Jacob awoke to the sound of Renesmee screaming. The screams of her and her friends filled the air in the street around the Wright's Apartment, piercing the air like arrows that burst through his brain. The panic raced through his veins and he felt the change taking over his body, slowly transforming himself from a man into a primal being.
A giggle descended from the apartment window that he had slept beneath. Relief flowed through him and he returned back to his former humanity.
He cursed himself for dozing off while guarding Nessie, if Edward found out he would be dead and Edward would know, of course he would. The screams were just screeches of excitement but he might not be so lucky next time.
The girls screeched again and Jacob jumped at the sound. He knew that they were fine but the love he felt for Nessie wouldn't let his mind rest without knowing for sure.
He would only take a quick look and that would be all that he would need in order to set his mind to rest.
The jump was easy, as it always was and practice had made him almost silent.
Through the window, he saw a figure standing with the girls. A guitar balanced in his hands as he played for them, a smile of satisfaction on his lips. Jacob knew his face, everyone did, Klavier Gavin was forever in the papers. If it wasn't for his music and the recently disbanded Gavinners it was for his performances of a different kind in the court of law.
Jacob should have expected it really, the relationship between Phoenix Wright and Klavier was as well known as they were individually. Klavier just seemed to piss him off for some reason - that smile, that look and just his general demeanor sat firmly on his bad side. Well, maybe he did know the reason, and as he watched the way that Nessie looked at the guy it was driven home, hard. No matter how much he loved her, he could never stop her from loving someone else. The worst thing about loving her was that, if she chose someone else, it would kill him to be near her but it would be a fate worse than death to leave her for any time at all.
He jumped back down to the ground to avoid being seen and sank down into a crouch. Music now floated through the streets instead of voices.
He may hate the guy, but Jacob had to admit that he had talent.
Nessie danced freely with the other girls, her arms waving above her head and her body loose and swaying. The music flowed over and around her and she could almost feel it. Without a doubt, this night was amazing. For the first time she could just be. She could be a normal girl (although most girls didn't tend to have Klavier Gavin play personally at their slumber parties), she could sing, she could dance, she could spend a minute of her life not thinking about how, in a few years, she would have to leave it all behind and begin again. At least she would have Jacob and her family, but looking around at her new found friends, she wasnt sure if that was enough.
