Characters: Vecchio and Fraser

This takes place during "Heaven and Earth." I noticed that Ray, for once, is looking a little scruffy around the edges. This ensued.

CHANGE CAN BE FUN

Benton found himself—

Fascinated.

He was fascinated with the stubble on Ray's jaw. He'd never seen the man bearded before—no, this was a guy who wore Armani. This was a guy who shaved on a stake out. Ray seemed to honestly believe that if he slicked his hair back in just the right way across his head, no one would notice the rapidly thinning patch. He was, in short, a very well-groomed officer, given the often compromising circumstances.

And yet here he was, strained, rumpled, and sporting what one could almost call a beard. Something about a missing girl who might be alive and might be dead, Benton supposed, distracted his usually impeccable partner from shaving. There was something noble about that, something so raw and personal, that the Mountie just had to commend. Missing young women deserve the worry.

And yet

Benton found himself peering past his binoculars towards his partner's jaw. He was struck with the sudden desire to trace that rare patch of stubble with his tongue: achingly, tantalizingly slowly, and—

Oh.

It was enough to make him red in the face.
