Just a cute little Grojband one shot. I'm thinking about making a multi chapter story for the show. But I'm stuck on which of several plot lines to use. So have some Corney for the moment.

2021 Update: I decided to go back and redo this story, as well as making the fic 'More than Cake' non-canon to the rest of my Groj-fics. So this fic now leads into a little more than it did before...

The sound of thunder boomed in the sky. Most of the people of Peaceville were sound asleep at 12:00 a.m.,except for a young band of 13-year-olds inside of the Riffin household's garage.

Inside said Garage, Corey Riffin, Laney Penn, and Kin and Kon Kujira were sitting on a couch watching a movie. It was a horror film about some teens who stayed in a haunted castle with a murderer on the loose, killing everyone off one by one. As the film was coming to a close, the three boys clung to their seats in terror, while the redheaded girl nonchalantly munched on some popcorn.

"No... NO!" a scream on tv cried out in terror as a knife appeared and blood splattered over the screen as 'the end' appeared. Kon peaked out under the cushions that he was hiding under and asked "I-i-is it over?" his voice shook. "Y-yeah it's over." Kin confirmed to his brother as he came out from behind the couch. Corey removed his hands from his eyes, putting up a brave front "So it was a little more intense than we were expecting, but at least it's over." The guitarist got up a little too quickly to eject the disk from the TV.

The bassist was the only one that didn't look like she'd been scared at all. "Eh, it was alright. But the effects were a letdown." The boys looked at her strangely. "What?" she raised an eyebrow. "You really weren't scared by that at all?" the frontman asked. Laney shrugged. "Yeah, there's not really anything that scares me."

"You said it was scary when Kon ran around naked that day at the harbor." Kin reminded her. Laney shuddered at the memory "No, I said it scarred me for life, not that it was scary."

"OK, so then what if we had been in the same situation as the movie people? Would you be scared then?" Kon wondered. Laney shook her head "No because none of us are as dumb as those guys were. I mean, seriously, all they did was make bad decisions! They left their weapons behind during an escape attempt. One girl had to stop and touch up her makeup, and the main couple couldn't wait until they were out of danger to have their first kiss!"

"Actually…" Kon sheepishly objected to the last comment, "Wha-No! Kon, that was a terrible choice!" Laney slapped a hand on her forehead "COME ON! If I'm going to die I should at least get my first non-bear kiss!"

Without warning, the power shorted out and plunged the garage into darkness. The Kujira twins shrieked and leapt up in the air "IT'S THE KILLER!" They raced behind the couch and hid.

"Guys, it's only a blackout. The storm must have caused it." Corey reassured his friends, as they poked their heads up from their hiding space. Laney used her phone as a flashlight to find the closest window, looking outside and seeing the terrible conditions "What now Core? We can't go home in this weather."

"Then I guess it's time for..." Corey paused for dramatic effect "a sleepover!" he announced.

WICKED COOL TRANSITION

The band had changed into some night gear. Corey wore his everyday outfit but without his hat or black tank top. Laney wore one of Trina's old pajamas, which was a yellow long-sleeved shirt that buttoned up in front with matching pants. Kin and Kon wore matching t-shirts with the band logo on it they always kept in the garage.

Kin and Kon took up the couch in the garage, leaving Laney to sleep in Corey's room. She laid out a pillow and blanket in the middle of his floor. Laney was glad the lights were out. This way Corey couldn't see the deep red blush on her cheeks as she realized it was just the two of them for the whole night.

"So you're really not afraid of anything, Lanes?" She turned to look toward Corey's bed, where her crush was looking at her. "No, I don't think so." Laney laid back in her pillow "But definitely not scary movies."

Corey was glad to have Laney close by for the night, he was still freaked out by what he had seen and didn't want to be alone that night. With Laney close by, he felt at ease. "What about you, Core?" She asked, "I know you weren't as freaked out as the twins, but…"

"I'm good, thinking about all the dumb choices dulled down the scare factor." Corey reassured her. The two closed their eyes and fell asleep. The redhead dozed off as a thought crossed her mind, "Am I really not afraid of anything…"

LANEY'S DREAM TRANSITION

Laney found herself surrounded by darkness. A single spotlight shone down on her from above. "Where am I?" She looked around, trying to see anything else around.

The spotlight expanded to reveal a stage. Her bandmates stood a few feet away at their respective instruments. "Oh cool, must be another concert dre- "

No, something was wrong. There was no audience, and her friends made no move to play. Laney noticed she lacked her bass. An uneasy feeling crawled up her spine. "Guys…?" She approached Kin first. He was the closest to her. She reached out to touch his shoulder "Kin, what's going on?" The moment her hand touched him, Kim's arm turned a charcoal black and disintegrated "Kin?!"

It didn't stop with his arm. The same effect spread to the rest of him and Laney could do nothing as she watched him crumble to dust. She took a step back, horrified by what had just happened to her friend. She looked around to the other boys frantically, but neither paid any attention to the loss of their keyboardist.

Laney ran over to Kon next. How could he not react to seeing his brother disappear? "Kon! What just happened to Kin?!" She avoided touching him for fear of the same thing happening to the drummer. Unfortunately, Laney saw the same black rot spread across his skin, leaving him to turn into ashes before her eyes.

