At the hospital Stefan stepped through the door to see Elena standing at the window. She turned around and saw him flashing him a smile, she walked over to him and gave him a hug
Elena: hey
Stefan: hey your walking faster and better.
Elena: Yep! and I feel great. I have great news.
Stefan: whats that
Elena: The doctors say ai can go home tomorrow.
Stefan: well that's great I know someone who will be happy to see you.
Elena: I can't wait to be with him all the time. (holding Stefan's hand) how did he go down tonight was it okay?
Stefan: (still holding her hand) Yea pretty easily, he and I have pretty much got it down ( sitting on the bed, and holding her hand)
Elena: Thats great hopefully I fit in there somewhere (pulling her hand away from him and turning away)
Stefan: (stands to his feet and turns her around) Hey hey your his mother and of course you do. You are his world, I tell him about you everyday, minute and second and I know he loves you.
Elena smiles and walks back to her bed. Stefan come and sits next to her and rubs her arm.
Stefan: well since your getting out; there wont be a need for me to stay there anymore so I will move back to the boarding house.
Elena: Is that what you really want.
Stefan: Well I just want you two to be happy and safe.
Elena: Stefan! We should talk about how we're going to care for Zach.
Stefan: Yea I've been thinking!
Elena: Me too! and I know that he is your son and the last thing I wanna do is take him away from you but, how do you and I get back to where once were "in love"
Stefan: Elena I know you've been hurt and feel like I wasn't there for you but I never stopped loving you.~~ I love you that's the only reason all this is possible.
Elena: I love you too but I wanna be sure this is what you want a family. because thats what we would be a family. You, me and our son.
Stefan: (leans close and kisses her) thats exactly what I want. (they make out passionately)
A knock at door and they are interrupted by the doctor who comes in.
Doctor: Excuse me!
Elena: There isnt anyway you could come back.
Doctor: oh this wont take too long
Stefan sits up and gets in the chair for the doctor to examine Elena. He listens to her breathing and pushes on her stomach checking her incision.
Doctor: Well you seem to be healing very rapidly even from your c-section.
Stefan: thats a good thing right.
Doctor: of course it is. Good news is your being released tomorrow bad news is. It's important not to engage in sexual intercourse for atleast four more weeks. I know your probably anxious as emotions run high in new mothers but its the standard time limit for all new mothers and just because your healing quickly doesn't mean your the exception.
He writes on her chart and begins to exit the walks back to the bed and picks up her hand.
Stefan: Well the best news is your coming home
Elena: Yeah good news
Stefan: (kisses her hand) don't worry we'll have plenty of time for that. Even with a screaming newborn (smiling)
Elena: I'm too excited to sleep. I can' t wait to see him and hold him and just sit around and be a family.
Stefan: Maybe you should move into the boarding house (looking in her eyes) I mean we have lots of bedrooms and I can protect you and and...
Elena: (touching his face) I wanna wake up to your face everyday.
Stefan: (smiled) I love you. we have like seven bedrooms and your is great it's just he should have is own room and I love having you there with me.
Elena: Yes!
Stefan: I wanted to ask you that for weeks but I wasn't sure youwould say yes.
Elena: When you were missing I stayed everyday at the boarding house except when Damon when out of town because I didn't wanna miss you when you came back.
Stefan: Why did you leave?
Elena: (took a deep breath) I was 6 months and I let fear creep in of you never coming back and I knew I had to make choices of what was best for him
Stefan: and adoption was what you came up with
Elena: No not what I came up with but what I accepted. I knew that once he was born if you weren't here that raising him alone would have been impossible. It would have been too hard to look in his green eyes and not see you. He deserved better. he deserved a family. so I chose one for him.
Stefan: I can understand that but promise me something!
Elena: anything!
Stefan: No matter what happens to me ever! You will always do whats best for him.
Elena: I promise! but nothing will ever happen to you
Stefan: Elena!
Elena: Promise me you will always do whats best for him!
Stefan: Always! I promise
Elena: No matter what happens to me!
Stefan: You can't do that!
Elena: It's our baby boy! We're responsible for keeping him safe. He has us.
Stefan: I won't let anything happen to my family. I will forever protect you. (he hugs her tight and kisses her shoulder)
Stefan stayed with Elena at the hospital and he slept in her bed holding her tightas they talked the night away about how they would begin their new lives as a family. As the morning approached Stefan woke up alone he looked around the room and saw Elena fully dressed looking out the window. He got up and walked to her wrapping his arms around her and she melted in his arms.
Elena: hmmmm! morning.
Stefan: are you ready to go home.
Elena: I can't wait. My family will be one finally.
Back in New York
Coral was in her apartment talking to another woman.
Coral: The child has arrived
Woman: Now is the time for us witches to gather strength and rise from under these vampires
Coral: Yes this has been the witches plan of action but the mother has survived.
Woman: No need to worry, once we set Klaus in that direction she will not become a factor.
Coral: The father is linked to the child so he shall be safe until we need him.
Woman: that is good because abolishing all vampires will take all the great witches and we have to find the right spell.
Coral:Was this baby put here for just this reason?
