Blaine was itching to spend more time with Kurt. He'd accepted when Brittany had volunteered to take care of him, knowing it would be good for both omegas. Brittany was a sweet and gentle if somewhat strange spirit who would help Kurt feel at ease and see that it wasn't the role of omegas to be miserable and slaves to their Alpha. And Brittany loved taking care of the younger weres, and she needed something to keep her busy while both her mate and her brother were away. But that didn't stop Blaine's wolf from pacing restlessly when he went all day without seeing Kurt. He made sure to say good night to him every night, to help him slowly become accustomed to his presence and feel more comfortable around him. But it simply wasn't enough, and all the runs he went on in wolf form, all the time he spent with the rest of his pack couldn't get rid of the yearning he had for the fragile omega now in his care.
Full moon was tomorrow night, and Blaine wondered how Kurt felt. He guessed it probably wasn't a good idea for him to spend it communally, like the rest of the pack did, all playing and feeding and running together, but maybe Kurt would feel comfortable to have Brittany with him. He still hadn't seen Kurt's wolf form, and he was beginning to suspect it was for a reason. But it was very difficult to resist the pull of the full moon for any wolf, much less one as weak and hurt as Kurt was right now. He respected if Kurt didn't want to show his wolf form to anyone in Westerville yet, for whatever reason, but it was not good for him to spend the full moon alone. It certainly wouldn't help with his healing.
He figured making the arrangements were a good enough excuse to pay Kurt a visit, so once he finished a Skype conference with Santana to check on the situation in Lima (the new Alpha was due to arrive two days after the full moon, so there were concerns about how the Lima pack would do that night), he headed back to his house. He smiled at Brittany and squeezed her shoulder while she was preparing Kurt's lunch. She bowed her head and smiled back, drawing a heart with mustard on top of several slices of ham piled on a thick piece of bread.
"He's more appetitious than ever," said Brittany happily, and Blaine didn't bother to correct her word choice, "it's a good sign."
"I'm going to go talk with him about the full moon. What do you think of spending it with him?"
Brittany shook her head a little. "He isn't ready to swim in the moonlight, Blaine." She raised her eyes and met Blaine's, leaning towards him. Her sunny energy almost always made his wolf feel a bit more playful. "I know it doesn't feel like it for you, but he feels safer wrapped in a blanket of midnight blackness."
Blaine didn't really understand what she was getting at, other than saying Kurt wasn't looking forward to the full moon. Maybe if Santana was here, she could help translate Brittany's unique language. But his wolf smiled, tongue hanging out, at her words all the same. So maybe he understood at some level.
He knocked on Kurt's door softly and restrained himself from throwing it open. He knew Kurt wouldn't respond. He was on the other side of the door, probably frozen with indecision. He would be worried about how to answer Blaine. Telling him to come in was an instruction, something Kurt was terrified to send Blaine's way. Blaine really wanted to work on that, but for now, he simply waited a few seconds as always before letting himself in.
Kurt was hastily picking himself up off the floor. Blaine had told him not to drop to his knees in anticipation of being in Blaine's presence, but it was apparently such an ingrained habit that he did it automatically and then hurried to pick himself up. Brittany told Blaine he'd done it with her, too, despite them both being omegas, and had only stopped very recently. Blaine hoped Kurt would soon feel comfortable enough around him to stop the habit completely. Despite his wolf's approval at the display of submissiveness, Blaine was saddened that Kurt had such an automatic behavior, showing he considered himself lower than every other wolf he encountered, including other omegas, and saddened that Kurt also rushed to get back on his feet by the time Blaine entered the room. The first time after Blaine had told him not to get on his knees and Blaine walked in to find Kurt terrified and pushing himself up onto his feet, he knew Kurt was expecting to be hit or punished in some other way.
"It's alright, Kurt," he said gently, shutting the door.
"Hello, Blaine," said Kurt quietly, keeping his eyes lowered. He was getting healthier, slowly. Putting on weight, healing, gaining some color, though he was still very pale.
Like moonlight, thought Blaine suddenly. His wolf was whining in his chest and he agreed. All he really wanted to do was go and mouth at the pale stretch of his neck, mark it at his own with gentle bites and sooth them with his tongue. And then capture those pale pink lips, peel back Kurt's clothes, and mark every inch of that moonlight skin.
He kicked himself and his wolf for good measure inside his head.
"Hello. How are you doing today?"
"Good," Kurt said, glancing up quickly and then looking back down. "H-how are you?"
Kurt was slowly getting better at asking questions, since he was able to have conversations with Brittany regularly. But he never asked for anything, especially not from Blaine. It irritated the hell out of Blaine's wolf, and he, too, was very bothered with it. As an Alpha, he enjoyed providing for the needs of his pack, and personally he liked that his betas and omegas felt safe and loved by him, and that they respected him enough to believe he could take care of them, so they always felt comfortable asking him for what they needed or wanted. Depending on what it was they were asking for, they wouldn't always get it, but they respected his decision either way. So to have such a beautiful, fragile omega in his care who didn't trust him, who didn't believe he could keep him safe and provide what he needed, it grated on Blaine, the man and the wolf together. He knew it wasn't Kurt's fault, and it would hopefully get better with time, but his wolf was not as patient.
"Pretty good. I'm happy to see you."
Blaine's wolf practically purred with approval when Kurt looked up and the tiniest of smiles quirked on the corner of his mouth. There was a spark of genuine pleasure in his eyes, and that satisfied Blaine, even though Kurt dropped his eyes again quickly. Not long ago, the omega's instinctive pleasure at making his Alpha happy was always overshadowed by expecting Blaine's happiness at seeing him was because he wanted him for something. Blaine was trying hard to show Kurt that he wouldn't be forced or coerced into anything he didn't want, that he wouldn't be used and abused, but instead cherished, protected, and cared for.
"I wanted to talk to you about the full moon tomorrow night."
Kurt's eyes stayed down but his face fell, and Blaine watched as the color in his cheeks drained away.
