After his awful night alone, Kurt had curled up under a sheet by himself while still in wolf form, hurting and miserable. He had realized he wanted so badly to belong, to be able to truly be a part of a pack, to be a part of Blaine's pack, not a toy for an Alpha to fuck and beat.
He was still scared about so much, about what Blaine wanted from him, and as much as Blaine told him, as much as he told himself, that Blaine didn't want to use Kurt like a sex toy, his experiences with Hunter and even before that in Hunter's father's pack had taught him to expect the worst. The thing was, he still wanted to try, he still wanted to take that risk and be an omega how Blaine wanted him to be. Maybe one day Blaine would change his mind and Kurt would just be something to fuck and throw aside. But the longer he knew Blaine, the less likely that seemed, and the more he was willing to take the risk anyway, if it meant truly belonging to Blaine's pack.
He was also scared of his true wolf's form being discovered. He knew Blaine would kill him if he found out; an Alpha would want to protect his pack from the freak who had managed to find his way into living among them. But he would find a way to conceal it for as long as he could. As long as Blaine didn't order him to change and as long as he could be alone on the full moon, he could make it work. There would be other times he might feel the pull strongly, feel his wolf begging him to give himself over to the change, but nothing but the moon or Alpha's command could make him shift against his own choosing. And he would sacrifice everything to keep his secret hidden, no matter how hard it would be.
Blaine held him the morning after the full moon, and after one more slip, seeing the hurt on his Alpha's face, Kurt decided he would try his hardest not to offer himself sexually to Blaine in the future, because for the time being, it seemed it wasn't what he wanted. A huge part of him was relieved, but another part was worried about what he could possibly do to curry Alpha's favor now. Of course, the omega pacing anxiously in his chest whined in protest as well, drawn on a primal level to such a powerful Alpha.
And perhaps a very very small part of Kurt felt dejected that Blaine didn't want him.
Mostly, though, it helped him to relax. Not by much, but enough to feel some of the tension leave his body as Blaine pressed him close, enough for his wolf to yip contentedly and curl up, happy to be so close to his Alpha.
He actually fell asleep again and woke to Blaine's gentle fingers stroking through his hair.
This time, when he sat up, he noticed the room.
He knew this was Blaine's house. He'd known what he was doing when he was in wolf form last night, but he'd been so tormented by the pull of the moon and his misery from being cooped up all alone that he hadn't been able to help himself.
The room was destroyed, Blaine's belongings were torn to shreds, broken, and scratched to hell. Kurt was a small wolf, but a small wolf could still cause a lot of damage all alone for an entire night.
"Alpha," Kurt whispered, lowering his eyes so he wouldn't have to look at what he'd done, "please forgive me."
Blaine didn't growl or hit him. Instead, he ran a hand over Kurt's arm. Kurt looked at his own arm and noticed the bruises and scratches there.
"Kurt, I don't care about the room. I assumed there'd be some damage; that what happens when a wolf is locked up by himself for the full moon. But I am worried about the damage you've caused yourself."
Kurt looked up at this, surprised. Blaine met his eyes steadily. He wasn't joking. He didn't look angry, like he was upset that his property - the room or Kurt - was damaged. He just looked concerned. Could it really be that all he was worried about was that Kurt was hurt?
Kurt was overwhelmed by the idea. It had been so long since someone had cared if he was injured. When he was with Hunter, his Alpha had only seemed to get pleasure from his pain and any damage he caused to Kurt. Is this what being a member of Blaine's pack meant? That his Alpha truly wanted him to be healthy, not injured and in pain, weak and easy to control?
He wondered if he should apologize anyway, for hurting himself, but Blaine spoke again.
"Let's get you a shower and some clothes and then we can take care of any injuries, okay? Unless there's anything really urgent."
Blaine watched him carefully as Kurt shook his head. He had some aches and pains, but nothing too extreme. Blaine smiled widely at him and Kurt fought not to gape at him. He had spent a lot of time being afraid fo his Alpha or trying to figure out what he wanted or what would please him sexually that he hadn't really had much opportunity to truly take him in. He was very handsome, and Kurt could tell that aside from his omegas yearnings to be close to the powerful Alpha Blaine obviously was, he felt another kind of pulling towards him. It frightened him, so he tried not to focus on it. If he didn't pay those feelings, whatever they meant, attention, hopefully they would go away.
