Ch. 4: Ambushed
Rev gulped. What could he say? Tech had him trapped now. He wanted to deny it, to spare their friendship. He'd rather have that then have Tech hate him. But of course, he couldn't keep their friendship if he lied to him.
"I'm-really-sorry-Tech.-Please-don't-be-upset-with-me.-I-wanted-to-tell-you.-But-I-didn't-want-you-to-be-mad-at-me.-After-all,-I-know-you-like-Zadavia,-the-whole-team-keeps-talking-about-it.-Duck's-always-complaining-about-you-being-her-favorite,-even-above-Ace.-But-I-can't-help-feeling-this-way.-I-don't-know-why-I-feel-like-this,-I-don't-want-to,-because-it-would-ruin-our-friendship.-But-I-love-you-Tech,-I-really-do.-And-now-that-you-know-that,-I'm-sure-you'll-never-want-to-talk-to-me-again,-just-promise-" Tech once again silenced him, but not with his paw this time.
Rev stared for a moment before closing his eyes, sinking into the kiss. More tears fell from beneath his eye lids as Tech moved his paw from his face to wrap around his body, holding him close. Once they broke apart, Tech rested his head on Rev's, as Rev pressed his face into Tech's chest, sobbing his heart out. From the fear of almost dying, to the fear of confessing how much of a baby he was, to this nerve wracking confession of how he really felt about his best friend, Rev just couldn't hold it together any longer.
Tech stroked his back comfortingly as he spoke. "Rev," he began soothingly. "I wish you had told me sooner. Here I am, thinking that I'm the only one, I feel like such a pee brain." He smiled. "I have no idea what you guys are talking about with me and Zadavia. The only reason she treats me the way she does is because, unlike you guys, I've never been a social person. I've been able to communicate well enough when need be, but because I stay in the lab half my life, she knew that joining a team would be a hard transition for me. She just wanted to help me ease into this whole 'engaging in society' thing a little, that's all. And yes, I do like her, but as a sister. I can connect with her a little more because of our intelligence levels being almost identical, but it doesn't go any further than that, I promise you. Plus, she doesn't have a favorite, she has a least favorite, which is Duck, but where the rest of us in concerned, she doesn't have a favorite."
Rev smiled a little, looking up at him, tears still falling as a result of his shot nerves.
"Come on, love." Tech said, wiping the tears away. "What's say you and I go and relax from this messed up day. Maybe brainstorm on what those villains are up to, huh?" Rev nodded, and together they headed to Tech's room.
Meanwhile, on the small island a few miles off the city's main port, Mastermind, Sykes, Weather Vein, Massive, Dare and Syfer, were formulating their plans.
"Is everything ready, Dare?" Mastermind asked as she filled a syringe with a clear liquid.
"Just a few more minutes, then my magma creatures will be ready to melt those Loonatics for good." cackled Dare.
"Did we steel everything?" Weather Vein asked. She was standing by Massive who had an arm around her. They were leaning up against a tree watching the other two as they worked.
"That and much more." Mastermind said gleefully. "I've got some surprises for those animals."
"Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?" Syfer asked, sitting on a rock and looking at Mastermind. "Hit them hard, hit them fast." He explained. "Don't waist time by fooling around unnecessarily."
"How do you plan on getting their attention this time?" Sykes asked. He wasn't listening to the others. His arms were crossed and he was staring at the stretch of water that separated the island from the city.
"We lure them to us." Mastermind explained. "There's an old empty ware house that'll do just nicely."
"Just remember, Ace is mine." He said.
"But of course. As long as you make sure you leave the dog to me." She replied, grinning evilly.
"You'll have the cages ready, right Doc?" Massive asked, looking over at Dare.
"Precisely." Was all that Dare said. "Get ready, they're done." He stepped back as huge, igneous rocks stepped out of the magma flow. The magma glowed in their cracks, which ran all over like veins, and when they stood up, everyone gaped. "Yes, my creatures. Rise and destroy." cried Dare madly.
Tech held Rev close. He was propped up in his bed and Rev was in his lap, head on chest, finally calmed down. He had cried himself to sleep and Tech was sitting back, taking in the reality that he was finally his. His peaceful serenity didn't last long however, for about an hour after Rev had fallen asleep, the alarm went off.
