Roy just didn't understand. At all.
The mood on the train ride back was excitable, to say the least. Stories were exchanged, as well as talk of what the future would hold. And, the main subject was his friend's wishing that their train could go faster because "he just couldn't wait to see his girls again."
So why the need to stop by the nearest gift shop once they got off at the station? Why the need for the giant teddy bear?
But, once they reached the house, he understood. What better way to greet your daughter than with a show of affection you could hide behind in order to surprise her?
And, Roy could only smile as the excited shriek echoed through the streets. Because then he knew that the ruse was worth it.
"PAPA!"
And, there he stood watching as Elicia Hughes sidestepped the teddy bear into the waiting arms of her father.
