Sweet Home Arkansas

After Fiona's big show of glitz and glamour we stopped at a cheap hotel outside of Memphis for the night, the rooms were small and consisted of two double beds and a pullout couch with a crappy old TV. The tacky yellow-and-white striped wallpaper was peeling off, this really says something about the hotel's effort to keep their rooms nice. But despite the appalling scene that was our room we were all tired and fell asleep almost immediately. I woke up at two in the morning, I tossed and turned in bed trying to fall back asleep.
"You can't sleep either?" I heard someone whisper, in the dark I could just barely see Christina's face as she sat next to me on the bed.
"No." I whispered back. Christina has been acting awkward towards me since we saw her and Ronaldo together. "You know that I'm okay with you and Ronaldo going out, right?"
She looked at me, I couldn't really see but her face probably turned red. "Thanks, I just thought, you know he's your ex and you're my best friend, I didn't want to hurt your feelings."
I smiled, she was so considerate. Even though Ronaldo and I broke up years ago and we have no interest in each other anymore she wanted my permission to date him. "Thank you. And if I were you I wouldn't worry about Mouth disapproving your relationship with Ronaldo, he loves and wants you to be happy, so don't worry he'll come around." I told her quietly, she smiled and nodded.
"What about you?" She asked. "I mean you and Kick have always had a thing for each other."
I blushed, she wasn't wrong there and she knew it. She, Moxie, and Fiona are the only people I've told about the kiss in the movie theatre, they were the only people I could trust, I didn't even tell Ember.
"Do you think you'll ever kiss him again?" Christina asked bashfully.
Well I've got nothing to hide.
"I hope so." I whispered back, we giggled but abruptly stopped, remembering that Moxie and Fiona were asleep.

The next morning we went to a complimentary breakfast in the hotel restaurant, there wasn't much variety, bagels, toast, and various cereals. The eight of us ate our breakfast quickly and checked out. I saw Christina pull Ronaldo aside, last night she decided that she would come clean and tell her brother that she and Ronaldo were dating.
"What are they talking about?" Kick asked me as he watched Christina and Ronaldo curiously.
"Their going to announce that their dating." I replied, Kick stifled a laugh.
"We all knew they were dating," Kick said with a playful eye roll. "I'm pretty sure Mouth already knows."
"Yeah, but some people can be totally oblivious when flirting." I looked straight at him as I said this.
He nodded his head in agreement, I looked away. He's so oblivious to everything I do, all of the hints that I drop, all the subtle flirting. The only reason I'm still wearing Moxie's clothes is to get a reaction out of him. Sometimes I feel like it's all useless, he'll never like me past friends, I should consider myself lucky that we're even getting along on this trip. I saw Christina and Ronaldo approach Mouth, after a brief conversation Mouth hugged his sister. I wanted to smile and be glad that things were normal again. I should have been happier about Mouth and Christina being on good terms again but I was sad. The more I thought about the twins the more I thought about my own sister, we were never on the best of terms and now I'm driving to Seattle for her. But if I'm being honest with myself I don't think she cares if we ever show up, whenever I tell her we'll be a few extra days she sounds happy. I know she doesn't care about me but can't she at least pretend? She is my sister after all. Whenever I fight with Ember mom tells me that she used to fight with her sister all the time, but when they grew up they became friends. I used to think that the same thing would happen with me and Ember but we are just too different, like summer and winter.

