Ch. 2: Diversion
The sun shone through the window and gently landed on Rev. He opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was a brown furry face, mouth slightly opened as a low snore was heard. Caramel eyes hid behind heavy lids.
Rev smiled to himself as he felt Tech's giant paw resting gently on his waste. His own hand laid on Tech's body as well. He wrapped his arm around his coyote lover a little tighter as he moved in closer to him. Tech moaned a little and unconsciously moved his own paw to follow Rev's slim, almost feminine figure. Rev reached down and pulled the covers up over their shoulders again before returning his arm to its rightful place.
He nuzzled his head under Tech's chin as he closed his eyes once more and breathed in his sent. How could it get any better than this? He wondered as he waited for Tech to wake up.
"Rev." a quiet, gentle voice woke him from his slumber. He felt a paw shake his shoulder vigorously. He opened his eyes to see Tech staring at him, expression weary but a small smile on his face.
Rev unstuck his face from the lab table. After returning back to HQ the previous night, Tech had immediately set to work on trying to figure out what Mastermind had taken and what her plan was. Rev, who had failed in trying to get him to give it a rest for the time being, had stayed up with him. That is, until he himself had fallen dead asleep around 2:45am.
"You were…umm….muttering in your sleep." Tech whispered a slight flush to his cheeks.
Shit. Thought Rev, feeling himself grow hot under the collar. What the hell did I say? "Umm…did-you-figure-anything-out-last-night?" he asked, trying to divert Tech's attention.
Tech, chuckling to himself about what he had heard Rev say, shook his head. "I've tried to think of everything that she could've taken. I mean, I knew every contents of the Acme bio-chemical lab, and I still can't see what she could've taken that would've been any use to her. She would've gone after some sort of machine, not bio chemicals. And even if she was in the process of making her own machine, she wouldn't have needed anything from the bio-chemical lab."
"Well-I'm-sure-you'll-figure-it-out-sooner-or-later." Rev reassured him. "By-the-way-I-didn't-say-anything-too embarrassing-while-I-was-a-sleep,-did-I? I-mean,-I-hope-not,-because-man-would it-be-awkward-if-I-revealed-my-deepest secret-or-something-like-that-without-meaning-to. I-mean-I've-heard-of-people-talking-in-their-dreams-and-confessing-all-sorts-of-things-like-crimes-they've-done-or-how-they-really-feel-about-their-in-laws-" he was cut off by Tech who had clamped his beak shut with his paw.
"All you said was 'I want cake'." He smirked, but his blush gave his lie away.
"Cake?" Rev asked, unconvinced.
"Well, and that you…." Tech trailed off, looking down.
"Tech, Rev, Zadavia's online." Ace's voice was heard over the intercom. Both of them hurried out, not only wanting to go talk to their boss, but also to avoid the extremely uncomfortable conversation.
"That is very troubling." Replied Zadavia, staring down on the Loonatics from her position over the hologram projector. "Are you sure there was nothing she could use in that lab, Tech?"
"Positive." Replied Tech firmly. "If she would have any interest in it, it would be for the bio electro nanites… but she can't do anything with them, they're still in experimental mode at present time and even still… she works with machinery. She couldn't use bio electro nanites with robots. It just doesn't add up."
"Well then why in God's name would she even be interested in them?" snapped Duck irritably. He had had a nasty run in with an escaped viper, trying to assist Slam, and he was nursing the now poison free bite on his upper arm looking grim. "Sounds to me like that stuff would be used on living things."
"Well, yeah, they're mainly trying to see if they can use them in the medical field." Answered Tech. "But it's been proven difficult. There's been nasty…complications." He explained.
"What kind of compli-" Lexi started but was cut off by the alarm.
"Now what?" Duck asked exasperated.
"D'a Park." Ace answered, bringing up a satellite view of the city's park. They saw Massive, Syfer and Weather Vein running around causing mayhem. People were screaming and trying to run out of harm's way.
"Kay gang, let's jet." Ordered Ace looking sternly at the scene on the computer screen and everyone immediately ran for the hanger where their newly debugged jet packs sat waiting for them.
"You really thought I forgot about you?" Weather Vein roared as a high wind lifted up Misty Breeze from where she was standing, her microphone falling to the ground.
