Under a shady old oak tree, sits a lonely little boy. There, he reads a book about a famous fairy tale called, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". With a bored expression, he stares out onto the sky and starts to drift off into thought. 'Is Wonderland real or is it only a dream?' He asked himself. No one really knows the answer nor does he. Does such a place really exist? Well, who knows... Wonderland is such a mystery, am I right? Just by hearing the word, could make you have a lot of questions and wonders crowding your mind.
Now, enough of my chit-chat... It's time for us to read this little boy's own fairy tale dream. He is, after all, Little Young Alice.
Here I am, lying under a shady old oak tree. I can do nothing but read an old book. It's always the same story and it's always the same ending. Same old, same old. The girl, named Alice, falls into deep sleep and ends up in world called Wonderland then after a few couple adventures through said place, she wakes up knowing that it is only a dream. How disappointing... I closed the book as I read it for the 18th time of the week. It makes me sad, knowing that this is the only book that got me interested and knowing that I read almost every book in the mansion.
I stared at the sky with a bored expression on my face. I glanced at the clouds as it floated freely. I wish I could be free like them but no, they say I can't. They say I'm not in the right age. They always underestimated me but then... Not my big brother. He was the only one who made me feel at... peace. And, he's the one who introduced "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" to me. He would always read it to me whenever he has free time but right now... He's busy with other work. I still remembered that he used to compare me to "Alice" and he would compare himself to Alice's big sister. Their story and our story was somehow similar. I would be with my brother in the back of the garden under a tree and I would watch my brother doing random things in the garden or listen to the stories he tells like Alice and her big sister.
Strange, right?
I still wondered, "Why won't they let me go on my own? I mean, I'm already 16. Isn't that enough?". I sighed.
I stared at the sky once again and a thought came to me, "Is Wonderland real?". I blinked to my surprise. Where did that thought came from? I must be getting one of those hallucinations. I mean, Wonderland can't be possibly be real. Alice, the girl in the story, dreamed that such a place was never meant to be real. It was only a dream. It never existed from the start. It was never... real.
"Who knows? Maybe Alice had been there already and simply woken up by plain unconsciousness." Again, another thought of persuasion that Wonderland is real. I protested and said to myself, "There was no trace, not even a single proof that the place was real. She only dreamed it. That's it."
"If the place isn't real then why does it have a story?" I protested the thought again and said, "Even though it has a story it doesn't mean that it's real... It's just a part of imagination. It's fiction."
"Why not try finding it out then? Why not become like Alice and search for that place?" I sighed at another questioning thought and answered, "It's not real."
. . .
And there, the crowding thoughts in my head, ended. I sighed in relief to know that it stopped. I plopped down onto the grass and stared at the branches to realize the sun is peeking through its leaves. It was peaceful and the breeze was just right. I like this feeling. This harmonic feeling makes me feel like... falling asleep.
A few hours later. . .
I opened my eyes to notice that I had fallen asleep. I rubbed them and sat up, looked around if anybody saw me sleeping but there was no one. I looked up at the sky and to my surprise, it was afternoon already. I guess fell asleep for a long time. I should just go back to the mansion and- SWOOSH!
"Huh?" I spoke out suddenly. "What was that?"
I looked behind but there was nothing there. I even looked behind the tree and saw no trace of anything. Maybe it was just the wind...but then, it was swift so it can't be the wind. Well, who knows?
I knelt down to grab the lying old book on the grassy ground and- SWOOSH!
There it was again. What was that anyway? For sure, it's not the wind so what is it? Could it be a bird? No. A bird isn't that fast and I would know if I had seen one. A fly? Impossible, a fly is too small. It can't be that fast to make me feel such a strong wind so... what is it exactly?
SWOOSH!
It occur... again. "Hey!" I shouted as I turned around. "Show yourself and-" I stopped to see a well dressed and decent rabbit came running further into the garden with a pocket watch in his hand. "Hey!" I shouted again. "Come back here!"
