Chapter 4 –Remus' Early Retirement-

He knew it wouldn't last. He knew it and did, in fact, anticipate when it was to end but still, it was a waste to not finish the last remaining weeks the school year had left. He supposed that it couldn't be helped though, he did what he can and he did expect it. It wasn't as if he was surprised, he just knew it was a matter of time that someone would have guessed if they just thought about the days of the months that he was absent, it wasn't that hard, really. He was just lucky that he got until the last remaining weeks of school and he should be proud that someone other than Hermione –the resident genius- had figured it out; it meant that Hermione wasn't the only smart one in the whole school—he stopped his thoughts. 'That was close.' He thought. Had he continued, his thoughts would have developed into darker, negative thoughts and wouldn't want to think that of his now ex-students. He shook his head and continued on in his packing.

"You are leaving then," A voice behind him halted him from continuing. He turned his head and saw his –admittedly- favorite student and smiled amusingly.

"Yes, I am" he confirmed, waving his wand to his other cases, watching as they fixed and closed itself up, then asked, "and just where did you hear it from?"

"I saw your letter from Professor Dumbledore's desk." Harry answered.

"I see," Remus simply said. "Well, don't worry Harry; we'll still see each other. I doubt you'll forget me so easily." Remus teased with a grin but Harry didn't find it amusing as Remus as shown with his furrowed brows.

"Why so early? Why not wait until the end of school year?" Harry asked sadly, obviously not happy about Remus' early retirement. Remus just sighed and gave a small smile to the son of his late best friend, crossing his arms and leaning against the desk behind him.

"I wouldn't want to bother the Headmaster to ask the board of directors to give me until the end of the school year. It's easier this way and it takes much less effort." He explained to his unhappy –ex-student. "Not to mention, it'll keep Dumbledore from getting sacked along with me." He said first, interrupting Harry from what he was about to say. Harry didn't protest again after that.

After a long quiet pause between the two of them, Harry spoke first, "Where will you go then?" he asked in a dejected tone, understanding that there was no other way. Remus smiled at the younger one's comprehension and answered with a smile, "I'm not really sure but I always did love to travel, maybe I'll go back to Paris, or finish Greece, I do miss Italy though, so maybe there first," he blinked when he noticed the starting of a ramble. He smiled back to Harry, who he noticed was getting less and less, satisfied on the thought of him moving to a different country.

"It's still a part of Europe you know?" Remus said, interrupting Harry's train of thought. "I didn't say that I was going out of the continent, just the country, and it's still near enough for Hedwig to locate me in, Owls are notoriously smart after all," he said.

"I guess so," Harry replied, still a little unsure, he then felt a hand ruffling his head and looked up to Remus.

"Don't worry kid, I'll be also looking for Sirius while I'm at it, I'm almost positively sure that he went semi-traveling before thinking of hiding," Remus continue to say, "Merlin only knows what he'll do with his pent-up energy. I would like it that he has some back-up with him, lest he gets caught by the muggle police like last time." He laughed out, succeeding in getting Harry to laugh with him.

"Oh and before I forget," Remus, turned and waved his wand over to the desk to his left. Harry followed the direction and now noticed the revered Marauder's Map on the table, watching as it folded itself up and shot up to Remus' hand before it was handed to him. He blinked slightly in disbelief at that, not expecting to be given the Marauder's Map and turned to Remus for an explanation.

"The Marauder's Map is yours," Remus said half-seriously, "I expect it to be used as often as you need it," he winked at Harry, "May your future venture be as successful as your predecessors'." He finished, watching as Harry grasped the Map and let out a huge grin, as if already knowing a huge scheme to use it on. Remus let out a chuckle at that, already proud of their future generation.

"Well then, you go on to class, I still have a train to catch at Hogs mead." At that mention, Harry suddenly frowned but then smiled acceptingly. "Okay then, make sure to write whenever you can and to tell Sirius to contact me whenever he can, alright?" he said. Remus nodded and ruffled his hair one last time, before giving a kiss on the raven's forehead.

"I promise brat," he said with affection. They hugged tightly for the last time, before Harry had to go to class.

Remus watched as the brat left and looked around his room for the last time; suddenly he wasn't as depressed anymore in leaving as he was excited about the prospect of leaving. Talking to Harry really did lighten up his mood and now, he couldn't wait to go. He then remembered his Graduation and how excited they were about leaving Hogwarts, he couldn't believe he had forgotten about it, 'but I suppose, it has been a long time' he sighed out. Now that he remembered though, he knew that he will leave this place with the same feelings.

He then hurriedly shrunk his cases and left the classroom not wanting to be left by the train but most importantly wanting to leave with this excited feeling he had now as he had then on his Graduation day.

As he sat there watching the view blur from the fast movement of the Hogwarts' train, he thought back on Harry's and his conversation from the day he came back after 'that night'. He mused on some his words he had told Harry that day about his father and decided to also follow James' philosophy to 'look at the bright side of things'.

It was then that he realized that he could use his now free time to search for his savior while on his travels. 'I doubt that it will be easy but he did give me an impression of being anything but easy' he thought amusedly, thinking back on their few short hours of conversation 'try and try until you succeed right? Or at least until he decides to show himself to me' which he doubt will be soon but he could hope right? 'Right' he nodded to himself assuredly.

As Remus was caught up in his thoughts, he never noticed the large black figure trek back to the direction of the Forbidden Forest just as the train reached the bridge.