Rev sat up so quickly that he hit the top of his head on Tech's jaw. Clutching it and moaning in pain, Tech reached out and put an arm around Rev's shoulders, pulling him back to his chest. Rev looked up and put his hand over his beak.
"Oh-Tech-I'm-so-sorry-I-didn't-mean-to-" but Tech, putting a paw over his beak, shook his head as he released his jaw.
"Don't worry about it. Come on, we have to get going." Tech assured him with a smile that was almost a grimace of pain.
When they reached the main room, Duck and Slam were already standing there, waiting for Ace to give them the situation. Lexi was yawning, but did her best to look alert.
"Appears t'ey jus don't knows when t'a quits." said Ace, glaring at the screen. It showed Mastermind, Massive and Weather Vein attacking what looked like a small lab. Two men were trying to stop them from taking whatever they were after. "Let's jet."
"Loonatics! Thank God!" shouted one of the men as the gang landed behind the three villains. Massive turned around and forced all of them down on their hands and knees. Rev once again managed to escape. He ran up and punched Massive as hard as he could in the face (and moving at about 125 miles per, that would kinda hurt). The others got quickly to their feet and advanced on the other two. Weather Vein went straight for Rev, shooting lightning bolts at him. Rev started running in every direction, avoiding every one. Tech tried to come to his aid, but was cut off by Mastermind. "Oh no, you're mine dog breath!" she shrieked in glee.
"How many times do I have to tell you?" Tech asked wearily. "I'm not a dog, I'm a COYOTE!" he raised his hands and lifted two metal panels from the ground and shot them at her, one on either side. She did a spectacular back flip and narrowly avoided being crushed between the on coming metal.
Massive, although slightly dazed, was on his feet again, fighting Ace, Duck and Slam. All of whom were finding it extremely difficult to get anywhere near him. Ace shot a blast at him which was easily dogged. Slam tried slamming him into the wall but Massive just took his gravity away before he reached him. Duck was able to transport Slam back to earth, but both of them were immediately held down by another gravitational pull. Ace, who had tried to come to their aid also fell to the ground again.
Lexi was shooting brain blast after brain blast at Weather Vein as Rev tried to diverted her attention. Weather Vein, however, turned her attention to Lexi and started hitting her with hail the size of Easter eggs. Rev tried coming to her rescue, but Massive threw Ace, Slam and Duck into him, sending all four flying into the wall of the lab.
Tech, seeing his friends slam into the wall, gritted his teeth as he tried aiming for Massive. Mastermind intersected however, and Tech had to pull up a magnetic shield as she aimed a blast of molecular energy beams at him. He managed to gain some ground and flipped over her head, landing back to back with Lexi.
"Tech, tell me you have a plan." She whispered as the three freaks closed in on them.
"Well, I would if I could." He whispered back. "But, for once, I'm stumped."
They straightened up and started retreating back towards the lab. "Maybe if we can barricade ourselves inside, I might be able to use whatever's in there to make something that can get us out of this mess." He explained.
"Good idea." She agreed fervently.
As both of them ran to the door, the others, who were still dazed from the crash, followed them inside.
"Well?" asked Lexi, looking over her shoulder at Tech. "See anything useful?"
Tech looked around. "Uh, Lexi?" he said. "I don't see anything at all." She turned her back to the door which Slam and Ace were holding closed and looked at the lab.
"Great! Now what genius?" snapped Duck as they all saw that what was supposed to be a lab, was completely empty, not even a stray test tube lay on the floor.
"Guys-this-isn't-a-lab-it's-a-ware-house." Rev stated.
"It's a trap!" cried Tech.
Cold laughter was heard as the two men the team took to be scientists came out from behind pillars on the opposite side of the room. "Well done." Said one of them, morphing into Syfer.
"Unfortunately, you're a little late to do anything about it." Said the other, morphing into Sykes. Gas started poring out of the open vents and Sykes and Syfer put masks over their faces.
"Guys, hold ya-" Ace tried to warn them but he was already coughing too much from the knock out gas.
"Sweet dreams, Loonatics." He heard Sykes cackle before his eyes slammed shut.
Okay, they walked right into that one... keep reading and see what horrors await for them now that they're in the hands of the six most twisted minds ever to appear on a childrens show...
