Chapter Seven:

Umbrella of Artemis

Vesalius:

Athrun and Rau prepared to leave the Gamow to take the Vesalius back to ZAFT. Rau said, "Ades continue your pursuit of the legged ship and her mobile suits." Ades nodded.

Archangel:

Roxanne sat at her post and said, "Captain, Artemis is responding. They agree to allow us entry into the base." Murrue nodded and said, "Thank you crewman Smythe." She sat back in her chair and breathed a sigh of relief. Just then Black burst in. "I don't like this. God I am an idiot. Admiral Garcia is a bigot and a greedy old man. He won't just let us resupply and leave." Murrue cut him off and said, "We have no choice Ryan. You might want to get back into disguise as James and leave the talking to me." Ryan nodded and said, "Right. The world is not, ready for my return yet." He turned and left. Roxanne said, "Why does he need to disguise himself again? He looks better with his brown hair and hazel eyes." Murrue laughed and said, "Garcia is a member of the Eurasian federation and will arrest him no matter what. Then he will kill him for being a traitor." Roxanne nodded.

Inside Artemis:

The Archangel finished docking. Admiral Garcia and several guards boarded. They walked onto the bridge and Garcia said, "Welcome to Artemis. Now that we know you are indeed Earth Alliance we can talk in my office. Just the Captain, Xo, and Mu La Flaga may join me." James jumped up and said, "My job is to ensure the safety of the Captain and the XO." Garcia glared at him and said, "No Mercenary your job is to do what I tell you. Now sit down and shut up." James grit his teeth and went to take a step towards him, but Roxy shook her head no. He nodded and sat down. "Good, now come on you three." Murrue, Mu and Natarle rose and left the bridge. "James you're in charge take care of the ship while I am gone," Murrue said. James nodded. He stood and just as he went to sit he felt the barrel of a gun in his back. "No you are all to go to the mess hall and sit." James grabbed the barrel and said, "Take your gun out of my back or it will be the last thing you ever do." The guard pushed him and said, "Move." James did as he was told. The entire crew and the refugees were led to the mess hall. Black sat down with Kira and his friends. "Are you all okay," he whispered. Kira nodded.

Garcia's Office:

"Now we will resupply your ship on one condition. You let my team of experts study the ship and the mobile suits," Garcia sneered as he said it. Murrue glared at him and said, "You can't do…" He laughed and said, "What I can't do that because we are allies? I can and I am, because you have no recognition code. Now sit there and shut up." Mu clenched his fists. "You bastard," he said.

Gamow:

Nicol went to the captain's office and detailed a plan to him. He nodded and said, "Are you sure you can handle this?" Nicol nodded and said, "I know I can do this." He walked out and went into the hangar to prepare.

Yzak said, "Why is he going? Why don't we just charge in there?" Eric said, "Because the Blitz is designed for blitzkrieg attacks and they will just raise their defenses while we are in range."

A few minutes later:

"Can I have the pilots of the Strike, The Shadow, and The Orange GINN," Garcia demanded. Nobody moved and Garcia looked over the crowd and said, "The Captain of the ship is a woman so why couldn't it be a girl." He gripped Flays arm. She protested. "Hey let me go, I am not the pilot." Garcia growled and said, "Shut up." Kira went to rise and James grabbed him. He whispered, "Don't be stupid Kira." Garcia looked at James and said, "Give me the three pilots please." James scoffed and said, "You can't touch the Shadow or the GINN they are property of serpent's tail." Garcia growled and threw Flay to a guard. "Hold her." He punched Black in the stomach. "Oof," James doubled over and then rose back up and said, "You're not going to get us to turn on one another." Garcia went to throw another punch and James grabbed his hand swiftly landed a combo of rights and lefts. Then went to kick him, but Garcia said, "Do it and I will kill her." Roxanne jumped up and said, "You can't she is a civilian." Garcia grabbed her and said, "Shut it, wench. You must be the Strike's pilot take her too." Kira jumped up and said, "I am the pilot of the Strike." James said, "Kira no…" Garcia smiled and said, "There was that so hard now? Bring him, the mercenary and the young man that just stood up." Miguel, James, and Kira followed them out of the room.

Garcia led the others into the hangar. "Unlock your machines or I will kill the girls." James said, "You really are a bigot and a fool aren't you. My father was right you're just an ass. That is why they gave you this post in an unimportant base. ZAFT is probably coming to attack this place as we speak." Garcia laughed and said, "We will be fine. The light wave barrier will keep them out. We are untouchable…" Just then explosions rocked the entire base. Garcia shouted, "What was th…" Just then Garcia grabbed Roxanne and rushed out of the hangar. "Come back here. You three get out of here. Kira take Flay with you. Miguel I will meet up with you later." Ryan ran out of the hangar after Garcia. He ran down the hall looking for Garcia.

In the Hangar:

Miguel knocked out two guards and climbed in his GINN and fired it up. Kira knocked out the other two guards and took Flays hand and led her to the Strike. They climbed in and he fired it up. The two machines launched in unison and burst out of the hangar. Kira said, "Flay sit in my lap and try not to move." She nodded scared of everything going on. "Miguel I will take the Blitz you get the others." Miguel nodded and said, "Right, just because I am an ace doesn't mean I can take on three of the most advanced mobile suits Kira. I will hold them off though."

