Chapter 5: Broken Heart

Grief landed from the trees onto the dirt road, staring up ahead while gritting his teeth in pain from the previous injuries he suffered. To his left and right were the giant sequoias that stood towering over him, blocking the rays of the sun that pierced through the blankets of the gray clouds. He began limping towards a tree, before resting his back against it. He suddenly heard cracking wood to his right and quickly readied his blade; prepare to defend his own life. But he was caught by surprise once he saw Insane Membrane looking at him from a distance.

"I-Insane," He gasped before lowering his weapon and falling back against the tree, "What are you doing here?" He asked as he as Insane approached him.

"I followed you, seen what you did to Julius, "That's not his name, "I know." Insane interrupted him causing him to look down at the ground frowning.

"Why did this happen, why didn't I see this coming?" Grief muttered.

Insane closed his eyes as he sat next to Grief, looking up before opening his eyes. "Because I had to make sure that you did not expect suspicious activities done by Ter'amor." He said causing Grief to look at him shock.

"You…you're part of the cult of Sasora, why did you not tell me?!" Grief asked, becoming angry, glaring at Insane, but he did not look at him or spoke, thus increasing Grief's anger. The swordspony unsheathed his sword but was quickly forced to the ground with Insane on top of him, pressing his right hoof against his forehead while his eyes began glowing neon blue.

"I thought of it as a mission, I did not know I was going to be falling for you," Insane said as tears started to swell up in his eyes, "Don't think for one second that I did not enjoy our time together."

Grief gritted his teeth feeling Insane's tears drip down on his left and right cheek. He wanted to hurt him, but deep down he could not bring himself to such measures. The grip on his sword began loosen before his blade was dropped to the green patch of grass. "What is your real name?" He asked.

"Sanity Cell." He answered as his tone lowered. He released Grief and got off of him, backing away as he gotten up from the grass, staring at the ground. The betrayal shattered his heart, causing him to lose all hope in Insane or Sanity Cell.

"So, Daniel, Julius or whatever his name was, and you are traitors to me and my family," Grief glanced up, picking up his blade and sheathing it back in its scabbard, "I…I know you won't harm them, but…the best you can do for me involving them is erase my memories about you and your existence and be sure to do the same to them." He said.

Sanity Cell looked at him shocked and confused. "W-why," He asked, finding the question strange but saddening, "What reason for me to erase their memories of…I…I see, I understand now." He said beginning to silence himself.

The wind started to pick up, carrying along the silence that hovered over the two. The feeling of guilt swallowed Sanity while the feeling of anger, deception, and misery strangled Grief in a pit of lament. Eventually, it finally broke once Sanity Cell took a few steps forward, placing his right hoof on his former lover's right cheek. He looked up at him, staring into the eyes drenched in pain. Soon, those eyes, Grief had turned dim as Sanity's hoof started glowing brightly blue.

Lowering his hoof, Grief fell to the ground asleep, as Sanity Cell closed his eyes, biting his lower lip lightly just before turning back. He started walking away, feeling the wind die down. "It was a matter of time before you figure it out, I knew it, but I could not stop it," He glanced back before leaping into the air, focusing his sight ahead, "But…at least you don't have to remember me. Do me a favor…" Grief's eyes slowly open, "kill Daniel."
