Ch. 3: A Fearful Confession
"A movie?" asked Ace when Slam had pointed to the TV in response to Duck's question, "Well, now what do we do?"
Slam nodded eagerly. "(To take our minds off of things. Maybe if we don't think about it for a while, things will become clearer to see.)" he explained through his grumbles.
They looked impressed with this line of thinking. "Wow, Slam, you're not as dumb as you look." Stated Duck, his arms crossed. Slam looked confused and slightly hurt at this.
"Shut up, Duck. At least he's smarter then you." Snapped Lexi.
"Calm down ya guys." Ace said, intervening before things got outa hand. "Good idea Slam, what movie ya gots in mind?"
Slam held up a white DVD cover. They looked at him, stunned.
"Are ya sure?" Ace asked looking sideways at Lexi.
"I just remembered," she stated. "I have to go and reorganize my music collection."
"Oh no." smirked Ace. "Ya watch'n with us, Lex." He walked up to her and whispered in her ear. "And don't worry, ya can handle whatever evil tricks t'a shadows try and pull on ya tonight."
She tried to glare at him but it was ruined by a small smile. "Fine."
"Well, you guys go ahead. I'm off to the lab to try and-"
"Ya too's, Tech." Ace cut across him. "We're all watch'n it. I t'inks Slam has a good point. We need t'a give ourselves a break from t'is for a whiles. And like Lex said earliers, we can't do anyt'in at t'a moment so why not rest up and save our energy, includ'n our t'ink'n energy, till t'a next battle."
"What-is-this-movie-even-about?" Rev asked. He was the only one who hadn't looked startled at the cover that Slam held up.
"You've never seen it?" replied Lexi, shocked. Rev shook his head.
"Well, just watch. You might gain a new found 'love' for clowns after you see it." Duck told him, secretly wishing that he was somewhere else. This movie always gave him nightmares. But of course he wasn't going to say so. After all, he was Danger Duck, the fearless warrior of the Loonatics.
Tech gave Rev a small smile. "You're not already scared of clowns, are you Rev?" a knowing look in his eyes.
Rev gulped. "Of-course-not-Tech.-Why-would-you-think-that?" Then the memory of him sleep talking came back. Oh shit, did I say something about clowns? He thought nervously.
About an hour and half into the movie, Rev was balled up on the sofa next to Tech, his knees drawn up to his chest, his terror filled eyes, looking over them, were glued to the screen.
"Hi there, Girly Boy." The clown's cold voice echoed around the tiled shower room. "Feel free to come and visit any time." He said gleefully, twiddling his fingers at the kid curled up in fear in the corner, hyperventilating as he saw the clown pop out of the drain, propping on his elbow and resting his head in his hand. "Bring your friends." The clown let out a maddening laugh and put his head all the way back, revealing sharp, yellow, monster teeth.
Rev gasped and hid his face. Another thirty minutes passed and now he was shaking.
"Beep, beep, Richey."
The man covered his ears. "I didn't hear that." He said. The image of a yellow balloon was floating up on the ceiling.
"What's the matter, one balloon not enough for ya, Richey? How about a hundred." Cried the clown as more balloons appeared. They started to float down and pop. One of the them popped in front of Richey and he screamed as blood shot in his face.
"Excuse me sir, but do you have Prince Albert in a can? You do? Well, you better let the poor guy out!" the clown's cold, maniacal laughter was heard as Richey ran out of the library.
Finally, at long last, the movie was over. Rev was hiding his face, shaking worse than ever. Lexi was shaking as well, but not as bad. After all, she had seen Stephen King's IT before, and knew what to expect. Duck was trying his best not look as scared as he felt, but he doubt he was pulling it off. Everyone's attention however was on Rev.
"Well?" asked Tech, a smile on his lips. "How ya feel about clowns now?"
Rev didn't answer. He felt like such a baby. He looked up and Tech's smile vanished as he saw Rev's face. Tear tracks were visible on the bird's feathers.
"I'mfineTech, honestly,I'mnotscaredatall." He tried to reassure them, talking even faster than usual.
"Rev, come on. I could use some help with a machine that might help us stop the Evil Ken Evil gang from carrying out their plans…whatever they are." Tech lied, holding a paw out to help Rev off the sofa. He was feeling bad. It seemed that Rev was really shaken by the movie.
As the two left the room, Ace turned to Lexi. "What abouts ya, Lex? How ya hold'n up?"
"No worse than usual." She managed to whisper, her face a little pail.
"Duck?" Ace turned to the mallard who was sitting next to the sofa, still staring at the blank TV screen.
"Are you kidding? Danger Duck shrinks from no demonic clown." He squeaked out.
"Right." Said Ace. He turned back to Lexi. "Come on Lex. We might as well try and coordinate some sort of attack plan. Slam's theory seemed t'a work. My mind's clear'n up a little." She nodded and followed him out of the room. Secretly he was leading her to his own room to try and calm her down.
Duck looked at Slam. "Well," he said. "Move over big guy, time for some mind numbing cartoons." That oughta calm my nerves down. He thought as he grabbed the remote and jumped up on the sofa to sit next to Slam who apparently had no objection to this. He got up and went to grab something to eat before rejoining Duck.