Terrified, Laney turned to Corey, praying that it hadn't happened to him yet. When she looked there wasn't a stage anymore, the scenery instantly shifted to some sort of labyrinth "Core!" She called out, desperate to find him. A silhouette moved out of the corner of her vision. Laney ran off and tried to follow it.

The maze seemed endless. It didn't matter how far she ran, every twist and turn looked the same. She repeatedly caught sight of the shadow but could never catch up to it "Core! Corey, is that you?!"

It seemed like an eternity before Laney reached the center of the labyrinth. She stopped to catch her breath and glanced up at the figure she had been chasing. The person had stopped running. They simply stood still and waited for Laney to approach. Laney took a step forward, and a spotlight shone down on the figure. It really was Corey after all.

"Corey!" she called as she sprinted over to him. Laney slowed down and stopped just before the spotlight reached her. She tried but couldn't move any further. "Hello Laney." Corey's voice was unnaturally calm and monotone. Laney spent several seconds simply staring at his face. It felt wrong, a pit of dread sunk to her stomach "Core, what's going on? What happened to Kin and Kon?"

She got no response. Corey just stared as if he was looking straight through her "Why are you acting like this?" Laney couldn't hide the rising panic in her voice. Corey reached his hand out to her, and Laney held her own out to hold it. She grabbed hold and her panic rose. It felt like his hand was melting. It was melting!

His arm darkened and turned into a thick black goo. Whatever didn't run on Laney's arm fell to the floor with a loud splat. Laney watched in horror as the rest of Corey was subjected to the same thing. His eyes rolled back into his head, leaving empty white balls staring back at her.

Gasping in horror, Laney collapsed to the ground, desperately trying to hold on to her crush as he melted away in her arms. "COREY!" she cupped his cheek, eyes wide with fear. Corey tried to say something to her, but his mouth melted away before he could. Laney could only watch as Corey became a puddle, coating her skin and clothes as his form disappeared.

Laney's skin paled. Tears leaked from her eyes. The shock and horror of what she had witnessed overwhelmed every other sense "COREY!"

VERY DISTURBING TRANSITION

The young guitarist slept peacefully. Although he dreamt of himself and his friends in the roles of the film they had been watching, he wasn't scared. It probably had to do with the fact he and Laney were about to re-enact the kiss scene. His eyes shot open before he could continue his dream. A muffled sound in the real world stirred him awake.

"Huh-wha?!" He sat up in his bed, looking around his bedroom. His eyes landed on the red-haired girl on the floor, tossing and turning as she mumbled in her sleep, "... come back…" he could faintly make out.

Corey got out of bed and sat down beside Laney, nudging her and loudly whispering, "Lanes! Lanes!" she woke up suddenly and sat up with a gasp, sweat covering her forehead and a flash of terror in her eyes "Laney…?" at the sound of her name, Laney finally noticed her crush sitting next to her, staring at her in concern.

"Core!" she breathed a sigh of relief "Oh thank goodness, it was only a dream." Her hands flew up to cover her mouth, inwardly cursing at herself for letting that slip. As dense as Corey could be with feelings, even he recognized what had happened "Did you… have a nightmare?"

Reluctantly, Laney nodded "Yeah…" this was so uncool, she was supposed to be the tough one, but even she had a few cracks in her defense's. Before she could start worrying about what Corey would think, she felt a pair of arms wrap around her and pull her into an embrace "Do you wanna talk about it?" he asked quietly.

Laney barely hesitated before returning his hug, nuzzling closer into her shoulder "I can't really explain all of it, but I watched you and the twins… die… right in front of me…" she admitted, somehow able to feel the shocked expression on Corey's face "... We-... I-" he couldn't find any words to respond with. Corey settled for just holding on to her even tighter. It was comforting, just quietly sitting like this.

"Maybe I am afraid of something… losing you." Laney confessed "... a-and Kin and Kon." she awkwardly added, hoping he wouldn't notice the original implications. The two finally undid their embrace so they could look each other in the eyes "That'll never happen, Lanes. I promise." Corey really meant it, he was afraid of losing her too… and Kin and Kon.

Feeling any remaining fear melt away as she gazed into his calming blue eyes, Laney lay back down in her makeshift blanket and pillow bed "Thanks, Core. I think I can go back to sleep now." She watched him nod and go back to his bed. Pulling her blanket up to her chin, Laney turned away and closed her eyes… and then felt a tug on her blanket and an arm falling over her.

Laney turned around to find Corey laying down next to her, his own pillow parallel to hers "C-Corey!" she whisper-shouted, blushing a deep red. She couldn't tell, but Corey had a light blush across his own cheeks "Just in case the nightmares try to come back for my bud, I'll be right here to fight em off."

With a completely smitten smile, Laney moved, so that she was facing her crush, staring at him as she felt her eyelids drop "Goodnight Core." she was close enough to feel his warmth, it made her feel safe as she drifted off to sleep once more. Corey didn't close his eyes yet, he continued to stare at his best friend with a content smile. She always made him feel safe, so it was his turn to return the favor. They could always depend on one another, it's one reason that he loved her-

Corey's eyes widened… processing that last thought of his…

Cute huh? Soon I will put up a voting for which of my ideas will become a full on fanfiction. Check for it in a few weeks.

Thanks for coming out everyone (closes garage door) (mutters to self) I always wanted to do that!
