"You're special just the way you are," Elle softly spoke to Gabriel as she took his hand.
Noah, in response, nearly vomited then and there in the van. Since when did he have to listen to his partner spewing this garbage? Special? The man was a killer and they were here to make sure he would kill again.
Damn the surveillance, everything was being recorded as it was, he needed air. It wasn't that he was jealous, never. She was Elle. What could he be jealous of?
Okay, so she had never looked at him the way she was having to look at Gabriel for the assignment (and it was for the assignment!) and she had never said things like that to him. But that was hardly a reason to be jealous. She was still young enough to be his daughter, he was still her partner and he was still married.
But then why wasn't that sickening feeling leaving him? Why wasn't the fresh air helping as he leaned against the side of the van? And why was he plotting a form of harmless revenge?
"Special just the way you are," he mocked finally as she came jogging up towards the van. "I was afraid you were about to bust into song."
This wasn't over and he knew it would only get worse before it got better. But still he wasn't jealous. No, not possible. She was Elle.
Elle⦠A young, beautiful blonde whom, if circumstances were different, he knew he most likely would have already claimed for his own.
Still he wasn't jealous. Not a bit.
Gabriel would pay for this, Noah soon thought with a heavy sigh as he climbed back into the van moments later.