Woman: (gets up with a glass of wine) We elders put the curse about so that in case the original vampires out lived their purpose we could have a kill switch so now is the time because we may never get another chance of a doppelgänger and a pure vampire. (looking out the window) Kathrine was in hiding for so long and manipulating every witch in our council did not help. So finding Elena was the blessing we prayed for! Stefan has the purest heart of human or vampire and Emily was right about him from the day he turned.
Coral: We might have a problem though?
Woman: (turning toward her) Coral!
Coral: My great grand-niece is best friends with the Doppelganger.
Woman: How is this possible this was not in the cards.
Coral: I was not watching her. I was staying away from all Bennett family to keep them safe and after her grandmother died I didn't know she was hooked into the vampire world.
Woman: Are we going to be able to persuade her or do we have to push through her?
Coral: Right now I am unsure and I have to assess her loyalty to the other kind.
Back in Mystic Falls
Stefan and Elena were riding in the car and they arrived at the boarding house, she had called Jeremy and let him know her plans last night. As they stopped in the driveway Stefan turned to Elena.
Stefan: Home sweet home.
Elena: (rubbing Stefan face) I like the way that sounds.
They get out of the car and wall to the front door. As they enter they are greeted by all their friends with a big "Welcome home". Elena was really surprised and smiled greatly. She thanked them all but looked around trying to find her son until Jeremy came out of the other room holding Zach in his arms wear some blue jeans and a blue and onesie with blue socks as he sucked on his pacifier. She turned to him and said " but that is the greatest thanks" and she walked over and rubbed her hand through his golden brown hair. Jeremy looked at her and said "welcome home Elena, would you like to hold your son." She laughed and nodded saying "yes, come here Zachery Jeremy Salvatore" as she lifted him in her arms and kissed his cheek. Stefan looked on very happy as his hand began to shake a bit and he quickly moved it behind his back and took a deep breath. He moves closer to his family and stood next to them. As everyone stood around and watched Caroline with so much happiness screamed out "oh my god I can't wait, we have another surprise for you." She walked to the staircase and motioned for everyone to follow getting upstairs they walked to the first bedroom down from Stefans and she got to a closed door.
Caroline: Well everybody close your eyes
Damon: oh come on vampire barbie like we don't know whats behind the door.
Bonnie: (nudges Damon) It's a surprise.
As Stefan and Elena closed their eyes the door opened and there inside the room was a baby nursery. It was baby blue with airplanes on the wall and hanging from the ceiling; the white letters in cloud smoke spelled out Zach. There was a white crib with an airplane Mobil and filled with stuffed animals inside, a comfy arm chair with ottom. A book case with lots of books and a airplane rug on the floor. A swing in the corner lots of baby toys positioned around the room, in the closet was lots of diapers piled high and clothes hanging up on little hangers in the closet. On the white dresser was pair of white baby booties with a picture of Elena and Stefan where he had his arms wrapped her and was whispering in ear. Elena entered the room and gasped as Stefan followed looking around.
Elena: When did you?
Caroline: Ever since you woke up we've been working on it. All of us.
Stefan: Thank you All
Caroline: Your house is great but we all knew this is where he belonged
Jeremy: As much as I'm gonna miss the little guy. This is his home.
Damon: Yeah not times out of ten he was probably conceived somewhere in this house. Hopefully nowhere near my room.
Elena: (lifting up her son on her shoulder and smiles at Damon) Wouldn't you like to know.
Damon: Stefan? you wouldn't that violates the whole brother code!
Stefan: (walks over to Elena and rubs his sons back) Oh and falling in love with my girlfriend, who happens to be the mother of my child which by the way you never told me about doesn't.
Everyone stood around looking awkward until Bonnie spoke up "well we're gonna go and let this family get settled" she walked over to Elena and gave her a big hug and pulled back rubbing Zachs cheek saying "bye cute boy" touching Stefans shoulder and then she exited the room. Caroline came up next and walked up to Elena and said "let me hold that beautiful baby boy before I go." She held him up in the air "alright baby boy you be good and good to your mommy; your daddy give him hell! He can take it. Oh and that mean old Uncle Damon just ignore him, he's just jealous your so darn cute." She kissed his forehead returning him to his mother and turned giving Stefan a big hug as she was hugging him she stuck her tongue out at Damon and then left the room. Jeremy came next and he looked at Stefan nodded as if they had already talked and it was just understood. He walked toward Elena and touched his nephews hand "alright little guy I'm only a phone call away okay! So call me sometime; remeber what I said about sleeping we will always be here when you wake up. I love you." He looked up in his sisters eyes and gave her a side hug "same goes for you, I'm a phone call away so if you need me I'm here. I love you" he kissed her head and the exited the room. Till all that was left was Damon, he stood there and replied "yea try to keep baby boogers quiet" and he left the room. Stefan turned toward Elena and smiled as she walked to the arm chair and sat down.
Stefan: hey you tired. I can take him.
Elena: No I just wanna be like this forever
Stefan: (he walks over and squats down and looks at him) yeah me too. (he strokes his hand through his son's hair and kisses his head) he'll be getting hungry soon, so I'll go make up some bottles. (he stands up and kisses Elena before he exits)
Elena: (looking down at her son) Your daddy is pretty amazing you know! I promise you I'm gonna try to be just as amazing as him (the baby smiles a bit) Mommy's home.