With Ryan:

Ryan was running through the halls after Garcia. "Where are you, you coward?" Just then Roxanne screamed and there was a loud smack heard as she was back handed. Ryan kicked the door in and charged at him. He punched him in the side of his neck. Garcia was knocked away from Roxy and James stood protectively in front of her. "Really Garcia, you're that much of a pig and a coward?" James rushed forward and delivered a swift knee to the side of Garcia's head and let him drop to the ground out cold. "Let's go Roxanne." He took her hand and ran towards the Shadow. She stopped him before they climbed and hugged him. "Thank you Ryan." He nodded and said, "Of course Roxy." She smiled and they climbed up into the cockpit. "Ryan what did you mean by it was no accident my name wound up on the crew list," she asked? He smiled and said, "I will tell you when we get back on the Archangel." He launched the Shadow and joined the battle outside.

The outside battle:

Kira was keeping Nicol off balance and pressing the attack. A stray shot from the Buster almost hit the Strike and Kira dodged. Flay screamed and said, "Kira be careful." Kira said, "Sorry I am doing the best I can to keep this guy busy, but I can't account for stray shots from other opponents. Please keep quiet so I can concentrate. I'll be more careful and I will protect you Flay." Miguel thought, 'His skills are improving greatly.' Miguel was struggling with the other three machines. Suddenly the Shadow appeared and forced the Black Hawk and the Duel away from the GINN. Ryan took advantage of his surprise appearance and quickly disabled the Duel and kicked it away. He turned to the Black Hawk. The Black Hawk's pilot was surprised to be getting a comm. "Who the hell is this," he asked in frustration. "My Name is Ryan Black." Just then Ryan's face appeared on the screen along with Roxanne's. Eric grit his teeth. "It's nice to meet you pilot of the Shadow, but is now the time?" Ryan laughed and said, "Yeah now is the perfect time. It has been a while since we last fought. I doubt you remember though." Eric said, "I am Eric Torrico and I remember you fighting me to a stalemate in that damn plane, before that friendly fire incident took you down, but you're alive I see. I shall have fun fighting you again." Ryan nodded and saluted his foe before ending the comm. Eric grit his teeth and saluted him back. Both machines took a dueling stance. They both started charging when signal flares from both the Gamow and the Archangel appeared and they stopped. "Damn," Ryan said, "oh well there is always next time." He took off to the Archangel falling into formation with the GINN and Strike.

Archangel Hangar:

Ryan used the zip line with Roxanne and turned to the other two. "Miguel, I am going to have to get you a new machine, but you did well out there. Kira you're improving, but you need to hit the simulators a little bit." Kira nodded, "Not tonight though it has been a long day," he replied and led Flay out of the hangar. Miguel said, "I appreciate it. I need one to keep up with these new machines." He walked out of the hangar and went to his quarters. Ryan started towards the exit when Roxanne pushed him to the wall in a hug and said, "Thanks for saving me back there. Now tell me why I am a crewmember of this ship?" Ryan hugged her and said, "You are welcome." He let her go and said, "I put you on the crew list. You don't remember me do you?" She looked at him and said, "I never met you before in my life." He said, "I didn't expect you to remember me. Maybe this will jog your memory. Be careful on the cliff next time, Rox." Suddenly Roxanne remembered.

Flashback: Roxanne was running around on a cliff near Onogoro playing. Her mother and father watching her run around. Roxanne kept running around. Her parents took their eyes off her for a moment. Then when they turned around she was gone. Suddenly a teen was running past them and he threw himself off the cliff and into the water. He swam to her and grabbed her. "Grab my neck please." The younger teen was scared and did what she was told. He started climbing up the cliff with her on his back. The teen's father pulled him up. "Thanks for saving her life." The teen nodded and said, "It was nothing." He unhooked a set of dog tags from his neck and gave them to the girl. "Here these will keep you safe from now on. I am Ryan," he said. "I am Roxanne," she said as she hesitantly took his dog tags and put them on. Ryan put his hand on her shoulder and said, "Be careful near the cliff next time, Rox." He turned and walked away.

End Flashback:

Her hand flew to her neck and touched the two extra dog tags on her chain and she blushed. "You were the one who saved my life three years ago? Why didn't you tell me and how did you know it was me?" Ryan nodded and said, "Yes I saved your life and you're the only woman I know with eyes as bright green as yours. I see you still have the dog tags too." He smiled and placed his hand on her shoulder. "I will always protect you whether I am here in person or just my dog tags." She smiled and walked away from him. Ryan stood there watching her leave. He thought, 'That wasn't what I expected.' Roxanne walked and whispered, "I have him right where I want him."

A/N: I know the battle was over quickly, but I figured as soon as Artemis fell and Yzak was taken out they would want to regroup in the confusion going on. Hope you like it. We now know how Ryan knew Roxanne and what happened. What did Roxanne mean by I have him right where I want him.
