*Two Weeks Later*

"Spencer I still refuse to believe that you and Alex are really over." Aria stated joining Hanna, Emily and Spencer at their usual table in the Rosewood Highschool courtyard.

"Yeah Spence, you and Alex were getting pretty close at that party at Noel's. What happened? Was he not good in bed, because if there's anything I've learned—" Spencer shot Hanna a death glare instantly shutting her up.

"Hanna! No that's not it. He isn't bad in bed. I mean—I wouldn't know, we never—" Spencer looked down from embarrassment trying to find any type of distraction.

"Whoa Whoa wait. I thought you really liked Alex, Spence? I thought you guys had—you know… done the deed." Emily smirked adding her thoughts to the conversation. "Ever since you guys split a few weeks ago, you haven't even said his name once. Where is he anyways?"

"You know what? He's probably learning the proper ways to treat a lady in some sort of boot camp reform program." Spencer noticed the confused looks on her friends faces and continued, "Or something close to it."

Aria reached for Spencer's hand in hopes of comforting her friend. "Spence look, you went through a break up, and we want to be here for you. We love you, and the feelings you are going through are normal. You can talk to us. Don't think you have to hold back your feelings just to seem strong."

"I know, you guys, and I love you too. I just really want to move on from Alex. Things with him just didn't work out and I've learned to accept that, but the next thing I want to do is just move on." A smile grew on Spencer's face that her friends hadn't seen since before she began dating Alex. "And I think I finally found a person I want to move on with."

A handful of coos were heard from Spencer's friends around the table.

"Spencer Hastings, what a fox. I honestly didn't know you had it in you."

"Hanna—" Spencer whispered bashfully.

"Spence, I'm so happy for you. What's his name?" Aria chimed in.

"What's his family like?" Emily questioned curiously.

"Is he good in bed or…. Oh my God! Spencer Hastings is that why you broke it off with Alex?"

"NO HANNA, NO! That's not why I broke it off with Alex. Look guys, I promise I will introduce you to him soon, but it's only been like a week and I want to see if maybe this could last." A familiar smile made reappearance on Spencer's face as she thought about Toby.

"It's been two weeks." Hanna mumbled, not expecting anyone to hear, but Spencer rolled her eyes while the other two girls giggled.

"I've got a Calculus test in 10. Bye guys." Emily said standing from her spot at the table.

"Yeah same. Hey Em! Wait up." Aria joined Emily as they walked back into the building.

"Ugh. I've gotta go too Spence, I promised Mona I'd meet her in the bathroom before second period." Hanna stood beginning to head to her destination, "Oh and Spence, good luck with your mystery man!."

Spencer smiled beginning to collect her bag and textbooks from the table she was sitting at. She put her books in her bag and stood to walk to her Biology class. She felt a small vibration from inside her bag and instantly smiled having guessed at who it was.

She pulled her cell phone out of her bag and read the message that waited for her.

Hey. Are you on break? I need to talk to you. I miss you. –T

Spencer began to type her response confidently.

Hi there. Yeah, I'm actually on my way to Biology though, so I can't talk right now. Come over after school? I miss you too. –S

Spencer was waiting for Toby's response when the five-minute bell rang, warning her to get to class. Her phone vibrated in her hand,

Deal. How's 4:30? -T

Perfect. Just like you. ;) –S

Spencer blushed to herself at how cheesy she sounded, but she couldn't help it, Toby had that effect on her.

Spencer pulled up in her driveway. It had been a total of four hours since she had last heard from Toby while she was at school. She lit up her phone by pressing the 'Home' button, checking the time and checking to see if there were any recent text messages from a certain person. There weren't. It was 4:10, and she wasn't expecting Toby for another twenty minutes, so she thought she would go inside and freshen up.

When Spencer went to unlock her door she had another surprise waiting for her.

"Hey!" Toby said standing from his current position on the concrete outside of the Hastings house.

"Hi! Hey! You're early. I wasn't expecting you to be early." Spencer exclaimed not meaning to sound so surprised. "I mean—"

"Yeah. I know. I'm sorry. I got home early today and was really anxious, but mostly excited to see you, so I thought I'd come early. I can go run some errands and come back when we planned if you want."

He was nervous to see me? I can't believe he was nervous to see me, I was nervous to see him. A guy was excited to see me? A smile crept on Spencer's face at her rather silly thoughts raced through her mind and then she let her smile fade. Alex never seemed excited to see me. Well unless he was planning on having sex with me… Spencer shook her thoughts and looked to Toby.

"No, No Toby. Stay. I didn't mean to send you running away. Please come inside." Spencer beckoned taking a few steps toward the door.

Toby reached for Spencer's arm and turned her gently to face him. He cupped her face, and guided her lips until they gently brushed up against his. Her lips were folded softly between his, yet very little pressure was placed between the two. The connection between them was enough to show the pure bliss and forming affection between the them.