I ran through the garden and chased the swiftly dashing rabbit. "Oh no! I'm late! I'm late!" It shouted. My eyes widened to hear the rabbit speak. Was this true or was this a dream? Wait...
"Is Wonderland real or is it only a dream?" And that thought came to me. The rabbit was talking and it was similar to the rabbit that led Alice to Wonderland; Alice's dream world.
"It's not real." I said to myself but as I heard the rabbit shout again about being late. Curiosity conquered me and tempted me to follow it. I could stop the temptation but then I ended up chasing the white furry animal when the same thought came to me. "Why not try finding it out then? Why not become like Alice and search for that place?"
I saw the furry animal jump into a large and-not-so-small rabbit hole. I stared into it for a long time trying to search for the rabbit and that's where my journey starts. My hand slipped and I fell into the whole. The strange thing is, I didn't fell with a large thud but instead, I fell farther and deeper into the hole until I see a lot of things floating, or falling, all around me. I even saw a large piano and and an old grandfather clock. It's Ding-Dong was loud as its large hand struck at twelve. Books that I haven't even seen nor have read before were falling with me also. Have I really entered Alice's dreamland or is this my own dream?
I closed my eyes as I feel gravity pull me down. I know this is a dream, I just know it. If I wake up, everything will be gone, right? I'm lying down onto the grassy ground. I'm simply sleeping under the shade. I'm just... dreaming.
The falling stop. The pull of gravity had ended, also. Is it alright now? Am I about to wake up from this fantasy?
I opened my eyes and to my surprise... I was sitting on a smooth floor. And I can't believe on what I am wearing also. I'm wearing a skirt! No... Not only a skirt but a... DRESS!?
You're kidding right? You've got to be kidding. This is my dream and on what I know, once you own a dream, you can't control it but why can't I!? This is my dream! I can control it! But why!? Why!?
I've gotta wake up. I've gotta wake up. I've gotta- "Eiii!"
Huh? What was that?
I looked around and I was startled to see a young boy who has caramel eyes, and chocolate brown hair which is a little bit messy, staring at me. I blinked and then he blinked. "Why is an outsider doing here, in Wonderland!?" He asked in a loud and scared tone.
"Would you pipe down, herbivore. I don't even know myself. I just followed you and I ended up here." I answered.
"Eh? Really? Why were you following me?" He asked again.
"I got curious. There's nothing wrong about getting curious." I answered again.
"Well, you do have a point." He said, finally calming down.
"Oh yeah, why are you screaming 'I'm late! I'm late!' anyway?" I asked him, trying to imitate his tone which turned out into a fail.
"Oh, about that..." He paused and glanced onto his watch. "Ah! I'm late! Sorry, I have no time to explain things! I'm in a hurry right now! Byee!" He spoke out loud and dashed off through a door behind a curtain. I tried to follow him but as I pulled the curtains, the door shrunk. "You've got to be... kidding me." I muttered.
I remembered that in the story, Alice saw a table that had a bottle that said, "Drink Me". When she drank it, she shrunk to the same size as the door but the problem is, she forgot the key to the door. And then, she saw a piece of cake that said, "Eat Me". When she ate it, she grew big than her original size.
I looked around to see if there was a table and fortunately, I did. I saw the same things, the key and the vial. I took the key and slid it to my "dress" pocket. Then, I took the vial, took off the cap and drank it. I shrunk to the same size as Alice, I checked my pocket to make sure I didn't forget the key and I sighed in relief to know the key was there. I ran to the door and opened it. And that's where I saw how beautiful Wonderland is.
It was true. Wonderland is such a wonderful place! I could feel my adrenaline wanting to explore the land but... I can't stay here for long. I need to find my way out and be with my big brother again. I mean, this is just a dream, right?
It's only a dream.
I need to wake up soon, and fast.
What will our Little Young Alice do now?
What are the that dangers that await him?
What are the tasks that he must face on his own?
What will he find as he venture all through out Wonderland?
Will he find Wonderland as reality or a plain old dream of fantasies?
Wonderland is really a place of mystery, excitement, fantasy and most of all... wonders.