In the lab, Tech was just half concentrating on what he was tinkering with. He kept looking sideways at Rev who still hadn't calmed down any.
With his super speed, his heart rate is already twice the usual tempo it should be. Thought Tech. And when he get's scared like this, it's amazing he hasn't gone into cardiac arrest. He put down what he was doing and scooted closer to where Rev sat, staring straight ahead of him, his eyes glazed over with fear. It wasn't till Tech wrapped an arm around his slender shoulders, did Rev move at all.
Giving a quick jump, he turned his head around and saw Tech looking at him in concern.
"Hey, you okay?" Tech asked him. "I'm so sorry, Rev. I should've talked Ace out of making us watch that movie. With your nerves already shaken up from battle, and you already being afraid of clowns, I should've realized that you wouldn't be able to handle it very well."
Rev felt tears come to his eyes. He didn't want to be the baby here. He wanted to prove to Tech, and the others, that he could handle it.
"Tech,-I-lied." He muttered. He didn't know why he was telling him. "I-have-seen-that-movie-before.-I-didn't-remember-until-half-way-through,-during-the-shower-scene,-but-I-have-seen-it-before,-when-I-was-really-little.-Pop-was-watching-it-and-didn't-realize-I-had-walked-in-the-room.-He-turned-it-off-the-moment-he-saw-me,-but-the-damage-was-done.-That's-why-I-am-so-scared-of-clowns.-Although-I-probably-would-be-anyways,-I-mean-with-their-big-red-shoes,-red-noses,-white-faces,-and-creepy-smiles,-it's-just-not-natural-Tech."
Tech had let him ramble on, knowing that he needed to get it off his chest. But now he put his paw over Rev's beak. "Rev, I understand. But you have to realize that this fear is completely irrational. It was just a stupid movie created by a guy who has some serious issues." Tech said soothingly. "Nothing can hurt you. And as long as you stay away from the circus, then you're okay." He smiled gently as Rev wiped his tears away with the back of his hand. He let out a small hic-up as he gave Tech a thankful smile. He knew his fear was ridiculous, but he couldn't help it.
"By-the-way-Tech." He said after he got his breathing under control. "How-did-you-know-that-I-was-afraid-of-clowns?"
"I didn't. I was just trying to mess with you." Tech said, a small tone of glee in his voice to know that he had been right. "I figured you'd have to be after I saw your reaction to the movie though. It was kind of obvious."
Rev gave another hic-up. "Oh-great." He muttered.
"But only to me, seeing as how it was me you decided to use as a strong hold during the whole thing." Tech said.
"What?" Rev asked confused.
"You don't remember grabbing my arm?" Tech laughed. Rev shook his head. "Yeah, it was right when all the blood came out of the sink in the girl's house." Said Tech. "You let go after a while, but you had a pretty firm grip." He removed his arm from Rev's shoulders and rubbed it to emphasize his point.
"Aww,-gee-I'm-really-sorry-about-that-Tech.-I-didn't-mean-to-you-know.-It's- just-the-movie-really-scared-me-and-I-wasn't-really-aware-of-what-I-was-doing-" Tech put his paw over Rev's beak again.
"It's okay, Rev." he said, replacing his arm around Rev's shoulders. "I don't mind, really."
Rev looked up at him, startled by this. "Really?-You-don't?"
Tech shook his head slightly. His cheeks had regained the light blush they had had earlier. Rev was reminded that Tech had never really told him what it was he had muttered in his sleep. He remembered what he had dreamed, it had been the same dream he's had for a while, ever since he had realized how he felt about the ingenious coyote.
"Rev, did you mean what you said?" Tech asked him cautiously.
"What-did-I-say?" asked the road runner apprehensively.
"When you were sleeping… you muttered something about how you really felt about someone." Tech said slowly.
"Who?-It-wasn't-Duck-was-it?" Rev asked. "Because-I-didn't-mean-I-wanted-to-kill-him-or-anything.-I-just-meant-that-I-wished-he'd-stop-being-such-a-" Tech once again clamped his paw over Rev's beak.
"No, it wasn't Duck." He said looking bemused.
Crap. Thought Rev. He had been trying to through Tech off the sent.
Tech put his paw up to Rev's face and turned it to look at him straight in the eyes. Rev felt his stomach lurch as he saw Tech's caramel eyes look sternly into his own emerald ones. "You were talking about someone else, Rev. You were talking about me. You called out my name more than once." He said softly.
"I…did?" Rev asked, talking slowly now.
"Tell me, Rev. Did you mean what you said? Is that really how you feel?" Tech asked him again.
Okay, now that you know it was Stephen King...don't hate me or anything but I HATE THAT MOVIE! Like Rev, I was exposed to it when I was really little...unlike Rev, my dear loving parents didn't turn it off...heh oh well...what's Rev going to say? I know I'm making him sound like a baby and everything...but he just has that sensitive personality ya know. I also know that he shouldn't be that shaken up over battle like that...but whatever...let me know how ya lik'n it so far!
