's become such an important part of me and I think the same has happened to her. Kids, however… I mean I'm not opposed to the idea but I've never been great with kids. I'd never know what to say or do. But I always hear that when you become a father, the moment you see your newborn baby's face, everything changes within you. I hope that happens to me. [laughs lightly] But, like, two kids, max. That's my limit.
Are you attracted to Emily because she has synthetic parts just like you?
JK: I mean it's one conversation starter. [laughs] It's clearly something we can relate on. I think it's good for us to both have synthetics because we both know what the other is going through. There are many other things that attract me to Emily. Her smile, her laugh, her brains, and many other things I won't need to mention to you.
I'll use my imagination. [laughs] Do you think you can handle a woman so strong and stubborn as Emily?
JK: Handle? Or course not. [laughs] Her strong-heartedness is something I look up to. I strive to be someone that powerful and confident. Just the way she holds herself commands the attention of the entire room. Emily's stubbornness can get intense at times, but she's really just fighting for something she believes in. I only see her stubbornness as angry passion in order to get what she wants. It's quite different than stubbornness.
In what way?
JK: That's a good question. [laughs]
Do you trust each other?
JK: Oh, definitely. Every time I get into the car with Emily at the wheel, there's an immense amount of trust going on. [laughs] We trust each other's decisions all the time. I don't think there are many moments where we don't trust each other. But those moment where we don't are usually ones where we question each other in order to make ourselves better.
Do you have any secrets that you don't want Emily to find out?
JK: Eeek. [frowns, eyes wide] I think there are a few, yes.
Like what?
JK: Well, as Dorian put it, I was "backed up" before I was with Emily. Um… I like her dyed hair better than her natural hair… I was an asshole quarterback in high school… I love it when Emily snorts while laughing.
Those don't seem so bad.
JK: There are others I am neglecting to mention.
How do you two show your love?
JK: Oh, the usual. But there's also love in what we say or do. All the things we do for each other is a profession of our love. Maybe not the arguments or whatever made the other angry, but I think we show love in more ways that you would typically think in a dating relationship.
When was the last time you said "I love you"?
JK: [smiles] I was awake in bed this morning. Emily was still sleeping. I didn't want to wake her up, but I think she could sense me watching her, or something like that. She woke up, still really sleepy. She said "I love you." I said "I love you, too." Then I kissed her and she fell back asleep. [laughs] She was just a head emerging from a pile of blankets that served as her cave. [laughs] I woke up the sleeping bear! [laughs]
Emily's Interview:
Interviewer: Good morning.
Emily Clark: Morning.
How long have you been with John?
EC: About five and a half months.
Do you feel that's long enough to know each other very well?
EC: I would think so, yes. When you spend over 24 hours straight with a person, you get to know them very well. [laughs]
Can you tell us a little about your love life before John?
EC: Wow, starting off sprinting! [smiles] Um, let's see. My first kiss was Adam Miller in ninth grade. It was in the back of his mother's car while we waited for her to come back with McDonald's. When she came back, everything was extremely awkward. [pauses] My first real boyfriend was Chris Cooke. We dated for about seven months my junior year in high school. [pauses] I lost my virginity to Marcus Beck during my second year in college. He walked back to his dorm room with only his pants through a foot of snow. [laughs] I've had a couple boyfriends after joining the force. None of them really "clicked" with me. But I've been so busy at the precinct that I've kinda fallen off the horse and never felt the need to get back on.
What made John different?
EC: We really connected. From the moment I yelled "I'm busy" at him the first time we met, I'm pretty sure we'd have something special. [laughs] I didn't know what our relationship would be at the time, but I'm glad we were pushed together.
How do you feel about working with John?
EC: Sometimes it feels great. I get to know what John is up to and I can keep an eye on him. Working together at the precinct is a good thing because we know what the other is getting themselves into. Sometimes it feels annoying. I'm with John all day, and if we're together at night, things can get boring. We can't ask each other what happened at work because we both know what happened. We were both there. Working together has its pros and cons. I wouldn't mind being on a separate unit or working somewhere else in the precinct. But I wouldn't mind staying where I am.
Do you want to marry John?
EC: When the time is right, absolutely. I'm sure every couple strives to be together forever. Marriage is just the official way of doing that. I love John very much and I appreciate and respect him as a person, but if he's not ready for a commitment like marriage, then we'll hold off until we're both comfortable with the idea. We could start out with smaller commitments, like a dog, per say.
Do you want a dog?
EC: Yes. [smiles, nods]
If you have to choose between being a wife and mother or staying as a police officer, what would you choose?
EC: In this day and age, women are very capable of being both. There should be no reason to decide between the two. But if I had to decide, I'd be a wife and mother. Being supportive of your husband is important in a marriage relationship. And helping your kids grow and develop is important, too. Being a mother, and wife, I suppose, is written in women's genetics. It's our instinct to be protective, loving, and caring. Jobs and careers come second to that. If John was the only one working, he'd come home exhausted and I'd have to still work hard to cook, clean and take care of the kids. I'm sure I would be totally fulfilled as a person, but I like to be a breadwinner, you know? [laughs] Maybe when my kids would be old enough, I could start working again. But if I had it my way, I'd be a wife and mother while still working.
What's the best moment in your relationship so far?
EC: Hmm… [pauses] I think I'd have to say around the time of Benjamin's funeral.
Benjamin?
EC: Yes, Benjamin Warner. He was my old partner and was with me when I was caught in the explosion, where I lost my arm and legs. He eventually died from brain damage that he suffered from the initial blast. I felt like I was empty and lost. Benjamin was like another brother to me, so I didn't know what to do when he was gone. John really stepped up and helped me grieve. I don't think I could have gotten through without him.