It's hotter than Hades in Arkansas, but that's just how I like it. It never gets this hot in Massachusetts and the dry heat that's making my friends turn up the air conditioning and roll down the windows is what's making me smile. I'm home daddy, I'm here. I know where my dad lives, maybe I could find a way to sneak away from my friends and finally meet him and my family. I love my foster parents, and my new little brother, no one could ever replace them but what adopted kid doesn't want to know their real family? My dad told me what happened and why I was given up, I understood the circumstances, he and my mother were teenagers. They couldn't raise a baby. I just wish I could see my mom, my dad never sent me any pictures and he hasn't seen my mother in years. But I'm here now. I'm home, and my life has never felt so right.
"Alright I'm thinking of a movie." Ronaldo said in a game of twenty questions.
"Is it a recent movie?" I asked.
"Not really. Nineteen." He replied
"Is it sci-fi?" Christina asked, although she knew what the answer was.
"Your not allowed to guess," Ronaldo told her flirtatiously. "But yes."
"Is it Inception?" Christina asked.
"Again you cant guess! And again, yes." Ronaldo admitted, Christina smiled and gave him a small kiss on his cheek.
I didn't really understand the movie Inception, and don't even get me started about the ending. If you have not seen Inception this is what happens, this guy Dom Cobb goes into dreams and steals secrets when the mind is at it's weakest. However sit goes down and dreams and reality gets screwed and everyone has this totem to tell them whether or not they are in the dream world. Basically at the end Dom could either be back in reality or trapped forever in the dream world, we don't really find out.
"How did you know it was Inception?" Kick asked Christina.
"It's Ronaldo's favourite movie," Christina replied, she smiled as though happy that she knew her boyfriend so well.
If Inception was Ronaldo's favourite movie then would Kendall know that? Even after they broke up they were pretty good friends. But judging by the blank look on her face she either didn't know or she was lost in her own dream world. Keep watching the top, will it fall? Nope she just keeps spinning and spinning out of reality as she watches the world pass by out the window, the highway leading us to a new town, getting closer with every passing mile.
"Why Inception?" Gunther asked Ronaldo.
"I don't know," Ronaldo replied with a shrug. "The mystery leaves you hanging and the science really is fascinating, but I like to think that Dom is in reality."
"Why do you think that?" I asked curiously. "He could just be dreaming about being with his kids."
"I don't think so," Ronaldo replied. "Anyways is anyone else hungry?"
"Yes!" Gunther exclaimed.
"Your always hungry." Moxie joked.
We got off the highway in search of a place to eat a late lunch, we finally decided to stop at a small diner called "Macintosh Celtic Grill" which I guessed by the name was a family business. We walked into the diner and got a table to seat eight, a waitress came by and handed us our menus. She looked really young, probably only eighteen, and she looked familiar with red hair and pale skin, and that slightly curled up nose that my mom refers to as a "ski jump nose." She had my nose, my hair, my skin, she looked like me.
"If you need anything just call, my name is Caroline Macintosh." She said with her southern accent and a smile, but the light in her eyes faded as she studied my face. Her hand flew to her mouth and a small gasp escaped her lips as she scurried off.
"What was that about?" Mouth wondered out loud. Christina flicked him in the ear and he gave her a look that said "What was that for?"
Obviously he hadn't seen the resemblance between me and that girl, but everyone else at the table did.
"That was crazy." Moxie said quietly as though someone was listening in on our conversation.
"You look like you could be sisters." Kendall added in shock.
"What did you say your dad's last name was?" Kick asked.
"Lockhart," I replied, looking around the diner to see that the waiters all kind of looked like me. "This is scary."
"What about your mom?" Kendall asked.
I didn't know. I never even thought about asking about my mom, I didn't know who she was or anything. Could she own this diner?
"I-I don't know" I replied honestly.
That's when Caroline came back with a short, round, Celtic woman with greying hair and my ski jump nose.
"Móraí, do you know this girl?" I barely heard Caroline whisper. I didn't know much Irish but I knew that Móraí meant grandmother.
Móraí studied me, looking me up and down. She yelled something in Irish at one of the boy waiters and pointed to the kitchen, the boy nodded and followed whatever orders that Móraí gave him. He emerged a moment later with a redhead woman in her thirties, she stopped in her tracks when she saw me.
"Cathleen," Móraí said to the woman. "Do you know who this young lady is?"
Cathleen looked at me, the face she never thought that she would see again, she smiled as tears began to fill her eyes.
"Yes I know who she is," Cathleen said happily. "She is my daughter."