"Spencer, there is nothing you or anyone else can do to send me running away from you. I'm not going any where if you're not coming with me." Spencer smiled at Toby's kind words and led them into the family room.

"My parents won't be home for another few hours if you want to talk and just hang out." Spencer put emphasis on the word 'just' and Toby instantly knew it was because of what happened with Alex.

"Well that's a topic that needs to be discussed." Spencer looked at Toby obviously confused, but soon caught on as he continued. "Your parents. I'm going to have to meet them eventually. The question is …When?"

"Yeah I know. My friends are also getting curious as to who this new 'mystery man' in my life is too."

"What are we going to do?"

"Well," Spencer began pulling out her phone to check her schedule for the following week, "You can come over for dinner next Wednesday to meet my parents, and then we can do dinner and a movie on Friday with my friends." Spencer stated more like a question.

"I can't. I'm starting my first job since I got my G-E-D next Monday, and I don't think missing hours on the first week would make a good impression. Can you do it any other day?"

"I'm free all day Saturday so if you want we can do breakfast with my friends and then dinner with my parents."

"That's perfect." Toby replied making a note in his phone and taking a seat with her on the floor in front of the fire. "I can't wait to meet them." He smiled.

"Toby there's something you should know about my parents." Spencer said embarrassed just at the thought of how her parents would react to her dating a 'wretched Cavanaugh boy'.

"Are they robots?" Toby said playfully, obviously amused by his choice of words. "Oh, or is your mother a vampire while your father is a werewolf?" Toby said blurting out the most ridiculous theories he could come up with.

"Okay," Spencer laughed "Are you sure you've never seen the Twilight movies? Because we are two weeks into this relationship, and I'm 100% sure you are obsessed.

Spencer realized what she had just said. Neither one of them had confirmed them being in a relationship out loud in fear of moving too fast. Spencer hoped that he hadn't heard what she had said. He did. He heard what she said loud and clear, but still wanted an unhesitant confirmation. Without making her uncomfortable was the key objective here.

Toby pushed her on the subject with a husky voice, "So is that what we are? A relationship? As in boyfriend/girlfriend," Toby could feel this question weighing down the air around them. There was so much tension from that question that he felt like he was suffocating, so he continued, "Because I'm not good at the whole 'boyfriend/girlfriend' thing. I've never had much practice at it."

A long pause took place between the Toby and Spencer. They sat in utter silence and Toby began to regret asking such a question after all she had been through only two weeks ago. Spencer took his hand in hers, and turned her eyes away from the blazing fire.

"I'm introducing you to my parents," She said rather nonchalantly, "I don't just do that for anyone. Believe me." She smiled still not completely sure if calling Toby her boyfriend would scare him away.

"Look, Spencer if you aren't ready to talk about it I understand, but there's something I need to tell you about that day."

Without even having to think she knew exactly what day he was talking about. The day in the motel with Alex. "Toby…" Toby cut her off.

"I was there. I was there in the back of the motel and I saw you." He took a shaky, unsteady breath. "I could hear Alex yelling, and you crying, and I had to do something. I had to." Spencer watched his face carefully as his bottom lip quivered and a tear peeked from the corner of his eye. "I called 9-1-1, and there are some things I told that operator that I haven't told you yet."

"What is it Toby? I'll understand. I promise." Toby smiled because what he was about to say wasn't bad and it couldn't get either one of them in trouble, but he smiled because she cared about him regardless of what the news turned out to be.

Toby spoke up, "When I saw Alex with his hands around your neck, I realized that I couldn't lose you. I've never really cared about anyone the way I cared about you in that moment. I not only told the operator, but told myself that you were," Toby corrected himself " You are someone I want to be more than friends with. I-I mean I just want to know more about you," Toby was now rambling, knowing that he was probably making a complete fool of himself, "And I know it sounds stupid but-"

He was then silenced by Spencer's slight giggle as her lips met his quickly. Toby could feel her move closer to him, their fingers tightening around the others hand and her teeth sunk into his bottom lip a little, causing a slight moan to escape Toby's lips.

Spencer couldn't help but laugh at Toby's previous embarrassment. "I like you. I would love to get to know more about you."

Toby returned his lips to hers feeling himself regain his confidence. He grabbed at her shirt a little as if to keep her from disappearing.

Don't move to fast with her. Remember what she has gone through? Stay in control and watch your hands. You cannot screw up this relationship with her. He commanded to himself. She is too special.

Toby was so caught up in the lightweight feeling of Spencer's lips pressed gently against his that he didn't notice the two adults standing in the kitchen observing the events that took place before them.

Toby nearly jumped out of his own skin when he heard the door slam shut with an unnecessary amount of force. He looked at the enraged man and women in the kitchen with confusion. While looking for answers he gazed over at Spencer who was staring into the kitchen with fear spread across her face. Toby soon caught on. Her parents.

"Spencer. What is going on here?" Veronica said, her voice low but stern.