Blaine stood up and offered his hand to Kurt. Kurt placed his hand in Blaine's carefully, shivering when Blaine's warm hand closed around his and he pulled him to his feet. Kurt's other hand tightened, making sure the sheet wrapped around his body stayed there. He wasn't sure why it mattered since Blaine had seen him naked already, but he was feeling especially vulnerable this morning, and because he was going to try to truly belong to Blaine's pack, it made him nervous about something as simple as his own body in Alpha's presence.
Blaine didn't call for Brittany to tend to Kurt. Instead he chose to stay with him, helping him into the bathroom and running the shower for him, actually leaving the room while Kurt showered to give him privacy, letting Kurt pick out the clothes he wanted to wear, and gathering supplies to treat his wounds.
Kurt didn't know what to make of it, but his wolf sure did. His omega instincts preened in response to his Alpha's careful, gentle attentions.
He sat still and quiet in the kitchen as Blaine pulled something out of the freezer and put it in the oven to cook while they dealt with his injuries. He concentrated on trying to keep his body relaxed as Blaine applied ointment to his cuts, and a soothing cream to his bruises. Blaine dabbed carefully at his split lip and Kurt's eyes slid closed. He couldn't help but enjoy the way Blaine's warm, long-fingered hand held his face.
"I'll give you this stuff so you can put more on tonight," Blaine said, holding up the cream and ointment, "especially if I haven't already put it on for you."
"Thank you," Kurt said, lowering his eyes. He knew Blaine meant that Kurt should look after any wounds that Blaine hadn't been able to because of his clothes. It was just amazing to him that Blaine seemed to care that Kurt might want to take care of the most private parts of himself alone.
Blaine touched Kurt's chin. "Please don't be afraid to look at me," he said, "I know I'm an Alpha, but I don't need to want my pack behaving like they're beneath me. I want you to be comfortable and feel safe, Kurt."
Kurt nodded, meeting Blaine's gaze. It was intense, but not menacing or aggressive. Kurt had seen how Blaine could look. He remembered the fierce anger and intimidation he had exuded when he had confronted Hunter. He remembered Blaine's wolf form, a huge animal with glossy black fur like the dead of night, sharp, white teeth ready to rip flesh, and flashing eyes showing the war of the wildness and the dominance within every Alpha.
But right now, he seemed like just a man. True, he was undoubtedly a were, and unmistakeably an Alpha. The primal power rolled off of him and an omega like Kurt was especially attuned to such things. But he was smiling gently, and it reached his eyes, unlike Hunter's cold, mean sneer or Sebastian's smug smirk. His touch was sure but careful all the same, and his voice was sincere as he told Kurt he cared about his comfort and safety.
Kurt took a deep breath. He had said he was going to try. "Will-will you please be patient with me?"
Blaine paused, and Kurt wondered if he had done something wrong, but then Blaine grinned. "You asked me for something."
Kurt looked at him, confused and worried. "Alpha, is…"
"No, Kurt, that's good! It's very good. And of course, I will be patient. We will all be patient. I know you've been through things no one should have to go through."
Kurt's heart squeezed painfully at Blaine's compassion, and his wolf danced around happily when Blaine reached out and lightly rubbed his arm.
It was becoming clear that Blaine was a very different sort of Alpha than Hunter, and that his pack had every reason to love and treasure him as their leader. And if he had been someone else, even some other omega, maybe even some other runt who had been accepted into the Westerville pack, maybe he would have nothing to worry about. Maybe he could rest easy even after everything he'd been through and trust that Blaine and his pack would accept and take care of him. But he was Kurt Hummel, he was a white wolf, and if he had any hope of surviving here even for a while, he needed to stay vigilant and never reveal his secret. He would try to trust Blaine and find some way to be like an omega should, but if he wanted to stay alive, he'd never be able to fully embrace his wolf in Blaine's presence.
His conflicted thoughts were interrupted when Blaine set down a piece of quiche in front of him. Kurt salivated at the smell of all the protien in front of him, a big mix of eggs and bacon was exactly what he needed after his rough night. They ate quietly, and Kurt didn't hold back when he saw Blaine smiling approvingly at his enthusiasm for the food.
Blaine ate slower, and Kurt waited for him to finish, trying not to stare too openly at his Alpha's mouth as it closed around his fork, his throat as he swallowed a gulp of juice. Everything that had happened last night and this morning had convinced Kurt of one thing.
When Blaine was finished, Kurt cleared his throat nervously, spreading his palms out on the table. "Blaine...can I meet the rest of the pack?"