"Well, I was hoping." Misty grumbled with her arms crossed, not even trying to fight against the wind. There was a pop and a flash of orange light as Duck appeared. He grabbed a hold of her and quacked back to earth.
"Misty Breeze." He said awed.
"Oh, it's you." Misty said unenthusiastically as she saw her 'number one fan'. "I'm not signing anything else so you can just forget about asking me."
"But, I just got the new Misty Breeze lunch box." He said pleadingly.
"Duck! You can try and charm your girlfriend later! We have trouble now!" shouted Lexi as she avoided Syfer and tried to assist Ace with Massive.
"What are ya freaks aft'a any hows?" Ace asked through gritted teeth as he fought against Massive's hold.
"Nothing really, we're just out having a good time." Sneered Syfer as he came up behind Slam. Rev rushed between them knocking Syfer away from the purple devil.
"Tech! Tell me ya got somet'in up ya sleeve." Ace called to the coyote who was dogging lightning shots from Weather Vein.
"Wish I could Chief." Tech called back. "But everything I've tried has just been blasted by miss Mother Nature here." He indicated a pile of burnt metal, the weapons he'd tried to use against Weather Vein, obviously electrified.
"Oooh." Slam moaned looking at them.
"Alright guys, I think we've had enough fun." Massive called. Raising his hands he held all the Loonatics down, with the exception of Rev who was moving too fast to be captured, and signaled to Weather Vein. She conjured a cloud and all three of them soared in the air.
Rev tried to catch them but Weather Vein conjured a fog. He gritted his teeth, using his built in GPS to locate them.
"Nice-try-but-no-dice!" he called, grabbing a hold of all three and racing back to the earth.
Massive managed to get one of his hands free and immediately all of them stopped moving.
"What?" Syfer looked confused. But Rev knew exactly what he had done. He had taken all the gravity off of them, now they were just floating in mid air.
Massive and the others shoved Rev away and Massive restored the gravity to them. As Weather Vein glided them away on her cloud, Massive reached his arm back and restored Rev's gravity as well. Before he could give chase again, Rev found himself falling. He tried to pull out of the dive but the force of Massive's power was too strong for him to shake.
Rev closed his eyes, readying himself for the impact; it did not come. Looking around him he saw Tech, floating above him, holding him firmly.
"You okay, Rev?" he asked him, slowly lowering him to the ground where the other Loonatics waited.
"Yeah-Tech. Wow-thanks-a lot-buddy-I-thought-I-was-a-goner-for-sure." Rev said shakily. "Sorry-about-letting-them-get-away-but-I-promise-I'll-get-them-next-time." He gave Ace and the others a determined glance.
"T'at's okay, Rev." Ace told him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Ya did good." He gave the road runner a reassuring smile which Rev only have heartily returned.
"I wonder what that was all about?" asked Lexi looking puzzled. "I doubt that they were just out to be out."
"Right you are, Lexi." Zadavia's voice rang out and a second later she appeared on Lexi's communicator. All of the Loonatics gathered around to hear what Zadavia's news was. "While you lot were busy at the park, the Acmetropollis Geology Center was broken into. She put up an image of Sykes, Mastermind and Dare running out of the Geology Center, Dare holding some sort of rock in his hands.
"What's he got, a pebble?" Duck asked.
"That 'pebble' is a piece of the meteor which hit Acmetropollis. They had put it up as a part of a geological historical event display." Zadavia explained. "Seeing as how it had such an enormous effect on the planet."
"T'is really isn't add'n up at alls." Muttered Ace. "What would t'ose guys want wi't bio electro nanites and a piece of da meteor?"
Tech frowned, thinking. "I can't figure it out." He sounded annoyed, and he probably was. After all, he was the smartest one, not to mention he had been Mallory's mentor. If he couldn't figure out what she was plotting… well, quite frankly no one could.
"Well, I don't really think there's anything we can do about it now." Piped up Lexi. "We just have to wait till they resurface."
"Agreed." Said Zadavia. "We'll keep each other updated. Zadavia out."
"Seriously, where does she go?" asked Lexi, turning off her communicator.
"Don't know." Replied Ace. "But we're head'n back t'a HQ, come on Loonatics."
Okay, so they now have bio electro nanites and piece of the meteor...confusing enough? lol, everything will come together as the story goes on...to be honest, I didn't even know where this was going at first and I was the one writing it. lol.