How do you two show your love?
EC: We definitely show it through the typical romance stuff. Kissing, hand holding, having sex. But there's more to it than that. There's the everyday stuff that might not mean anything at the moment. "Buckle up," "here's your coffee," "hold on, there's a car coming," "I've got your back," "I'll take lead." It could be any of those little things. It could be John picking up the dinner bill or letting me pick a movie to watch. It could be me making breakfast or filing John's reports. There's more than one way to show your love for someone.
When was the last time you said "I love you" to John?
EC: I probably said it when I woke up this morning and then John made me coffee.
Do you trust each other?
EC: I do, to an extent. Do I trust him to pick out a paint color? No. To buy new couch? No. To watch my back while hunting a suspect? Absolutely. There are some things that I instinctively trust John on. If he lead seems more promising or he has a gut feeling on a case, I'll follow his lead. If it's me, he'll follow. [pauses] Trust is essential in all relationships, but one hundred percent isn't required. Sometimes you need to questions someone's actions in order to get the best result after considering other options. Sometimes stepping back is the best way to go forward.
Do you have any secrets you don't want John to find out?
EC: Yes.
Do you want to elaborate?
EC: Not particularly, no.
Can you describe your relationship with John in one word?
EC: Oh, wow. That's like asking me who's my favorite sibling. [jokingly] The answer is Nicholas by the way. [laughs] Kidding! One word? Let me think. [pauses longer] Extraordinary. [smiles]
Extraordinary?
EC: Yeah, because nothing about us is normal. Together, we have three arms and a leg. We've both got some emotional issues and probably still some anger problems. John's perpetually late, although he's improving, and I have a lead foot while driving. The relationship between us isn't normal either. Love is never normal. Love in itself is extraordinary.
Those are all the questions I have for you. But I think John is still being interviewed. Do you want to wait? Or…?
EC: Can I surprise him?
Of course! Come with me!
EC: [sneaks away with the interviewer] This is the best thing ever. [arrives at John's interview, hides behind a curtain to still hear]
XxXxXxX
Is there anything in your relationship with Emily that you'd like to change?
JK: I'm not keen on our living arrangements. A night here, a night there, nights alone, breakfast on the go, dinner and then split. I'd like to move in with Emily, or have her move in with me. Sure, I would have to change my daily routine and sacrifice a futon for a real couch, but I'd do that for Emily. [pauses] I'd also like to more open with Emily. I'm not one for feelings, I'm not even sure Emily is either, but I feel that could strengthen our relationship. [pauses] I think we should get a dog, too.
EC: [covers mouth, excited]
JK: Besides that, I think we're near perfection. [smiles]
What's the best moment in your relationship so far?
JK: Oh, I would definitely say the first time we had sex. [laughs]
EC: [silently laughs, shakes head]
JK: It was great, there's no denying it. It's good to get to know who you love on the most intimate level. I'm sure there will be other great moments in our relationship in the future.
Can you you describe your relationship with Emily in one word?
JK: [smiles] Beautiful.
Beautiful?
JK: [nods] Yeah.
EC: [waves face, almost tears up]
JK: I just think everything about Emily is beautiful. And our relationship is just a reflection of that.
EC: [comes out from behind the curtain, sneaks up behind John] [hugs John from behind]
JK: Whoa! Who's this? [looks back at Emily] Hey, there. [kisses Emily] How much did you listen to?
EC: Just the last two questions.
JK: Oh, good.
EC: [slaps John's arm] Beautiful, huh?
JK: What's wrong with that?
EC: [laughs] Nothing.
JK: Well, what did you say?
EC: Extraordinary.
JK: Tsk. I should have thought of that.
EC: [comes around to the front of John] Don't worry. Beautiful is perfect, too.
I have a few questions if you'd both like to answer.
EC: Sure!
JK: Oh boy.
EC: [sits on John's lap]
JK: [is unable to protest]
Alright. Do you think it's necessary for you to know the other's entire history?
JK: No, I don't think so. Not knowing keeps things interesting.
EC: There are some things you just don't want other people knowing. If something's private, it should be able to stay that way without anyone else prying.
Have you seen each other at their best and worst?
JK: I think? I mean Emily ugly-cried before Benjamin's funeral. I don't blame her. [Emily slaps John on the arm] Hey! [smiles] I think her best, so far, would be when she came out of the woods after escaping that crazy creepy guy.
EC: That's my best?
JK: You looked super good.
EC: [laughs] I think John's worst was when that Mist-X woman kidnapped him. [covers John's ears, but he can still hear] I still don't think he knows what he did. [laughs]
JK: I'm open to hear what happened!
EC: I think his best was when he pulled me out of the gas during the gala Schlechtes Leben infiltrated. Granted, he was a little late.
JK: [laughs]
Wow, that's a lot of adventures together. Okay, last question. If you could choose your partner again, would you choose the same person?
EC: Absolutely. Without a doubt.
JK: There's no question. [kisses Emily]
Aw! Thanks to the both of you.
EC: You're very welcome.
JK: [to Emily] Can you stand up? My leg is falling asleep.
EC: [rolls eyes and stands up]
We have another activity ready if you're willing.
EC: Really?
JK: [standing] Oh no.
EC: [takes John's hand] We'll do it.
Excellent! Follow me!
I hope you all enjoyed! Please favorite and follow, and review as well.
I want to update soon, but the next chapter is slowly in the works. Patience, my dear readers. Patience.
Have the happiest of holidays and a wonderful New Year!