"Mom. Dad. Uh-" Spencer looked past their shoulders at the clock hanging in the kitchen. "It's five o' clock. You said you weren't going to be home for hours because of Dad's business dinner." Spencer said sheepishly, struggling for words.

Peter spoke up this time so his wife wouldn't have to. "It was cancelled and postponed so we thought we would come home early and treat you to dinner, wherever you would like to go."

"But instead we come home to find your tongue down that boy's throat." Veronica screamed. She refused to let her voice crack. If there was a word to describe the Hastings family it would be persistent. No one wasted time getting to the point of things. They just ripped it off like a band aid.

There was a moment of silence as Spencer tried to digest what exactly her mother meant by that. Spencer was completely speechless and Toby could tell the second he looked at her face.

"Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Hastings—" Toby addressed them properly in order to make a good first impression, but was cut off by the bellowing sounds of Mr. Hastings voice.

"And who do you think you are? Coming to my house. Kissing my daughter. Someone like you doesn't deserve my daughter. You aren't worthy of anything or anyone that has 'Hastings' to its name. Do you understand?"

"Dad! You're not even giving him a chance." Spencer screamed, fighting back tears.

Ignoring his daughter's pleas, Mr. Hastings continued, "I am giving you a chance to walk out of that door Toby and never come back. If you can do that, there shouldn't be a reason for the police to get involved."

Spencer stood dumbfounded in between the two men. She looked back and forth between them shooting glares at her father every chance she got.

Spencer remembered the other presence in the room, "MOM! Are you going to say anything? He can't do this! DO SOMETHING!"

"Honey, this is all very complicated. I think it's best if Toby left for tonight so we can discuss the issue at hand."

"Discuss the issue at hand?!" Spencer shook her head in refusal. "Mom, whose side are you on?"

"I'm on both of your sides sweetie, but your father's right. We are just trying to protect you."

"Protect me?" Spencer questioned mocking her mother's words. "Protect me from what?" She looked at Toby. "Protect me from Toby?" The silence confirmed Spencer's accusations. "Mom this is INSANE! You say you are 'trying to protect me', but all you're doing is hurting me more, I guess I'm just a complication!"

"ALRIGHT THAT'S ENOUGH! This is my house and I get to decide what happens in it!" Peter put a hand on Toby's back, gesturing to the door.

Toby let the next few words rush past his lips. "I care about Spencer. I would never do anything to hurt her. I love—"

"Good. Then you need to stay away from her." With that Peter slammed the door, Toby still standing on the other side.

Peter turned from the door to meet a teary eyed Spencer. "Spencer" he whispered, but before he could say anything else she was headed up the stairs, dialing Toby's number as she went.

The traffic in The Brew was exceptionally light for a Monday morning, Emily was donned in her red apron serving fraps and lattes to the local college kids. The annual open mic night at The Brew had occurred the night before which Emily was still recovering from.

A tall brunette wisped through the doors quickly, rushing towards Emily in an urgent manner.

Emily caught sight of Spencer heading in her direction and mocked her quick pace, "Someone's already had their expresso fix this morning."

Spencer didn't pay much attention to Emily's joke, but proceeded with an interrogation.

"Hey Em, have you heard from Toby lately?"

"No. Why?"

Spencer shifted her body weight uncomfortably trying to think of the best lie.

"Oh. Um… no reason."

Emily arched and eyebrow not quick to buy into such a tale.

"We've been hanging out a lot lately." Spencer blushed.

Emily caught sight at the rosy pink color flooding the brunette's cheeks.

"Is Spencer Hastings blushing?" She asked with a smirk. A pause as Spencer looked at her feet trying to avoid eye contact.

"Spencer! Are you and Toby—"

Spencer quickly changed the subject. "So do you think if I invite the girls to dinner on Saturday they could make it? Just a small get together, you, Aria, Hanna and I?"

Emily teased her friend a little longer, "I don't know. Is Toby going to be there too?" She dragged out his name hoping to earn a reaction from Spencer.

"Not that I know of, but you seemed to be obsessed, so I guess I can invite him if you want me too." Spencer said offering her Hastings' sass.

The girls shared a small laugh, which was then interrupted by Spencer as she looked at her watch. "I have to get going Em, but if you do run into Toby will you tell him I was looking for him?"

"Yeah. Sure!" Emily said almost a little to enthusiastically. Becoming serious once again Emily looked at Spencer and added, "I'm glad you found someone that makes you happy Spence. I really am."

Spencer smiled trying to cover up her confusion, "How do you know he makes me happy?"

"Friend's intuition." Emily smiled knowingly, "When you know… you just know."

Spencer and Emily embraced in a goodbye hug as Spencer headed towards the door. When she reached for the doorknob she turned to face her friend once again, "So are you coming? On Saturday?"

"It's 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner Night?'" Emily stated nonchalantly, like her answer was written across the sky in bold block letters.

Spencer took that as a 'yes'.
