Stefan sat and watched Elena almost the whole night as Jeremy went back and forth from the NICU and Elena's room. After putting his blood in Elena's bag Damon chose not sit in the room because of the tension between he Stefan. All Stefan could do was pray that she survived, with no sleep he watched and held her hand thinking of what could possibly go wrong.

12:24 AM

Stefan felt a movement on his hand and he looked directly at Elena. Jeremy had fallen asleep in the other chair. He stood to his feet pushing out the chair and getting closer to her he began to call her name.

Stefan: Elena! Elena! (as he caressed her head) Open your eyes sweetie! I know your hurt but I'm here for you and I'm not going anywhere.

Elena moved her head a little to one side and Stefan thoughr she was waking up. He sat on the bed and kept caressing her urging for her to awaken. Elena began to open one of her eyes and just as she did she saw his face. The face of the man she so longed to see for five months, and it brought an immediate smile to her face as she began to speak.

Elena: Stefan!

Stefan moved forward and hugged her tightly saying "yes I'm here and I'm not going anywhere." They hugged for a moment until Elena remembered her baby and pulled away saying "the baby Stefan where's the baby?"

Stefan: (calming her) shhh shhhh! He's fine! He's upstairs in the NICU.

Elena: (sitting up in the bed but it was very painful) NICU? Stefan what's wrong with him? what happened?

Stefan: ( seeing the pain in her eyes, began to lay her back down as he explained) Elena he's fine. he was just a little premature and they just keeping him there to get more extra perfect. but Elena he's beautiful

Elena: (began to calm down and lay back) Is he? I have to see him, I want to hold him! Stefan have you held him? What does he feel like, how does he smell? I can' t wait to meet him.

Stefan: He's perfect he has my eyes but your nose and his little hands they look like Jeremy's but his feet I'm not too sure whose feet they are. (running his fingers through her hair) I haven't held him yet (holding his head low) I didn't feel right holding him yet without you permission because I havent been here.

Elena: (touches his face) Stefan your his father and nothing can change that. The whole time ai was pregnant with him all I ever wanted was for you be here. (Stefan's head is still hanging low) And you are! So whatever issues you and I have they wait because we have a son to be thankful for.

Stefan looked at Elena with tears in his eyes and nodded. Just as they were having their moment at the door they heard clapping and turned to see Damon. He walked in clapping

Damon: Well look at this happy little family! I guess this is exactly what you wanted.

Elena: Damon don't be that way Stefan is here for us that's all that matters.

Damon: Both of you are unbelievable! You for carrying the little life sucking baby and you who was willing to let her die.

Stefan: (with vampire speed attacks Damon) That's enough Damon!

Just then Jeremy had awaken to Stefan holding Damon in the air and he jumped to his feet to try to break them up:

Jeremy: can't you two give it a rest. All the stress could upset Elena.

Elena: Jeremy! (reaching her hand out for her brother)

Jeremy dashed to her bedside as he was astonished to see her awake:

Jeremy: Hey! you gave me quite a scare!

Elena: But you did good! You took care of your nephew just like I thought you would.

Jeremy: Your awake now (wiping a tear from his face) so now he has his mom.

Elena: (wipes Jeremy's face) Now he will have his family! (looking to Stefan and Damon) that means everyone!

Damon and Stefan let go of each other and stood side by side with distance in between.

As the doctors came in to check Elena and make sure she was okay the only person who was allowed to stay in the room was Jeremy. Stefan and Damon waited outside as they stared each other down.

Stefan: This isn't over Damon. As soon as Elena is well enough to be released and my soon is cleared I'm taking them home and I want you gone.

Damon: oh dear brother your exactly right this isn't over. If you think I'm gonna leave Stefan the ripper with Elena and the little life sucker then you got another thing coming. because in case you havent realized your still a blood crazed monster. Yeah you might have it together for now because "the ripper" hasn't kicked in but the moment you go on a rager the girl you so call love so much that had your little bastard child that oh yeah almost killed her by the way. All of the that will go out the window and your gonna start looking them as dinner and dessert! So baby bro, I'm not going anywhere!

Stefan: I'm not gonna hurt my family!

Damon: Just like you didn't hurt dad! Look how well that turned out.

Stefan looked worried that what his brother was saying was true. It had been two days and because he was filled up with blood he was doing fine but he knew the moment he got low he would want to feed. He had to make some smart decisions he didn't wanna be away from Elena and his son but he was gonna need to be in his controlling self if he was gonna be any good good to eithrr of them. As the doctors exited the room he heard his name being called by the sweetest girl in the world and he walked back into the room.

Elena: (sitting up in the bed, held out her hand for Stefan to come and join her. As Jeremy stood beside her bed with his arms crossed) come! You too Damon!

Damon stepped in the room and stood at end of the bed as Stefan sat on the bed and held her hand.

Elena: So the doctor says I'm recovering well. I'm not quite ready to go home he thinks it will be a while before I'm able to do so because I have to get my strength back and Im not exactly in any shape to walk.

Damon: (smiling) You can't walk yet, it's alot of swelling and too painful.

Elena: wait how do you...

Stefan: (smiled and touched his ear) did you forget.

Elena: (laughed) yeah I did. but either way Jeremy told me how worried you were and what you did to try to save me. I want you to know your both in the right! Damon thankyou in Stefan's absence you of all knew how much the baby meant to me so if turning me would have let me be in his life would have accepted that. Stefan thankyou you and I have spent so much time talking about that what ifs and so on that you knew howI didn't wanna go through that same hurt and struggle you do. And you need not to be angry with Jeremy Stefan. For so long I didn't know if you were coming back or if you were still alive. I had to plan him a life away from the hurt and pain. Alife where he wouldnt be hunted. I only want what was best for him and Jeremy was only honoring my wishes.

Stefan: (moved into to hug her) It's okay! I'm gonna protect my family and I will forever to do what is best for my family.
